Three Jiaozhou practitioners, Gao Fen, Song Yuling, and Wang Yubao, were arrested at a marketplace at the beginning of November because they were explaining the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong. They are being detained at the Zhangjiatun Brainwashing Center. On November 13, Falun Dafa practitioner Han Daxiu went there and demanded their release, but Han was arrested by a group of police officers led by Song Shoujian, the deputy chief of the local police department's investigation section. Han was also sent to the Zhangjiatun Brainwashing Center. When Han's daughter, Han Yu, went to the brainwashing center and asked for his release, she too was detained. When another practitioner named Wang Lei realized that Han Yu had disappeared, Wang went to the brainwashing center to find her. Wang has not been seen since.

The Jiaozhou City 610 Office had previously been dissolved and replaced by the Investigation Section of the police department. Deputy Chief Song Shoujian has arrested many Falun Dafa practitioners. In March 2004, he led a group of officers to arrest practitioner Ms. Zhu Meijuan. She died of a fall from the sixth floor of a building during her arrest. Song and his thugs are committing all sorts of crimes at the brainwashing center.

1. Solitary confinement - The police put each practitioner who refuses to renounce Falun Dafa into solitary confinement. No outside contact is allowed. Inmates are assigned to watch these practitioners 24 hours a day. The practitioners are also subjected to brainwashing.
2. Brainwashing - The jail guards and former practitioners who have given up the practice under pressure force practitioners to watch videotapes and read books that defame Falun Dafa. The practitioners are subjected to long-term sleep deprivation.
3. Intensive brainwashing sessions - About two-thirds of the Falun Gong practitioners at the center are being confined in a special section for intensive brainwashing. Those subjected to these sessions have no contact with anyone outside this part of the center, and the brainwashing methods used are extremely cruel.
4. Physical torture - A common torture used on practitioners is called the "stretching bed." A person's four limbs are tied to four corners of a bed frame. The supporting boards under the person's body are then removed, leaving only an iron pipe about a half-inch in diameter underneath the waist area to support the body. The rest of the body dangles in the air. Practitioners are tortured like this 24 hours a day.
