(Clearwisdom.net) While the 60^th annual session of UN Human Rights Commission is now taking place in Geneva, the deterioration of human rights in China has attracted wide attention and the persecution and human rights violations against Falun Gong practitioners is particularly severe. At noon on March 24, Falun Gong practitioners from New York and Washington DC rallied in front of the United Nations to call on the UN to urge China to stop the persecution of Falun Gong.

Practitioners Request China to Stop Persecution of Falun Gong

During the rally, a western Falun Gong practitioner read a letter in English to UN Secretary Kofi A. Annan urging him to pay closer attention to the persecution of Falun Gong in China.

A Falun Gong practitioner also read a Chinese statement, which said: "The purpose of our rally today is to call on the international community to pay closer attention to the human rights atrocities against Falun Gong practitioners in China and urge governments of all nations to support a resolution requesting China to improve its human rights during the Geneva UN human rights convention. ...We call on the international community: 1. Support the resolution requesting China to improve its human rights; 2. Through all public and private channels, request China to stop the persecution of Falun Gong; 3. Request China to allow third party international organizations to investigate the persecution of Falun Gong and publicize their investigation report(s)."

Macao practitioner Ms. Huan Hongjian who now lives in New York was invited to give a speech. With her family's first hand experience, she exposed how the Jiang group's persecution of Falun Gong had torn apart millions of Falun Gong practitioners' families.

Afterwards, practitioners quietly practiced Falun Gong exercises to show the world the peacefulness, rationality and serenity of Falun Gong.

New York Policeman: "I know you are very peaceful."

In the past several years, practitioners' peaceful and rational appeals to end the persecution have deeply impressed people from all circles and also obtained the respect and trust of policemen on duty. When this rally started, a practitioner gave a Falun Gong true-clarifying flier to a policeman on duty, and the policeman said: "I don't worry about security here, as I know you are very peaceful."

Jiang Group's Brutal Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners Is Obvious to All

A gentleman named Li was watching the Falun Gong practitioners' rally. When asked for his opinion about China's human rights situation, Mr. Li said that the Chinese government purposefully mixes up the concept of human rights to cover up the deterioration of its human rights situation. Human rights, as recognized by the international community includes freedom of speech, association, religious belief, etc. China's violation of Falun Gong practitioners human rights is obvious to all.

It was reported that the U.S. Department of State announced on March 22 that, because the human rights situation in China has deteriorated in the past year and China failed in its promise to improve human rights, the U.S. would sponsor a resolution regarding China's human rights and requesting it to improve.

Dear Secretary Annan:

The 60th Human Rights Commission of the United Nations is now being held in Geneva. Falun Gong practitioners from around the world held a parade and other peaceful appeal activities in Geneva last week, hoping that governments around the world would come to know about the Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong in China, and appealed to bring Jiang and his major accomplices, Luo Gan, Li Lanqing, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkan, to justice. Falun Gong practitioners in several countries have filed lawsuits against Jiang, including those in the U.S.A., Belgium, Spain, Germany, Taiwan, Korea and other nations, charging him with genocide, torture, crimes against humanity and other atrocities. The lawsuits have won support from people and political leaders in various countries, who acted in support of humanitarianism and justice. The Global Coalition to Bring Jiang to Justice has held activities to try Jiang in over twenty major cities around the world.

By now you have probably heard that the United States will once again attempt to introduce a resolution calling upon the People's Republic of China (PRC) to end its human rights violations in China and meet internationally recognized standards for human rights. At last year's session, the U.S. chose not to offer a resolution of censure in exchange for promises by the Peoples Republic of China to improve its record in selected human rights areas. Outside human rights organizations widely believe the PRC has failed to live up to its commitment. We know our adversary is adroit in accomplishing its goals to deceive the world and continue its repressive policies. China will try again to win over foreign governments, officials, and politicians through diplomatic channels or with trade deals to silence the voices of justice in the world. Unfortunately, Jiang's cohorts disregard the reality that the Bank of China is operating under bankruptcy and seduces foreign enterprises with overly favorable commercial investment projects, in order to impact other government's choices.

What is China's human rights record in the year 2004, almost 5 years since the Practice was made illegal? More than 914 practitioners have been tortured to death in over 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities as of March 2004. However, according to the Chinese government's internal statistics, the actual number of practitioners who died after being arrested had reached 1,600 by the end of 2001. In addition, there are at least 6,000 Falun Gong practitioners who have been illegally sentenced to prison. Many more practitioners have been severely beaten and had large sums of money extorted. Over 100,000 practitioners have been sentenced to forced labor camps. Thousands of practitioners have been forcibly sent to psychiatric hospitals to be tortured with injections that are damaging to the central nervous system and by electric shock treatment. The World Psychiatric Association voted in August 2002 to investigate, but China has repeatedly denied them access to any mental facilities. This body has condemned China's policy of using psychiatric hospitals in this immoral way.

Large groups of Falun Gong practitioners have been forcibly sent to local brainwashing centers, where they have been subjected to both physical and mental torture. The objective is to compel the practitioner to renounce his faith. Typically, the believer is deprived of sleep for several days while being subjected to a bombardment of anti-Falun Gong propaganda to wear him or her down. Police and labor camp authorities are often given quotas for the number of practitioners they must, using their terminology, "transform." Those who make quotas get bonuses or promotions. The founder and teacher of Falun Gong is slandered in these classes and cursed. Can you imagine what it is like to have your beloved teacher to be cursed like this and told that you must do the same if you want to be free and your torture to cease? Family members of practitioners, attempting to visit their loved ones, in at least one well known prison are compelled to step on a picture of the face of the teacher of Falun Gong before being allowed to enter. All this is part of a comprehensive campaign to make practitioners renounce their beliefs and defame Falun Gong and its founder in the eyes of everyone living in China.

Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the UN Commission on Human Rights and numerous others have thoroughly documented the persecution. Our federal government has also expressed support for Falun Gong and condemned the persecution in China. In July 2003, House Concurrent Resolution 188 was passed unanimously and now House Concurrent Resolution 304---condemning the persecution overseas and attempts to interfere with American government officials---is before Congress. Several state elected officials have also previously expressed concern in letters to Ambassador Yang Jiechi. We must unequivocally say that the harming of innocent people for their beliefs is morally wrong and cannot be tolerated by a civilized society.

What most people don't know and even veteran human rights observers find it difficult to fathom is that the whole persecution against Falun Gong is based on lies. The foundation of this house of horrors is nonexistent. The entire basis for the ban of the peaceful practice of Falun Dafa is founded on falsehoods, fabrications, and smears that the government knows are false, but will use whenever and wherever it can gain support. For example, in January 2001, CCTV showed persons who were alleged to be Falun Gong practitioners set themselves on fire on Tiananmen Square in the so-called self-immolation incident. The Washington Post very soon afterward determined that at least two of the individuals were not practitioners. Later analysis of the tape when viewed in slow motion proved that the incident was a staged affair to deceive the Chinese people, and discredit Falun Gong. The fact that the teaching of Falun Gong explicitly forbids suicide was never mentioned in the CCTV broadcasts. The Chinese Government was quite successful in its deceit not only in China where the fabricated incident was repeatedly re-broadcasted, but also abroad where the story was picked up by the news wires. Another example of their outright lying was when CCTV broadcasted a luxurious house in Changchun and claimed that it belonged to Mr. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa, while in fact the owner was a person whose name merely sounded the same as Mr. Li. The police borrowed his house and re-arranged it before the TV crew went to film the house to deceive the public.

CCTV is also notorious for taking Mr. Li Hongzhi's words out of context or deleting words and reversing the meaning of what he says. They have no hesitation to lie if they can gain by it, and this is very troubling to people who assume a news sources shouldn't be making up facts.

Another aspect of this persecution that is not as well known as the torture and killing by the Jiang regime is the news media blockade in China. The Chinese people cannot learn the truth about the persecution and very few really know what is happening in their jails, concentration camps, and mental hospitals. The TV broadcasts are state run and carefully monitored. The same is true of the newspapers and radio. Even the Internet, which was the hope of many that would break down the news monopoly of the government, is largely under the control of a gigantic, insidious surveillance system said to be the largest Internet police force in the world. One cannot type "Falun Gong" or "Democracy" using Google in China. Information from international media has also been blocked from entering the People's Republic. Radio signals broadcasting Voice of America, Radio Free Asia, and BBC continue to be jammed by the Chinese Government. If someone tries to make known evidence of the torture to foreign persons or human rights groups, this is regarded by the Chinese authorities as a crime (called "leaking state secrets") and can result in execution. A number of individuals have disappeared after exposing such torture to foreign media, with many being feared dead. For a policeman or official aware of the torture, to disclose it would be almost to ensure the loss of his job, financial punishment, and imprisonment, if not death. What information we do have, then, has come to us at the greatest of personal risk.

