Falun Gong Practitioners in Northern California Hold Memorial Service for Liu Chengjun, Call for Punishment of Jiang Zemin and Responsible Police Officers in Changchun

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Liu Chengjun, a Changchun Falun Gong practitioner, one of the first to tap into the Changchun cable TV system and broadcast Dafa truth-clarification videos, died from long term torture early on the morning of December 26, 2003. Falun Gong practitioners in the Bay area in northern California, U.S.A. held a memorial service and a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. in front of the Chinese consulate in San Francisco on December 29. They called for the punishment of Jiang Zemin and those responsible police officers in Changchun City.

Liu Chengjun was one of the practitioners responsible for tapping into the local television network on March 5, 2002, to broadcast the truth of the persecution against Falun Gong, an event that "shocked the world." According to a Clearwisdom report from December 29, 2003, after enduring cruel torture in prison for one year and nine months, Liu Chengjun passed away at 4:00 a.m. on December 26, 2003 at the Jilin University Sino-Japanese Friendship Hospital. That same day, a large police presence was assembled and officials at the Jilin Prison forcibly cremated Mr. Liu's body at 11 a.m. The cremation was performed without an autopsy and against the family's wishes. Eyewitnesses stated that Liu Chengjun's body had blood running out from the nostrils, ears, thighs and other areas.

Around 8:00 p.m. on March 5, 2002, eight channels belonging to the Changchun cable TV network aired "Falun Dafa Around the World," "Self-immolation or Staged Event," and other truth clarification programs. The uninterrupted broadcast lasted 40-50 minutes. The broadcast allowed many people to become aware of the truth that Falun Gong is being subjected to slander and persecution, sending shockwaves throughout Mainland China, as well as outside China. Mr. Liu Chengjun played a major role in this courageous act. Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin, who single-handedly started the bloody persecution against Falun Gong, became furious and extremely frightened. He gave the order to "kill [those responsible] without pardon."

The magnificent feat of the TV broadcast on March 5 sent shockwaves around the world and won praise from many people. Falun Gong practitioners' act of broadcasting truth-clarifying programs in Mainland China is safeguarding the citizens' constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of speech and belief, and the people's right to know.

History will remember the selfless and tremendous sacrifice Liu Chengjun has made for the world, and all criminals responsible for his persecution will not escape punishment by justice.
