By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Beijing

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Yuan Lin, 50, is a teacher for graduate studies at Beijing University. On May 20, 2004, in a meeting with nearly a thousand attendees, she exposed how guards at the Beijing Women's Prison beat and abused Falun Gong practitioners. The guards of the prison also tortured her. The prison punished Ms. Yuan Lin for disclosing the illegal acts of prison guards. She held a hunger strike in protest and was subjected to daily force feedings.

Ms. Yuan Lin was illegally detained twice for two months. She was arrested a third time in December 2001. She was transferred to and secretly detained in the detention center of the seventh division of Beijing Public Security. During that time, she was sent to the Beijing Police Hospital four times. Ms. Yuan is over 1.70 meters (5 feet 8 inches) tall, but she was tortured to the point where she weighed less than 88 pounds, and she couldn't even walk steadily. After suffering from torture for nine months, Ms. Yuan Lin was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment in September 2002.

In the summer of 2002, during the imprisonment before her sentencing, Zhou Ying, the assistant warden, and Tian Fengying, ordered guards (Chen Jing and Li Xiaobing, a former practitioner who was brainwashed) to brutally beat her, which caused her to lose hearing in one ear. Chen Jing beat her and ordered her to sit with her legs double-crossed or to squat for periods as long as 24 hours. The guard didn't allow Ms. Yuan to use the bathroom for several days. Chen said, "Unless you write a 'Repentance Statement' (1), you are not allowed to use the bathroom."

On May 20, 2004, Ms. Yuan Lin exposed the persecution that she had suffered. Ms. Yuan said, "I want to report that the guards of the prison's tenth division ordered others to beat Falun Gong practitioners who refused to reform. They did not allow us to use the restroom or to sleep." Immediately a few criminals from the tenth division muffled her and dragged her out of the meeting hall. Another Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Gong Ruiping, also stood up to confirm the fact that prisoners in the tenth division had beaten her and injured her leg. Leaders from the Beijing Supervision Bureau and other related units that were present became embarrassed and angry.

Zhou Ying, assistant warden in the Beijing Women's Prison, and other guards were infuriated. On May 26, 2004, they sent Ms. Yuan to an intensive training center to persecute her. At the same time, the prison intensified their persecution against steadfast Falun Gong practitioners, which included closer monitoring and brainwashing. For example, they set new rules stating that Falun Gong practitioners could not speak to each other for more than ten minutes. After practitioners were forced to finish their forced labor for the day, they had to attend all kinds of brainwashing lectures or "study sessions." They were forced to listen to lies that slandered and attacked Falun Dafa and Teacher, and they jointly suffered attacks from the prison guards and their accomplices.

(1) The so-called "Repentance Statement": In this statement the practitioner is forced to admit remorse for practicing Falun Gong, to promise to give up Falun Gong, and to never again associate with other practitioners or go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.
