Chen Guanghui Near Death after Severe Brain Injury from Torture in Suzhou Prison

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Chen Guanghui, 38, graduated from Nanjing University. He was a section manager for the Lianyungang Branch of the Chinese Construction Bank with a concurrent post as deputy head of the Computer Section. Mr. Chen was illegally detained on September 10, 2001. On September 12, 2002, he was sentenced by the People's Court of Baixia District in Nanjing City to eight years' imprisonment and sent to Suzhou Prison.

On July 29, 2004, Mr. Chen Ganghui sustained an injury to his brain from torture and was sent to the Cranial Neurological Section of the First Hospital, which is affiliated with Suzhou University. Since then he has been in a coma and near death, but his family was not notified until August 4. When Mr. Chen's family went to visit him, the Suzhou prison guards watched them closely the whole time.

Mr. Chen Guanghui has had a tracheotomy and is on a ventilator. According to the doctor, without this life support system, Mr. Chen will die.

When the guards sent Mr. Chen Guanghui to the hospital, his limbs were stiff and his pupils were dilated. The guards claimed he attempted suicide and hit the right side of his head against the wall. The doctor who operated found the right side of the brain to be beyond repair, and the left side even more severely injured. The hospital staff did not believe the injuries could have been self-inflicted.

Mr. Chen's wife advised their son to study hard, but he cried and said, "What's the use of going to school? Why bother going to college? Dad also graduated from college. But now I have no Dad." She could only hug her son and weep.

The corrupt officials succeeded in coercing Mr. Chen's family not to appeal or seek to rectify the injustice. They even coerced them into signing a "Letter of Guarantee" not to practice Falun Gong on Mr. Chen's behalf.
