Argentina: Special Report Concerning Persecution of Falun Dafa in China Aired by the Radio Station "The Island" in Buenos Aires (Part I)

(Clearwisdom.net) Martin Bermudez is the host of a radio program in the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires. His very popular program is called "You Will Remember Me" and runs every morning from Monday to Friday.

During his last trip to New York, he saw anti-torture exhibitions performed by Falun Dafa practitioners in Manhattan. He was shocked so deeply that he asked himself, what can I do? When he returned to Argentina, he immediately contacted Falun Dafa practitioners for more information on the practice and the situation in China.

On October 1, 2004 "The Island" broadcast the first special report about the persecution of Falun Dafa in China. The report lasted the whole two hours of the program. The host plans to continue to discuss the topic live with reports from various angles and interviews. He plans to interview government officials in Argentina, senators, human rights organizations and a representative of the Chinese government, and continue conversations with Falun Dafa practitioners both inside and outside Argentina. He expressed to the practitioners that he would do his best to call on the Argentine government, the press and the people to learn about the senseless persecution of Falun Gong and do what they can to stop it.

Following are some excerpts from the program, spoken by Martin Bermudez:

It is a trap to use business interest to make people keep a blind eye to the persecution

"I don't know if all of you remember or not that a few days ago I mentioned that I saw on almost every street corner in Manhattan groups of people giving out flyers and holding exhibitions which really left me with a very deep impression. Those who were acting as victims of the torture were locked up in cages and being beaten. Bruises and cut were on their faces with bleeding. Some of them were tied up with ropes, others kept in painful positions difficult to imagine. The positions appeared extremely brutal, so brutal that no real person could demonstrate it. Therefore, they had to be shown by inanimate models, as no one can stand even one minute in those kinds of distorted postures. I already told you that this is.....how to say it, because it is not a religion...., Falun Dafa or Falun Gong, originated in China. I also mentioned earlier that what really worries me is that while I was listening to the truth concerning the persecution on the street corners of Manhattan and watching the torture demonstrations, president Kirchner (Note: current president of Argentina) was participating in the human rights dialog at the United Nations. At this very moment, just as we are talking now, while everyone is listening to this broadcast, in China, many people are being tortured brutally, only because they practice Falun Dafa. What is even more worrisome is that while President Kirchner is talking about human rights, he expects to develop considerable economic relations and trade with China. Therefore, it is as if someone says on one side "Okay, protection of human rights is my directive for governing the country. I will condemn the countries that violate human rights. Therefore, he cannot say, on the other hand, "I am really happy that we can do business with China." Actually, this is a trap, because people are saying, "We can not give up doing business with China, because China buys a large quantity of our soybeans and many other products."

The whole world is paying attention to the persecution of Falun Dafa, but in Argentina, people feel that China is an economic power, and are full of hopes for business prospects with China. Therefore, it seems they have not heard and do not have any interest in listening to the fact, that China, at this moment, is violating human rights without any limits.

The Falun Dafa practitioners here just described to me how practitioners are arrested, and murdered in China. We Argentines have also experienced such things under the military government. You (directing his voice to a practitioner) are still young, and do not remember this persecution twenty years ago and how we lived through those years. Therefore, Argentina cannot watch those things happening in other countries and not care about it

Hoping China stops and prevents this type of persecution

And do you know what is the most attention catching? I mentioned that there are 100 million people practicing Falun Dafa in China. Therefore, someone can say "We cannot give protection to 100 million people!" Actually what I want to say is that we hope in this new era while China is opening markets to the world, entering onto the world stage and possessing the potential to lead the world, she must by all means, finds ways to eliminate and prevent this type of persecution.

I'll do what I can to let people know about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China

In a few years, China may become the second most powerful economic power. In about twenty years, China might become the world's first economic and military power. Someone will say, "We are confronting such a powerful nation, how can we stop their violation of human rights?" Actually every day there are many reports concerning the American abuse of power around the world, but what is paradoxical here is that the persecution of Falun Dafa in China is being protested in the United States, reminding people that there exists persecution of human rights in other countries. This is something difficult to understand. However, what is not so difficult to understand, and which is disgusting to everyone, is that people suffer brutal persecution just because they practice a kind of cultivation practice system which relaxes and is beneficial to the body, heart and mind, something similar to Taiji or Yoga etc. Imagine this: a group of people practicing Taiji in a park in Buenos Aires. At this moment, suddenly a police vehicle arrives; the policemen get out of the car and immediately start to beat up the group of people just because they practice Taiji. This sounds very frightening to you, doesn't it? But such things are really happening in China; in China police are torturing and killing practitioners of Falun Dafa; they can shoot at them. What worries me most is thinking what I can do. When I was in New York, I thought, "How can I help them?" As to how to help, I thought at least I can do my best to let the Argentines know about the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China.

Whenever you need to give us more information or condemn the persecution and torture, you can depend on us!

In New York, the majority of people do not speak Spanish, and it is difficult to broadcast in Argentina using foreign languages, because a lot of time has to be spent on simultaneous translations; maybe it would take a year to talk about two subjects. Therefore, our production team tried to find and contact Falun Dafa practitioners in Argentina and we found them.

Falun Dafa practitioners: We will also try to interview Chinese officials. Let me tell you in advance, you will hear many things which are ugly. You will feel very bad, but this is something which cannot be avoided, because our purpose is to show the truth, and we want everyone to know the truth.