One brave person who tried to break through the news blockade was an American citizen who is now incarcerated and is being brutally detained and tortured. Dr. Charles Lee from Menlo Park, California was arrested upon landing in China at Guangzhou Airport in January 2003 and has been in detention for over one year, after a mock trial under the false charge of "sabotaging of radio and television equipment." A Falun Gong practitioner and member of Amnesty International, Lee had intended to assist in broadcasting evidence of the persecution on Falun Gong by overriding the signal of state-controlled TV broadcast. Lee must have known the risks involved in his efforts. At least 5 Chinese Falun Gong practitioners who successfully broadcasted evidence of the persecution in China have been tortured to death, while others have been sentenced to long periods in jail and have been subject to life-threatening torture. Lee writes in a letter he managed to give to the American consular official in Shanghai that from March 27 and April 2 in 2002, he was handcuffed consecutively for 130 hours. In February, he was tied to an iron, so-called, "death bed," for nine hours, with his four limbs painfully stretched out. He has been subjected to daily brainwashing sessions, but his worse torment of all was the forced feeding treatments when he was on a hunger strike as a protest to the inhuman conditions and treatment. Many practitioners have died from forced feedings. Those who have suffered it say it is excruciatingly painful. On one occasion the feeding tube inserted into Charles nose was left for 39 straight hours, simply to increase the suffering.

We, therefore, can take some comfort today by the statement of the U.S. State Department Spokesman, Richard Boucher, who on last Monday, March 22, made the following announcement: "The United States will introduce a resolution on China's human rights practices at the 2004 UN Commission on Human Rights meeting in Geneva." He went on to say, "Our goal in sponsoring this resolution is to encourage China to take positive, concrete steps to meet its international obligations to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of the Chinese people...The United States has been disappointed by China's failure to meet its commitments made at the U.S. - China Human Rights Dialogue in December 2002 as well as the failure to follow through on its stated intention to expand cooperation on human rights in 2003. We're concerned about backsliding on key human rights issues. That has occurred in a variety of areas since that time. We call on other members of the international community, especially members of the Commission on Human Rights, to join us in supporting a resolution. We also call on members of the Commission to vote against the procedural no-action motions that seek to prevent debate on resolutions... Such no-action motions prevent the only global body charged specifically with human rights from fulfilling its mandate."

The State Department's words of "backsliding" exactly conveys the lack of progress that has been made in improving the situation in China. While many people including journalists and China watchers have been assuming progress has been made, the U.S. State Department got it right: China has been getting worse, not better. For Charles Lee's sake and the millions of others suffering from this irrational persecution, we hope our government's efforts are more successful than in the past. Thousands of Falun Gong practitioners are good, hardworking citizens of the United States of America and throughout the world. We sincerely hope that one day soon, the Falun Gong practitioners who are living now in the holocaust of China, will be free to practice the exercises of Falun Gong and to be free citizens following the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance."

Falun Gong Practitioners in the U.S.

Canadian citizen Mr. Xiao Jin, who currently resides in New York, is appealing to people from all walks of life to help rescue his mother, Ms. Li Guangzhen, who was arrested by police in China. Mr. Xiao learned about her arrest when he called his family in China on the evening of March 15, 2004. Ms. Li was allegedly arrested for distributing materials that clarify the truth about Falun Dafa.

Ms. Li Guangzhen is 66 years old, and lives in the administrative bureau dormitory area of Gongan County, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. She has been a Falun Gong practitioner since 1997. On March 13, Li Guangzhen traveled to Butou Village to tell people the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong, and the local police arrested her after seeing her distributing Falun Gong materials. Witnesses of the incidence stated that another two elderly ladies were arrested at the same time, also for distributing truth-clarifying materials. Li Guangzhen is currently detained at the Gongan County Detention Center.

Mr. Xiao Jin's friend checked with the Gongan County Public Security Bureau and confirmed that Xiao's mother had been arrested. Li Guangzhen is facing imminent danger of being sentenced to prison or a forced labor camp. She is not allowed to meet with family members. Xiao Jin's father is an invalid who became paralyzed in a car accident. He needs assistance and is dependent on Xiao Jin's mother. After Xiao Jin called home, his father could not stop crying. He worried deeply about the safety of his wife, plus, he now has nobody to take care of him.

Xiao Jin is extremely worried about his mother and father, and deeply concerned about deterioration of his father's health.

The Chinese public security bureau's regulations are very clear that the police department may not detain senior citizens, pregnant women, disabled persons, overseas Chinese, and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The Gongan County Public Security Bureau has acted in violation of this regulation.

Mr. Xiao appeals to all kind-hearted people worldwide to urge the Chinese authorities to immediately and unconditionally release his mother and the other two Falun Gong practitioners who were arrested at the same time. They must be reunited with their families.

Ms. Li Guangzhen is a 66 year old housewife and has been a Falun Gong practitioner since 1997. She lives by the principles, "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." These principles guide her in all she does and all she undertakes.

One time, Li Guangzhen and her husband withdrew money from the bank. After returning home, they found that the bank teller had given them 20,000 yuan (1) too much. They instantly returned to the bank and told the teller about it. The teller was shocked to see such good people. They returned all the money that was not theirs and it became a story making the news all over town!

In May 2002, Gongan County Mahaokou Town Police Station arrested her when she was telling others the facts about Falun Gong. They detained her 20 days at the county detention center. On March 13, 2004, she was again arrested. Her elderly and invalid husband is now helpless. He can only stay in bed and has no one to take care of him.

Mr. Zhang Jianping, spokesperson for Falun Gong in Paris, has faxed us the news that a delegation from the World Psychiatric Association will depart for Beijing on the 4th of April 2004 to investigate the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners inside China's psychiatric hospitals. The persecution allegedly takes place under the directives of Chinese officials.

(Clearwisdom.net, March 26, 2004) As Falun Dafa becomes better known in Germany, more and more German people are seeing and coming to understand the emblem of Falun Dafa, known as the Falun symbol. However, an incident recently took place that causes one to think carefully about the situation.

After the Second World War, many people became very sensitive to the display of the Srivatsa symbol (Swasktika) and subsequently wrongly associate the Falun symbol with its Nazi counterpart. In Germany, there is a law that prohibits the display of the Nazi symbol or other similar symbols.

On many occasions over the last few years, those with ulterior motives or people who did not know the truth regarded the Falun symbol as being against the law and reported it to the police. However, each time practitioners would go and let people know the truth, thus letting more of the police force hear about Falun Dafa and the persecution in China.

In Spring 2003, the chairman of the German Falun Dafa Association suddenly received a notice of indictment from the German Public Prosecutor, charging him with displaying the 'illegal' symbol on a German-registered website. Due to the 'seriousness' of this matter, the court gave the chairman only a week to hand in a written reply before a scheduled court trial.

Faced with such a situation, Dafa practitioners calmly held a discussion. Everyone reached a consensus: to make full use of this opportunity to further explain the facts to the Public Prosecutor, the judge and the German people. Very quickly, practitioners submitted a long letter to the District Court through a lawyer, explaining in detail the meaning of the Falun symbol, introducing Falun Dafa and explaining the truth about the persecution.

The case, which was originally intended to come to trial, was quickly postponed and no further information was provided. The lawyer became a little impatient and rang to ask the judge what was happening. The judge confirmed that he had read the letter but needed some time to understand the situation and hoped that we could continue to wait.

A few months went by. The day before the opening of the 2003 European Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference in Berlin, practitioners received a court verdict sent by Dr Munchbach, the head of the District Court, judging the Falun symbol to be legal and reasonable in Germany and stating that all expenses related to the case would be borne by the prosecutor.

In the court verdict, the judge also pointed out that in appearance, the Falun symbol and the illegal symbol are entirely different from each other and their meaning is also completely opposite. He said, "The Falun symbol represents peace and harmony in the mind which is also what the Falun Gong movement firmly advocates."

After understanding the truth, the judge also wrote the following into the court verdict document: "There are Falun Gong followers all over the world. Presently Falun Gong is being brutally persecuted in its country of origin, China. To date, 35,000 people have been arrested and several hundred of its leading cadres have been sentenced from 2 to 12 years imprisonment without any convicting evidence."

The public prosecutor could not accept the verdict of the court in the first instance and subsequently lodged an appeal to a higher court. Still maintaining a calm attitude, practitioners regarded every opportunity to clarify the truth with righteous thoughts as precious. After careful investigation and research into the District Court's verdict and both parties' appeals, the higher court made a final judgment in March 2003, upholding the original judgment and refusing an application to appeal further.

Thus after several setbacks, the Falun symbol is finally able to emit its radiance in Germany without constraint, illuminating a path that leads to a beautiful future for the German people.

(Clearwisdom.net, March 26, 2004) On March 22, 2004, Falun Gong practitioners in Helsinki appealed at the Chinese Embassy calling for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong in China, and for the chief criminals responsible for instigating this atrocity to be brought to justice. Almost everyone visiting the consular section at the embassy received information about Falun Gong and many people stopped to read the display boards revealing the truly horrific nature of this persecution.

Jiang Zemin launched the campaign of suppression against Falun Gong in July 1999 and to date, almost one thousand innocent people have died from brutal torture. The authorities in China have used all manner of illegal means and all kinds of cruel torture techniques to force practitioners to stop living their lives by the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance, the guiding principles of Falun Dafa.

