(Clearwisdom.net) A brainwashing session was held in September 2002 at the Chuanxi Female Prison, Sichuan Province, specially designed to force Falun Dafa practitioners to renounce their belief using brutal means. Falun Dafa practitioners detained in the prison for practicing Falun Dafa refused to agree they were criminals, and refused to wear the ID badge for prisoners. The guards made all Falun Dafa practitioners run laps around the exercise yard. Any practitioner who was not physically able to run laps was instead required to write a "criminal reporting statement" admitting they were criminals, in order to be granted permission to be excused from running laps. Since Falun Dafa practitioners live according to a high moral standard, writing this type of statement was the same as lying, something a Dafa practitioner would not do nor renounce their belief in Falun Dafa. As a result, of not agreeing to write the statement, practitioners instead had to keep running laps until they were at the point of total physical exhaustion.

Ms. Gao Hongxiang, a Falun Dafa practitioner, was forced to run laps for a eight straight hours without a break by guards using this physical exhaustion tactic. She didn't write the statement or renounce her belief in Falun Dafa. On the second day, the prisoners were directed to kick and hit her while they dragged her around the exercise yard to keep her "running" laps. Then the police locked her in a solitary compartment and used a torture known as "tying the ropes" (1) on her, causing her to faint several times. The prisoner who guarded her was under orders by the guards to torture her in this way. To force her to cooperate with them, the authorities threatened to deprive her of food. They tried to force Ms Gao Hongxiang to write a guarantee to give up Falun Gong. The Prison District Supervisor named Gao forcibly shaved her hair into a style known as the "yin-yang head" (2). He exclaimed, "Now you are a criminal!"

Another practitioner, Ms. Zhang Qiongfang, was secretly brought to the solitary compartment. Prison District Supervisor Wang, District Supervisor Gao and Sectional Chief He tortured her using the method of "tying the ropes" for more than three hours. They also struck her in the face and on the arms. District Supervisor Gao forcibly shaved her hair into the "yin-yang head."

Ms. Zhang Hongqiong, a practitioner, was locked in a solitary compartment and they "tied the ropes" on her. She fainted many times. They forcibly shaved her hair into the "yin-yang head."

Ms. Jiang Nianli was locked in a solitary compartment. She was "cuffed and hung up" (3) there for nearly a month.

Ms. Liu Daiqiong (phonetic) kept on practicing Falun Gong in prison. She was punished and forced to stand from 6 a.m. in the morning until 11 p.m. in the evening, each and every day for three months consecutively (4).

Ms. Feng Jing, another practitioner, was locked in the solitary compartment. The police "tied the ropes" on her and "cuffed and hung (her) up." Feng protested against it with a hunger strike. She was force fed, which caused her to suffer from acute pneumonia. She was in critical condition and sent to a hospital. The hospital issued twice the "Critically Ill Notice" that certifies that a patient is at the brink of death. She survived the emergency treatment in Yaan District Hospital.

Ms. Zhu Mingrong and Ms. Zhang Hongqiong, both practitioners, refused to give the "criminal reporting statement" in 2003. The police punished not only them, but also the other prisoners in their rooms by forcing them to stand for a long time. None of them were allowed to eat or sleep. Zhu Mingrong's roommates beat her at night. The guards even ordered another prisoner, Qiu Youqing (phonetic), who suffered from psychosis, to beat Zhang Hongqiong. The guards claimed that Qiu, a psychotic patient, could kill without violating the law.

Ms. Luo Fang is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Leshan, Sichuan Province. She had planned to go abroad after graduation from college. She had finished the relevant procedures. However, she was kidnapped and sent to the detention center before she could leave. Luo was pregnant. She became extremely weak after being persecuted in the detention center. The policemen feared that she would die there, so they released her. Luo miscarried after getting home. The police arrested her again and sentenced her to Chuanxi Female Prison.

Luo Fang kept on practicing Falun Gong in the prison. The police assigned four prisoners to guard her. She was almost paralyzed after much horrible torture. She was unable to move. She recently began a hunger strike to protest the torture.

Another Falun Dafa practitioner, Ms. Liang Hua, was caught by the prisoners guarding her after reciting Falun Gong articles quietly. She was beaten for an hour. The other practitioners heard of this the second day. They began a group hunger strike to request punishment of the assailants.

