Zhao Guo-an Tortured to Death in the Henan No.3 Labor Camp -- Family Only Allowed to See His Ashes, and Not His Body

Henan Province, Wuyang County farmer Zhao Guo-an, who practiced Falun Dafa, was tortured to death at the end of December 2003 in the Henan Provincial No.3 Labor Camp. His family was not allowed to see his body before cremation and were told to pick up the ashes. This is the third death of a Falun Dafa practitioner in this labor camp.

Mr. Zhao Guo-an was in his 50s, and had been a farmer who lived in Zhaozhuang Village, Houji Township, Wuyang County, Henan Province. He was reported on while clarifying the truth to people in April 2003. Police ransacked his home, took away his Falun Gong books, and arrested him and his wife. Zhao was then sentenced to one year of labor camp, and was locked in the Henan Provincial No.3 Labor Camp located in Xuchang City.

His family requested a visit with him during his term, but the request was denied. Yet, at the end of December 2003, county police suddenly notified his wife, who was detained in the Yancheng Brainwashing Class, that she should go to the labor camp. To her surprise, she only saw her husband's ashes. His family buried his ashes on January 2, 2004.

One male employee admitted that Mr. Zhao died in the labor camp a few days earlier. He said, "As for how Mr. Zhao died, you can ask the Xuchang County Procuratorate, because they dealt with his case from the beginning to the end. They should have all the details."

One Wuyang County Police Station Official said he did not know about the death of Mr. Zhao. He refused to acknowledge that it was his police station that notified Mr. Zhao's wife to come to the labor camp. He said that they should investigate the labor camp.

One policeman in the Houji Township Substation acknowledged that Mr. Zhao died while in detention. One male employee of the Houji Township government acknowledged Zhao's death, and said he died over 20 days ago (when people called in January).

We have learned that besides Mr. Zhao Guo-an, two Falun Dafa practitioners have been tortured to death in the No.3 Labor Camp. They are young lawyer Li Jian, and Normal School teacher Yao Sanzhong, both 34 years old.

Mr. Li Jian was a lawyer from Zhengyang County, Henan Province. He was abducted in 2000 for producing Falun Dafa materials, and was sentenced to three years of labor camp at the end of April 2001. He was inhumanely tortured in Ward No. 1 of the labor camp. He was subjected to a torture method called "tying the ropes" (1) multiple times, put through brainwashing, deprived of sleep, and forced to do heavy labor, etc. He died on April 25, 2002, as a result of severe mental and physical abuse. Mr. Yao Sanzhong was a teacher in the Luohe City Art Normal College in Henan Province. He was sentenced to three years of labor camp by the Luohe City "610 Office" (2) because he practiced Falun Gong. He was tortured in the No.3 Labor Camp with "tying the ropes" and other such torture methods. At the end of December 2002, he was nearly tortured to death, and was then thrown out to the roadside. After hearing that he had been thrown out, his family found him and sent him to the hospital for emergency care, but the doctors could not save him even after one month of their efforts. Besides practitioners from Zhengzhou City, Kaifeng City, and Luoyang City, all male Falun Dafa practitioners who were sentenced to labor camp were sent to the Henan Provincial No.3 Labor Camp located in the suburbs of Xuchang City, near Plant No. 81 (on the road from Xuchang City to Pingdingshan City).

Another trainer in Ward No. 3, Ren Gaoqiang, in his 30s, often swears at and tortures Dafa practitioners. After Mr. Li Jian was tortured to death, he tried hard to keep Li Jian's family from knowing the cause.

Policeman Jin Weishan, who is only around 20 years old, insulted and tortured Li Jian many times. He laughed inhumanly while watching Li Jian be tortured to death.

(1) "Tying the ropes": police tie up the practitioner with a thin rope, circle the rope around his neck, and tie his hands behind his back. Then the police use all their strength to tighten the rope. The rope becomes tighter and tighter around the body of the practitioner, and makes it more and more difficult for him to breathe. The pain is so intense that the practitioner sometimes loses control of his bladder. There are instances when the rope was tightened enough to break a practitioner's arm.

(2) "610 Offices": an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