The chief criminals responsible for instigating and controlling the persecution are Chinese Government officials Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang. Legal action has already been taken against them in several countries. The persecution against Falun Gong is still very serious in China and practitioners in Finland will continue to appeal at the Chinese embassy until the persecution is completely brought to an end.

(Clearwisdom.net) On the afternoon of March 22, 2004, Mr. Xun Li and Ms. Gongyu Dai, representatives of Canada Falun Dafa Association delivered an appeal letter with 50,000 Canadian people's signatures to the Canadian Prime Minister. In the letter, Falun Gong practitioners call on the Canadian government to urge the Chinese government to end the persecution of Falun Gong and spread of hate propaganda in Canada.

Mr. Li said, "The persecution in China has lasted for nearly 5 years. The 50,000 signatures show that ending the persecution of Falun Gong is the Canadian people's wish. Earlier, we delivered about 150,000 signatures to the Prime Minister."

On the same day, Amnesty International and the United Nations Commission on Human Rights also delivered investigative reports on the Jiang group's persecution of Falun Gong.

During the last few years, Canada has rescued more than ten Falun Gong practitioners, including Mr. Zhang Kunlun, Mr. Lin Shenli and Ms. Wang Yuzhi.

Mr. Li said, "Since the persecution started in 1999, the Canadian governments (Prime Minister, members of parliament, officials from federal, provincial and city governments), non-government organizations (Amnesty International, Canada's labor organizations, student associations etc.) and people from all walks of life called on China to stop persecuting Falun Gong and voiced their support for the Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted."

Falun Gong practitioners in Canada also handed a 60-page-long investigative report from the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) entitled "Chinese Officials' Illegal Acts in Canada". Mr. Li said, "This report lists Chinese Diplomatic Officials' acts of instigating hatred in Canada. Many facts have shown that the instigation affects not only the Chinese community, but also all of Canadian society. The purpose of these Chinese officials is to instigate hatred and isolate Falun Gong practitioners in the community."

The National Post published a report on March 20 entitled, "Falun Gong Persecution Spreads to Canada" .

Mr. Li said that most of Canadian officials receiving hate propaganda materials have reject the acts of instigating hatred and throw those materials in the trash. Many officials condemn the Chinese embassy's and consulate's acts of instigating hatred in Canada, such as members of Parliament, Mr. Rob Anders and Mr. Gordon Earle, and Mayor Andy Wells of Saint John, New Brunswick.

Mr. Li said, "The Canadian Falun Dafa Association has received various hate materials from the Chinese Embassy and Consulate, which are forwarded to us by Canadian officials. The association is collecting more evidence and will take action. At the same time, we hope the Canadian Prime Minster will stop the Chinese Embassy and Consulate's acts of instigating hatred in Canada."

(Clearwisdom.net) On March 26, Minghui reporter Lin Zhangxiang reported from Washington DC: Ms. Shi Wei and her husband Lin Chuan, residents of Virginia, have had their passports unreasonably withheld by the Chinese Embassy because of their belief in Falun Gong.

The Lin Couple graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China and they have lived in the U.S. for twelve years. On December 30, 2003, they went to the Chinese Embassy to apply for their passport renewal. This is a routine procedure and usually only takes a few days to get it done. However, the passports have not been returned since then.

Why would the Chinese Embassy withhold their passports? Ms. Shi Wei said: "When we went to the Chinese Embassy to pick up our passports, one of the staff in the visa office couldn't find them. Ten minutes later, a staff member whose last name is Lin took us into a small room. He told us that the embassy won't grant our passport renewal because we appealed in front of the Chinese Embassy and have participated in many other Falun Gong activities."

Ms. Shi Wei then asked him: "Did we violate any law so that we can't be Chinese citizens anymore? Shouldn't Jiang Zemin be brought to justice as he has murdered so many innocent Falun Gong practitioners? He couldn't answer, and he just repeated that the higher authorities refused to renew our passports."

Two months have passed, and there is no sign that the Chinese Embassy is going to change its mind. Ms. Shi Wei thus went to the visa office of the Chinese Embassy to raise the public's awareness about the embassy's unfair actions. After learning of her and her husband's situation, many people who went to the visa office were very surprised and couldn't understand why the embassy has done this to them.

Reportedly, there are many similar cases in the U.S. For example, according to Ms. Shi, Falun Gong practitioners Kuang Jiyun and his wife from Kansas used to live close to her and their passport renewals have been permanently suspended by the Chinese Consulate in Chicago.

(Clearwisdom.net) A Taiwanese Falun Gong practitioner surnamed Hong went to Nepal twice to introduce Falun Gong to the Nepalese, once in July 2003 and again in January 2004. She also exposed the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. Yet Ms. Hong was followed and threatened by personnel from the Chinese embassy in Nepal. This is proof that Jiang's group is attempting to extend the persecution of Falun Gong to Nepal, a country with a rich cultural and religious tradition.

This Falun Gong practitioner recollected the situations she experienced in Nepal. "In July 2003 I went to Nepal to visit a friend. He wanted to learn Falun Gong, so I gave him a copy of the English version of Zhuan Falun and taught him the exercises. I also hung up posters about Falun Gong, to tell the public the truth of Falun Gong. I volunteered to teach the Falun Gong exercises at the biggest bookstore in the capital city, Katmandu. Many western tourists came to learn Falun Gong. I also spoke to Chinese tourists regarding the persecution of Falun Gong in China. In January 2004 I went to Nepal again to share experiences with practitioners there. Officials from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal interfered with me and obstructed my movements."

The practitioner continued, "The personnel from the Chinese embassy in Nepal bribed the Nepalese citizens to pretend to show an interest in learning Falun Gong and to visit a practitioner there in order to get materials such as Falun Gong books and exercise instruction tapes. Thereafter, the practitioner in Nepal continuously received threatening phone calls, one of them telling him that if he continued to practice or teach Falun Gong, they would give his personal information to the Chinese embassy. They also otherwise intimidated this person and wanted him to provide information about Falun Gong, adding that they might also do some bad things to hurt him. These people further tried to extort 2,000 U.S. dollars from him as blackmail for their conditional request to stop them from reporting his information to the Chinese embassy. For safety concerns, that practitioner in Nepal has since moved from his residence. He is still continously receiving threatening phone calls to this day."

Ms. Hong indicated that the Chinese embassy also sent people to the hotel where she was staying, to inquire about her personal information. They also discredited and defamed Falun Gong to the hotel staff and used a combination of persuasion and threats to dissuade them from learning Falun Gong. She said, "Before the Chinese embassy's interference, the boss and the hotel staff practiced the Falun Gong exercises together with me every evening, and they had been practicing very well. But on this most recent visit, the boss did not dare to discuss Falun Gong much; it looked like the boss had received a lot of pressure."

"A similar situation also occurred with the bookstore where I had previously volunteered to give classes to teach the exercises," she continued. "I knew the bookstore salesclerks very well before, and some of them even showed interest in learning the exercises. But when I got there this time, some salesclerks looked at me with a strange expression and appeared to be fearful. They were not willing to discuss Falun Gong much." It has also been reported that some people went to the bookstore and bought up all the Falun Gong books in the bookstore so people who wanted to learn Falun Gong would be unable to find any Falun Gong books.

The Chinese embassies and consulates have obstructed Falun Gong practitioners from teaching the practice and prevented them from participating in community activities around the world. This is one of the well-known approaches that Jiang's group uses to extend the persecution of Falun Gong overseas.

According to a report published on July 13, 2003 by the "Committee for Investigating the Crimes of the Chinese Embassies and Consulates in the Persecution of Falun Gong," an affilitate of the World Organization for Investigating the Persecution of Falun Gong, many Chinese embassies and consulates carried out Jiang's policy to suppress and persecute Falun Gong and attempted to extend the persecution of Falun Gong overseas. Chinese embassies, consulates and staffers have used different approaches to participate in the persecution of Falun Gong. The approaches employed have been so mean and despicable that it is shocking to know the immensity of the scope of their efforts. In order to prevent this kind of persecution from spreading further, and to protect the rights of the people and of the Falun Gong practitioners overseas, these two organizations have initiated a course of action. They are investigating the Chinese embassies, consulates and their staffers' legal liability in their participating in the Falun Gong persecution, and have begun to collect evidence of their activities around the world. This information will be corroborated and used as evidence of the perpetrators' crimes, in order to take legal action against them in the future.

After some investigation, this organization has discovered that several overseas Chinese groups have frequently acted to damage Falun Gong groups and to hurt Falun Gong practitioners. Some of their conduct has been extremely bad and can be considered criminal. Examples include the case in which Falun Gong practitioners were beaten in front of the Chinese consulate in Chicago, and the incident in which several pro-Communist overseas Chinese leaders in New York's Chinatown beat Falun Gong practitioners. These are examples of crimes carried out under orders from Chinese embassies and consulates. These people continuously propagandize to defame Falun Gong to other Chinese groups in the U.S. Such activities are orchestrated to incite hatred, and to compel and command people to commit crimes against Falun Gong practitioners. Some of these guilty people have been brought to trial and convicted in U.S. courts.

