The Arrest of an Excellent Teacher and a Doctor from Duyun City, Guizhou Province

(Clearwidsom.net) On the afternoon of March 8, 2004, the Duyun City Gantang Town police, lead by police station head Zhao Yuming, arrested Falun Gong practitioner Wu Chunmei as she was on her way home. Her bother, Dr. Wu, a doctor at the clinic affiliated with the No. 540 Factory was also under arrest, along with their elderly father, arrested at home, and her sister, arrested at her vegetable selling stand. Her sister's five-year-old daughter was left out alone at the vegetable stand. The little girl was crying and picking up the vegetables scattered around after the arrest. That night, police head Zhao Yuming and others broke into her sister's home and searched the house and confiscated the family's personal property.

Ms. Wu Chunmei is an excellent Chinese language teacher from the No. 540 Factory Middle School. After she started practicing Falun Gong, she always kept "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Tolerance" in mind and has enjoyed high praise from her colleagues and the school board. After she was captured, police officer Zhao Yuming came to the school and reported the incident. The board explained, "Teacher Wu is the teacher of the class that will be graduating in three to four months. The students in her class are preparing for a high school entrance exam. We really need her back." The police, however, showed no willingness to bend at all.

Dr. Wu was captured at home. On the way to the police station he shouted, "Falun Gong is great!" "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Tolerance is great!" During the arrest, Dr. Wu and the police were surrounded by a large crowd. Some talked quietly among themselves, and others showed sadness over the whole incident and had tears in their eyes. Dr. Wu always likes to help others. Some of the residents who live near the factory are poor. Sometimes they could not afford to pay for their medication. When that happened, Dr. Wu would pay the bill out of his own pocket. Sometimes he would spend a big portion of his monthly salary to help others.

Why are such good people being persecuted? The Wu family's bitter experience stirred the whole factory and the news even spread out into the city, making people think deeply about the nature of the persecution.
