(Clearwisdom.net) On May 8th and 9th, 2004, Falun Dafa practitioners in Seattle held activities in Chinatown and the center of the city respectively. They displayed posters, clarified the truth to Chinese people as well as Westerners, and demonstrated Falun Gong exercises, so as to celebrate the fifth World Falun Dafa Day and the 12th anniversary of Falun Gong's introduction to the public.

Local practitioners had been clarifying the truth of Falun Gong in these two locations every weekend; therefore many passersby already knew the truth. When they passed the posters again, they took the initiative to tell their family members and friends about Falun Gong and the persecution against Falun Gong in China. Many people signed the petition asking the Governor to uphold justice for Falun Gong.

(Clearwisdom.net) On the lawn of the famous Sydney Darling Harbor, Falun Gong practitioners held an event to celebrate World Falun Dafa Day on May 13. This is the second large-scale event held by practitioners in one week. On May 8, 2004, practitioners from Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Tasmania, Perth and Sydney held a large-scale parade in Sydney's Chinatown to recount the great and peaceful journey of Falun Dafa. More than 100 Falun Gong practitioners participated in the event at Darling Harbor. The event program included large scale Falun Gong exercise demonstration and cultural performances. Some practitioners also went on to the stage to share their own and their relatives' benefits from practicing Falun Gong. From the bottom of their heart, they presented one unanimous heartfelt message: "Falun Dafa is Good"

(Clearwisdom.net) May the 13th 2004 was the 5th World Falun Dafa Day. It was also the 12^th anniversary since Falun Dafa was made public in China.

In order to celebrate this great day, practitioners from Gothenburg, Lerum and Nossebro gathered in the Kings Sport Square in the center of Gothenburg to inform people about Falun Dafa and the persecution of those who practice it in China by exhibiting posters, playing music, singing songs and distributing balloons and folded paper lotus flowers.

It was a nice day and there were a lot of people on the street. With great curiosity, they walked around us to read the posters, listen to the songs, watch the exercises and talk to us. Many of them stayed with us for quite a while. Some of them sat at the table and learned how to make paper lotus flowers.

(Clearwisdom.net) On May 6, 2004, Mayor Kay Barnes of Kansas City, Missouri acknowledged the growing popularity of Falun Gong in the United States, and proclaimed May 13-20, 2004, as Falun Dafa Week in Kansas City, Missouri.

(Clearwisdom.net) On May 10, 2004, Pennsylvania State House Representative Mario J Civera, Jr. wrote to practitioners to congratulate them on the 12^th anniversary of Falun Gong's introduction to the public.

(Clearwisdom.net) On the 30th of April 2004, UK member of the European Parliament Chris Davies wrote to Falun Gong practitioners in his constituency and enclosed a signed petition entitled, "Keep Liberty in France", which states the he "deeply regrets that the French government bowed to Chinese pressure, acted against the French values of liberty, equality, fraternity and arbitrarily arrested peaceful people who in no way had disturbed public order." The incident he referred to happened during the Chinese President's visit to Paris. The French authorities acted under Chinese pressure to arrest Falun Gong practitioners who were distributing leaflets exposing the brutal persecution in China, or were even simply walking in the street wearing yellow scarves with "Falun Gong" written on them. Mr. Davies MEP demanded that French authorities investigate the allegations and apologize to the victims unreservedly.

In China, a propaganda campaign is not needed to prove why people should fight corruption, because people have had personal experience of the harm caused by corruption.

A campaign to convince the public to eradicate drugs, gambling, organized crime and prostitution is not needed, because people have personally experienced the harm they have imposed on society.

Even less needed is a campaign to fight deceptive and fraudulent trade because people themselves have been the victims of such practices.

The government does not need to explain why the targets of the aforementioned campaigns are bad, because the general public agrees, on legal and moral grounds, that they should be eradicated. The campaign organizers can proceed with their efforts without having to justify them .

With regard to the persecution of Falun Gong, however, Jiang Zemin's group has been trying repeatedly for the past few years to convince the people of one thing, e.g., that Falun Gong is "not good." This is not working, because Falun Gong of course IS good.