A policeman in a district police station was very confused as to why the government persecuted Falun Gong practitioners, because he knew they were all good people. When the city started holding brainwashing classes the police were ordered to go and ask every practitioner if they still practiced, and to send anyone persisting in their practice to the brainwashing classes. This policeman tried his best to protect practitioners in his district. In fact, not one of the many practitioners in his district was ever arrested or sent to a brainwashing class. Whenever his superiors gave new orders to arrest practitioners, he always tried his best to protect as many as possible. He told practitioners, "The higher-ups wanted me to arrest you. I will do whatever I can to protect you." This kindhearted policeman recently received a job promotion.

A leader in a certain institution knows that practitioners are all good people, so he always treats practitioners in his institution well. After he retired, he suddenly got a big pay out which made him very happy. When he met a practitioner, he mentioned this reward to the practitioner, who then told him, "This is because you treat practitioners nicely." He smiled and told the practitioner, "Another leader of the institution who persecuted practitioners almost died of a serious illness. Even though he went to different places to find a cure, he was still ill. I know that's because he did evil things."

At around 1:30 a.m. one night an on-duty policeman got a phone call from the patrolling police officers asking him to come and claim a practitioner who they had just arrested. This policeman replied, "I'm on-duty and no one else is around." After a while, the patrolling police officers called him again. He still could not go but said, "Let me see if I can find someone else." At about 4:00 a.m., the patrolling police officers called again and he told them, "All the people I called had their cell phones turned off, so I can't contact anyone." After several days, this policeman said to a person, "I don't want to persecute Falun Gong."

A certain village party secretary did not understand the truth about Falun Gong at the beginning. As practitioners kept clarifying the truth to him, he began to understand and started to admire practitioners very much. Whenever there were orders from his superiors to intensify the persecution of Falun Gong, he notified practitioners asking them to be more careful. Once at a town hall meeting, a certain leader wanted to arrest a female practitioner from this party secretary's village. He stood up and said, "I know this person very well. Don't arrest her." Thus he protected many practitioners in his village.

On a Sunday in December 2000, a practitioner went to Beijing to validate Dafa. On the following Monday, he went to work as usual. The security section chief of his work unit was very happy to see him come back and hurried to call the police station, "The practitioner in our work unit is all right and he came to work today." The policeman, however, asked the section chief to keep an eye on the practitioner so he could come get him. After hanging up, the section chief immediately called the practitioner, "Hurry and leave. The police are coming to arrest you." Later, the section chief informed the practitioner many times of possible dangers.

(Clearwisdom.net) I am a Middle School teacher. One day in March 2000, the police illegally searched my home, arrested me and took me to a detention center where I was held for over a month. My family members bailed me out with several hundred thousand yuan. After coming home the school manager tried to make me sign a so-called "Dissociation Statement," (renouncing the practice of Falun Gong), telling me that otherwise he would not let me return to work. When I refused to do so, I lost my job.

My relatives were unable to handle all of these upsets and advised me to sign the statement. They were very angry when I refused to sign it and showed some dislike for Dafa. They did not change their hearts even after I explained the facts to them. But later, after Falun Dafa helped my mother regain her health after a sudden illness, they all had a change of heart.

On the night of December 16, 2003, my over 80 year old mother suffered a sudden stroke. Her mouth became distorted and she was incapable of moving her hands. Her eyes were closed and she was unable to talk. My mother did not seem to get any better after a week of hospitalization, so I took her home. I gave her the prescribed injections and medications every day. Five days passed, but her illness seemed to be getting worse and she slept all day. I was very worried and my daughter (who has her third eye open) said, "Teacher wants Grandma to practice." That's when I decided that no matter what, she must practice.

Yesterday afternoon she opened her eyes, and so I lifted her up, crossed her legs, covered them with a blanket, and conjoined her hands. She sat this way for half an hour, and the next day she sat for a whole hour. That night Teacher began to purify mother's body. She would use the bathroom 3 times every half hour, and each time a great quantity was cleaned out. When mother was done she said, "My intestines have been cleared out." After that she was able to talk, joke and even watch TV, just as though she had never gotten ill. I meditated with my mother twice a day and read Zhuan Falun to her. She stopped using all medications. The next day, my brother (a medical professor) returned, and seeing how mother was suddenly well, he was very happy, and changed his heart towards Falun Dafa. My mother stayed with me for ten days and all her illnesses disappeared. When my family took her back home for New Year's Day, she walked down the 5 flights of stairs by herself.

For New Years, all our relatives came together. I used mother's story about how her illness amazingly healed to clarify the truth to them, explaining that it is Falun Dafa's Teacher who saved mother. In the face of the truth, they all witnessed the magnificence of Dafa and came to understand that Falun Dafa is good. They accepted the truth clarifying materials that I gave them. After this they became very supportive towards my practice of Falun Dafa. Seeing them awaken, my appreciation towards Teacher is beyond description by words.

Aunt Wen used to suffer from diabetes. She sought medical help in every possible way but could not be cured. Two years ago she began to practice Falun Gong and regained her health very quickly. One day in March 2004, Aunt Wen came across someone whom she knew. That person exclaimed, "How did your health become so good?" Aunt Wen said, "I practice Falun Gong! That's why I am so healthy!" That person said, "So Falun Gong is actually good! Could you teach me the Falun Gong exercises?"

One morning in March 2004, a Dafa practitioner and a secondary school teacher were chatting in the office. The teacher said, "For the last two years, I have had gastric problems. It is so terrible to have to take medicine everyday." The Dafa practitioner said, "Ever since I have practiced Falun Gong, I have not fallen ill and not needed to take any medicine." The teacher kept quiet and did not say anything. The practitioner then said, "Come and practice Falun Gong, I can come to your house to teach you." The teacher said, "I will come to your house to learn instead."

A few days later, the teacher went to the practitioner's house. The practitioner showed him a Falun Dafa truth-clarifying VCD. He watched with full attention for an hour. Before leaving he told the practitioner, "I will come here and learn Falun Gong from you."

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Tong Guijie, in her fifties, was a worker at the Baicheng City Post Office in Jilin Province. On December 11, 2001, she was arrested for hanging a banner about Falun Gong. The police from the local Xingfu Police Station took her to the detention center, where she was detained for 17 days. She went on a hunger strike in protest. By December 28, she was in critical condition due to the abuse she suffered, and she passed away on her way to Changchun City Heizuizi Female Labor Camp.

We learned from family members of the former director of Xingfu Police Station that before sending Ms. Tong to Changchun City, the police asked the local "610 Office" director, "She is in critical condition, do you still want to send her to the labor camp?" The answer was, "Yes, send her even if she dies. No one will be responsible for her death." After Ms. Tong's death, the detention center lied, saying that she died from a heart attack. We are still investigating the details of the abuses Ms. Tong suffered.

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Cao Yali from Nong'an County, Jilin Province, was persecuted brutally for refusing to renounce Falun Dafa during her detention at Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp. She was released because of obvious medical reasons when she was dying in August 2003. She later died on February 6, 2004.

Ms. Cao Yali, 46 years old, had practiced Falun Dafa since 1996. Changchun City Public Security Bureau and local police took her into custody on January 24, 2002 for allegedly talking to people about Falun Gong on January 16, 2002, and this was in the same period in which some practitioners were put on trial illegally.

The police blindfolded her and jailed her in a secret interrogation facility, (Some people have revealed that it was a place called, "Jingyuetan" in Changchun City). There they tortured her for one whole day and night by putting her on a "tiger bench" (1), hitting and shocking her with electric batons, putting a pail over her head and then striking the pail violently, freezing her outside in the -20^o C [-4^o F] weather when she only had on a cotton sweater, and depriving her of sleep. Then, without presenting any evidence, they sentenced her to two years of forced labor at Changchun City Heizuizi Female Detention Center. She was held in the No.4 Brigade.

At the Heizuizi Detention Center, because Ms. Cao refused to renounce Falun Dafa, the police tortured her mentally and physically. She suffered from high blood pressure, and her blood pressure was at times as high as 220MC/NG. She was released for medical reasons in August 2003, when she was apparently dying. On February 6, 2004, she died from complications that resulted from the prolonged torture and mistreatment she endured.

(1) "tiger bench": an instrument of torture. One is forced to sit on a small iron bench with knees tightly tied on the bench and hands tied behind the back. (Clearwisdom.net) Zhang Zhong is a Dafa disciple in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. As a result of the persecution he received at Daqing Prison, his legs were injured and he became disabled. In addition to that there was a lot of bleeding from his mouth. The jail police still would not allow his family to visit him. It is currently unknown if Zhang Zhong is still alive. His wife, He Zhihong, was kidnapped once again on March 8, 2004.

He Zhihong is an employee of Heilongjiang Chemical Plant, Gas Separating Division. At about 2 p.m. on March 8, 2004, when she was distributing truth-clarification material in Sansheng Village, policemen from Lamadian Police Station arrested her. The police also went to search her home and confiscated Falun Dafa books and materials. He Zhihong is now detained in the Daqing Detention Center.

