(Clearwisdom.net) On January 16, 2004, Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Guirong (female, 51 years old) went to the Acheng City "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] in Heilongjiang Province to claim her bail. She was told to bring her receipt to the Political and Security Section of the City Public Security Bureau, in order to register to recover her bail. However when she arrived at the Political and Security Section, the policemen pushed her inside, and Liu Zhangzhong of the Political and Security Section personally filled out the paperwork and then lied to Ms. Zhang, saying they would take her home. Instead, however, several policemen pushed and dragged her into a police car and took her to the First Detention Center in Acheng City.

In the detention center the deputy director, Luo Huanrong, slapped and beat Zhang Guirong so violently that her face became swollen, her eyes bulged and the inside of her mouth was badly cut from the beating; she was dizzy, nauseated and had a mouthful of blood. Luo Huanrong, still not satisfied, knocked her to the floor and took off her shoes, and stomped on her feet, causing the flesh to tear and bleed.

While in detention, Ms. Zhang could not swallow any food because her mouth was injured from the beating. The detention center force-fed her, causing Ms. Zhang's physical condition to become critical. On January 24, 2004, she was sent to the city hospital for emergency rescue. In the hospital, two policemen from the detention center and four criminal prisoners took turns guarding her. They handcuffed both her hands and feet to the corner posts of her bed while she was having intravenous injections. On January 27, Luo Huanrong and the other four people came to the hospital to threaten her, saying, "We will beat you if you do not eat; we will keep you here until you die." Ms. Zhang answered them, "I cherish my life, and I will bring you to court if I leave this place alive."

Zhang Guirong lost her parents when she was very small, and she was brought up by her aunt who is very old now. Her aunt suffers from a blot clot in her brain, but she does not have the money to see a doctor. Ms. Zhang also needed money to help her daughter-in-law, who was pregnant and very close to term. That was why she went to the Public Security Bureau to sign up to claim her bail, in order to solve her family's immediate problems. Instead, however, she was unexpectedly kidnapped by officer Liu Zhangzhong and taken to the Number One Detention Center in the northern part of the city. It was beyond her imagination that she would be beaten and abused so severely by the police, that she would be sent to the hospital for emergency treatment after being detained eight days. In just eight days, a healthy person was persecuted nearly to death. Zhang Guirong is sometimes semi-conscious, and sometimes lucid. She also suffers from chest pains and cannot breathe properly. The doctor said that if this situation continues, her life would be in danger.
