(Clearwisdom.net) During more than five years of peaceful protests, overseas Falun Gong practitioners have demanded that Jiang Zemin be held accountable for his crimes committed during the persecution of Falun Gong. In the past two years, they have also demanded that Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang be brought to justice. What messages are they trying to send with their actions?

Falun Gong practitioners in China have only asked for the restoration of their most basic human right as Chinese citizens, that of freedom of belief. They have no political agenda and are not interested in obtaining political power. Falun Gong practitioners' efforts against the persecution have been peaceful and non-violent, noticeably different from many other civil protests in Chinese history.

In the past few years, practitioners have collected evidence of the crimes committed by Jiang Zemin, the head perpetrator, and by tens of thousands of police officers, guards and others who have participated in the persecution. They published these records (in Chinese) on a "List of Perpetrators" at www.fawanghuihui.org. Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang have committed and been responsible for the most heinous of these crimes against humanity. We ask that these four be brought to justice and for an end to the persecution completely.

Jiang Zemin

Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese Communist Party, Chinese Army, and the Chinese Government, personally initiated and escalated the persecution of Falun Gong.

On June 10, 1999, because of Jiang Zemin's personal will and abuse of power, the "610 Office" was established specifically to persecute Falun Gong, overriding the Chinese Constitution and the law, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems. After July 20, 1999, Jiang Zemin ordered the "610 Office" to carry out an annihilation policy against Falun Gong practitioners in China, including the following directives:

• "defame their reputation, bankrupt them financially and destroy them physically;"
• if practitioners are "beaten to death it is nothing and shall be counted as suicide;"
• "cremate their body directly without identifying the person."

Since July 20, 1999, more than 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death in more than 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

Lou Gan

As Secretary of the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) Central Committee, Luo Gan personally planned the defamation and framing of Falun Gong. He played a major role in the persecution. After July 20, 1999, Luo Gan was the main executor to carry out Jiang's genocidal policies against Falun Gong. From 1999 to 2002, Luo Gan personally participated in the making of a series of policies designed to map out the escalation of the persecution. Luo Gan used every speech he made at various meetings to incite political and judiciary departments to step up the persecution of Falun Gong. He personally went to various places to oversee the execution of persecution orders. Between 2001 and 2003, Luo Gan gave at least seven public speeches, urging the political and judiciary departments to regard "Falun Gong as the number one target for suppression." Since September 2000, Luo Gan had gone to Weifang City in Shandong Province, Wuhan City in Hubei Province, Nanchang City in Jiangxi Province, Changchun City in Jilin Province, Anhui Province, Liaoning Province, Jiaozuo City in Henan Province, Shenyang City in Liaoning Province and Xingkai Lake in Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province to personally oversee the persecution.

Evidence shows that whenever Luo Gan conducted an inspection somewhere, the arrest, torture and death toll of Falun Gong practitioners in that area would increase drastically.

Liu Jing

Liu Jing is the head of the "610 Office" and as such also went to various places to direct the brutal persecution of Falun Gong. Liu Jing and Luo Gan often went together to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp to personally inspect the progress of the brainwashing efforts against Falun Gong practitioners. They also ordered that the cruel methods that Masanjia employed to torture Falun Gong practitioners be a model for other labor camps and brainwashing centers, not only in Liaoning province where Masanjia is located, but also around the country. This led to pervasive, savage persecution in detention centers, forced labor camps and jails all over China.

The Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, which is located in the suburb of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, is notorious as the place where Falun Gong practitioners are tortured most cruelly. Many Falun Gong practitioners have died there as a result of the atrocities perpetrated against them. The Masanjia Forced Labor camp will also go down in the history books for stripping naked eighteen women Falun Gong practitioners who refused to renounce their belief and throwing them into male prison cells without police supervision.

Liu Jing personally helped plot and implement the self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square, an almost unbelievably twisted propaganda stunt contrived and staged to demonize Falun Gong in the mind of the public. Liu Jing is also responsible for the creation of masses of other propaganda designed to incite hatred against Falun Gong.

The staged self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square is the most widely propagated and most effective lie told to turn public opinion against Falun Gong. The incident affected many people and incited those who did not know the facts to have enmity for Falun Gong, giving Jiang's regime an excuse for escalating the persecution against Falun Gong. A non-governmental organization known as the International Education Development (IED) pointed out in a report dated August 14, 2001 that the "self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square was staged by the government." Many discrepancies were uncovered through a slow-motion analysis of the incident recorded on videotape by CCTV cameras on the scene. In the videotape, we can see someone hit Liu Chunling, one of the self-immolators, on the back of the head, killing her on the spot. It has also been verified that the self-immolators were not Falun Gong practitioners.

Yet because Jiang and his regime control the media in China, they were able to flood the airwaves with the false propaganda, and use it to great advantage in their efforts to gain public support for their persecution of Falun Gong.

Zhou Yongkang

Zhou Yongkang was the secretary of the Sichuan Province Party Committee and is currently the minister of Public Security (as the police are called in China). He is responsible for the torture deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners. Zhou Yongkang is notorious in Sichuan Province for his brutality. Sichuan people call him "human rights killer" behind his back.

During his tenure in Sichuan, Zhou Yongkang and other high-ranking officials colluded with each other to persecute Falun Gong. Sources contend he authorized, supervised and endorsed such methods as murder, torture and disappearance in order to intimidate and eliminate Falun Gong practitioners in his district. He also carried out a vicious policy of implicating others in the abuse saying, "If parents practice, lay the children off from their jobs; if children practice, fire their parents, stop paying their pensions and cut off their financial resources." He has made Sichuan one of the provinces where Falun Gong is persecuted the most. By persecuting Falun Gong, he paved a road to his own promotion, a road stained with Falun Gong practitioners' blood, and has become the minister of Public Security.

On December 9, 2003, Zhou Yongkang continued to carry out Jiang's persecution policy, stating at a meeting held with various heads of the police system, "Cracking down on Falun Gong is still the main task of the Chinese police system." According to a report by People's Police, a newspaper in Beijing, Zhou Yongkang announced Jiang's eight major points regarding domestic and international issues. The first five points were to strengthen the dictatorship, with the suppression of Falun Gong listed as the third major point.

Conclusion

The reason why head perpetrator Jiang Zemin was able to use the whole government machinery to persecute Falun Gong might be found in the fact that too many evildoers like Luo Gan, Liu Jing, and Zhou Yongkang abandoned their conscience in exchange for personal interests and promotion. They chose to put themselves in opposition to Truth, Compassion, Tolerance and committed uncounted crimes. What awaits them is punishment by law as well as divine retribution.

Falun Gong practitioners are sending a warning to the evildoers who are still helping Jiang persecute Falun Gong, telling them that they will be held responsible for their crimes. Excuses such as, "I was only following orders from higher up" will not exonerate them.

Bringing Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang to justice serves as a warning to all people who persecute Falun Gong, and will awaken people's conscience.

Falun Gong practitioners are calling upon the world to come together to end this persecution against human nature and Truth, Compassion, Tolerance. Only when the evildoers are suppressed and goodness is encouraged will society become truly stable.

Middle School Classmates Work Together to Clarify the Truth about Falun Gong

In Northern China, one middle school student and all three of his family members practice Falun Gong. He always explains the truth about Falun Dafa and introduces the teachings to his classmates. He encourages his mother, saying, "Don't be afraid, just try your best and Teacher will help you!" He also informed his mother, "If we keep a righteous mind, all of my classmates will help me."

One day, their teacher in class asked who was practicing Falun Gong. He raised his hand bravely and slowly, one by one, his fellow students also raised their hands. Once, when he obtained some printed materials explaining the truth about Falun Gong, his classmates had a friendly competition with each other to distribute the materials. While hanging Falun Dafa banners, they also competed with each other to see who had hung the banner highest in a tree and who had hung it in the most aesthetically pleasing way.

Some students also tried to follow the example of grownups who had gone to unfurl Falun Gong banners on Tiananmen Square. They unfurled banners in the hallways of the school and shouted, "Falun Dafa is good! Falun Dafa is the righteous Fa (1)!"

Practicing Falun Gong is allowed in all countries but China

Once, when I was explaining the true situation about Falun Gong to a stranger, I asked for his opinion about Falun Dafa. He said, "I listen to the Voice of America every day; practicing Falun Gong is allowed in all countries except China." When I told him that I was a Falun Gong practitioner, he raised many questions, which I readily answered. I also told him one of my personal experiences. As part of my work, I often get invited to have dinner in places without paying for it (2). After I read Zhuan Falun, (3) I always got an upset stomach when I was invited on such occasions. At first, I did not know why this was, but when it happened again I realized that I must reject such invitations. I recognized that I had done wrong to take away other people's property by eating, and drinking their food. The Fa taught by our Teacher requires us to be good persons in every aspect of our lives.

After the person heard what I said, he thought that Falun Dafa was very amazing. He wanted to borrow the book to see for himself. When he had finished the book, he said that its content was totally different from what was said on the TV and that the government was lying and deceiving the people.

Employers ask for help with hiring more Falun Gong practitioners

A corn collection center in Northeastern China was employing several Falun Gong practitioners. They had been explaining the truth about Falun Gong to others and had always demonstrated the greatness of Falun Dafa with their righteousness and their compassionate behavior. One day, the employer told one of the Falun Gong practitioners that the center would be very busy over the next few days and asked for help with hiring more Falun Gong practitioners so that he would not have to worry about anybody's behavior.

Employers agree that Falun Gong practitioners are most just and fair

One Falun Gong practitioner's job was to check the weight of loads of coal in a coal plant. All the coal bought by the plant was weighed by this person. The coal producers and the nearby transportation company owners all agreed that the Falun Gong practitioner always assessed the weight of the coal fairly.

A private transit operator tells everyone that people who practice Falun Gong are very good

One of the owners of a passenger transportation company was no longer able to sell tickets himself after his business started to grow. When he hired additional staff for his bus, they always made costly mistakes. Eventually, he was informed by a friend that Falun Gong practitioners are very good, do not pursue fame and money, are not corrupt, never take things which do not belong to them and work hard without complaining. When he followed the advice of his friend and hired a Falun Gong practitioner, his friend was proven correct. He then told everyone he met, "People who practice Falun Gong are very good."

The "UltraSurf" software brings us fresh air!

All of my close friends and colleagues have installed the "UltraSurf 6.3.1" (4) on their home computers. I sent them the URL for the software by instant messaging. Incredibly, I soon found out that even our local government representatives, including the section leader, invited me to come to their homes to secretly install the software, once they found out that it was available. In addition, I published the URL on many Internet Bulletin Boards.

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Li Yumei from Balinzuoqi, Chifeng City was released unconditionally due to the well-coordinated rescue efforts of Falun Dafa practitioners acting as a whole and assisted by many other kind people.

The police abducted Li Yumei from her home on July 23, 2004. After six hours of harassment outside her house, the police officers found her family, got the door open, and rushed inside.

She was taken to the Public Security Office, where she began a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Ms. Li told the people around her the facts about the persecution of Falun Dafa and persisted in doing the exercises and in sending forth righteous thoughts. Fortunately, she had managed to telephone fellow practitioners before she was arrested. Meanwhile, practitioners on the outside aggressively tried every way possible to rescue Li Yumei, including sending forth righteous thoughts in time to clear out the evil forces in other dimensions.

