Police Extract Confessions with Piercing Bar Torture Method (Illustration)

(Clearwisdom.net) According to a report on the Minghui website (the Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net) on October 27, police officers from the National Security Brigade, Wancheng District Bureau of Public Security, Nanyang City, Henan Province set up a place to extract confessions by torture in the Agriculture Rest House, located on the street behind the Nanyang Municipal Silk Mill. The police employed a number of methods to torture practitioners. One of the torture methods was called "piercing bar" (see illustration below)

The report said that in March 2004, police officers (including Zhao Zengyu, Du Siwei, and Duan Xiancheng from the National Security Brigade of Wancheng District Bureau of Public Security) interrogated and tortured five practitioners. The five were Zhang Baozhi, Li Yansheng, Wang Yibin, Kuai Qiying and Chen Jinlan. The authorities used "piercing bar," beating, sleep deprivation, and brainwashing tactics. Li Yansheng's health is now in very bad condition.

It is reported that the "piercing bar" causes extreme pain. Their hands are tightly cuffed which deeply cut into their wrists. In less than one minute, victims would feel so much pain that they would sweat profusely soaking their clothes. The torture makes victims' visceral organs shift positions, which results in tremendous pain and can cause vomiting. Some even vomited blood.

During the torture, if victims faint, the police would then pour cold water on them to wake them up and continuously apply the torture. The torture often lasts at least one day and sometimes even 6 to 7 days in a row. One could imagine how many times victims would pass out. Victims are not allowed to eat or sleep. Usually, 10 minutes of such torture is the limit that an exceptionally strong man could endure. The torture usually disables the victim's arms and legs.

The following graphic photo depicts the torture of "piercing bar":

Piercing bar: Victim's hands are tightly cuffed and feet are shackled. He is then forced to squat down and both arms embrace his knees. An iron bar is slid in above his arms and underneath the back of his knees. The police then lift the bar on which the victim is hung and put it on two desks. At this point, the victim is hanging upside down, with head facing the ceiling.
