Practitioner You Zhilan in Xingtai City Dies of Police Abuse

(Clearwisdom Net) On January 2, 2003, Zhang Yinchao and his men from Xingtai County Police Department arrested Falun Dafa practitioner You Zhilan, a 51-year-old woman from Xingtai City. The police also extorted money from her family. In late August of 2003, Zhang and some policemen harassed Ms. You Zhilan again. They parked a police van outside her door, doing surveillance. You, who had not recovered yet, was traumatized again and died on November 14, 2003.

Practitioner You Zhilan lived in Xingdong Market in Xingtai County. She used to have poor health, but soon improved after practicing Falun Gong in 1998. On January 2, 2003, she was reported to the police and arrested by Xingdong Police Department in Xingtai County. They also confiscated her cassette, cassette player, and Falun Dafa books. Policeman Zhang Yinchao and another policeman, whose last name is Chen, took her away and detained her in the county's detention center for over 20 days. During that time, her ex-husband and her son were also detained for several days by Xingtai County Police Station.

Officer Chen took the cellular phone that You's son had just purchased as well as 100 yuan. You's family worried about her health in the detention center, so they sent gifts to their relations to get her out. They spent over a thousand yuan just for the dinner to treat Zhang Yinchao and his family. (Zhang is the one in Xingtai Police Department in charge of the Falun Gong issue.) Zhang also took from them two or three thousand yuan in cash. When You was released, she was again fined 3,000 yuan. Altogether, You and her family were extorted over 10,000 yuan. [The average monthly income of an urban worker is 500 yuan.]

The 20 days of detention and persecution made You Zhilan extremely weak. She couldn't walk by herself when released.

In late August of 2003, some one reported her again. Zhang Yinchao broke into her home with some policemen. Without showing any ID, they confiscated two cassettes, the book Zhuan Falun, a cassette player, and two booklets of the latest articles written by Mr. Li Hongzhi. Only You's daughter-in-law was home then. During those days, when dusk fell, there would be a police van parking outside You's home doing surveillance. Not fully recovered, You was traumatized again and died on November 14, 2003.