The news of Li Yumei's abduction spread quickly. It was publicized on the Internet with the names and telephone numbers of the responsible organizations and officers that were involved in her arrest, especially those that she had recorded before her arrest and those who actually carried out the arrest. This made it possible for overseas practitioners to make phone calls in support of the effort to rescue her. Those calls frightened the local police. According to one source, the telephones rang continuously in the offices of those in charge and in the police offices during this incident.

Zhu Zijie, the head of the local "610 Office," would get a headache on the hour when Falun Dafa practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts. His family also received overseas phone calls, and they would not allow him to continue with his bad deeds.

At the same time, a flyer seeking support for Li Yumei's rescue was quickly printed and distributed. Her relatives, with strong righteous thoughts, bravely went to the Public Security Office many times to ask for her release.

With the well-coordinated efforts of many different organizations and the solid righteous thoughts of the local practitioners, Li Yumei was released unconditionally within a week. Before they released her, she asked the authorities to sign their names as a guarantee, but none of them would sign.

Unfortunately, the police in Linxi County of Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, recently began a new round of persecution. They have arrested many local practitioners in Linxi County and have even extended their territory to Balinzuoqi. They abducted a Balinzuoqi practitioner and brought the practitioner to Linxi County. In response, the practitioner's relatives and the local practitioners are working on another round of rescue efforts.

(Clearwisdom.net) My name is Liu Jieming and I am 75 years old this year. I have practiced Falun Dafa for over six months. During that period I have experienced tremendous physical and mental changes. Teacher's benevolence and Falun Dafa's mighty power gave me a new life.

Before I took up the practice of Falun Dafa, I was in a dire situation, afflicted with numerous illnesses. Indeed, there was not a spot on my body that didn't hurt. My lung function was about 30% of that of a normal person and I relied on an oxygen tank to breathe. It was difficult for me to eat and speak as I was extremely weak, and I had to live while relying on an oxygen tank and a wheel chair.

Other than lung problems, I also had heart disease, angina, high blood pressure, a stomach ulcer, narrowing of the esophagus, bone proliferation and gout, among other diseases. I suffered for decades and my condition worsened as I got older. I couldn't take care of myself and had to hire a nurse to help me walk, eat and take a shower. I was living in extreme pain that wracked my body constantly. I was struggling just to stay alive.

Around six months ago my daughter introduced me to Falun Dafa and told me about Teacher. I felt it was a great practice right away. Since then, I have been on the golden path of Falun Dafa practice.

My worldview changed as I read Zhuan Falun (1). My understanding of the Falun Gong principles improved and I became a better person. I understood the meaning of life, and I tried to assimilate to the universal principles of Truth-Compassion-Tolerance, to purify my mind with Falun Dafa, to conduct myself according to Dafa's standards and to be a true Falun Gong practitioner.

When I first started practicing, I had just gotten off the oxygen tank, and it was very difficult for me to do the sitting meditation exercise, let alone the standing exercises. I could hardly stand still or even follow the verses before each exercise. I didn't have enough strength to jie yin [put the two hands together at the end of each exercise]. It was exhausting for me to do the second exercise when I had to put my arms up for a long time, and my back hurt badly when I bent over during the fourth exercise. My knees were weak and I would experience sudden pains when doing the exercises. I felt so weak and sore that I could hardly finish the exercises. That was my first day of doing the exercises. If it were not for the mighty power of Dafa, I would not have been able to continue, but I persisted and my health improved day by day.

Before, I had all kinds of medical devices and homecare services, as I relied on many people to take care of me day in and day out. After I practiced Falun Gong, I stopped the services and I saved the government a large sum of money on medical expenses and various other costs.

Falun Dafa practice is very beneficial for any individual, family or country. Just as Teacher said on the first page of the book Zhuan Falun, "For the whole time I've been transmitting our teachings and exercises, I've made a point of being responsible to society and to our students. The results have been good, and the impact on the whole society has been pretty good, too." Falun Dafa practice enabled me to say goodbye to the oxygen tank and the wheelchair, as well as to the homecare nurse. Falun Dafa has shown its miraculous power and brought me back from death's door. Teacher and Dafa have given me a new life.

I am very happy that I have changed from being a critically ill person to a Falun Dafa practitioner. My family and friends were pleasantly surprised by the changes that took place in me. My appetite has increased and I no longer need to avoid certain foods. I sleep well and become healthier by the day. From now on, I will make the best use of my time and genuinely improve myself according to the Fa (2) and make diligent progress in Dafa cultivation.

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently I found that in a certain residential subdivision in Jilin City, there were many Dafa truth clarification materials. On the ground there were several copies of flyers. On the wall of a residential sub-unit there were chalk-written words like, "Global Trial of Jiang" and "Falun Dafa Saves the World's People," etc. Yet next to it were pasted flyers of the same content. Papers that had been torn down were also all over the place.

In my opinion, the above phenomenon is due to practitioners' attachment of doing things, instead of standing from the perspective of truly saving sentient beings. Actually, clarifying the truth is not a situation of "the more materials the better." The key is whether we can thoroughly clarify the facts of Falun Gong and the persecution. I ask fellow practitioners (except those under special situations) to please think about this. Let's say you distributed or posted 100 items of truth-clarifying materials today, but do you know how many people can really understand the truth? Of course we don't pursue quantity in our effort in saving sentient beings, and that is exactly why we should bring the truth directly to people's hearts. Personally, I think that in order to let people truly understand, and to achieve a better effect, we should clarify the facts face-to-face to resolve all the questions and doubts people have, and in the meantime, we can give them truth clarification materials.

In addition, we should not do things as described at the beginning of this article, even though most of the stairs and hallways in residential subdivisions are already not very tidy. This is a basic issue of cultivating our minds and actions.

I would like to share my truth clarification methods as an example, to explain the relationship between printed truth clarification materials and face-to-face truth clarification. Since I only have a limited amount of truth-clarification materials, I learned from the Internet how to make paper lotus flowers. I would give paper lotus flowers to whomever I get a chance to talk to. According to the situation, sometimes I directly tell them that I am a Falun Gong practitioner, and sometimes I talk from a third-party point of view and tell them if they see the truth-clarification materials they should really read them and learn more about Falun Gong. Usually they all agree. Later, I obtained more materials from fellow practitioners. After I give people the paper lotus flowers, I hand them the printed materials as well, and sometimes I read them together with them, which is even better.

Since the place where I live has limited amounts of truth-clarification materials, I used to use crayons to write, "Falun Dafa is great." When I later clarified the facts to people, they'd say, "There are writings of 'Falun Dafa is great' in my building." I'd reply, "Really? I didn't think there were many Falun Gong flyers and materials around here." They'd answer, "No, there are some." In this way, we can easily start a conversation and clarify the facts to people.

I feel that we have surpassed the stage of just distributing printed materials, and we should step into the period of extensive face-to-face truth clarification. Truth-clarification materials and face-to-face truth clarification supplement each other. Materials with relatively brief contents can only serve as a foundation. Only in combination with face-to-face truth clarification can we truly help people learn the facts.

After reading Master's new article, "Let Go of Human Attachments and Save the World's People," I understood that we not only need to save the world's people, it is also of vital importance how we can better guide the future practitioners to obtain the Fa (1) under the current circumstances that the remaining evil is still doing wicked things. Only with the dual effect of face-to-face truth clarification and printed materials can we do better.

I'd like to finish with Master's words, "...a complete sacrifice is a higher principle of non-omission." ("Perfect Harmony" in Essentials for Further Advancement)

(Clearwisdom.net) Since August 2004, on almost every weekend, people have seen a cheerful, middle-aged woman dressed in a yellow T-shirt distributing flyers and introducing Falun Gong to passers-by in Union Square, in New York City's Manhattan. Sometimes she carries a display board showing pictures of how Falun Gong practitioners are being persecuted in China. The woman is Ms. Li, a pharmaceutical technician from central Ohio. Like the one hundred-plus other Falun Gong practitioners from America's Midwest, she has spent most of her weekends on the streets of Manhattan. Most often she can be found at the busy gathering place, Union Square.

Situated in the center of Manhattan, at the intersection of 14th Street and Broadway, Union Square Park area is one of the places most-loved by the people of Manhattan. At this location you will find gourmet restaurants, antique shops, bookstores, shops selling all kinds of electronics items, and theaters offering a variety of films and plays. Also, there are first-class medical centers, universities, and design schools. This area is known as the "Creative Corridor" of New York, with more than a thousand photographers, architects, publishers, graphic arts designers, countless Internet companies, government offices, and advertising companies. Union Square possesses the historical significance of being the location where many non-mainstream organizations go to advocate for their causes.

Compared with some of the other groups on the square who are deliberately provocative and loudly proclaim their agenda, Falun Gong practitioners have established themselves as peaceful and well-behaved people. Practitioners quietly distribute flyers that introduce the practice of Falun Gong to passers-by, and patiently clarify the facts about the persecution of practitioners in China to those who want to know more about the situation.

Last Saturday, Ms. Li met a Native American who was living in New York. She told this person about the Falun Gong practitioners in China being beaten and sent to forced labor camps by the Chinese police. This daughter of a former Native American Tribal leader immediately took a stack of flyers from Ms. Li and said, "Let me assist you in distributing these!"

Rose, a high school teacher from Ohio, was teaching a group of tourists the five sets of Falun Gong exercises. Among them was a woman from Peru who excitedly said, "I have found it! I have found it!" She then told Rose about a dream she had. One night, about two weeks ago, she dreamt that her niece told her she was ill and needed to practice the "five sets of exercises." The woman thought for some time but could not understand what the five sets of exercises were. The next day, she phoned her niece to discover that her niece was seriously ill. She asked her niece what "five sets of exercises" meant but her niece did not know either. A few days after she arrived in New York, as she was walking along 42nd Street, a Falun Gong practitioner handed her a Falun Gong newspaper and said to her in limited English, "five sets of exercises." The lady was amazed and delighted; amazed that such a miracle had happened, and delighted because she had finally found the five sets of exercises that she had heard about in her dream.

Some Westerners were surprised to see fellow westerners wearing yellow T-shirts handing out flyers alongside the Chinese practitioners. Professor Lucia of Ohio State University has met people who have asked her in astonishment, "Why are there Caucasian Falun Gong practitioners?" Lucia was very happy to have the opportunity to tell people about how practicing Falun Gong had healed the back pain that had plagued her for many years, and how Falun Gong has fundamentally changed her. Not only has the practice spread all over the world and people outside of China been practicing Falun Gong for some time, but the persecution of Falun Gong by the Jiang administration has also been revealed to the rest of the world, including how it affects every nation worldwide.

Practitioners have experienced the intense heat of summer and the pleasant coolness of the autumn in Union Square. The people in Manhattan have become used to seeing Falun Gong practitioners in their yellow T-shirts, clarifying the truth. After seeing practitioners many times, receiving flyers, and having many conversations with them, the beauty of Falun Gong and the horrible persecution of practitioners in China have been conveyed to the people of Manhattan. They in turn are passing this information on to the rest of the world.

Manhattan is Changing, the People of New York are Awakening

One week before leaving for official business, a fellow practitioner from Germany and I took the opportunity to visit Manhattan, New York City to clarify the facts about the true nature of Falun Gong and the persecution in China.

This was my fourth visit to New York. My previous impressions of Manhattan had been that it was a jungle of high-rise buildings, with a high-rhythm pulse of unending business transactions, full of tourists and residents who were unfeeling and unfriendly. However, due to the presence of great numbers of Falun Gong practitioners on the streets clarifying the facts, the city's residents seemed to have changed a great deal. Manhattan has awakened from its slumber. The people were shocked and moved by the anti-torture exhibits and the informational display boards erected or carried by practitioners. People are asking questions as they begin to comprehend and condemn this most evil persecution, and people have begun to show support for our righteous and just actions. A few brief examples follow.

