When I make phone calls to China, I usually first tell them that this is an international phone call and want to confirm a certain incident or inform them of some news. Only a small proportion of city people in mainland China have family or friends in other countries. In most cities, an ordinary citizen will feel honored if they receive a phone call from overseas. I have experienced that making inquiries from overseas will usually frighten the evil.

Once I called the Director of a police station and his wife picked up the phone. Our conversation is summarized as follows:

I: Hello, how are you? Is Director X at home?

His wife: He is not in. Where are you calling from?

I: I am making an international phone call and I would like to confirm with him about XX incident because his job is directly related to it.

His wife: He is not working there any more and has been transferred to other place. Are you working in XX factory?

I: XX factory? I am calling you from outside China.

His wife: Then how do you know our home phone number? (Sounding somewhat nervous)

I told her that I got the phone number from the Clearwisdom website and clearly explained the incident and the reason why I called her, as well as how Falun Gong has spread far and wide internationally. I also advised them to be good people. She quietly listened to me for around three minutes. Later she told me that she also received letters and phone calls from XX factory, and her mother was practicing cultivation and their family would not do things to hurt others. She also kept saying that her husband no longer worked there. The call lasted around 6-7 minutes.

Once I called a policeman because some practitioners were given a severe beating and were on the verge of death. I straightforwardly said, "I am an overseas Falun Gong practitioner. I heard that several Dafa practitioners including XXX were brutally beaten, and I would like to confirm with the supervisors of the jail about this." The policeman who answered my phone call immediately changed his voice, "Who beat them, who beat them. Have you seen it?" Then he immediately hung up the phone. In fact, I didn't point out the name of any policeman, but he was already afraid.

Another time I called an ordinary family in Jilin City to clarify the truth, and an older lady answered the phone. At first she was wary of me and was afraid that someone was monitoring the phone call. Later on when she was assured that this call was from outside China, she got really excited, "I like what you say, and please tell me more." I explained further about Falun Gong and the facts of the persecution. The old lady told me, "I am cultivating as a Buddhist, and I will surely pray one minute for your friend (practitioner Liu Chengjun). Today is a very special day and I will write it down in my diary." She also told me her address and hoped I could write letters to her. This phone call lasted about half an hour.

One of my relatives in China told me over the phone that he had received phone calls at his workplace from Mainland Falun Gong practitioners. It's not a common thing for people in China to receive overseas calls, and they're very likely to chat with their family and friends about it afterwards. One phone call from outside China may very well be talked about with several other people.

I feel that phone calls from overseas Dafa practitioners are a very fast, convenient, economical and efficient way to clarify the truth to Chinese people. It is also a process of cultivation for the practitioners themselves.
