practitioners are routinely arrested and brutally tortured by the authorities in
an effort to force them to renounce their belief. In order to raise awareness of
the persecution, practitioners outside of China stage peaceful protests, often
in conjunction with live torture reenactments, to demonstrate the extent and
brutality of the persecution. (Ed.)