During our "Great Wall of Courage" event, an American stopped in front of our truth clarification boards and looked at a banner for some time. The banner said, "Please Help Stop the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in China." Finally he said to us, "I would like to have this banner as I will be going to Beijing. I want to show it to the people there." We told him that it would be a dangerous thing to do. However, he was determined to have the banner. After some discussion, we gave him the banner.

One time, as we were buying fruit in a small shop, we saw the proprietor making a phone call. When she saw us wearing yellow T-shirts and holding Falun Gong newspapers in our hands, she immediately said to her Asian employee, "Do you know they are Falun Gong practitioners? Do you know that Falun Gong practitioners are persecuted in China?" The employee answered in the negative. So she started to talk to her employee about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. We quickly gave some materials to the employee. A lady waiting behind us immediately stretched out her hand and asked, "May I have a copy too?" We gave her the information too. At that moment, we were greatly inspired by the fact that so many people in New York already knew the facts, and they are in turn telling the facts to other people. That made us very happy deep in our hearts.

Many practitioners stayed in a hotel near Times Square. At the street corner were a number of street vendors, one of whom was a Chinese person drawing people's names with colored inks. After listening to practitioners clarifying the facts, he understood the truth about the goodness of Falun Gong, and he started to write in both Chinese and English, "Falun Dafa is Good." He hung it on the front of his drawing board. Everyone who walked by that day could see what he had written.

One day, as we walked past a stall on 42^nd Street (we were not wearing Dafa shirts at that time), the stall owner asked, "Are you Chinese?" We said, "Yes." He said, "For your own sakes, don't go back to China. Please look at the persecution happening in China." Having said that, he gave us some fact-clarification newspapers that had been given to him by Falun Gong practitioners.

On another occasion, as were walking close to the park near City Hall, we were holding up a display board that said, "Please Help Stop the Persecution in China." At that moment a few people came up behind us. One of them was a woman who said to the fellow practitioner from Germany, "May I ask if you speak English?" The practitioner pointed at me and said, "She can." The woman turned to me and asked, "You know English?" I replied, "Just a little." She continued, "I have read your fact-clarification materials. How can we help stop the persecution?" Using my limited English I replied, "Please tell everyone. Let them understand the persecution. You can also write letters to people you know." As she nodded her head, she said, "Good. Now I know. I will do it."

There are many Korean and Japanese people along Broadway near 32^nd Street. Initially, most of these people just walked past the anti-torture exhibit without any expression on their faces. They were not willing to accept any Falun Gong materials. However, on the day before we left New York, we saw that more and more Koreans and Japanese people stopped and looked at our simulation of the tortures, read the information on the display boards, and accepted our fact-clarification materials. On one occasion two Koreans, dressed like business people, saw us distributing fact-clarification materials. One of them pointed at me and said to the other, "Look, Falun Gong." Then he walked towards me and said in English, "I support Falun Gong." I replied, "Thank you."

In the first week of August, practitioners from my area arrived in Manhattan one after another and participated in the important truth-clarification activities there. Practitioners from my area live far apart and are very busy so it is difficult for us to keep in touch. This experience was a very good chance for us to become one body. We kept in contact with each other, planned carefully, divided into several smaller groups and drove to New York City.

In the following three days of clarifying the truth in Manhattan, some of the practitioners participated in the anti-torture exhibitions, some passed out flyers on the streets and some went to the markets and other gatherings to clarify the truth about the practice and the persecution of Falun Gong.

An elderly couple in their 70's stood on the streets every day. The husband couldn't stand too long so he would take a break by sitting on a small stool. His wife carried a "sandwich board." On the front of the board was information about the practice of Falun Gong, and on the back was information exposing the persecution and torture taking place in China. The display was very eye-catching. The couple would give out flyers at the same time. They said that there are only 52 weeks in a year and we don't have much time. We have to utilize every opportunity to clarify the truth.

In our group is a 60-something-year-old practitioner from Israel. She carried a 2-pocket shoulder bag. She had all kinds of materials in the bag, from truth-clarification materials to sitting mats, as well as a small MP3 player that plays Falun Gong music. She left her house at 9 a.m. every day, and returned to her home around 7 to 8 p.m. Yet she was always energetic when she clarified the truth and always had a smile on her face. She would compassionately talk to anyone who passed by that showed an interest.

This practitioner said that when she clarifies the truth, she doesn't care who they are or what background people have, she talks to them with her heart. She sincerely looks into their eyes and tells them what Falun Gong is, and that a group of innocent people are being persecuted in China.

In the first few days of my trip, some practitioners felt tired like they never had before. When we think back, we can see that it was because we didn't take sending forth righteous thoughts seriously enough.

There are many pedestrians in New York and they walk fast. They looked indifferent and they ignored our presence. This is only the reflection in this dimension. In the other dimensions the evil had gathered in New York and controlled ordinary people. Therefore, we need to send forth righteous thoughts seriously and eliminate the evil in other dimensions. When the other dimensions are cleansed, then people will awaken.

We went to two different anti-torture exhibitions, and further experienced the importance of having righteous thoughts. The first anti-torture exhibition was close to the edge of a park. It's a popular park for many joggers and people looking for a place to relax. The practitioners were very focused on exposing the persecution and clarifying the truth, but many passers-by seemed numb. The practitioners meditating were very sleepy as well, and were swaying left and right.

In the other anti-torture exhibition, we noticed a difference. The person in charge reminded everyone to send forth righteous thoughts every hour. The practitioners practicing the exercises would stop and sit down to send forth righteous thoughts on the hour. Some practitioners would send forth righteous thoughts in their minds while continuing other activities. This location is in a crowded and mixed area. There were a lot of drunken people and some with unclear consciousness came over and made distracting noises. Regardless, the practitioners focused on sending forth righteous thoughts and the truth-clarification was very effective. There were crowds of people looking at the exhibit boards. It was almost overwhelming talking to everyone at once. The practitioners' meditation postures were very accurate. Many people were drawn to watch.

What we do is different from what ordinary people do. Studying the Fa (1), sending forth righteous thoughts and clarifying the truth are all things we cannot neglect. Especially during this last period of eliminating the evil, we have to place great emphasis on sending forth righteous thoughts, on clarifying the truth and bringing salvation to sentient beings.

In late November 1997, I received a phone call from a friend who told me about Falun Dafa. When I read the book Zhuan Falun (1), the words, "A person should return to his original, true self--that's actually the true purpose of being human," moved me. Falun Dafa is different from anything I had studied before. When I realized that the purpose of being human is to return to one's original, true self, my mind cleared up and I cried with joy for having found the truth. I immediately registered for a nine-day Falun Dafa class held in Huangpu-xincun.

I had been sickly since childhood. My husband said to me, "You are taking medication 300 days out of the year." I suffered from migraines, a syndrome where I kept seeing flying objects, arrhythmia, nervous imbalance, twisting of the vertebrae, chronicle pelvic infection, a uterine tumor, hydrocele and kidney disease. Neither Eastern nor Western medicine could help me, and I lost confidence in both. I also practiced many types of qigong but my condition didn't improve. I felt hopeless and helpless, and that life was meaningless. In the first month after I started practicing Falun Gong, I read only a few pages of Zhuan Falun every day because my eyes were still sore. However, my body started to change. I had previously suffered from frequent migraines. Now my head had a worse reaction and I even vomited. But, after vomiting, my head no longer hurt! I also experienced great changes in my urinary system. I knew Master was purifying my body for me and I should persist in studying Falun Dafa, no matter how uncomfortable I felt. I read the Dafa books attentively and did the exercises. On the fifth day I felt as if I was reborn. When I opened my eyes in the morning, I felt that the world was beautiful and my body was very light. I straightened my back and was very happy. I also discarded several drawers full of medication because I no longer needed them.

My relationship with my husband changed from being antagonistic to one that was harmonious and caring. Three years ago my husband had taken on a project, and unexpectedly we went bankrupt overnight. I felt as if my world suddenly came apart. I was angry and bitter that my husband took on a project in a field in which he was not an expert. We stopped talking to each other and lived like strangers. After studying Dafa, I tried to walk a mile in my husband's shoes and realized that he was trying his best to provide for his family.

If I didn't have this experience, I may not have truly understood the joy and changes after studying Falun Dafa. It enabled me to face sharp criticism in a tolerant manner and to face difficult situations with broad-mindedness and forgiveness. I discovered that I was often stubbornly blaming other people in the past. I used to be aggressive and overbearing, but because of Falun Gong practice, I changed my attitude and have become warm and considerate. As a result, I am now a better wife and mother. My anger and bitterness also disappeared.

My 18-year-old son became more studious and willing to help others after he learned Falun Dafa. His classmates nicknamed him "golden boy" and his teachers love him. My 13-year-old son also studies Falun Dafa and conducts himself as a practitioner all the time. I never expected the changes that took place in them. I know that Dafa has taken root in their hearts. I now have more confidence in them and do not worry about them.

Through constant Fa (1) study, I became more aware of the profundity of Dafa and my heart grew more steady and content. Whenever a conflict arises, I try my best to look inward to see if I was up to the standard, whether I was being just and sincere, or if I was being greedy and attached to something. I try to deal with things with a calm mind, and problems are solved easily. I will cherish the opportunity to practice Falun Gong, truly a remarkable and wonderful cultivation method.

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Li Chunwen, sixty-one years of age, was from Wujiazhuang Village, Xiulin Township, Jingyang County, Hebei Province. He suffered years of cruel and inhuman persecution because of his steadfast belief in Falun Dafa and died on June 10, 2004.

Li Chunwen developed rheumatic heart disease when he was forty-eight years old. He sought out doctors everywhere for medical treatment, did not obtain any relief. While feeling hopeless about life, someone introduced him to the practice of Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) in 1995. Just a few days after Mr. Li learned Falun Gong, all his symptoms disappeared. His health became better and better, day by day. His cheeks turned rosy and he became energetic. Everyone commented that he had totally changed.

Li Chunwen told everyone he met, "I could have lost my life a long time ago, if I had not practiced Falun Gong. It is Falun Gong that saved my life."

Mr. Li required himself to follow the principles of Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance, the main principles of Falun Gong. He volunteered to teach other people the practice of Falun Gong, no matter what time of day, or how far away. As long as there were people who wanted to learn Falun Gong, he would go help them without any complaint regardless of the weather. Because of his enthusiastic help, many people began practicing Falun Gong and thus benefited from it. People said, "Li Chunwen has improved both mentally and physically after practicing Falun Gong. How powerful Falun Gong truly is!"

Falun Gong has been treated unfairly since July 20, 1999, when the persecution began. Like other Falun Gong practitioners, Li Chunwen tried to go to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. However, he was illegally arrested together with many other practitioners before he could realize his wish, because of the massive deployment of law-enforcement personnel, relentless pursuit, checkpoints, abductions, beatings and suppression of Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Li was arrested, interrogated, threatened, and detained. Later on, the police released everyone, only after they paid an illegal fine of 200 yuan (500 yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China).