Zhang Zhong was illegally sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment for broadcasting Falun Gong documentary programs on the TV network. He is now detained in Daqing Prison. He Zhihong was sentenced to labor camps many times for persisting in her practice of Falun Gong. After being released from Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center, she went to Daqing Prison many times to visit her husband, but the prison officers refused her visitation privileges because she was a Falun Dafa practitioner.

In the middle of January 2004, division head Li and police guard Tian Xifeng brutally beat Zhang Zhong. Because of that, Zhang Zhong had difficulty eating--he vomited everything he ate, even spitting out blood. He was in a life-threatening situation. On the morning of March 11, 2004, a message was leaked out from the prison that Zhang Zhong was receiving IV treatment. The prison officials now tightly block such information, and they have assigned four people to keep watching Zhang Zhong day and night. The prison officials would not release Zhang Zhong, nor would they allow family members to visit. When He Zhihong requested visitation with Zhang Zhong, the prison guard said, "You can just wait, and we will let you know when he dies. We will tell you of his death."

Recently, the persecution of Zhang Zhong was exposed on the Internet. This put the Daqing officials under pressure, and they were afraid of taking responsibility for their actions. So police guard Li Weinan and division director Yu Mingchun (from He Zhihong' work unit) forced Zhang Zhong's family members to sign documents that claim that "the prison officials did not beat Zhang Zhong. And Zhang Zhong's death has nothing to do with the prison." Meanwhile, the police guard in the prison forced Zhang Zhong to sign a document saying, "if [Zhang Zhong] dies, it has nothing to do with the prison."

Why do Daqing Prison officials again and again refuse Zhang Zhong's family members' requests to visit him? Why were the authorities so eager to absolve themselves of any responsibility? Why did they absurdly claim that they were "allowing family members to visit on March 14 (Sunday)" when they arrested He Zhihong, his wife, on March 8? We hope that everyone will pay attention to these facts and support justice.

Case 1:

Falun Dafa Practitioners Ms. Fu Ruxian, 61, and her sister Fu Rufen, 54, were arrested by the police at Chongqing Train Station on their way to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. They were brought back to Tongnan County that night and placed in a drug rehabilitation center. National Security Brigade captain Zhang Liang directed drug addicts to search them and found 4,750 Yuan. Zhang Liang then put the money into his own pocket without writing any receipts.

On the third day, they took the sisters to a jail where Zhang Liang interrogated them. In front of another policeman Zhang said to them: "Your living or dying depends on what I say. As long as you are willing to pay, I can let you go with my one word." But how could they have any money? The 4,750 Yuan that Zhang took away was Fu Ruxian's retirement savings. Because they had no money, Zhang detained them for another 36 days. Upon their release, Zhang demanded that their families each pay 1,500 Yuan for bail. Their family members said: "Why not deduct it from the 4,750 Yuan that was taken from them?" Zhang replied: "No way. I need another 3,000 Yuan before I will let anybody go. In addition, each person has to pay 5 Yuan a day for living expenses." Their families had to borrow money from loan sharks to pay Zhang. Half a year later, Zhang wrote a note declaring that he had confiscated the bail bond. Regarding the 4,750 Yuan, unsurprisingly, no one knows its whereabouts.

Case 2:

In September 1999 Zhou Jian of Tongnan County, a practitioner in his forties, was taken from his home by Zhang Liang and a group of other policemen, and was imprisoned in the detention center. Later they moved him to a jail, and finally to a drug rehabilitation center, and refused to release him for a long time. To save her husband, Zhou's wife went to see Zhang and was asked to pay 20,000 Yuan plus a bail bond. He told her, "We guarantee that we won't arrest him again after his release." But not long after Zhou's release, Zhang and his gangs arrested him again. Zhou's wife was helpless and sighed, "I have no more money to pay." Unable to get any more money, Zhang sent Zhou and five other practitioners to Xishanping Labor Camp in Chongqing City for forced labor on January 10, 2000.

Case 3:

Female Practitioners Fu Ruhuan, Fu Rufen, and Zhang Shengqun went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa on December 27, 1999, and were arrested and sent back to Tongnan County. The first thing that Zhang Liang did was to ask people to search them for money. Finding 100 Yuan on Fu Ruhuan and 100 Yuan and 60 cents on Fu Rufen, they complained about how it was too little.

Case 4:

Practitioner Zhang Shengqun in Shouqiao Village was abducted and taken to Tongnan County on March 1, 2003, and was illegally detained for five months. They wanted him to pay 3,000 Yuan, but because he had been extorted several times in the past and had little money left in his home, his family paid 400 Yuan and wrote a promissory note for the rest. The receipt that they got from Zhang stated that he was jailed for 15 days instead of five months.

Case 5:

Ms Zheng Fengying, 56, lived in the Third Commune of Shouqiao Second Village. One day in 2001, while she was preparing for her husband's birthday celebration, the evil people found an excuse to convince her to go to the village office to answer some questions. Without even letting her change her clothes before leaving home, they locked her up as soon as she got there and extorted 3,300 Yuan from her.

(Clearwisdom.net) All six members of Mr. Tian Fujin's family from Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia, cultivate Falun Dafa and have become the main targets of persecution from the local lawless police. All six have been detained and sent to labor camps many times. Tian's wife, Liu Xiurong, filed an appeal against policeman Shao Jun for extorting money and harassment. Recently, Tian Fang, the eldest daughter of Mr. Tian, was arrested again when she went to prison to see her third sister and her father. She is now detained in Hexi Detention Center, Tongliao City.

Tian Fang, the eldest daughter, was sent to the brainwashing class once and unjustly detained four times. In 2000, she was sentenced to a labor camp for two years. Because she could not pass the physical examination, she was released for medical treatment. Because of the frequent harassment from police and the refusal of her mother-in-laws' family to let her stay in her home (they were deceived by Jiang's propaganda), she has to live on the street for long periods of time. Recently, she was arrested again for going to Huhehaote City Prison to visit her third sister Tian Miao. She is now detained in the Hexi Detention Center of Tongliao City.

Tian Xin, the second daughter, has a son, Guo Siyuan, who is less than eight years old. She lived at her mother's house. Before her son was three years old, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained for 35 days. Since then, she was detained twice and sentenced to a labor camp for two years, but released ahead of schedule.

Tian Miao, the third daughter, was sent to a brainwashing class once, detained four times, where she suffered from various brutal tortures, including shackling and tying with ropes (1). She has been sentenced to six years. She was first sent to Baoanzhao and then transferred to the Women's Prison of Huhehaote City. She has been frequently tortured with electric batons, forced-feeding, cuffed hanging-up (2), etc., for her persistence in her cultivation of Falun Dafa. Now, she is in perilous condition in prison.

Dafa practitioner Mr. Tian Fujin is now unjustly detained in the Wuyuan Labor Camp.

The youngest son of Mr. Tian Fujin, Tian Shuangjiang, was sentenced for three years and is now detained in Tongliao City Prison. He has suffered from forced hard labor until now.

Mr. Tian's wife, Ms. Liu Xiurong was unjustly detained twice and sent to a labor camp for two years. She has now been released.

In December 2000, Shao Jun, a police officer from the 610 Office, took 4300 Yuan from Ms. Liu's house when he ransacked her home. It was returned after repeated requests from Ms. Liu's family. In April 20002, Shao Jun extorted 1000 Yuan from her using threats and deceit, after he obtained a PIN number of her Mudan credit card. Mr. Tian Fujin's wife sued him in accordance with the law. Police officer Shao Jun harbored resentment for this in his heart. In 2003, when Mr. Tian Fujin went to Tumuji Labor Camp to visit his third daughter Tian Miao (she was later transferred to Huhehaote Women's Prison), he was arrested again for carrying Teacher's articles. After a half-year detention in Hexi Detention Center, he was again sent to a labor camp.

Headed by Shao Jun, the policemen fabricated evidence that played a critical role in unjustly sentencing Mr. Tian Fujin to a labor camp. Although the family members were allowed to "review the case", it was merely a formality. Mr. Tian Fujin is currently being held in Wuyuan Labor Camp. However, Mr. Tian Fujin's wife did not give up her right to appeal to a higher court. She sued Shao Jun for extorting money and harassment.

Tian Fang went to Huhehaote City from Tongliao City at about 5 PM on February 24, 2004. She was most likely arrested on her way. She has been sent back to Hexi Detention Center of Tongliao City and unjustly detained there.

In the evening on February 28, the police ransacked Ms. Tian Fang's house.

At about 9 PM on February 28, the director of Police sub-bureau, the director of Yongqing Police Station, the director of the neighborhood Administrative Office, together with 610 office agents Shao Jun and Wang Po, about 20 people in all knocked violently on Tian's door, in the name of Procuratorate Bureau to verify some information. Ms. Tian Xin refused to open the door for them. During their stand off, the window of the 7^th floor room was smashed. The 610 Office policeman Baoji Ritumu broke in through the window first, then Gen Biao, Bai Jing and others from the Yongqing Police Station followed. When they opened the door, Shao Jun and other policemen swarmed in. They took out a piece of paper, saying they were reading the search warrant: "Tian Fang went to Beijing, we need to search her apartment." Subsequently, these 20 some people started a destructive search.

