(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Pan Jianjun (33 years old) from Fangzhiya Village, Madiyi Township, Yuanling County, Hunan Province died on January 23, 2004. (http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/5/5/47730.html) It has been recently discovered that he was tortured to death at the No.7 Section of Wangling Agricultural Prison, which is located in You County and belongs to Jinshi Prison, Changde City (Address: Donglin Pu, Wangling Town, Changde, Hunan Province, zip code: 412307) Pan's mother passed away due to the overwhelming grief caused by her son's suffering. Shocked by his son's death, his father had a stroke and was paralyzed.

According to World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG), which started to investigate Pan's death case in May of this year, Pan Jianjun worked in Shenzheng City and started to practice Falun Gong there. During his work at a company in Shenzheng, he was highly appreciated and trusted in the company.

Pan Jianjun went to Beijing in 2000 and appealed for Falun Gong to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. Since then, he was detained and monitored by local police. As he insisted on practicing Falun Gong, he had been regarded as "a key figure" by the Yuanling County 610 Office and was closely monitored.

At the end of 2001, police from the local police station and Yuanlin County National Security Division arrested Pan Jianyun while he was passing out truth-clarifying materials at his friend's house. He was sentenced to three years of forced labor and was sent to Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp in Changsha City.

He was transferred to the No.2 Detention Center of Huaihua City. Later, 'Hecheng District Court sentenced him to seven years in jail for the so-called crime of "disrupting the law implementation." Pan Jianjun had tried to appeal to a higher court but was rejected by the municipal middle court. In August 2003, he was seen at No.2 Detention Center of Huaihua City. He was emaciated, unable to straighten his back and his body was covered with wounds. In October of that year, Pan Jianjun went on a hunger strike for about 20 days. Later, he was sent to No.6 Sub-division ("Strictly Monitored Sub-division"), Jinshi Prison in Changde City, Huan Province. At one point, he passed out, but woke up when the prison police were about to send him to be cremated. At the end of 2003, he was transferred to Wangling Prison in You County. On February 5, 2004, Wangling Prison informed his family of his death. No one from his family was allowed to see his body.

Pan Jianjun's mother was deeply grieved by the persecution her son suffered and thus fell seriously ill. She passed away in July of 2003. His father cried for his son's death for three days after hearing the news. 'Then he suffered a stroke and was paralyzed. Since Pan Jianjun was detained, his family lost their source of income. His two younger brothers work at the farm. His older sister has to stay at home to take care of their father. The family has borrowed thousands of yuan for the parents' medical bills. The whole family has suffered as a result of the persecution.
