(Clearwisdom.net) On the afternoon of April 25, 2004, more than forty Falun Gong practitioners rallied in Zhongshan Park in Montreal's Chinatown to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Falun Gong's peaceful appeal on April 25, 1999.

The practitioners at the rally introduced the facts of the peaceful appeal. On April 25, 1999, over ten thousand Falun Gong practitioners went to China's National Appeal Office because two days previously Tianjin City Police had beaten up and arrested 45 Falun Gong practitioners who were peacefully appealing. This open violence showed that the suppression of Falun Gong had intensified after several years in which Falun Gong had been slandered in the state run media.

The practitioners stated that the appeal of 4-25 set a good example for communication between the people and government. A large number of people pursuing Truthfulness Compassion Tolerance peacefully and rationally appealed to the government. The government responded by agreeing to not interfere with the people's practice and immediately released the arrested practitioners.

But Jiang Zemin, aiming to eradicate Falun Gong, used this event as an excuse to persecute Falun Gong, exaggerating it as "Falun Gong surrounding and attacking Zhongnanhai (the central government compound)." He then established the "610 office" to be in charge of persecution of Falun Gong. The eradication policy that started on July 20, 1999 has resulted in 953 deaths, and hundreds of thousands jailed, forced into labor camps, and homeless. The persecution also extended to their colleagues, relatives and friends. Because all the people are forced to participate in the persecution, the policy jeopardizes the entire society.

From 4PM to 5PM, a symbolic trial was held of Jiang Zemin. The public prosecutor described Jiang's policy of genocide and his crimes against humanity. Four witnesses gave their testimony to the court that Chinese police fabricated evidence regarding the so-called "surrounding and attacking Zhongnanhai". The testimony revealed that the 4-25 event was the inevitable consequence of Jiang Zemin's personal will to persecute Falun Gong.

A lawsuit against Jiang Zemin has also been launched in Canada. Art Professor Zhang Kunlun, who was rescued from a Chinese labor camp by the Canadian government, wrote to the Canada Justice Department asking for permission to sue 22 responsible people who forced him to give up practicing Falun Gong and tortured him, including police guards in the forced labor camp, Luo Gan (head of National 610 Office), and Jiang Zemin.