They found Tian Xin's personal files. Following orders from the director of the Police Sub-Bureau, Bai Jing, police from Yongqing Police Station pried the box open with a screwdriver. They found an article describing the persecution of Tian Shuangjiang (Mr. Tian's youngest son) and an address book.

During the commotion, Ms. Liu Xiurong peacefully clarified the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution to them. She said to Shao Jun: "Although I sued you, I don't hate you. This is the compassion of Falun Dafa practitioners. I am saving you, not hurting you. My goal is prevent you from committing other bad things." Shao Jun kept silent; the other 20 some people also were silent.

After a long search, they finally found a word engraving board (a metal board that holds wax paper for making master copies used in roller printing, a means used by practitioners to make copies of truth clarification material), that could be considered as evidence. They video-taped it as evidence. Meanwhile, they took two pairs of shoes, one pair belonging to Tian Xin and another pair belonging to Tian Fujin (who is being held in Wuyuan Labor Camp). They also took a page advertising a notebook computer from a 1998 computer magazine and a wooden brush. These articles were considered as "evidence". Police officer Baoji Rimutu broke into the closets in the two rooms. Although he had a key, he broke the basement door open anyway. He left a complete mess in the basement. Even the neighbors' belongings were not spared.

Mr. Tian Fujin was 54 years old. He was a leader in the technical section of Tongliao Leather Factory and assistant president of the factory. He started at the business in 1995. He was honest and reliable. In 1996, he started to practice Falun Gong. On July 22, 1999, he went to Changchun City to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained for 48 hours after he returned. On December 23, 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal and was arrested in Tiananmen Square. He was sent back to his hometown and detained for over two-months before he was sentenced to three years in a labor camp. He was transferred to the men's brigade of Tumuji Labor Camp in 2000 and again to Wuyuan Labor Camp in May 2001.

When he arrived at Wuyuan Labor Camp, the police on duty were conducting a meeting to defame Falun Dafa. Mr. Tian Fujin stood up to validate Dafa and was carried out of the meeting room. He was shocked with five electric batons at the same time everywhere on his body for three hours. His white shirt turned blood red (the police took the bloody shirt away to destroy the evidence of their brutality). Later, policemen punched and kicked him and shocked him again. Tian was beaten so brutally that his face was beyond recognition. Mr. Tian Fujin was placed in solitary confinement.

Mr. Tian Fujin was released on the end of 2001. In July 2003, when he went to Baoanzhao to visit his third daughter Tian Miao. He was arrested again for carrying Teacher's article. He was detained in Tongliao Detention Center for over six months. A group of police, headed by Shao Jun from the 610 Office, falsified evidence and sentenced Mr. Tian Fujin to three years in a labor camp. His family requested a "review of the case." The case is still unresolved.

Tian Shuangjiang is the youngest son of Mr. Tian Fujin. He is 25 years old. In college, Tian Shuangjiang achieved excellent grades and was respected as a very good person. He was unjustly detained twice, sentenced for three years and is now being held in Tongliao Prison.

Tian Shuangjiang began practicing Falun Dafa in 1996. On December 24, 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal and was arrested in Tiananmen Square. After he was sent back, he was detained for 35 days. During detention, he suffered from brutal tortures by policeman Liu Heyan (now relocated). Tian Shuangjiang's legs were kicked until they bled and he was placed in solitary confinement for seven days, where he was only given two meals of a porridge made by pouring boiling water over a corn meal. He became so thin, he looked as if he had only bones covered with skin.

He graduated in May 2001. He tried very hard to find a job. The policemen from Yongqing Police Station made him lose that job using despicable means.

On March 5, 2002, police arrested his third sister, Tian Miao, and took away the keys to his house. Two of his sisters were arrested; he, luckily escaped. One month later, he was reported and arrested when he was reading Minghui.net in Baokang Internet Café in Kezuochongqi. To force a "confession" from him, he was tortured in Tongliao Political and Security Brigade. He was deprived of sleep for three days and was tortured by "tying thin ropes." He was detained in Hexi Detention Center for refusing to wear prison clothes, he was punched, kicked and cuffed with a special cuff called a "pig cuff" that weighs over 22 lbs. Two days later, he was tied to a "dead person's bed"(3) (In Tongliao Hexi Detention Center, the "dead person's bed" is a metal frame in the form of "日". The practitioner's arms and legs are stretched and tied tightly to the frame. All the body weight is borne by the metal tubes. It is very painful). He was tied on the "dead person's bed" for four days.

In January 2003, Tian Shuangjiang was unjustly sentenced to three years imprisonment. He is now detained in Tongliao Prison and is forced to do hard labor. The persecution continues.

1Tying the Ropes The police tie up the practitioner with a thin rope, circle the rope around his neck, and tie his hands behind his back. Then the police use all the force they can muster to tighten the rope. The rope becomes tighter and tighter around the body of the practitioner, and makes it more and more difficult for him to breathe. The pain is so intense that the practitioner sometimes loses control of his bladder. There have been instances when the rope was tightened enough to break a practitioner's arm.

2Cuffed and hung up With both hands cuffed, both feet off or only toes touching the ground, one is hung onto the basketball support or the beam of the house with the handcuffs. The hands and arms will soon become paresthetic (burning or prickling sensation) and numb.

3Dead Person's Bed The four limbs of the practitioner are stretched out and tied to the four corners of an icy-cold metal bed. The practitioner cannot move at all. Neither is he allowed to get up to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom. This treatment will last from several hours up to more than a dozen days. This type of cruel torture causes severe damage to the practitioner, both mentally and physically.

On August 15, 2002, Wu Tiezhu, Chief of police in Chengguan Town, Jinzhou City and other policemen from the same police station arrested Dafa practitioner Zhou Yanjun. Zhou was sentenced to a two-year forced labor term and fined 10,000 yuan. (1)

Simply because Zhou Yanjun did not give up her belief in the principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance" and because she remained steadfast cultivating in Falun Dafa, policemen constantly went to her home to harass her, interfering with her daily work and life. Because of this Zhou went to the police station to explain the facts to them. She told them that Falun Dafa practitioners are good people and that it is not right to harass practitioners, disrupting their normal daily lives. Afterwards, policemen took her away by force. As a result she was sentenced to a two-year forced labor term.

Zhou's home has small children, and the couple's elderly parents were left unattended. Her husband had to support the whole family all by himself. Being required to pay a 10,000 yuan fine--how could a family bear it? Just because she told policemen not to harass good, innocent people, she was fined and thrown into jail.

We hope kindhearted people can stop this kind of persecution and rescue Dafa practitioner Zhou Yanjun.

Ms. Zhu Zhenjuan, approximately 33, is a resident of Shifutou Village (Nianquanbeikou Village), Yingli Township, Jinzhou City. Simply because she remained steadfast in practicing Falun Dafa, which teaches "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance," the police took her away by force in November 2002. The police took her to a police station and used cruel means to interrogate her and collect evidence. After police forced her husband to pay 6,000 yuan in cash, they detained her in a detention center for a year. In December 2002, she received a harsh sentence of seven years.

The Jinzhou City police station collaborated with the Political Security Office to arrest Ms. Gu Liqiang. The arrest was led by Tian Zhigang, Deputy Chief of the police station and Wang Junqing, Assistant Director of Political Security Office, who went to Leichen Village, Yuantou Township to arrest Dafa practitioner Gu Liqiang on January 18, 2004 (December 28 by Chinese Lunar Calendar). They ransacked Gu's home and took away with them Gu's computer, Falun Dafa books and a CD burner.

As of today Ms. Gu has been detained in the detention center for over a month, during which time the perpetrators still kept harassing Gu's family members.

(Clearwisdom.net) I recently moved to a small town and have had time to really calm down and look inward, and see myself clearly. Master has said,

During these few months of "cultivating alone", I have discovered a lot of xinxing [mind nature, moral quality] problems. For example, I am very concerned with how others view and judge me. This attachment is so strong that I would try to guess how another party views me, and whether his or her attitude towards me is favorable or not, from just one sentence, one expression or one look. Also, during experience sharing, if my understandings of the Fa are not appreciated by others, or if the suggestions I made were not accepted by the other party, I would think, "He will definitely not accept it. He is always prejudiced against me. He is never receptive to other's views. He is always so arrogant." I would become angrier and angrier the more I thought about it. I would then think, "If he uses harsh words with me or is unaccepting, what shall I say to rebut him?" What's more, I would be concerned with my looks, with whether the way I dress is appealing, whether or not I had attracted the attention of the opposite sex, whether someone had fallen for me, etc. Sometimes I was so carried away by the thought karma that I would unconsciously fantasize about falling in love with someone at first sight; the way we met and became lovers, and even some dirty thoughts originating from the attachment of lust would arise. I would fabricate stories in my mind and sometimes I would find it unbearable if a fellow practitioner surpassed me in some respects. I sometimes felt that I was filled with extremely intense jealousy.