Jiang Zemin's persecution of Falun Gong is based on the following slogans: "Destroys the Party and the Country," "Damages Society," "Harms Lives" "Damages the Country and Its People," and "Endangers Our Country's Security and Our People's Peaceful Existence." People who are familiar with China's political movements all know that these empty and intimidating "labels" simply express the persecutor's eagerness to put those being persecuted to death.

Introduced to the public in 1992, tens of millions of people from all walks of life had taken up the practice of Falun Gong by 1999. If it were as terrible as Jiang Zemin's lies indicated, if it were truly "endangering the country's safety and peoples' peaceful lives" and adversely affecting the "life and death of the nation," it should be easy to demonstrate the validity of the claims. Why had tens of millions of people been turning a blind eye to such a big "disaster"? Instead, the government has been squandering its resources for the past five years to repeatedly attempt to instill the idea in the mind of the public that Falun Gong has been causing damage.

The reason is very simple: Falun Gong does not pose any harm to society at all. On the contrary, by practicing Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, a person becomes healthy, enjoys a happy and harmonious family life, gets along better with his neighbors, works diligently but does not complain, does not take bribes or graft, is honest, sincere, kind, forbearing and conciliatory--this is the impression people have had of Falun Gong practitioners in their daily lives.

It is indeed very difficult to prove that a "good thing" is actually a "bad thing," let alone to prove that it is a "most terrible thing that endangers everyone." Therefore, Jiang Zemin's group has had to repeat their lies over and over again.

In the early stage of the persecution they unleashed a massive bombardment of lies on TV and in the newspapers. Later, they came up with scandal-mongering, sensational cases like "suicides," "self-immolations" and "murders" to make slanderous remarks and ridiculous exaggerations. If you asked a person who claimed that Falun Gong was not good why he thought so, he would tell you, "That's what the TV and the newspaper said."

Obviously, the government has had to campaign vigorously to instill resentment and hatred in people whose real life experiences tell them otherwise.

Exactly because Jiang Zemin's persecution is based on the media's false fabrications, as soon as the rumors stopped, Jiang's group began to feel that the "rationale" to maintain the persecution was weak and powerless. In the face of Falun Gong practitioners' rational and peaceful truth-clarification, Jiang's group felt even more desperate and hopeless about the future.

The government still depends on the mouthpiece media to massively and directly fabricate lies, and people have gotten bored. In 2001 the so-called "Million Signature Campaign" was implemented in schools. This year Jiang Zemin's group has again extended its underhanded means to school students by aggressively launching the so-called "Anti-Falun Gong Campaign."

The scope of this campaign extends from the countryside to the cities, from elementary to middle and high schools, to every alley and street, and from flourishing coastal cities like Beijing and Shanghai to the Xinjiang Military Construction Army Troops.

The thrust of this campaign is both visual and participatory. Pre-designed, pre-approved posters are posted on school bulletin boards and in school newspapers. Propaganda movies, videos and pictures are exhibited to the students, who are truly "captive" audiences. Signature collection events, essay competitions, lectures, quiz competitions, book and picture exhibitions, popular science exhibitions, and themed meetings are scheduled. Promotional editorial columns are printed, and the students are organized to go out on the streets to spread propaganda by distributing VCD's, CD's and flyers.

Zhejiang Province's Wenling educational system came up with a Great-Leap-Forward style slogan: "Achieve the goal of educating one student to influence one family and the entire society."

The Central Party Political Ministry Committee even sent out notices to request brainwashing elementary and middle school students in order to impact students' parents, openly using students as tools to slander Falun Gong throughout the entire country.

The central government delivered part of this campaign's promotional materials free of charge, but part had to be shouldered by the local finance bureaus. In the Xiangxi Autonomous Region of Hunan Province, for example, in addition to the government-supplied free materials for the "Anti-Falun Gong Campaign," the local government spent two hundred thousand yuan to print propaganda materials.

These propaganda materials contain only slanderous comments and fabrications, in particular, about the staged self-immolation in Tiananmen Square. Many times Falun Gong practitioners have intercepted China's satellite TV system to broadcast "the truth of the staged self-immolation," which panicked Jiang Zemin's group. Many practitioners who were involved were tortured to death. Others received severe sentences and were subjected to all sorts of torture.

