New York: Brockport Student Government Passes Resolution in Support of Falun Gong
(Clearwisdom.net) On November 5, 2004, the Brockport
Student Government from the State University of New York passed a resolution in
support of Falun Gong. The resolution expresses the sense of the Brockport
Student Government that the Government of the People's Republic of China should
cease its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. The resolution pointed out
that the persecution has extended to the education system and urged the Chinese
government "to stop using the public education system to incite hatred and
perpetuate unlawful and inhumane policies of genocide in the population."
The resolution also expressed that "Brockport Student Government should
investigate allegations of illegal activities by academic institutions,
including universities, in the People's Republic of China that Brockport Student
Government has relationships with, including (but not limited to) institutions
that have study abroad programs, student and faculty exchanges, and sister
school designees." Brockport Student Government Date: 11-05-04 Resolution Expressing the sense of the Brockport Student Government that
the Government of the People's Republic of China should cease its persecution of
Falun Gong practitioners. Whereas, Falun Gong is a peaceful and non-violent form of
practice and personal belief based on the principles of truthfulness,
compassion, and tolerance with millions of adherents in the People's Republic of
China and elsewhere, and, Whereas, Falun Gong is freely practiced in the United
States and individual adherents make positive contribution to the communities in
which they live, and, Whereas, Brockport Student Government does not
discriminate against any individual on the basis of personal belief and its
mission statement "has the success of its students as the highest priority,
encompassing civic engagement in a culturally diverse society and in globally
interdependent communities," so consequently individuals who choose to
practice Falun Gong are respected members of Brockport Student Government, and, Whereas, The Government of the People's Republic of China
has forbidden Falun Gong practitioners to practice their beliefs and has
systematically attempted to eradicate the practice and those who follow it, and, Whereas, this policy violates the Constitution of the
People's Republic of China as well as the International Covenant on Civil and
Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and, Whereas, Jiang Zemin's regime has created notorious
government "610" offices throughout the People's Republic of China
with the special task of overseeing the genocide of Falun Gong practitioners
through organized brainwashing, torture, and murder, and, Whereas, the number of known deaths from torture has
reached over 1000 so far, hundreds of thousands more have been tortured while
confined in labor camps, prisons, and mental hospitals, and, Whereas, official measures have been taken to conceal all
atrocities, such as the immediate cremation of victims, the blocking of
autopsies, and the false labeling of deaths as from suicide or natural causes
when those victims were actually murdered while in official custody, and, Whereas, women in particular have been the target of
numerous forms of sexual violence including rape, sexual assault, and forced
abortion, and, Whereas, the campaign of genocide has been generated by
the Government of the People's Republic of China, is carried out by government
officials and police at all levels, and has permeated every segment of society
and every level of government in the People's Republic of China, including the
education system, and, Whereas, propaganda from state controlled media in the
People's Republic of China has inundated the public in an attempt to breed
hatred and discrimination, and, Whereas, this propaganda, based on lies and deceit, had
been taught at the primary, secondary, and university levels of education and
students have been forced to either publicly agree with the propaganda or
otherwise face expulsion from school, denial of their rightfully earned academic
degrees, and/or denial of entrance into academic institutions, and, Whereas, several United States citizens and permanent
resident aliens have been subjected to arbitrary detention, imprisoned, and
tortured in the People's Republic of China, now, therefore be, Resolved, by the Brockport Student Government, that it is
the sense of the Student Government, that Resolved, that the Board of Directors has approved this
resolution by a vote of 10-0-1. |