On February 9, 2000, Li Chunwen was arrested again by Tian Yongfeng and Du Yongsheng, the director and the deputy director of the Xiulin Township Police Station, because he refused to give up practicing Falun Gong. He was handcuffed to a large tree and also to a steel door. The policemen stripped off his coat, and kept him handcuffed from the early morning to very late at night. Soon after that, they put him in a confinement room and handcuffed him to a bed for nine days. When it was extremely cold in winter, they handcuffed him in a cold room, or outside, with just one thin layer of clothing. Whenever he needed to use the restroom, he had to ask for permission many times before he would be allowed to go. Sometimes he had to urinate in his pants in the cold weather. His nasal mucous turned to ice.

However, Li Chunwen still refused to give up practicing Falun Gong despite this brutal persecution. Ten days later, the policemen secretly drove him to an abandoned office at The Sixth Pottery Factory that had been vacated, to persecute him more cruelly.

The policemen stood around Li Chunwen. The officer on the left was holding a stick to beat him, while the one on the right was holding an electric baton to shock him. The two officers at the back and front were holding a thin rope that was tied around him and pulled him in opposite directions, forcing Li Chunwen to kneel down. Then these two policemen trampled his calves with their full force (Note: This torture method is called "Putting on Strings"). Six young men were torturing one older man. They placed a thin rope under his arms, and while two of them used all their strength to pull him up, the other two stood on his calves. Such pulling upward while pressing down caused the thin rope to quickly cut into the flesh under his arms, causing instant bleeding. Li Chunwen had difficulty breathing and was sweating heavily after five minutes of the first round of being "stringed." He stopped breathing after ten minutes. The policemen released him when they saw that he was about to die and forced him to some drink water. If he refused to drink, they would use the police batons to beat him and the electric baton to shock him. Then they tortured him again for a second and third round, until the policemen became too exhausted to continue.

After Li Chunwen was tortured like this, his body was covered with blood and his mouth was bleeding because he had bitten his lips out of pain. His legs were so weak that he could not stand. When one policeman saw this, he said, "How cruel the deputy director is! He has no human nature!" On the next day, Li Chunwen and fifteen other Dafa practitioners were put in a meeting room where they were paired off and handcuffed together. They were not allowed to sleep. One of them could only squat for a second, while the other was standing. Both men and women were forced to stay in one room, eating, drinking, and relieving themselves together in the same room. At night they were given a water bucket to be used as a toilet. During the daytime, each one had to use a small plastic bag for relieving themselves.

While the policemen were torturing Falun Gong practitioners, they extorted money from them. The biggest amount was up to 10,000 yuan and the smallest amount was 1,000 yuan. If the practitioners paid the money, the policemen would release them. Otherwise, the policemen would continue to detain them in the confinement room. Such inhuman persecution lasted until February 23. The policemen sent Li Chunwen and others to Xiantai for forced brainwashing. At Xiantai, Li Zhongyong, Deputy Director of the county police department, was in charge. The court, Judiciary Bureau, and each township police station sent one person to monitor the practitioners. The practitioners were forced to do heavy manual work from morning to late at night. They were starved to the point that they were dizzy and weak. The practitioners were only allowed to have nine ounces of food daily. The Xuilin Township authorities then took them home and detained them in iron cages for twenty days. The iron cages were normally used for detaining violent prisoners. There was urine and excrement in the cages. There was no place to sleep and the practitioners were not fed properly. The unlawful personnel forced the family practitioners' members to pay a 3,000 yuan fine before they would release them. Being tortured like this for fifty-one days, Li Chunwen, once healthy and strong, turned thin and sallow and was extremely weak.

After Li Chunwen came home, the county police department, the township government, and the local police station came to his home to harass him once every few days at all times of the day and night. Whenever there was a holiday or a "sensitive day" (1) they would abduct him without any reason and detain him for as long as one month. For example, when Li Chunwen was working his land on April 25, 2001 while his wife was looking after their daughter who had just given birth to a baby in the county hospital, a group of policemen and township leaders came to his property and arrested him illegally. Then, they went to the hospital and forcefully abducted his wife, totally ignoring the condition of the newborn baby and the baby's mother. They detained the elderly couple in a cave under the township government building for five days. During that time, they did not have any space to sleep or sit. It was extremely uncomfortable, because the cave was filthy and damp. Then Mr. Li and his wife were detained in a meeting room for one month and were fined 1,000 yuan. Li Chunwen had to sell all his crops to pay the "fine" for their release. The policemen and the government officials released them only after they paid the money. It was the continuous abductions and abuse that severely damaged the health of Li Chunwen and his wife.

On August 10, 2001, officers from the Xuilin Township Police Station broke into their home again and ruthlessly harassed the couple. They forced Mr. Li and his wife to go to the police station, but he refused. The next day, two people from the township government came to his home to force him to go to the government office. He refused again. On August 12, two people from the police station came again to harass them. At about 5:00 p.m., two more people from the police station came while the couple was working in their field. They were harassed like this again and again. As a result, the couple decided not to go home and stayed in the mountains for two days and two nights. They could not remain there however, and went home again, because it was very cold and there was no food. Then, about nine people led by Liu Yongbin, director of the police station, went to their home and illegally arrested them.

The relentless, cruel torture severely damaged Li Chuwen's health. He was so weak and thin that he would fall down frequently. He could not breathe properly and his internal organs were constantly in pain. He could not eat, drink or sleep properly. In this condition, his life lasted until June 10, 2004. On that day, Li Chunwen fell down unconscious and died.

(1) "Sensitive days" refer to dates that are significant to Falun Dafa, or national holidays or political meetings. The authorities often fear that Dafa practitioners will appeal on these days.

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Chen Heping was 53 years old. He lived in Yanwo Town, Honghu City, Hubei Province. Mr. Chen Heping began practicing Falun Dafa in November 1998. On December 28, 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. The "610 Office" of Honghu City arrested him and sentenced him to two years in Shayang Labor Camp of Hubei Province. While in the labor camp, he was subjected to many tortures and forced to do hard labor. He developed high blood pressure while there. On September 28, 2001, Mr. Chen was released on medical parole when his health deteriorated.

In October 2002, during the People's Congress and the Political Consultation Conference, the policemen from the Second Detention Center of Honghu City arrested Mr. Chen Heping from his bed. They tortured him for three months. In October 2003, he was unjustly brought to a brainwashing center and persecuted until he became very frail. Due to the prolonged period of harassment and physical torture, Mr. Chen Heping passed away at 2 p.m. on October 15, 2004.

(Clearwisdom.net) Around 9 a.m. on February 14, 2003, right after the Chinese New Year's Festival, policemen Xiao Aiqiu and Wang Limei (the No.5 Group Leader who is in charge of brainwashing Falun Gong practitioners) called Falun Dafa practitioner Zhao Qiumei to the guards' room and cruelly beat her because she refused to write a "thought report" (the authorities require certain slanderous words against Falun Gong in the "thought report"). As soon as Zhao Qiumei entered the guards' room, she saw an electric baton on the table. Right away, Wang Limei walked into the room and picked up the electric baton from the table and started to shock her. Xiao Aiqiu quickly went to get some handcuffs, and put them on Zhao Qiumei by force. Wang Limei continued to shock Ms. Zhao with the electric baton. Group leader Wen Yin, along with Li Wenna and Zhang Lihong then entered the room and beat and kicked Zhao Qiumei down to the ground. Once she was on the ground, Li Wenna removed the handcuffs and proceeded to handcuff her hands behind her back and bound her legs with three leather belts. Wang Limei shocked Zhao Qiumei's head and neck. Xiao shocked her hand, back, face, neck and head. While they tortured her with electric batons, Wang violently kicked Zhao Qiumei's chest and shoulder and Xiao fiercely kicked Ms. Zhao's back, shoulder and side for over two hours.

After the beating, someone had to help Zhao Qiumei walk back to her room. Her hands were swollen, black and blue, and her right eye and right eyebrow were bleeding. She could not raise her right arm. She could not straighten her back to stand up and walk straight. Her left leg was lame. Zhao Qiumei was beaten to this extent simply because she did not follow the wicked orders to write a "thought report."

(Clearwisdom.net) On the evening of June 26, 2004, another round of persecution was initiated against Falun Dafa practitioners in Huangmei County, Hubei Province. The perpetrators were personnel from the Huangmei County Government Committee, the Political and Judiciary Committee, the police station, the court, and others, carrying out orders from Jiang's and Luo's faction. These government employees and officials, as well as police officers from all levels, went out to persecute Dafa practitioners. Since that night, police vehicles have been seen everywhere on the freeways, streets and lanes. All electric power poles were watched so that Dafa practitioners could not use them to clarify the truth, and all practitioners were closely monitored.

Large groups of people surrounded Dafa practitioners' homes. For example, more than forty police officers and many township cadres surrounded the home of Yuan Jiru in Wuli Village, Konglong Town. When Dafa practitioners refused to open their door, the authorities kicked the door, tried to pry it open, and finally knocked the door down with wooden logs. Amid the resulting roars, shouts and curses of the perpetrators and the whine of sirens, the neighbors became frightened and nervous.

Since June 26, to resist this renewed round of persecution, many Dafa practitioners in Huangmei County have left their homes, have gone to their relatives' homes, or have wandered homeless, picking up trash for a living. A number of Dafa practitioners in the countryside had to abandon their fields. Because of this persecution, many Dafa practitioners could not even afford the most basic lifestyle.

Since June 26, according to incomplete statistics, more than 400 Dafa practitioners' homes were illegally searched and ransacked, and many Dafa books, audio and video tapes, and truth-clarifying materials were confiscated. More than 100 Dafa practitioners were arrested and taken to the county's No. 1 and No. 2 Detention Centers, and to a police "detention and law education class" for brainwashing. One practitioner became disabled from beating, six were put into a forced labor camp, and five were forced to leave their homes to avoid further persecution. Following are some additional facts:

Dafa practitioner Ms.Hu Borong, a medical doctor, was arrested by enforcers from the Xiaochi Town Police Department. Chen Honggang, the police chief, called up five officers. At first they threatened Dr. Hu, then they brutally beat her. Three policemen pushed Hu Borong's hands and feet against the wall. Two policemen used their palms first, then used fists, then kicked and beat her all over her body. While beating her, the police said, "So many [practitioners] were beaten to death. What does it matter if there is one more." Doctor Hu Borong's face and eyes were swollen and blackened. Her legs were beaten so severely they became paralyzed, and have not yet recovered. She was sent to the County No. 1 Detention Center for further abuse and persecution. Dr. Hu went on a hunger strike to protest. She was close to death after more than twenty days of being on a hunger strike, but the authorities still sent her to the Shayang Forced Labor Camp. Administrators at the Shayang Labor Camp were afraid that Dr. Hu would die and therefore refused to accept her, so the authorities had to finally release her.

Dafa practitioner Ms. Yu Liangzhen, from Xiaochi Town, had been widowed for several years and lived with her two teen-aged daughters and one young son. Prior to practicing Falun Dafa she had many illnesses, and made a living selling vegetables. After she began practicing Falun Dafa, all her illnesses disappeared, and her life improved. Since Jiang began the persecution of Falun Dafa however, Ms.Yu could not live peacefully. She was detained after appealing for Falun Dafa, was forced to pay a high "boarding fee," and was sent to a brainwashing class. Her family was harassed and their home was ransacked, and to aggravate her situation, the police sent her to the Shayang Forced Labor Camp for one year and three months. Even some police officers said, "That's too much!" People in the township said, "They [the authorities] don't care about people's lives. The poor children don't have a father, and now they are robbed of their mother. It is so evil!"

