The Brutal Persecution of Practitioners in the Eighth Unit of the Dabei Women's Prison, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province

Prison guards at the eighth unit of the Dabei Women's Prison, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province brutally persecute Falun Dafa practitioners. Practitioners are forced to do heavy labor during the day and then tortured at night. The guards strike practitioners in the face, pull their hair, kick them, and pummel them with fists. Some practitioners were forced to sit on benches for as long as three months, resulting in severe sores and injured buttocks. Ms. Ma Shuyan was tortured until she had a mental collapse.

Since March 2004, the persecution has become even more severe. The prison administration issued an order: "if the practitioners are not 'transformed'[1], the unit captain will be fined." The edict cascaded down through all levels of the camp. The captain issued the same order to the criminal inmates on the teams that had been formed to persecute practitioners: if the practitioners were not "transformed," the criminals would be punished. They would not be able to have their sentences reduced, see visitors or have adequate meals. The captain also gave permission to the criminals to use any torture method on Falun Dafa practitioners. The inmates on the teams became ruthless.

In March, the weather was still very cold. After the practitioners finished their day shifts, they had to continue working in their cells during the evenings. They were also forced to take off their clothes and squat down on cold floors in their bare feet.

The guards often beat practitioners. They deprived practitioners of sleep or going to the toilet. Sometimes they only allowed practitioners to sleep one hour in the evening. After such tortures for several consecutive days, the police handcuffed practitioners' behind their backs, dragged them and then poured cold water over them. Next, they dragged one practitioner back to her cell, and stripped her clothes off and stuffed her naked beneath a bed. The guards also ordered the inmates to watch the practitioner and not allow her to sleep.

Practitioner Ms. Zhang Li'na endured many kinds of torture. From beatings, she had bruises on her nose and a swollen face. They stripped her clothes, and she was forced to stand with her hands shackled behind her back. Her neck was tied tightly to a bed and her feet were put in to a basin of chilly water. They guards and criminals wrote curses about Teacher on her body. Ms. Liu Junlu was also stripped, dowsed with cold water, handcuffed behind her back, severely beaten and deprived of sleep. She was tortured this way for four consecutive days and nights. After being handcuffed behind her back for several days, her left arm became painfully injured and could no longer move normally. If a practitioner was not "transformed," she could not receive any visitors and would only get one small bun for each meal.

Practitioner Ms. Lu Jianhua was over fifty years old. The guards and criminals wrote curses on her body and forced her to stay in a fixed position for a whole night.

Practitioner Ms. Zhao Lijun shouted "Falun Dafa is good" at the beginning and the end of the work shift. For revenge, the police often sealed her mouth with tape and tied her hands and feet. They beat her until her face was disfigured. She was jammed beneath a bed every night. One day, they poured cold water over her, stripped off her clothes and forced her to kneel down on a washboard, placing her hands in chilly water and poured cold water on her back. They then opened the window to let the cold wind blow on her. But she still shouted "Falun Dafa is good." Often, the vicious people did not let her use a toilet, and she had to urinate with her clothes on. Her neck is still unable to bend back because she was tied for such a long time.

The practitioners detained in unit #8 included Ms. Xu Baozhen, Ms. Gao Yanxia, Ms. Cui Xuejun, Ms. Cheng Ling, Ms. Gao Manli, Ms. Yu Xiaoqing, Ms. Jing Shunnu, Ms. Liu Kun, Ms. Song Caihong, Ms. Zhang Huaping, Ms. Liu Junlu, Ms. Wang Hong, Ms. Wang Shu'er, Ms. Lu Jianhua, Ms. Du Xiuyun, Ms. Wang Shiyuan, Ms. Lin Jingping, Ms. Sui Guiqin, Ms. Gao Guirong, Ms. Zhao Lijun, Ms. Zhang Li'na, Ms. Qi Xiangru, Ms. Li Xia, Ms. Fan Caihong, and Ms. Li Hongshu.
