Falun Dafa Practitioners Zhao Chenglin and Wang Lijuan, A Married Couple from Benxi City, Liaoning Province, Are Brutally Persecuted
(Clearwisdom.net) In mid-October 2001, in a solitary compartment [refers to locking up a
single detainee in a solitary cell] in Benxi City Forced Labor Camp,
an eye-witness saw the dying Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Zhao Chenglin hanging
vertically on a wall with his hands cuffed separately by two handcuffs, both of
which were nailed to the wall, and with his legs locked in two separate
shackles. After Zhao Chenglin was beaten by policemen Wang Yi, Ding Huibo, Zheng
Tao, Zhao Dawei and others, his face was crooked, and his chest and buttocks
were seriously injured. As a result of the torture, his mental capabilities have
been damaged. At the same time, Zhao Chenglin's wife Wang Lijuan, also a Falun Dafa
practitioner, was suffering through inhuman torture at the Benxi City Detention
Center. Until February 2004, Zhao Chenglin had been detained in the Benxi Forced
Labor Camp for a year and a half. After that he was sentenced to a ten-year
prison term. Today, it is unclear whether or not he is still alive. His wife
Wang Lijuan was sentenced to three years imprisonment. She completed this
sentence on February 19, 2004, but Ms. Wang's mother, a paralyzed elderly woman,
passed away after suffering from the psychological trauma of her daughter's
imprisonment while Wang Lijuan was still in prison. At home now are only the
couple's seven-year old son, who attends elementary school, and Mr. Zhao's
seventy-year old mother. The two of them have depended on each other for
survival since Mr. and Mrs. Zhao's imprisonment. Before the suppression of Falun Gong began, Zhao Chenglin was the head of a
medical team in a garrison. Wang Lijuan was a teacher at the Benxi City Commerce
School. Zhao Chenglin's mother was paralyzed and remained in bed for long
periods of time. She could not care for herself, so the couple took very good
care of the old lady. The Zhao family was very harmonious. After the suppression of Falun Gong began, Zhao Chenglin was forced to leave
the army, and he became a doctor at the Benxi Hospital for Infectious Diseases.
During the Chinese Lunar New Year of 2001, Jiang's regime created a false
self-immolation at the Tiananmen Square to defame Falun Gong practitioners,
which shocked the world. On the day after this self-immolation program was
broadcast, Falun Dafa practitioners in Benxi City put up truth-clarification
banners with the words "Tiananmen Square self-immolation is aimed at framing
Falun Dafa." The authorities of the city set out to find those involved in
making the banners. A former Falun Gong practitioner assisting in the
persecution who had renounced Falun Gong due to brainwashing and torture
reported Zhao Chenglin and Wang Lijuan. The city authorities then treated the
couple as "key members" of Falun Gong. On February 19, 2001 Wang Lijuan was tricked into her school, where the
policemen of the Zijin Police Sub-station, who had been hiding there, abducted
her. Then her home, her mother's home, her mother-in-law's home and her work
unit were all searched. On February 20, 2001 Wang Lijuan was arrested. On the
same evening the police attempted to arrest Zhao Chenglin, but Mr. Zhao was able
to escape. On March 22 Benxi Detention Center released Wang Lijuan. However,
after she filled out the release form, the "610 Office" [an agency
specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each
level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary
systems] sent her to a drug rehabilitation center to extort a confession.
The policemen forced Wang Lijuan to keep her eyes open for a successive three
days and nights. However, Wang Lijuan refused to answer any questions. Three
days later, the "610 Office" sent Wang Lijuan back to the detention center once
again. One month later, on April 25, 2001, she was formally incarcerated. On May 28, 2001 the policemen tricked Zhao Chenglin to the
army unit where he once served, located in Qiaotou Township of Benxi City. About
30 soldiers from a company of special agents who were concealed then came out
and abducted him. Zhao Chenglin was beaten before being sent to Benxi Detention
Center. One month later, in July 2002, Zhao Chenglin was sentenced to one year
of forced labor. During his detention at the Benxi Forced Labor Camp, Zhao
Chenglin suffered from the cruel torture of stretching. When the torture starts
the victim's hands and legs are stretched, and then the metal chains are cranked
and tightened, lifting up the victim's body with only the buttocks slightly
touching the floor. In October 2001, Zhao Chenglin successfully escaped from the
forced labor camp with another practitioner. After two weeks on the run, Zhao
Chenglin was reported, and the policemen of the forced labor camp arrested him
again. Under direct instructions from the Political Commissar Chen Zhongwei and
Deputy Head of the Forced Labor Camp Wu Gang, policemen Wang Yi, Ding Huibo,
Zheng Tao, Zhao Dawei and others beat him relentlessly. As a result, Zhao
Chenglin was severely injured and lost consciousness due to the beating. These
policemen received clear instructions to find out the source of the
truth-clarification materials of Benxi City, so even with Zhao Chenglin's life
in critical condition, the policemen did not stop the brutal torture. After information about the persecution of Zhao Chenglin appeared on
Clearwisdom.net, many people learned about how he had suffered. Zhao Chenglin's
families and relatives went to the forced labor camp, asking for his release.
The policemen at the labor camp were a bit restrained and improved their
treatment of Zhao Chenglin. As a result of persecution and torture, Zhao
Chenglin was already extremely weak, and he could no longer take care of
himself. In July 2002, at the time when Zhao Chenglin's term of one-year forced labor
came to completion, the Benxi City "610 Office" and the forced labor camp
plotted together and approved his re-arrest, and they locked him up in Benxi
City Detention Center. In October of the same year, Zhao Chenglin was sentenced
by the Xihu district court to ten years imprisonment. There has been no news of
him since. Now, nobody knows of his whereabouts or if he is still alive. While Zhao was at the forced labor camp, his wife Wang Lijuan suffered for
three years at the Benxi Detention Center. On February 19, 2004 Wang Lijuan's
three-year imprisonment term was complete. Her mother-in-law passed away because
of the heavy psychological trauma she suffered during her incarceration. Only
the 7-year-old elementary school boy and his over 70-year-old grandmother are
left in the Zhaos' home. They depended on each other for survival. Zheng Tao,
Ding Huibo and some other policemen of Benxi Forced Labor Camp occupied the
grandmother's room for a week in order to catch Zhao Chenglin after he escaped
from the forced labor camp. These policemen hid in the room day and night, and
threatened the grandmother into "cooperating" with them. Benxi City's "610 Office" has worked very hard in persecuting Falun Dafa, and
this is especially so with steadfast Falun Dafa practitioners. The "610 Office"
wants to wipe out all of these practitioners. Take for example, Falun Dafa
practitioner Mr. Qiu Zhiyan, who staged a hunger strike at Benxi Forced Labor
Camp and was released on bail for "medical treatment". Benxi Forced Labor Camp
secretly sent him to a mental hospital and attempted to murder him by injecting
him with dangerous amounts of drugs. Their plot failed. Thereafter, Qiu Zhiyan
was torture to death for trying to appeal. Sixty-six-year old retired teacher
Ms. Zhang Cuizhen was tortured at the forced labor camp for more than three
years, and she was on the verge of death. After she was released, she was
hounded by the Benxi City "610 Office", and two months later she died as a
result of the persecution. In another incident, Dafa practitioner Mr. Jiang
Hulin was released from Dabei Prison in Shenyang City after completing four
years of imprisonment, but even before he stepped out of prison, the policemen
from Benxi City's "610 Office" drove a car into the prison and attempted to
abduct him again. Only when Jiang's family risked their own lives to prevent his