I was shocked to discover that I had so many attachments. I even doubted that I had really been cultivating and elevating myself at all. I could distinctly sense that these bad thoughts were living substances. They played a negative role when I validated the Fa and caused interference and disturbance to myself and other practitioners. After studying the Fa with a calm heart, I patiently examined and scrutinized every attachment that I found and tried to find the root of it. Pursuing each attachment, I discovered that the problem originated from the attachment to "self":

Self-fulfillment from being admired; pleased with myself for obtaining affirmation from others; desiring others to feel good about myself; delighted that my opinions were approved of by others, or if I obtained concurrence. If others did not accept my views I would be indignant. Together with the attachment to lust, I was immersed in my own fantasies and the vanity of being popular with the opposite sex. "They will be quite upset if something does not agree with their way of thinking." [Zhuan Falun] The attachment to jealousy is a manifestation of being intensely attached to one's own views. Even when I was writing this article, occasionally the thought of how to prove my point of view so that the reader would accept what I had written would pop up. The attachment to "self" is so strong, stubborn, and despicable. A loophole exists here and the old forces use this excuse to interfere and cause damage; to have the environment undergo "transformation according to thoughts" [Zhuan Falun]. In this sense, the thing that is most difficult to battle against is neither the old forces nor the evil beings that they manipulate, but this degenerated "self" that was formed in the old cosmos. If I were able to give up this old self and assimilate into the Fa, the evil would not be able to find excuses to arrange tribulations.

The selfish nature of beings in the old cosmos is just like a mechanism to satisfy one's own desires: to fulfill one's goals, acting to justify one's self-worth such that one's life is always moving towards heaviness, degeneration and falling. In history, maybe our first thought of coming down here had a selfish motive; perhaps it was to let our own sentient beings have the chance to be saved; perhaps it was so that our cosmos could be rejuvenated and thus survive this tribulation, or perhaps it was for the sake of not being left behind by the whole cosmos. Whatever it was, the objective was to save oneself. The difference is that today we choose to use all of our effort to accommodate and fulfill what Master has chosen. We choose to unconditionally assimilate to Dafa, to change ourselves fundamentally, so that we will meet the standard of the new cosmos. In contrast, the old forces do not want to change themselves; they choose to make use of Master and the Fa rectification to achieve their own goal of self salvation.

What Exactly is "Self"?

In Teaching the Fa at the 2003 Atlanta Fa Conference, a practitioner asked,

This old fundamental factor from which our beings were formed has the function of restraint and contradiction in our cultivation and Fa-rectification. How do we overcome these barriers and eradicate this "self"?

From beginning to end, from personal cultivation in the past to our current Fa-rectification cultivation, we must not forget to look inwards.

Master said,

I realize that while we are continuously studying the Fa, looking inwards to discover thoughts and behavior that are not up to the standard of the Fa and rectifying them according to the Fa, and actively assimilating to the Fa, the Fa is already changing the factor of our lives layer by layer from the most fundamental factor. This is eliminating the notion of "self", so that we can reach the standard of the new cosmos. In Fa-rectification cultivation, this process of eliminating the old self is interwoven into one's validation of Dafa. We must do every single thing with the attitude of putting Dafa's needs and Master's choices in the highest position. This is the greatest degree of selflessness and compassion that we can achieve.

(Clearwisdom.net) I started to practice Falun Dafa in China in late 1998, hoping to heal my illnesses through the practice. Back then my understanding of Dafa was very shallow, and I was not diligent in studying the Fa and doing the exercises. On April 25, 1999, ten thousand Falun Gong practitioners went to Zhongnanhai (the Chinese central government compound) to peacefully appeal to the government, asking for the release of practitioners arrested in Tianjin City. However, I read from newspapers and heard on television that Falun Gong practitioners were attacking Zhongnanhai and pursuing political objectives. I thought to myself, practicing the exercises is supposed to be just doing exercises, why get into politics? Due to my limited understanding of the Fa back then, I believed the vicious propaganda and gave up practicing Falun Dafa.

In July 1999, the persecution against Falun Gong had begun, and all the government propaganda tools distributed lies and deceit everywhere. The local street committee asked me to hand in Falun Gong materials. Because I believed the propaganda and was frightened, I gave them some books, and I destroyed the books and audio cassettes that I still had at home. I even said things that were disrespectful to Master and Dafa. Many people around me also misunderstood Falun Dafa due to the propaganda.

In November 2000, I went to Singapore, and I was fortunate enough to attend the Singapore Experience Sharing Conference. After I heard the experiences of practitioners in Singapore and started to read a lot of truth clarification materials, I came to understand. I was shocked when I realized that the propaganda was all fabricated. Through the help of fellow practitioners, I once again stepped back onto the path of cultivation.

By improving myself diligently, I gradually developed a deeper understanding of the Fa. I came to experience the vastness of Dafa and the boundless compassion of Master Li in offering salvation to us. At the same time, I deeply regretted having believed in the propaganda and given up cultivation, as well as being disrespectful to Master and Dafa. I want to make this public statement now, to compensate for my wrongdoings, and also to let more and more people see the true face of the evil. I also hope that those who gave up practicing Falun Dafa as a result of the propaganda can step back into cultivation again.

Through my experience, I deeply understand the poison which the evil propaganda has placed in the minds of countless beings, as well as the importance and urgency of letting people know about the lies. Since I started to practice Falun Dafa again, I immediately joined the process of Fa-rectification. Now I do the three things Master has told us to do -- study the Fa, send forth righteous thoughts and clarify the truth. I strive to participate in the Fa-rectification through the process of clarifying the truth, including handing out flyers to people in the local community, clarifying the truth to tourist groups from China, making phone calls to China, and faxing and posting a large number of truth-clarification materials to China.

I am actually an old man, over 80 years of age now, and I have benefited tremendously during the past 3 years of cultivation in Fa-rectification. I am determined to be more diligent in the future and I hope that the Chinese people can come to learn the truth through what I do. I hope to help save more sentient beings.

(Clearwisdom.net) I am a person who has frequently made mistakes with regard to the relationship between members of the opposite sex. Although I once made up my mind to correct myself, sentiment prevailed whenever I encountered this issue. At that moment, Teacher's words would become unheeded advice to me. Teacher answered the question on the relationship between members of the opposite sex in the lecture at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference in 2003. I was shocked at that time and decided to correct all my previous mistakes and conduct myself to become a qualified Dafa disciple. However, the pain resulting from forcefully correcting my mistakes made me lose confidence in myself for a while and I was struggling, going back and forth on the sentiment.

I read several times the article "On the Relationship Between Members of the Opposite Sex and the Issue of Marriage," published by Clearwisdom editors (http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/2/2/44681.html), and I then realized that I have been regarding the extremely degenerate and corrupted standard for the relationship between man and woman in the modern society as "normal" and acceptable. It is exactly like the article has pointed out: "Those people who break the rule when it comes to relationships between members of the opposite sex frequently think that people in today's society "all behave like that" and compared to many people, they are doing pretty well." These practitioners did not apply the standard of the Fa to themselves and related the Fa that Teacher pointed out in Zhuan Falun [as being applicable] only to everyday people: "When some people do bad things and you point it out to them, they don't even believe you--they really can't believe they're doing something wrong. ..." I felt sorry for myself that even though I had studied the Fa for such a long time, I still had not assimilated to the Fa at all. Teacher has taught us everything in Zhuan Falun but due to my own attachments, I did not follow Dafa, which is the key to letting go of attachments; instead, I protected my own everyday person's mentality and attachment to tarnish Dafa's reputation. To think back, it is beyond the words "to feel ashamed" to describe what I have done in the past. I am waking up now, very thankful that Teacher has scooped me up again from hell, used the article on Clearwisdom.net to dissolve and break my attachment, and given me another opportunity to refresh and renew myself.

Teacher said, "Sometimes when I see the things that you do it really makes me sad. Yet if I were to really give up on you, that would really pain me, too. I really don't want to abandon you just like that." ("Teaching and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference") I sincerely hope that my personal experience and understanding can help awaken practitioners who have not corrected their conduct in this regard. We should no longer commit these sins like before while being muddle-headed.

I also have a new understanding regarding the issue of lust. Teacher said in Zhuan Falun, "In the ordinary world there's marital relations between husband and wife, and only with this can human beings procreate. This is how mankind goes forward." I finally understand the principle at this level that the purpose of gods allowing humans to become husband and wife is to let human beings procreate. Yet I mistakenly regarded being madly in love and becoming part of a loving couple who would die for each other as the highest manifestation of love. Why did the Fa that I had read so many times and memorized so well not reach into my mind and heart? It was my own degenerate notion of sentiment that completely misunderstood gods' original intention of arranging a relationship between husband and wife. As a person who is cultivating to become a Buddha, a Dao, or a God, if he or she is doing things to destroy this arrangement and to corrupt the morality of human beings, it is truly against the principles set by gods and is completely deviating from the Fa. For practitioners with attachments in this regard, please examine yourselves with a calm mind and decide whether you would like to follow Teacher's Fa or not. If we do have a thought to let go of these attachments, Teacher really will not abandon us! Teacher even guided and brought me, a person who was extremely attached to the sentiment between man and woman, back to the righteous path, and helped me let go of the long-lasting burden of sentiment and escape out of suffering. I believe you can do it as well!

I truly feel relieved and fortunate at this moment because we can let go of everything to which everyday people are attached.