Many prisoners, including Yang Guying, Jiang Quanzhi (phonetic) and so on, who were used by the police, had their sentences reduced.

Ms. Liu Ying, another practitioner, was imprisoned in Chuanxi Female Prison. Her term of imprisonment expired in 2002. The police feared that their atrocities would be exposed. To keep her silent they illegally extended her term for another 3 years, and transferred her to Sichuan Provincial Female Prison in Sichuan Province.

Ms. Zhang Hongqiong, a practitioner, tore a slanderous poster off the wall in April 2002. The police locked up eight other practitioners who refused to make the "criminal reporting statement." They put Ms. Zhang Hongqiong in a solitary compartment. The others were put in solitary compartments or small cells individually (5). The other practitioners were Ms. Jiang Nianli, Ms. Zhang Qiongfang, Ms. Su Nan, Ms. Wang Jianhui, Ms. Zhang Zhiqin, Ms. Hu Hui, Ms. Chen Xiping (sound) and Ms. Yao Yuanzhen. The police "tied the ropes" on them and "cuffed and hung (them) up" individually. This excruciating torture lasted for as long as five months or more.

Ms. Zhang Zhiqin (phonetic) was tortured by "tying the ropes." The police shackled her hands behind her back. Before this, the police and the prisoners who were under orders from the police beat her because she continued to practice Falun Gong. They kept her outside with only a shirt on in the freezing cold winter. She went on a hunger strike for forty-five days to protest against the persecution in prison. She was later transferred to the Provincial Female Prison.

Ms. Wang Jianhui and Ms. Zhang Qiongfang had been tortured by "tying the ropes" and they were also "cuffed and hung up" for more than two weeks. They suffered this torture for so long that they were unable to walk for a long time afterwards.

Ms. Zhang Hongqiong and Ms Chen Xiping (phonetic) were also "cuffed and hung up". They protested against it with hunger strike and were force-fed (6) by police.

Here is a partial list of the evil people in the 12th District, Chuanxi Female Prison, Sichuan Province.

District Supervisor: Wang Yaxin, Gao Mei
Sectional Chief: He Qunfang, Wang Xueping, Zhou Lin
Staff: Zhao Hongmei, Chen Jianmei, Chen Wei, Chen Xiu
Prisoners: Yang Guiying, Qiu Youqing (phonetic), Jiang Quanzhi (phonetic)

(1) Tie the ropes: The police tie up the practitioner with a thin rope. Then they circle the rope around her neck, and tie her hands behind her back. Then the police would use all the force they could muster to tighten the rope. The rope becomes tighter and tighter around the body of the practitioner, and makes it more and more difficult for him to breathe. The pain is so intense that the practitioner sometimes loses control of his bladder. There are instances when the rope was tightened enough to break a practitioner's arm.

(2) Yin-yang head: Shave off all one's hair on only one side of the head. It is considered an insult.

(3) Cuffed and hung up: With both hands cuffed, both feet off or only toes touching the ground, one is hung onto the basketball support or the beam of the house with the handcuff. The hands and arms will soon become prickly and numb.

(4) Punishment by forcing the victim to stand for a long time: the victim has to stand, facing a wall all day long except for the time spent eating, sleeping and using the toilet, from the time s/he rises at 5 a.m. until 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. the next morning when s/he is allowed to go to bed. This abuse usually lasts several days. If someone cannot withstand the intensity of prolonged standing and loses consciousness, the guards will then force-feed him or her with drugs.

(5) Lock up in a small cell: The detainee is locked up in a very small cell individually. The guards handcuff practitioners on their back in a fixed position, in which the practitioners can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and no sunshine comes in. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked up in a small cell during the daytime. During the night the rats are running around. The stench in the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.

(6) Force-feed: a brutal punishment used in prison. They force a tube down into her throat and then putting mush or fluids down it. The tube closes off the airway into the throat and suffocates the victims. Because the food or fluid being forced down is not going down the normal way, it further closes the throat as the important initial swallowing muscles are bypassed and the body cannot sent it further down. Many have died of force-feeding.
