(Clearwisdom.net) In March 2001, Baoding Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province launched a new round of persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners, forcing every Dafa practitioner to go through a torture dubbed the "death bed." This torture was learned from other labor camps. The torture is as follows: the victim is placed on a bed face up, with his or her four limbs shackled to the four corners of the bed. The police then place 2 to 5 bricks under the back of the victim, and pad the end of the bed where the feet are placed with objects in such a way that the victim's feet are in a higher position than his or her head. They then tie the victim's chest to the bed plank tightly. They would ask the victim to say, "I will no longer practice." If the victim refuses to say this, they tighten the rope to make the victim suffer excruciating pain. Sometimes they would add more bricks under the back of the victim. This torture could last from 4-5 hours to several days. At the same time, they would shock the victim with electric batons.

Falun Dafa practitioner Yang Aiyuan from Chengde City was a 56-year-old environmental engineer. He was forced to endure this form of torture for a long period of time. The police did not remove him from the bed until he was in critical condition. There was another practitioner called Liu Wen. He was a 30-year-old Beijing resident. He was placed on the death bed for 17 days. By the end of this period his chest, ankles and wrists were severely cut by the rope. His skin had also started to fester and his body was black and blue. When the police removed him from the bed, he was unable to stand up and his body was covered with blisters resulting from the burns made by the electric batons.

The police often tortured practitioners secretly. One frequently used method was to have practitioners stand facing a wall for one or two days, and then ask them, "Is the Tiananmen Self-immolation true or false? Has your teacher collected money?" If practitioners answered differently than the authorities wanted, they would beat practitioners with police clubs until they lost consciousness. Police Captain Li Dayong never hesitated to beat practitioners.

Sometimes the police would order the common criminals to beat Dafa practitioners. As a reward for taking part in the persecution, the police would reduce the criminals' sentences by 1 day, 10 days or 15 days. Therefore, some criminals were very active in beating practitioners. The police also instigated them to body search practitioners for Dafa materials. Whoever was active in these searches would also get a sentence reduction.