(Clearwisdom.net) During Chinese President Hu Jintao's state visit to France, the Paris police unjustifiably detained Falun Gong practitioners on several occasions. The total number of detained practitioners was as high as several dozen. Certainly this incident occurred because of interference and manipulation by evil factors, leading to individual officials in the French government being exploited, and the French police influenced by lies that defamed Dafa. We can utilize this event to identify where we need to further clarify the truth, so that we can convert the negative impact into a positive influence. However, from the standpoint of individual cultivation, the practitioners involved in this event should search inside immediately, and examine if there was any fault in their xinxing [mind nature, moral character] or anything that has not been done well throughout the course of this incident.

A portion of the practitioners did not resist the groundless police arrest at all. They were taken to the police station to fill in forms or records. Master Li said in the Fa-Lecture During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference:

Some practitioners claimed that the situation in France was not the same as that in China. Essentially, however, aren't both equivalent to making a compromise with the evil? After these practitioners were released from the police station, they complained that the French police were really bad. Such a remark completely treats this incident as a human persecution against humans. Master said:

It does not matter if the actions of the French police were completely unjustifiable or if some articles of the so-called "laws" were available to justify their actions, we should not have let them arrest and detain us at will. Truth clarification is an act of enormous mercy, why should we be arrested and taken to the police station because of it? Of course, we do not resort to overreacting in our actions or statements. We have to clearly understand that by doing what they have done, the French police have failed to take responsibility for their future, and we should help them by clarifying the truth.

The following is what actually happened to several practitioners, including myself, when we encountered the police in Paris. I have written it down, hoping that it may be enlightening to fellow practitioners.

It was around 10:30 in the morning on January 25th. Several practitioners, including myself, left the hotel for the Chinese Embassy in France to attend activities as planned. When we were in the vicinity of the Embassy, several French policemen came over and stopped us. A policeman pointed to a patch of ground and demanded that all of the practitioners stand there. Then he summoned more policemen with his radio and told us that we would be sent to a police station. With righteousness a practitioner asked him why. The policeman replied it was French law. The practitioner asked, "What law, which article?" Another policeman pushed the practitioner. As he did so, the policeman kept saying irrationally, "I am the law! I am the law!" I was astonished by the policeman's remark. I looked at the other policemen around me. They did not dare to look me in the face as they knew they were in an indefensible position.

We had already heard that the day before, because they were handing out truth materials on the street, several practitioners were taken to a police station and detained for an extended period of time. I thought that we should not cooperate with the evil behind the police's actions any longer. We are Dafa disciples, and we should not have to go to places like the police station. What was happening closely resembled the unjustifiable arrest of practitioners by the German police when Jiang Zemin visited Germany. We ought to stay calm so that we can avoid making the same mistake.

At that moment, Master's words appeared in my mind, "Clarifying the truth is the master key". Holding several leaflets in my hand, that explained the facts of the persecution of Falun Dafa, I started explaining the facts to the policemen beside me. I pointed to one of the photos on the flyer, which showed the wounds of a Chinese practitioner. I made eye-contact with the policemen, and told them in a sincere tone, "Look, this kind of persecution is happening in China." I pointed to another photo showing a practitioner sitting peacefully in meditation. I told all of them that all we wanted to do in front of the Chinese Embassy was a peaceful appeal like that. I noticed that their serious facial expressions started to ease up.

A practitioner called the activity coordinator, and was told that we did not have permission for holding activities at the Chinese Embassy. By this time, more than ten policemen had arrived there. They lined up shoulder-to-shoulder and walked forward, trying to force us to back off from the Chinese Embassy. Practitioners sensed that even if they had not obtained permission, what the French police did was still an infringement of human rights.

Therefore, almost all of the practitioners on the scene started to take some action. One practitioner pointed to a photo that showed a tortured Chinese practitioner and told a policeman, "Look, this is my friend who is persecuted in China." The policeman looked at the photo, and asked, "Your friend?" The hostility shown on the policeman's face a few minutes before was almost gone. Another practitioner gave a truth-clarification flyer to a French passer-by. In English, which he barely knew, the practitioner said, "France, no human rights." This was the most straightforward, on-site exposure of the evil that hid behind the police. A French citizen passed by me. He looked at the policemen and us, wondering what was happening. I gave him a flyer and told him that the French police would not let us pass through the street. Another practitioner argued with a policeman, trying not to back off. The police fiercely pushed him. Two nearby practitioners photographed this scene. Another practitioner took pictures of the way the police dispelled the practitioners. These photos can be used in truth clarification in the future.

With the thought that the way the French police had treated Dafa disciples would bring a negative impact to their future, I took truth materials and walked towards the most arrogant policeman. I pointed at the photo and talked to him calmly and politely, "Sir, these people are being persecuted in China." I truly felt that it is our compassion that the evil fears most. The policeman looked at the photo, and then turned his head to dodge my eyesight. He muttered to himself, "I may or may not agree with what you say. But that has nothing to do with this."

Many practitioners on the scene did not cooperate with the evil. In the end, we were led to the nearest underground station, not the police station. At the underground entrance, I clarified truth to an undercover policeman. With a smile he said, "Falun Gong, I know, I know." Inside the underground station, another practitioner also explained a lot of details about the persecution to a policeman. Finally, we caught the underground to another place where activities were being held.

We would like to remind fellow practitioners to be diligent in self-cultivation and sending forth righteous thoughts. When the second parade ended, a practitioner said, "For such a large-scale activity with the participation of so many practitioners, we didn't send forth righteous thoughts before the activity took place. After forming the characters of 'Falun Dafa' beneath the Eiffel Tower in the evening, we failed again to send forth righteous thought sharply on the hour. The activity has become one held by everyday people." Maybe his statement is a little one-sided, but it points out some of our shortcomings that may have become factors subsequently interfered with by the evil.

(Clearwisdom.net, March 26, 2004) Recently, Swedish Falun Gong practitioners held an activity in the small but beautiful city of Uddevalla to let the local people know about Falun Gong and the brutal persecution against the practice, which has been happening for almost five years in China. Normally it is cold in Sweden at this time of year, but on the day of the activity, the weather was like spring. Practitioners handed out flyers and collected petition signatures from passersby. Some people were very interested in Falun Gong and even started learning the exercises on the spot.

Swedish practitioners will continue to hold activities in Uddevalla to promote Falun Gong and let the local residents know about the genocide against practitioners in China.

Falun Gong practitioners in the university took this opportunity to introduce Falun Gong and expose the persecution of Falun Gong in China.

Falun Gong practitioners hung an eye-catching banner with the words "Falun Dafa is Great" in front of their booth. Many people who passed the booth read the words aloud. A student riding a bike couldn't help shouting it aloud, "Falun Dafa is great! Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance are great!" Many people stopped by to ask for more information about Falun Gong and how to learn it.

A visitor from Shandong Province of mainland China took a lot of truth clarification materials from the booth. He said, "I've come abroad to see what is happening in the world."

Policemen of the university happily accepted truth clarification materials and expressed their support for Falun Gong. Many high school students were also interested in Falun Gong and expressed their support. They said with a smile, "Our teacher also practices Falun Gong."

Falun Gong practitioners practiced the five sets of exercises next to the booth. Many people were fascinated with the exercises and peaceful music. It was just as the saying goes, 'The Buddha-light illuminates everywhere and rectifies all abnormalities."

Following the tradition of composing words with flowers along Coconut Tree Avenue, Falun Gong practitioners composed "Falun Dafa is Great" along a high-traffic section of the road. Many people stopped and read aloud, "Falun Dafa is Great."

At noon on March 13, Falun Gong practitioners performed five pieces of music written themselves on a stage. Before the performance, one practitioner not only introduced how Falun Gong had changes people's view of life and made people more tolerant and kind, but also told the audience that it was fortunate for Taiwanese could learn the truth about Falun Gong without the influence of the deceitful propaganda from mainland China. He hoped people would tell others that Falun Dafa is great and that the persecution of Falun Gong by Jiang's group is wrong.

As the music started, the audience quieted down. Immersed in the peaceful music, everyone listened closely to what Falun Gong practitioners were singing and what they said between songs.

Falun Gong practitioners involved in this activity feel it was a great success. They were very encouraged by people's sincere smiles after learning the truth about Falun Gong.

(Clearwisdom.net) On March 20, Falun Gong practitioners in North Carolina went to introduce Falun Dafa to students in North Carolina School of Math and Science, one of the best high schools in the state. Students in this school were selected from all over the state. A teenage Falun Gong practitioner happens to go to this school and arranged for this activity at the school's Asian Culture Festival, hoping more people will learn about Falun Gong.

Falun Gong practitioners set up an exhibition tent at the open area in front of the school cafeteria. They offered truth clarification materials, VCDs, as well as Chinese candies and pastries at the booth. Some practitioners demonstrated the Falun Gong exercises.

As students passed the booth at dinner time, teenaged Falun Gong practitioners passed out pretty bookmarks with the words "Falun Dafa is Great" and "The World Needs Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance." Students liked the colorful hand-made lotus flowers. Many students visited the booth and some of them wanted to learn Falun Gong.