Dafa practitioner Fei Yulan from Xiaochi Town was illegally put into a labor camp for three years. Her husband, Gui Xunhua, who is also a Dafa practitioner, died as a result of the persecution on June 1, 2002 (Clearwisdom.net reported this incident). To arrest Fei Yulan, the authorities allocated dozens of people to surround her home. They arrested Ms. Fei by force, and took her to the "law education class" in the county for brainwashing. Fei Yulan later climbed over the wall to escape, but had to stay away from home to avoid further persecution. Her three young children were left unattended.

The lawless officials in Konglong Town arrested all those who had practiced Falun Gong, including those who had given up the practice or who had only browsed the teachings, and even people who had only heard about someone practicing Falun Gong. If the person they were looking for was not found, they would take a family member as a stand-in. Each person had to pay 100 Yuan (1) to join the brainwashing class for "reformation." More than sixty practitioners in the town were arrested and forced to undergo brainwashing. To avoid this round of persecution, many practitioners left home.

On July 1, 2004, Dafa practitioner Wang Chonghua from Xingyu Village, Konglong Town was arrested while clarifying the truth about Falun Dafa and the persecution. Police officer Mei Zezhong led a gang to arrest him at around 3:00 p.m. They took him to a room and brutally beat him while ordering him to reveal the names of the Falun Gong "organization" and the names of fellow practitioners. Mr. Wang didn't say anything. The police then cut his mouth with the back of a knife blade, and shocked his ankles and buttocks with an electric baton. The electric baton broke during the beating, and they switched to a rubber baton. Mr. Wang's feet were badly swollen yet the police still kept beating him. Two young police officers beat Mr. Wang, taking turns until 9:00 a.m. the following morning, before releasing him.

On July 2, 2004, Dafa practitioner Wang Chuping from Wanglongdang Dun, Wangtian Village, Konglong Town was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. Police officer Yin Xiaofeng and another officer beat him cruelly. They used a leather belt to lash him, and also burned his face, feet, and hands with cigarette butts, and took turns beating, punching and kicking him until midnight.

Officials in Fenlu Town trained cadres from the local police station, the court, the accounting office, and the school to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They held a brainwashing class, and all people who had ever practiced Falun Gong were arrested and brought in for "reformation." Those who refused to write the five "Guarantee Statements" were sent directly to the Hubei Province Shayang Forced Labor Camp.

Officials in Huangmei Town alone arrested 13 Dafa practitioners who were over 60 years old on the evening of June 26. They put the six older couples among them into jail for further persecution. These people were not released until 15 days later.

The authorities in Caishan Town monitored every Dafa practitioner day in and day out, from June 26 to July 25. They staked out Dafa practitioners' homes, and forcefully entered by breaking down doors or windows. Almost all the electrical power poles were monitored by specific personnel, to prevent practitioners from posting truth-clarification flyers. To achieve the quota allocated by higher officials, the police sentenced Wang Shixiong to fifteen months in a labor camp, even though they couldn't find any evidence at his home. Dafa practitioner Zhai Yuemei was sentenced to fifteen months and sent to the Shayang Forced Labor Camp.

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Li Xuewei lived in Japan for seven years. In February 2000, when she went to visit her relatives in China, she was arrested for having a Falun Dafa in Japan newspaper with her. The Chinese authorities illegally detained and threatened her. They revoked her passport, thus preventing her from returning to Japan with her husband. After suffering four years of persecution, she was illegally sentenced to seven years in prison on September 21, 2004.

During this period, Ms. Li's relatives and friends were suffering severe stress because of her situation. Her husband, who was heavily in debt, overcame many difficulties to travel to China to help his wife. However, there are no laws and no justice system to protect Falun Gong or its practitioners in China. No attorneys have the courage to represent her case. Jiang's state terrorism overrules the country's constitution and has become the "law" in persecuting Falun Gong.

Ms. Li's daughter turns six years old this year. Longing for her mother's return, she often cries quietly because she doesn't want others to hear her. She keeps saying, "When my mom is back, we'll go to Japan with my dad. We'll never be apart again."

Ms. Li is thirty-five, and worked as a kindergarten teacher. Her husband found a job in Japan in 1990, so Ms. Li joined him there in 1993. In 1996, Ms. Li suddenly contracted a serious case of pulmonary tuberculosis and was coughing up blood. The medical examination indicated that her lung was perforated; therefore she went to China for medical treatment. Although she tried hard to find an effective treatment, the disease was not cured. However, she miraculously recovered after practicing Falun Gong, and returned to Japan.

In February 2000, Ms. Li went to China to participate in the Spring Festival with her relatives. Policeman Liu Jie took her to the Huancui District Police Department in Weihai City because she had a Falun Dafa in Japan newspaper in her possession. The police
then confiscated her passport. She returned the next day to get her passport, when the police arrested her and illegally jailed her for 15 days. Afterward, a stranger and Long Lin, an agent from the Weihai City National Security Bureau, came to her home and threatened her. They said that only under one condition would they let her return to Japan: "You must work for the Chinese Intelligence Agency as a spy."

Ms. Li righteously rejected their demand, "Falun Dafa has no secrets. It is impossible for me to work for you. I would rather remain here than work for you as a spy."

Ms. Li tried to get her passport back, but the authorities refused. Ms. Li moved to Changchun City and later returned by train to Weihai City to try again to retrieve her passport. The police then claimed they had transferred the case to the Jilin Provincial Police Department. When Ms. Li went there, she was told that they had revoked her passport, thus preventing Ms. Li from returning to Japan. In addition, her two-year-old daughter's passport was automatically revoked because she couldn't apply for a visa to Japan. As a result, the family has been torn apart.

Upon hearing the bad news, Li Xuewei's husband was worried sick about his wife and daughter. He became exhausted and bitter from the pressure and his business went bankrupt. He had to resort to physical labor to repay a debt, which is equivalent to hundreds of thousands of yuan. The family were to have become permanent Japanese residents soon, but they have been torn apart by the Chinese authorities.

With no judicial authorities to hear her appeal, on August 1, 2001, Li Xuewei went to the Tiananmen Square Appeals Office to personally appeal her situation. She was detained, but was finally released because of the efforts of many friends.

Li Xuewei was again arrested at 6 p.m. on November 17, 2003, as she was taking several Falun Dafa books and some blank CDs to fellow practitioner Huang Yuxing, a pharmacist at the Second Institute of Jilin University. Five police officers were lying in wait from the National Security Detachment of the Changchun City Police Department, the Nanguan District Police Department and the Quan'an Police Station. They took Ms. Li to the basement of a building in Jingyuantan, a secret place far from downtown, used for torturing Falun Gong practitioners.

The perpetrators lit only a candle to create an atmosphere of fear. It was very cold, so the police wore overcoats, but Ms. Li had on only light autumn clothing. They tortured Ms. Li in two-hour shifts. They beat, kicked and hung her up by her handcuffed hands. They then attempted to suffocate her with smoke and a plastic bag. To intensify the torture, the police punched her stomach while holding a plastic bag over her head. In addition, the police forced her to do "flying airplane" (a particularly painful position) and to stay that way for hours on end. The major abusers were from the National Security detachment of the city police department. Policeman Ma from the Nanguan District Department was also very vicious. He inserted bottles under her handcuffs to further tighten them around her wrists.

On August 20, 2004, after being illegally detained for nine months, Li Xuewei was sentenced in court, but the case was returned to the prosecutor's office for an unknown reason. However, on September 21, the court sentenced her to seven years in prison. Insisting on her innocence, Ms. Li filed an appeal.

Facing his wife's desperate situation and worried about his daughter, Li Xuewei's husband had to return to Japan alone. The three members of the family must now live in three different places.

(Clearwisdom.net) Yu Xiuling, a practitioner who used to live in Chaoyang City, was tortured to death at the Longcheng Public Security Branch on September 19, 2001. She left behind two young daughters. The younger daughter was less than three years old at the time and lives with her aunt. Her older daughter, Feng Guangjing, lives with her father.

Yu Xiuling, a farmer assigned to Team Four, was born in Tuchengzi Village in Damiao Town, Chaoyang City, in 1969. She started to learn Falun Dafa in 1999. On September 14, 2001, policemen from the Longcheng Public Security Branch abducted her from her home. Five days later, she was tortured to death. Huang Dianxiang and Sun Xun are responsible for her death. Her body was cremated the same day that she died, with only her husband and her brother as witnesses. Her family was not given a choice in the matter, and all other relatives were absent.

At the time of Yu Xiuling's death, Feng Guangjing, her older daughter, was less than thirteen years old. She is now in the eighth grade at Damiao High School in Chaoyang County. Her father Feng Dianxiang is taking care of her.

Yu Xiuling's second daughter, Feng Lei, was not yet three years old when her mother was tortured to death. Since Feng Lei was so young, her father could not take care of her, and she was sent to an aunt to be raised. Now Feng Lei is six years old and still lives with her aunt and uncle in Laoxigou Village in Damiao Town, Chaoyang County.

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently, as the interest in Falun Gong among the Korean public has been constantly increasing, media outlets which formerly weren't allowed to report on Falun Gong started to report on this issue intensively. Korea is one of the nations around the world with advanced Internet online media outlets. DAUM, for example, has more than 10,000,000 members and every day there are several million Koreans who visit this website. OhmyNews is another Korean online media giant and it recently published a detailed report on Falun Gong which was later cited by DAUM.

The report is an analytical report on the reasons for the persecution. It detailed opinions of many scholars who believe that the personal jealousy of Jiang Zemin, the fear of the request by Falun Gong practitioners for a legal practice environment as well the dissatisfaction of the general public, together posed a perceived threat to the ruling party dictatorship. Due to the reasons above, according to the scholars interviewed by OhmyNews, the ruling party [Jiang's regime] started the persecution of Falun Gong.

The report also objectively reported about the fast spread of Falun Gong since its introduction to the public in 1992 and practitioners' appeal to the central government on April 25, 1999. Along with the article, OhmyNews also published a photo of practitioners' peaceful group practice in China before the persecution.

(Clearwisdom.net) On June 28, 2004, several Australian Falun Gong practitioners arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa to raise awareness of the persecution of Falun Gong in China during the visit of Chinese Deputy President Zeng Qinghong. On their way to the Capital City, Pretoria, they were attacked by gunmen in a drive-by shooting. This obvious attack by the Jiang faction's hired gunmen drew worldwide attention to the persecution of Falun Gong. In the shooting incident, the story of Falun Gong practitioner David Liang, who had both feet severely injured in the attack, stuck a sympathetic chord in numerous people.

According to a report from the news website, The Epoch Times, David Liang recently returned to South Africa. His amazing recovery in just three months, without any major medical treatment, once again caused a sensation in society.

David Liang, a Chinese-Australian Falun Gong practitioner was shot in both feet in the South Africa shooting incident on June 28. He was taken to a hospital for immediate treatment of the wounds and released. After he went back to Australia, Mr. Liang refused to have an amputation or skin transplants as suggested by some surgeons, and instead, he chose to stay at home to recuperate. During the three months of recuperating at home, except for practicing Falun Gong every day, he did not take any other treatment. Now, David is able to walk without the help of crutches. In addition, he is also able to drive for a short distance. On October 17, David returned to South Africa.

More than 10 media outlets in South Africa reported on the shooting incident, which received broad attention from all levels of society.

"The reason why I came back to South Africa is to express my gratitude to the people of South Africa who helped and supported me after the attack. I would like to share with people here the miracle of my being able to walk again in just three months through practicing Falun Gong. I would like to share with people the beauty of Falun Dafa," said David Liang.

