(Clearwisdom.net) According to a report from World Journal (A Chinese Newspaper) on October 30, a resolution co-sponsored by San Francisco Bay Area U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. The resolution demands that the Chinese government stop suppressing Falun Gong practitioners' activities. The resolution has been submitted to the U.S. Senate for discussion.

San Francisco City Council member Mr. Daly who previously proposed a similar resolution but was rejected by the City Council, expressed on October 29 that he would once again sponsor such a resolution in the City Council.

After the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution in support of Falun Gong, San Francisco City Council member Mr. Daly expressed at a press conference in front of the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco that he would once again propose a similar resolution in the City Council.

This House resolution, H.R. 304, was sponsored by Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) and Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL).

The resolution demands that Chinese government officials in the United States stop hindering Falun Gong practitioners' peaceful protests and rallies and to stop pressuring American elected officials who support Falun Gong.

In addition the resolution requested the Attorney General to investigate reports that Chinese consular officials in the U.S. have committed illegal acts while attempting to intimidate or inappropriately influence Falun Gong practitioners or local elected officials. The resolution also requested the U.S. President to issue an official public demarche, a formal protest, to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

On October 29, practitioners held a press conference in front of the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco in support of the House Resolution passed by the Congress. Congresswoman Woolsey and San Mateo Congressman Tom Lantos who supported the resolution all sent representatives to attend the press conference and openly expressed their support for Falun Gong practitioners' right of peaceful rally.

In October 2001, San Francisco City Council member Daly proposed a resolution in the City Council to support Falun Gong practitioners' right to hold peaceful rally, but his resolution was rejected at a rate of 8 to 3 in the City Council.

Daly pointed out that after he proposed the resolution three years ago, all City Council members received a letter from the Chinese Consul General in San Francisco claiming that Falun Gong was an 'evil cult' that was undermining the 'normal social order' in the People's Republic of China, and that Mr. Daly's resolution should therefore be rejected.

Daly said at the press conference that he applauded the U.S. House of Representative's action. Although the resolution he authored was rejected three years ago, he would once again propose a similar resolution in the City Council to support the rights of Falun Gong practitioners.
