Falun Gong Practitioner Du Shuyun Illegally Sentenced to Ten Years Imprisonment in Yangtian Town
(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Du Shuyun, 45 years old, is a resident of Yangtian Town, Chicheng County,
Hebei Province. She has practiced Falun Dafa since 1997. After she started
practicing, her entire family noticed the benefits to both mind and body.
Because she did continued to practice and clarify the truth about Falun Dafa,
she was illegally sentenced to ten years imprisonment in October 2002. Her
family and relatives were also detained and authorities extorted a lot of money
from them. On July 25, 1999, Du Shuyun went Beijing to appeal for an end to the
persecution of Falun Dafa. She was taken back home by the Secretary of Town
Government Gao Jinlong. Afterwards, she was sent to the Chicheng County
Detention Center and illegally detained for 15 days for "disturbing public
order." After she was released, the town government fined her five hundred
yuan [500 yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China].
Later, whenever it was a "sensitive day," she was forced to write the
"Guarantee Statement" by the town government [a statement to
declare that the writer is remorseful for practicing Falun Gong and guarantees
not to practice Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong,
and never again associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners]. Also, she was
monitored. On the night of October 18, 2002, the director of the town police station, Du
Zhigang, Deputy Secretary Tang Zhankuan and more than ten other persons from the
county police department, village and town governments went to Ms. Du's home.
Using the excuse that she was printing the truth materials about Dafa, they
searched and confiscated the truth materials. They had intended to arrest her,
however, because Ms. Du had stayed at her neighbor Wang Yumei's home that night,
the lawless authorities did not catch her. They did, however, confiscate her
Dafa books. Before dawn on October 25, 2002, due to someone's report, all town government
personnel except two persons set out to arrest Du Shuyun. They, plus two persons
from the county criminal police team, rode in three vehicles and went to Shanhe
Village where Du Shuyun's in-laws live. They forcibly took her away to the
county detention center. The city police department attended her interrogation.
Authorities confiscated a computer and a copy machine from her home valued at
more than 10,000 yuan. Ms. Du's case was considered to be nationally significant
case, named after "Beijing Case No. 2." Ms. Du was sentenced to ten
years imprisonment and now is detained in the county detention center. Since Du Shuyun's arrest, her family also has been seriously persecuted as
follows: 1. When Ms. Du was arrested in Shanhe Village, the home of her in-laws was
thoroughly searched. One of her in-laws was taken away and detained in the
county detention center for 15 days. The cost to the family was 20,000 yuan in
fines and presents. 2. At the police station, the police questioned Ms. Du's daughter, son-in-law
and husband separately. They asked Du's son-in-law to pay a fine of 4,000 yuan
and Du's husband to pay 6,000 yuan (only 4,200 yuan was collected). If Du's
family did not pay cash, the police threatened to take away Du's husband and
son-in-law. Du's other unmarried daughter had to borrow money. Du's family is
poor and depended on Du Shuyun's sewing for a living. They rent their house and
there is no good furniture at all. Now they are under a very large debt. 3. Because Du Shuyun once stayed at her neighbor Wang Yumei's home when she
was arrested, authorities extorted nearly 8,000 yuan from Wang's family. If they
refused to pay the money, the authorities threatened to take Wang away. All people who know right and wrong said: "The police do not arrest bad
persons but only punish good persons. It must be their lack of money again. What
a world it is!" |