"I did not take the hospital's suggestion of having an amputation. My right foot was shot through and consequently I had a golf-ball-size hole in my right ankle. The bones around the hole were all smashed. Even the best medical doctors in the world would have been unable to completely restore those fractured bones. Except for having an amputation, the doctors did not have any better suggestions. I didn't want to be permanently disabled. On the other hand, I know that numerous miracles have occurred among people who practice Falun Gong. Previously in China, many Falun Gong practitioners encountered car accidents or other types of incidents and their wounds and injuries were much more severe than mine. They quickly recovered through persistent practice of Falun Gong. Therefore, I was very confident that a similar miracle would also happen to me."

David Liang's amazing recovery drew great interest from society. The surgeon from Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the largest hospital in South Africa, who was the first doctor on David Liang's case, was very excited. He considered David's recovery an unbelievable phenomenon in medicine. He thanked David for coming back and sharing with him this news, and he set up an appointment with David to specifically discuss his recovery.

Mr. Robinson, Psychiatric Sociologist for the hospital, said that the psychiatric affect on physical health was really an important topic. With his firm belief in Falun Gong and his persistent practice, David Liang miraculously recovered from a potentially devastating injury. This once again demonstrated that one's mental state could tremendously affect one's physical health. Mr. Robinson is very interested in conducting research on Falun Gong, to explore how it can fundamentally improve one's mental and physical health.

Mr. Robinson and an intern physician decided to set up a Falun Gong practice site at the hospital and requested assistance from local Falun Gong practitioners in South Africa.

Local people who attended the introduction to Falun Gong develop great confidence in the practice upon hearing of David's miraculous recovery

One of the most influential newspapers in South Africa, the Sowetan, reported on David's story in a top news story entitled, "Chinese Man Recovers Without Treatment." The report compared diagnoses from two major hospitals, one from South Africa and another from Australia, with David's current situation, and validated the remarkable healing and fitness effect of Falun Gong. The report also confirmed that the hospital where David was hospitalized requested assistance from the practice of Falun Gong in the prevention and treatment of AIDS.

The most important radio station in South Africa among the Black population, Jozi FM, conducted a live interview with David regarding his return to South Africa. In the afternoon of the same day, a number of people went to the Soweto Falun Gong practice sites upon hearing the story on the radio. After witnessing the miracle that occurred with David Liang, many people expressed their great confidence in Falun Gong. A spokesperson from Jozi FM said that he was very pleased that Chinese people came to Soweto to share such a wonderful experience with the local people. He hoped that Jozi FM, as the hub and platform for the exchange of community information, could play a more effective role in this regard. The radio station is currently considering setting up a special program to broadcast Falun Gong lectures at set times each week.

In Tanzania, a large-scale human rights convention was held at Dar es Salaam last weekend. The convention was organized to discuss human rights violations in the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Mr. David Liang attended the convention as one of the main speakers.

(Clearwisdom.net) On September 24, 2004, Falun Gong practitioners were invited to introduce Falun Gong during a school event at the Martin Luther High School. A former teacher at the school who holds the responsibility for the events programs had watched a parade in a German town, in which Falun Gong participated. He was very moved by the dances, the vibrancy of the practitioners and the terrible truth about the cruel persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. A week later, because of his recommendation, Falun Gong participated on-stage in a school event as part of a cross-cultural program.

Once the Falun Dafa music echoed through the hall, everyone ceased to talk and watched the practitioners' slow and flowing exercise movements on the stage. During the performance that followed, more and more onlookers came into the hall to watch the performance.

After the performance, many of the visitors happily accepted flyers explaining about Falun Dafa and detailing the persecution taking place in China. Before leaving, the practitioners thanked the teachers and asked them sign their name on a petition signature collection sponsored by the International Society for Human Rights (ISHR) calling for practitioner Xu Youlin's release from illegal detention in China.

(Clearwisdom.net) On October 16, Swiss and German Falun Gong practitioners held an anti-torture exhibition in Solothurn, the capital of Solothurn State, to tell people about the genocide happening against Falun Gong under the direct orders of former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin.

On that day, the temperature suddenly dropped, with overcast skies and rain. The practitioners were unperturbed by this turn in the weather and held the activity according to schedule, along with sending forth righteous thoughts. The weather became better in the afternoon. A large number of passers-by stopped to watch the exhibition and talked with the practitioners. They were surprised by how systematic and brutal the persecution in China is. They signed their names on a petition calling for an immediate end to the cruel persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

Despite the heavy rain and cloudy weather, practitioners smiled as they handed out leaflets to people on the streets all day long.

Later on, the weather became clearer and better and so there were more people taking leaflets. Many Chinese people took our leaflets and thanked us for giving them information about Falun Gong. Part III. Detained Eleven Times

Coming Through the Ordeals of Repeated Detention and Torture

Chapter 2. A Difficult Journey to Appeal for Falun Gong

a) First Appeal

On December 3, 1999, a fellow practitioner who had just been released from Ankang Mental Hospital in Chengdu City and I decided to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. I took my 8-year-old son with me. I wanted to tell the government how I had seen improvement in every area of my life after I began to practice Falun Dafa.

At that time, the government had placed plainclothes policemen everywhere to block Falun Gong practitioners from going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Instead of going to Beijing directly, we decided to travel to Mianyang City in Sichuan Province by bus. Then we got on a train to Zhengzhou City in Henan Province. From there, we took an express train to Shijiazhuang City in Hebei Province. After that, we spent 800 yuan on a taxi from Shijiazhuang City to Beijing. We finally arrived at Laiguangying, a suburb of Beijing. We went to a temporary lodging place where practitioners from all over the country who had come to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong were staying. We arrived there on the morning of December 8, 1999. My original plan was to stay there for two more days so I could share experiences with other practitioners there and then go to make a formal appeal for Falun Gong. My son wanted to go home early so he could be there in time for the new semester in his school to start. A male practitioner with the surname of Nie was going to appeal for Falun Gong at Tiananmen Square that afternoon. My son decided to go with Mr. Nie to make his appeal, and they left together after lunch. The next morning, an unknown person came to interrogate us (besides me, three other practitioners from Sichuan Province were staying there). That person asked us if we practiced Falun Gong, and we answered yes. That person immediately placed a phone call using his cell phone. A bunch of people came in and kidnapped us. We were brought to the Laiguangying Police Station. Ten hours later, we were transferred to the Liaison Office of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province to Beijing.

b) The Chengdu Liaison Office

The Chengdu Liaison Office has a small courtyard in the back. The courtyard has a row of small rooms on three sides and a gate on the fourth side. Practitioners who were brought there were stripped-searched and then locked into the small rooms. I was forced to strip down to my underwear. The liaison office has a hotel. The woman who strip-searched me was probably a member of the staff of the hotel since she was wearing the hotel's uniform. Another female practitioner and I were locked in the same room. The guards took away one of my Dafa books and several hundred yuan left on me. They found a note I was carrying that contained the phone number of another practitioner, and placed the note on a table. I grabbed the note and swallowed it immediately because I did not want them to use it to persecute other practitioners. Feng Jiuwei, the evil head of the Chengdu Liaison Office, immediately ordered a guard with the surname of Wang to handcuff me. Wang dragged me outside and handcuffed me to a stone lion statue outside the main entrance of the liaison office. The weather was extremely cold. I was handcuffed there from 7 PM to a little after 11 PM. They then started to interrogate me. I told them, "Being a good person is not wrong. As a Chinese citizen, I have the right to file an appeal to the government. I haven't even had the chance to file my appeal yet, and I am already locked up here." They tried to force me to tell them who organized my trip to Beijing. I told them, "We have no organization of any sort. We are all doing this on our own." They could get nothing else out of me, so they locked me in Room # 6. During the illegal interrogation, the policeman asked me whether Zhong Caiyi was my son. It was only then that I learned my son was also being detained there. They locked me and my son up separately for 5 days before sending us back to Chengdu.

Before we left, around 3 PM, Feng Jiuwei, the head of the liaison office, came to see me again and said, "I'll give you 30 minutes to tell me the phone number on the note you swallowed the other day. Otherwise I'll call Chengdu and send you to prison for at least three years." He then got up and left. No matter what he said, my heart was not moved at all. After a long while, my son asked me, "Mom, it's been such a long time. Why hasn't the policeman come back?" Feng never did come back because he knew he didn't scare me a bit and I would never tell him anything.

Meanwhile, my son told me what happened to him after he went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong. This is what my son told me:

"When you accompanied me to the bus station that day so I could go to Tiananmen Square with Mr. Nie, my heart felt heavy and I did not want to say anything on the way there. As we got near the bus station, I slowed down my pace and hoped that time could tick slower. I wanted to stay with you just a little longer. You said to me, 'Son, after you get back home, remember to listen to your grandma. Study well at school and cultivate firmly.' I could not fight back my tears and answered yes in a choking voice. At that moment, no words could describe how sad I felt. I asked you, 'Mom, when will you be back?' You answered, 'I don't know.' We both cried then. It was snowing and we kept crying. I am only 8 years old, and yet I left you not knowing whether you were going to live or die, or if we would ever see each other again. When I got on the bus, I couldn't see clearly through my tears. As it was driven away, I stuck my head out of the window and saw the bus moving further and further away from you."

"After we arrived at Tiananmen Square, Mr. Nie and I walked to the middle of the square. I was a little nervous. There were not many people around. We stood there and started to practice the second exercise (Embracing the Law Wheel). Only a minute went by before I heard the sound of the police siren. I opened my eyes and saw the bystanders around us were all watching the two of us doing the exercise. A police van came and stopped in front of us. Several policemen jumped off the van and forced us into the van. A number of Falun Gong practitioners were already in the van. One policeman asked me, 'You are so little. What are you doing here?' I said, 'I am here to safeguard the Fa!' He said, 'Safeguard the Fa? You didn't mean to safeguard you hair (in Chinese, "Fa" and "hair" have the same pronunciation)?' Other policemen started to sneer at me. Then the policeman who questioned me slapped me hard on the face, and I began to cry. A young female practitioner took me into her arms and tried to comfort me, 'Don't cry. Don't cry. A little Dafa practitioner will not cry. Master Li likes young practitioners the most.' Soon after that, the police took us to a big room. The room was completely fenced in by tall iron posts. Inside the room, a long bed made of concrete ran alongside an entire wall. On the bed sat many Falun Gong practitioners. After we stayed in the room for about half an hour, the police took Mr. Nie and me to the Chengdu Liaison Office to Beijing. We were locked in a room. There were more than a dozen chairs and several tables inside the room. I placed several chairs next to one other and made a bed for myself. After I lay down, Mr. Nie took his coat off and put the coat over me. I was wakened by a loud noise later. A policeman was yelling at Mr. Nie and slapping him because he was angry at Mr. Nie for giving me his coat. After the policeman left, I asked Mr. Nie if the slap was painful. He said, 'Because I gave you my coat, I've been freezing. My face felt so cold that I could not feel any pain from the slap.' It was several degrees Celsius below zero at that time. A kind-hearted person tried to keep a child warm with his own clothes but was slapped by a policeman for doing that. What kind of a world is this? The lights in the room were on all the time. We could see through the curtains to see what time of the day it was, and I did not know how many days we were locked up there. One day, Mr. Nie said to me, 'Your mother is here.' I hastily asked, 'Where?' He said, 'Just outside.' I immediately tried to look outside through a crack in the curtains but couldn't see anything. My heart sunk again. Mr. Nie said, 'I saw her being locked up in another room.' About two days later, I saw you and ran to your side."

