Ms. Zhang Yanrong, an Engineer, Is Sentenced to Nine Years of Imprisonment for Practicing Falun Gong

(Clearwisdom.net) On September 29, 2002 the Jinniu Police Station of Chengdu City Public Security Bureau abducted Ms. Zhang Yanrong from Chengdu City. They handcuffed her and hung her by the handcuffs to interrogate her for 7-8 days without letting her sleep. Later she was transferred to the Pixian County Detention Center of Chengdu City for an extended period of time. After much suffering in the detention center, she was illegally sentenced to nine years in prison in February 2003.

Ms. Zhang Yanrong, 41, lived in the company residence of Chengdu Aircraft Industry Inc. at Huangtianba, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. She was an engineer with the company.

In July 1992 she had a stroke and was close to being paralyzed, even after being treated at the hospital. At that time, she was not quite 30 years old, while her child was just about one year old. The family was in great financial difficulty, having spent a lot of money on her medical problems. To make matters worse, she was found to have problems with her heart. She could not look after herself and was told she could die at anytime. In November 1995, she started to practice Falun Gong.

One week after she began the practice, she felt much better. She was on her way to recovery.

Not only did Falun Dafa relieve Ms. Zhang of her suffering, it also brought peace to her family. The anxiety and stress disappeared and their financial problems lessened. Her family, neighbors, and colleagues witnessed the magic and beauty of Falun Dafa through the changes in Ms. Zhang. They knew that Falun Dafa gave her a second chance in life.

However, Jiang and his followers began persecuting Falun Gong while ignoring the benefits that Falun Gong had brought to the citizens. Ms. Zhang Yanrong went to Beijing to appeal in December 1999. As soon as she got off the train, she was abducted by the police and sent back to the Chengdu Detention Center. Her employer, under pressure from higher authorities, and fearful of being implicated, forced Ms. Zhang to write a note of self-criticism which enabled them to deduct money from her salary and bonuses even though she continued to work there. She barely received one hundred yuan monthly, minus expenses for water, electricity, and natural gas. They used these tactics to force Ms. Zhang to give up the practice. She was forced to resign from her job in 2000.

On September 29, 2002 Ms. Zhang did not come home as expected. Her family was very worried. They learned that local police had abducted her while she was visiting a friend at Chengdu City Jinxi Garden. After being tortured in Chengdu City, Pi County, she received a 9-year sentence.

We appeal to all kind-hearted people to pay attention to those who are being illegally jailed, to stop the brutalities that trample on our human rights, and to help secure the release of Ms. Zhang Yanrong and other imprisoned practitioners.
