How Liu Chengjun Was Tortured to Death in Jilin Prison (Photo)
(Clearwisdom.net) Liu Chengjun, a 32-year-old man from Nongan County,
Jilin Province, was one of the people in Changchun and Songyuan who broadcast
programs over China's state-run airwaves exposing the systematic cover-up of
atrocities against Falun Gong practitioners arrested for tapping into cable TV
networks, for which he was arrested. He was sentenced to 19 years in Jilin
Prison. Liu was severely tortured in the prison and died at 4:30 in the morning
of December 26, 2003. In order to cover up their crime, the guards responsible
for his death cremated his body at 10:40 the same morning, against his family's
will. Police Prevent Liu's Family from Visiting Him At 10:30 p.m. on December 25, 2003, before he had died, six police officers
from the Jilin Province Labor Reform Bureau, the Jilin Prison, and the Nongan
County Debiao Police Department, rushed into Liu's home. The police said that
Liu was severely ill and was in the First Hospital of the Changchun Medical
School (also known as the First Clinical Institute of the Jilin University), and
wanted the family to visit him immediately. The police kept on inquiring about
the condition of Liu's parents' health and suggested that they take medicine to
Liu in the hospital. The police offered only a small car as transportation to
the hospital so no other friends and family could come to visit Liu, only his
parents. When they arrived at the First Hospital of the Medical School, where the
police had told them their son was being held, they didn't stop but rather
continued to another hospital, the China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin
University. When his parents arrived, Liu was experiencing a fever of 39oC
(102.2oF). There was ice underneath his armpits and his head. His
entire back was bruised. He was in a coma. He was hooked up on a ventilator to
keep him breathing. The rest of the family went to the First Hospital and could not find anyone
anywhere. The police had told them the wrong hospital. They checked the
hospital's admittance record from a microcomputer and found nothing about Liu.
They then went to another branch of the hospital, finding nothing. Not knowing
what to do, they went back to the First Hospital and searched the whole night
and still no information could be obtained. The next morning (Friday the 26th)
the rest of the family received Liu's parent's phone call saying that they were
in the China-Japan Hospital. Before that, Liu's parents tried to borrow a cell
phone from the police but were denied. His parents had to run down five floors
to make a phone call to the rest of the family. When the rest of the family
arrived (at the China-Japan Union Hospital), Liu had stopped breathing. Liu died
with his mouth and eyes open as though trying to speak. Right after Liu stopped breathing, the police would not allow Liu's parents
to change his clothes. The police wanted Liu's dead body to wear the clothes of
a prisoner. Liu's parents wanted their son's clothes back. The police wanted the
parents to pay for their own son's clothes to be returned. Family Asks that Liu's Remains Not Be Cremated - Police Insist on Cremation
Nevertheless Liu's death was almost life ending for his parents because he was so young.
Liu's father was immediately choked and could barely breathe. Liu's mother cried
until she fainted. She kept on asking the police, "Did you wait and inform
us until he is in such a bad shape? We're his family! Have you no human
decency!" The police responsible for these crimes couldn't speak. The family asked the police why they were told to go to the wrong hospital.
Lin (first name unknown), who is the captain of the fifth team (where Liu was
illegally detained before his death) in the Jilin Prison, couldn't utter a word
as to why. The family told the police that it was illegal to wait to inform the family
until a person is dying. The police again were speechless. After all this the
police gathered more people to "monitor" Liu's family. They even sent
police to the funeral. After the remains were cremated, the police were nowhere to be found. Liu's family wanted to take his dead body back to his hometown. However, the
police strongly objected the idea and interfered with the process. They forced
the family to cremate the body immediately. During the argument, some other
police came and eventually at 10:40 that morning, Liu's remains were sent to
Chaoyang'gou where they were cremated quickly. The police initially didn't even
let the family buy a box to put the ashes in. The police finally agreed to that
but threatened Liu's family not to disclose this incident to the outside world. Police Disregard Hospital Warnings About Liu's Critical Condition Many Times In fact, as early as on Oct 23, 2003, the Jilin Central Hospital knew that
Liu was in a critical condition. When the family asked for him to be on
probation to receive medical treatment, Chief Lin from the fifth team said it
couldn't be done unless they ask those in charge of the prison. The family went
to the prison where they were told that the people responsible for that decision
were all on a business trip. The doctor in the prison said they had already
reported Liu's case to the provincial authority. Information on Liu's being brutally tortured and was in a critical condition
appeared on Clearwisdom. This report caused strong reactions all over the world.
Dafa practitioners went to the Chinese Consulate in their countries to appeal
for Liu's release and an end to the brutal persecution of Dafa practitioners in
Jilin Prison. However, in order to cover up the crime, the authorities
transferred Liu to the Jilin Police Hospital, which is known for its brutal
torture means, and continued torturing Liu even more. Later, the labor camp hospital gave a notice of Liu being in a critical
condition again and asked for him to receive treatment on probation. The Nongan
County "610 Office" police system denied the request. The Nongan
County "610 Office" later took Liu back to the Jilin Prison. No Visits Allowed by Family Members - Police Lie About His Condition, Calling
Him "Very Healthy" During this time, Liu's family had requested to visit him but were denied
many times. The prison said that once Liu can write letters home (Which meant
when he had given up his belief in Falun Dafa due to torture and was in their
opinion "transformed"), only then could his family visit him. Every
time the family asked about Liu's health, the police lied "perfectly
fine." The next time Liu was in critical condition and the police had to let his
family see him, but they lied about his location to delay the visit. Before His Death, Liu Revealed that the Police Asked Prisoners to Torture Him
Every Day Before he died, Liu told his family that every day there were prisoners sent
by the police to torture him. When the family mentioned this to the police, they
pretended to be shocked and claimed that no such thing had occurred. When the family was changing Liu's clothes, they found him bleeding a lot
from his ears, nose and mouth. Most disturbingly the family found an opening on
his thigh bleeding continuously. This wound appeared to have resulted as a means
of torturing Liu by forcing him to be injected with some unrecognizable liquid.