I was saddened to hear my young son being mistreated by the police. But then when I looked at his young face, joy and pride flowed from deep within me. I told him, "Son, you did very well!"

Several policemen were on their way back to Chengdu, and they took three other practitioners, my son, and me with them. They forced us to pay them 50 yuan each, claiming it was the transportation fee from the liaison office to the Beijing train station. After we were taken to the Beijing train station, they forced us to pay for the train tickets, including the cost of two beds on the train.

c) The Stewards Know the Truth

The policemen reserved a private cabin on the train so they could sleep more comfortably. The cabin had six beds with an upper, middle and lower level bed in each one. The three other practitioners, my son, and I were forced to share 2 beds. When the policemen slept at night, one of them remained awake to guard us. All of us were handcuffed to the beds.

One morning, upon hearing that we were Falun Gong practitioners, several stewards pulled up the curtain on the cabin window to take a look inside. A policeman told them, "Be careful. These Falun Gong people have supernormal abilities. You might get hurt." One steward said, "Actually, a lady who used to work in our department practices Falun Gong. She treats people very well and we all like her a lot. Who knows what happened? Once the government turned against Falun Gong, she was laid off for no reason."

d) Qingyang District Drug Rehabilitation Center

Two days later, at around 7AM, the train arrived in Chengdu City. We were met by a police van at the train station and taken to the Qingyang District Drug Rehabilitation Center. With a deafening noise, a loud megaphone blasted groundless slanders against Falun Gong and Master Li. The security guards inside the center guarded us closely. We were not allowed to speak. The police took my son away around noon. After dinner, they locked us in a big room and tried to brainwash us. I refused to listen to their lies and stood up to do the Falun Gong exercise. The security guard noticed me, and began to kick me. I was kicked outside. The guards forced other practitioners and me to take off our coats and stand outside in the freezing cold wind. At the beginning, the guards rolled up the plastic door panel so they could see us from inside the room. Even though they were eating a hot pot meal, they got too cold as time went on and cold air drifted in from the outside. So they gave up and let us back inside. We were forced to squat on the ground for a long period of time. My feet and legs became numb. When I was about to lose balance, I grabbed the iron frame nearby to brace myself. I requested to use the restroom. Only then I got a chance to rest a little. When I returned, I had to continue to squat.

e) Jiurucun Detention Center

After going through two days of forced brainwashing, I was sent to the Jiurucun Detention Center and illegally detained there for 15 days. The female section of the detention center was running out of room because it was holding too many female Falun Gong practitioners and had to clear out room in the male section to hold female practitioners. Nonstop broadcasting of lies to defame Dafa and Master was sent through loudspeakers every day. In such a filthy environment, I thought of Teacher's Fa from "Further Comments on Superstition,"

"The understanding of the Truth of the cosmos by students of Dafa cultivation is an elevation that results from rational understanding and experience. It's futile for human beings to refute--regardless of what their stance is--the Fa-principles of the cosmos, which transcend all theories in the human society. At a time when the morality of human society is on the verge of total collapse, in particular, it is the great cosmos that has once again shown mercy to human beings and given them this final chance. This is mankind's hope, which it should treasure and cherish immensely. Out of selfish wants, however, humans are undermining this last hope the cosmos has given mankind, infuriating Heaven and Earth. Ignorant people even call the many disasters "natural phenomena." The cosmos does not exist for mankind. Humans are merely a manifestation of the existence of the lowest-level beings. If humankind no longer meets the standard of existence at this level of the universe, then it can only be weeded out by the cosmos's history.

Mankind! Awaken! The ancient vows of Gods are being fulfilled. The Dafa is judging all beings. What path a person takes in life is his own choosing. One thought a person has might determine his future.

Treasure and cherish it: the cosmos's Fa-principles are right in front of you. (Essentials for Further Advancement II) ."

In order to make us give up the truth and accept the lies, the staff at the detention center forced us to read fabricated articles written by former Falun Gong practitioners who had been brainwashed and watch TV interviews of those former practitioners. Every day we were kept in dark cells with no daylight for a very long time. We were not allowed to study the Fa or do the exercises. We were often beaten with electric batons or tied up with ropes and left outside in the rain. Knowing that they had the former Chinese dictator, Jiang Zemin, behind them, the guards were extremely cruel toward practitioners. A practitioner with the surname of Wang tried to practice the Falun Gong exercises inside the detention center. The guards repeatedly beat her with electric batons. Then they tied her up with ropes and threw her outside in the rain without letting her eat first. She soon lost consciousness. Despite their cruelty, the vicious guard couldn't shake the faith of Falun Gong practitioners who understand the truth of the universe.

Half of a month passed and the New Year's Day of 2000 arrived. I was picked up by a policeman with the surname of Tang from the Longtansi Police Substation in Chengdu City. I thought he was going to let me go home since it was the holiday. Instead he took me to the police station. Tang asked me whether I was still going to practice Falun Gong. I replied, "Yes." Just because I said yes, after lunch he charged me with a criminal offense and sentenced me to 30 days at the Chengdu City #2 Detention Center located in Lianhua Village. When I arrived at my cell in the detention center, over 20 Falun Gong practitioners were already locked up there. We were not allowed to study the Fa or do the Falun Gong exercises. Each night we had to take turns staying up and doing sentinel duty. We had to sit on the bed and study the prison regulations daily. If we tried to practice Falun Gong exercises, the guards would place heavy shackles around our ankles and handcuff our hands either in the front or in the back. Both the hands and feet of Xing Chen, a college student in her twenties, became swollen and turned purple and black after the guards shackled her ankles and hands for long periods of time. She couldn't even eat or sleep. When her period came, other practitioners had to help her change her sanitary pads. When practitioners held a hunger strike to protest being mistreated, the guards would force-feed the practitioners through their noses. The whole process was hellish. We were allowed to purchase necessary items only once a week through the foreman of the jail cell. The items were priced two or three times higher than the actual market prices.

After being locked up in the detention center for 30 days, I thought I was going to be released and allowed to go home in time for the Chinese New Year. Once again, the same thing happened - the policeman from the Longtansi Police Station with the surname of Tang picked me up at the detention center. He once again asked me if I was going to continue to practice Falun Gong. When I answered yes, he sent me to the Wannianchang Police Substation. He claimed that even though my official residence registration said I was a resident of Longtansi, I actually fell under the jurisdiction of the Wannianchang Police Subtation because I owned a house in that district. After I arrived at Wannianchang police station, when the police there asked me if I was going to continue to practice Falun Gong, I again replied, "Yes." So they sent me back to the Jiurucun Detention Center. Like a soccer ball being kicked around, I was sent back and forth between various police stations and detention centers for 96 days. During that time, I was not allowed to go home or even take a shower. From December 7, 1999, the day when I arrived at Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested even before I had a chance to lodge my appeal, to March 2, 2000, I was officially detained six times without any breaks.

f) Policeman Wei Daping Extorted 3,000 Yuan from My Younger Brother

I finished serving yet another term at the detention center on March 2, 2000. I thought to myself, "I shouldn't allow myself to be detained here endlessly. No matter what, I need to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and let the central government know how the vicious policemen are abusing power and trampling on the basic human rights of innocent Falun Gong practitioners." When policeman Wei Daping came to pick me up again around 3 PM, I took my quilt with me. Wei told me that I should just leave the quilt behind since I would immediately be sent back in the detention center anyway. I told him that I didn't want to go back to the detention center that day. He was happy to hear that and asked, "So you've finally figured things out? You're not going to practice Falun Gong any more?" I replied, "I've been kept here for more than three months. I've been locked up in the same cell with criminals who steal, cheat, pick pockets or prostitute themselves, and their rude and dirty languages made my head hurt. I need to go home and think things over where there is some peace and quiet. After that, we'll see." He thought that I had finally changed my tone so he let me take my quilt with me back to the police station. Then he called my younger brother and told him to bring 3,000 yuan as a security deposit to take me home. My brother came quickly and he only had 2,000 yuan with him. Wei Daping said, "I told you to bring 3,000 Yuan! It can't be even a penny short! This money is a deposit to insure that your sister won't go to Beijing anymore. If she goes again, we will use this money for the expense of bringing her back." My brother had no choice but to go home and borrow 1,000 yuan. I was finally allowed to go home with my brother around 9 PM that night. Before we left, Wei told me that I had to report to the station every day at 9 AM. In order to be able to go back to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, I signed a note promising I would report to the police center every morning. Later on, I realized that I shouldn't have done that. I wrote another note nullifying my previous note and handed it to Wei Daping in person.

On the way home from the police station, my brother said, "Sister, I've tried everything but couldn't get you released from the detention center. Now you're finally out. Let me hold a celebratory dinner party for you. I'll take our entire family out to have a hot pot banquet." It was already around midnight by the time we finished dinner and returned home. My brother slept on my sofa and wouldn't leave. He was afraid that I would go back to Beijing. He was afraid I would be detained by the police again and might not be able to get out. I told him, "Go home, brother! Your wife is waiting for you at home. She will worry if you don't go home tonight." With a great deal of uneasiness, he finally left around 2 AM.

On October 6, Harbin City practitioner Mr. Li Guoyou went to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp to visit someone in custody. Mr. Li was unlawfully detained and transferred to the local police station. He is being held at the Daoli Branch Police Department.

2. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Wuxue City "610 Office" Staff and Police Pry Open Steel-Reinforced Door and Arrest Practitioners

After 9:00 p.m. on October 4, police and officials from the Wuxue City "610 Office" tried to get into Falun Dafa practitioner Wu Yonghong's home. Wu Yonghong refused to open the door. The police pried open the steel-reinforced door. The police said that they were looking for Wu Yonghong because someone in a series of pictures exposing inhumane tortures published on the Minghui website (the Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net) looked very much like Wu. Another practitioner, Liu Yanfeng, who was in the home at the time, was also arrested.

Earlier, the Wuxue City police and staff from the "610 Office" had already arrested practitioner Liao Yuanhua. Liao Yuanhua's brother-in-law and two nephews were also arrested two days later.

3. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Fifteen Falun Dafa Practitioners Taken to Liyuzhuang Brainwashing Center in Dingxing, Hebei Province

Fifteen Falun Dafa practitioners were sent to the Liyuzhuang Brainwashing Center prior to the October 1^st National Day celebration. The Dingxing County Police Department and "610 Office" are responsible for this action, and one practitioner's life is in imminent danger as a result of brutal treatment received at the police department.

Around September 20, 2004, police officers arrested Harbin City practitioner Ms. Dong Enjie, who is in her fifties, at Minmao Market in the Nangang District. No information about her situation is available. Several days prior to this arrest, the police had ransacked her home without finding anything, and her husband had her released on bail after she spent nine hours at the police station.

Ms. Li Shuqing, 69, is a Falun Dafa practitioner in Shixian Town, Tumen City, Jilin Province. Between 3:00 and. 4:00 p.m., on September 23, 2004, officers who had long been waiting at her home arrested her after she returned from posting truth-clarifying leaflets. Ms. Li's current whereabouts are unknown.

6. [Beijing] Falun Dafa Practitioner Ms. Cao Shuxian Unlawfully Held in Custody

Around 9:00 a.m. on October 3, Ms. Cao Shuxian and another practitioner went to Sujiatuo Town and Xugezhuang Village to distribute Falun Dafa truth clarification materials. They were spotted by a security patrol, who called the police. Over a dozen officers from Beianhe Police Station arrived in two police vehicles and arrested the two practitioners.

Around 3:00 a.m. on October 4, officers took Ms. Cao back to her home in Dagong Village, Sujiatuo Town, Haidian District, and over a dozen officers arriving in two vehicles ransacked it. The officers had no search warrant. Her Falun Dafa books and materials were confiscated. Since Ms. Cao lives alone, her family has not yet learned of her arrest.

7. [Xiong County, Hebei Province] Ms. Li Junhua and Other Practitioners Unlawfully Arrested and Sentenced to Prison

At 11:30 p.m. on September 27, police arrested Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Li Junhua and a practitioner surnamed Yan in their homes. In addition, nine practitioners from Longwan in Xiong County, Hebei Province, who had been to Beijing to validate Falun Dafa, were taken back to Longwan. Except for two of the practitioners who managed to escape, seven others were unlawfully sentenced to three years in prison.

8. [Linyi City, Shandong Province] Two Yishui County Falun Dafa Practitioners Unlawfully Fined, Their Homes Ransacked

On the evening of September 30, 2004, several officials from the Huangshanpu Town Government in Yishui County, Linyi City, Shandong Province, went to Buxi Village. They took practitioners Li Changqing and Liu Changtian's wife to the village office. Liu Changtian himself is not a Falun Gong practitioner. The two practitioners were beaten for an extended period of time and their homes were ransacked. The two families were coerced into paying exorbitant "fines" of 2,000 and 5,000 yuan each, without receiving receipts.

9. [Yuxi City, Yunnan Province] Hongta District Court Unlawfully Tries Falun Dafa Practitioner Fei Xuelong

On May 14, 2004, police unlawfully arrested Yuxi City practitioner Fei Xuelong, while he was raising awareness about Falun Gong among teachers and students. Police also ransacked Mr. Fei's home. Fei Xuelong was unlawfully held at the Hongta District Detention Center for over four months and was unlawfully put on trial in the Hongta District Court on September 29, 2004.

During the trial, Mr. Fei organized his own defense, arguing that citizens have the right to freedom of speech. The court failed to reach a decision. A previous trial against Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Li Xiulan on September 9, 2004, also ended up a failure.

10. [Xichang, Sichuan Province] Police Arrest Several Falun Dafa Practitioners at Xichang 410 Factory

On September 29, 2004, practitioners Wang Xiaofang, Zhang Yutao, Zhao Zhiping, Peng Xiuying, Zheng Kaiying and He Yufang, all from the Xichang 410 Factory in Sichuan Province, went to Lizhou Town to raise public awareness about Falun Gong. Officers from the Lizhou Police Station arrested them. With the cooperation of Yang Wei, an official from the Xichang 410 Factory, personnel from the Xichang City State Security Unit unlawfully ransacked the practitioners' homes on September 30. Six practitioners are now in custody.

11. [Dingxi, Gansu Province] Falun Dafa Practitioners in Dingxi Prison Stage a Hunger Strike

Practitioners in Dingxi Prison in Gansu Province have been on a hunger strike since September 2, 2004. Practitioner Xu Feng, along with others whose names are currently unknown, has been taken to Kangtai Hospital in Lanzhou City. Details on their physical condition are not yet available.

12. [Dehui City, Jilin Province] Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Wang Yongbiao Arrested

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Yongbiao lived near a steel rolling factory on Badao Street on the east side of Dehui City. Officers from the Guangming Police Station in charge of the residential section often show up at practitioners' homes to harass them. During the past two years, Mr. Wang has been forced to stay away from his hometown in order to avoid the persecution, and has become destitute. Several days ago, police officers deceived him into going to the Guangming Police Station and arrested him. Wang Yongbiao has been taken to the Dehui City Detention Center. His wife, who has been sick for years, has been left at home by herself with no one to take care of her.

13. [Gaomi City, Shandong Province] Falun Dafa Practitioners Persecuted in Gaomi City

Practitioners Dang Lianhong, Ling Jiazhi and Wang Xuejing, all from Gaomi City in Shandong Province, remain in custody at Changle Forced Labor Camp in Weifang City, Shandong Province. Gaomi City practitioner Wang Chuanzhen continues to be tormented at Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in Zibo City, Shandong Province. Gaomi City practitioner Zhang Shihui remains imprisoned at Qingdao Forced Labor Camp in Shandong Province.

14. [Anqiu City, Shandong Province] Yuan Suzhi from Yuanjiazhuang in Linwu Town Arrested and Fined

Around June 20, 2004, officers from the Linwu Town Police Station and Anqiu Police Department abducted practitioner Yuan Suzhi from Yuanjiazhuang in Linwu Town, Anqiu City, Shandong Province. The officers also ransacked Yuan's home, confiscated Falun Dafa books as well as printed matter explaining the truth about Falun Gong. Yuan Suzhi is being held at the Anqiu Detention Center.

15. [Shangqiu City, Henan Province] Falun Dafa Practitioner Li Jingyun Arrested Prior to October 1^st National Day

On the morning of September 30, practitioner Li Jingyun, who is quite elderly, was arrested by undercover police officers while he was raising public awareness about Falun Gong. Mr. Li was sent to the Shangqiu City Detention Center.

I started practicing Falun Gong in March of 1999. At different times over the past five years, I was detained, had to live under surveillance and had to perform forced labor for a year and a half, all because I went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong.

At the beginning of 2001, policemen took several fellow practitioners from the forced labor camp I was in, to the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp for further persecution and brainwashed them. The police learned their most harmful torture and brainwashing methods at the Tuanhe Force Labor Camp and brought these cruel methods back our camp to torture Dafa practitioners. Devoid of any human nature, they tortured steadfast Falun Dafa practitioners. I was summoned to "a triangle area" [a place designated to persecute Falun Gong practitioner] one morning in June 2001, and collaborators (1) mentally and physically tortured me there for several days until I was brainwashed.

One evening they took me alone to one of the forced labor sites and deprived me of sleep, not allowing me to close my eyes for the entire time. The next day, they forced me to remain standing in the middle of the room while two men monitored me. They allowed me to eat lunch, but did not permit me to go to restroom, and I finally could not help soiling my trousers. When I became tired from standing, they did not allow me bend my knees, sit or lie down. Because of the torture, I could not sleep or eat.

After two and half days, my legs and feet were swollen, and the soles of my feet were too painful to bear, so I squatted down. The policemen then began to torture me with other methods. They hit my ears at seven and eight o'clock in the evening, and they used horsewhips, sandals and sticks to beat me throughout the night. My feet were so swollen that they looked like loaves of bread, and my legs were so swollen that they resembled elephant legs. I could not walk by myself, yet they still made me stand. Because of a lack of righteous thoughts and my fear, I then did something that a Falun Dafa practitioner should not do. I hereby declare that everything I said and wrote that does not meet the standards for a Falun Dafa practitioner is null and void. I will strive to follow the correct path, redouble my efforts and compensate for the damage I have caused Falun Dafa.

I was caught by policemen due to my carelessness and my human heart, which caused irreversible damage to Falun Dafa and fellow practitioners. I believed I was cultivating while I was doing Dafa work, but I did not realize that I was not truly cultivating. My ordinary people's thoughts appeared while the policemen kept me from sleeping, and I was brainwashed. I did things that a Falun Dafa practitioner should not do, forgot Teacher's words and believed a hypocritical lie from policemen. I wrote a so-called "Guarantee Statement."

Then, while in the detection center, I felt frustrated and unworthy to be a Falun Dafa practitioner, and I thought Teacher would abandon me. I even thought that I was an old force arrangement to help destroy Falun Dafa, and my heart was too painful to describe. I lived with anguish and self-condemnation each day. After I calmed down and thought deeply, I understood that the cultivation path I had previously chosen is right. Teacher's words appeared in my head,

Teacher's words reminded me that I am a disciple of Teacher and the period of Fa-rectification still continues. I must crawl up, start afresh and participate well. I started a hunger strike and took back my "Guarantee Statement" to rip it up. I am now again making a solemn statement. All the things I said and wrote which are not in accordance with Falun Dafa are null and void. I thoroughly deny the arrangement of the old forces, and I will steadfastly keep up my righteous thoughts and righteous actions. I will never disappoint Teacher's kind mercy, and I will let go of ordinary people's attachments. I will go home with Teacher.

Facts of the Persecution

In April 2004, Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Wang Shusen broadcast a truth clarification video by tapping into the national cable TV system. In retaliation, authorities arrested almost eight hundred Falun Dafa practitioners in the Hegang region of Heilongjiang Province, including a seventy-eight-year-old practitioner.

On April 8, 2004, policeman Jin instructed prisoners to cruelly beat Falun Dafa practitioners. As a result, Mr. Yan Jinlai suffered from chest pain and a chronic cough for six months.

My name is Xie Huizhou. I am a Falun Dafa practitioner from Zengtong Village, Tuchengzi Township, Changyi District, Jilin Province. On September 30, 2004, two village heads and three others ransacked my home and found three truth clarification VCDs. I explained to them the facts about Falun Dafa. Village Head Hou asked some questions and wanted me to sign my name on a document. I absolutely refused. I told them sternly that everything they did that day violated the law. They left.

In May 2002, Falun Dafa practitioners detained in the Second Detention Center were doing group Dafa study and sending forth righteous thoughts when Center Director Li Shulin put handcuffs and ankle shackles on the practitioners, then locked their handcuffs to the shackles. Thereafter, he forced practitioners sit on the wet cement floor and had the common prisoners pour cold water over their heads. He also deprived practitioners of sleep for thirteen consecutive days. Other practitioners who were not being tortured went on a hunger strike to protest the torture of their fellow practitioners. Because of their action, they were beaten with rubber hoses.

On April 30, 2002, several male practitioners were forced to go through military drills. During the drills, Mr. Zhao Xilai had diarrhea, and had difficulty walking. However, the lead instructor, Kang Linghui, forced him to participate in the training anyway. Zhao Xilai protested, and was brutally beaten.

At the beginning of December 2002, police forced twenty-three Falun Dafa practitioners into "training." They were required to sit on small stools or freeze outside, and were beaten twice a day. This lasted for four to five days. During this training session, practitioner Mr. Hu Yanjun's hands were handcuffed to a railing, he was hung up with his legs tied up, then beaten by policeman Wang Fugui and other prisoners, resulting in leg injuries. Because Mr. Sun Fengli is steadfast in practicing Falun Dafa, Director Li instructed the Third Ward police to force him to sit on a small stool with his legs open, bend his body backwards at an angle of 130 degrees, and hold that position without movement for twelve hours a day. As a result, his legs were injured and he has difficulty walking. Another practitioner, Mr. Li Yuzhang, commented that it was too crowded to sleep, for which he was beaten until his finger was injured to the point that he cannot use it.

My entire family practices Falun Dafa. My father, Zhang Ziwen, mother, Liu Yuhong, and younger brother, Zhang Ximing, were forced to leave home and move from place to place to avoid being illegally arrested at home after July 20, 1999, when the persecution began. They were arrested in October 2002 by the "610 Office." For a long time I (daughter in the family) did not know where they were. Finally, I found out that my father was detained in the Second Ward, Fifth Region, of the Jianxin Labor Camp, Hexi District, Tianjin City. Even though his blood pressure is 200, police still refuse to release my father. They keep him on duty during the night time, and deprive me of my right to visit him. My mother is detained in the Second Ward of the Banqiao Women's Labor Camp, Dagang District, Tianjin City. My brother is detained in the Second Ward, Sixth Region of the Qingbo Labor Camp, Xiqing District, Tianjin City. The practitioners were forced to process unclean food for distribution, while they also went through brainwashing.