Jiang Zemin has taken advantage of school students by imposing upon their already busy schedule a well documented, well programmed, and carefully crafted system to instill these fabricated lies and justify the government's systematic persecution.

The so-called "Falun Gong issue" is a product of Jiang Zemin's unpredictable emotional outbreaks fueled by his jealousy and his concern for personal power. There are all sorts of different societal conflicts in China, but Jiang Zemin's "Falun Gong issue" has never been one of them.

During this year's Two Party Meetings, CCTV International conducted a survey of the most important issue to viewers. The results: Corruption was the most important to 17% of those surveyed, the Three Agriculture-related Issues 15%, unreasonable educational costs 12%, the social welfare system 11%, judicial integrity 10%, minimizing the gap between cities and rural areas 6%, the others are: protection of personal property, public safety, economic reform, government-run businesses reform and public order and safety.

On the Internet the Beijing Economics Reference Newspaper and Xinhua Net conducted a joint survey of the Two Party Meetings issues. The ten issues the Chinese Internet users were most concerned about were: corruption, farmers' income, unbalanced regional development and income gaps, unreasonable educational costs, how to break through the monopolization in the telecommunications and railroad industries, public order and safety, further improvement of social welfare, job employment and re-employment, surplus farm workers' legal benefits and how to protect them, and Taiwan's public vote.

The "Anti-Falun Gong Campaign" targets young people. What then are young people most concerned with?

According to a large-scale survey conducted by Beijing's Meilande Information Company on young people in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Xiamen and Qingdao, the top ten issues that most concern today's young people are: economic reform (47%), Taiwan's situation (46%), public order and safety (40%), education (36%), corruption (34%), social welfare (30%), environment (29%), unemployment and re-employment (25%), moral standards (25%) and traffic (15%).

At Shanghai's Education Committee request, Fudan University conducted the "2002-03 Shanghai College Students' Development Report." These college students are most concerned with employment (74.6%), choices and challenges after China's entering the WTO (34.8%), and corruption (24.8%).

Of all the surveys, none has anything to do with the "damage" Jiang Zemin claims has been caused by Falun Gong. For the past several years Jiang and Jiang's group have made up numerous lies, but they have not been able to wipe out Falun Gong, putting them in an awkward dilemma. Now they are trying to pass on their awkward dilemma to the people, school students included.

Psychological problems are becoming a serious issue for young people in China today. Currently there are sixteen million mental patients in China. Mental illness ranks as the number one "disease" in China's entire patient population. There are about thirty million adolescents under the age of 17 who are troubled by emotional and behavioral problems. However, there is an unparalleled phenomenon: at present the number of people with an awareness of mental health and mental disease prevention comprises less than 30% of the people. Juvenile drug addiction has also become a serious problem. More and more young people are becoming addicted to computer games ("electronic heroin") which adversely affects their health. China's AIDS epidemic has become more severe. Sexually transmitted diseases mainly affect juvenile populations between the ages of 15 and 24.

Jiang's group controls the country's educational system. Rather than truly paying attention to young people's development, Jiang Zemin has abused the educational system by devoting manpower and resources into slandering and defaming Falun Gong among young people in an effort to create hatred. To society, this is a waste. To the average person and to school students, this is a crime.

Today's school students are faced with multiple pressures: human relationships and character development, their learning and academics, dealing with their parents and the future, economic realities, and their health.

Their teachers are all aware of the fact that students who practice Falun Gong follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance in their personal conduct and are good students, which is very beneficial to their mental health and very helpful when they are faced with so many kinds of pressure. Practicing Falun Gong is a real plus, not only for the individual but also for the school and for society. The so-called "Falun Gong issue" has been forcefully imposed upon people from higher authorities since 1999. Schools have had to organize activities to expose Falun Gong practitioners and collect signatures. The "Anti-Falun Gong Campaign" has mobilized additional resources and continues to poison the minds of school students.

The "Anti-Falun Gong Campaign" mainly uses "scientific" explanations to undermine people's faith.

Everyone knows that in the West, as important as science is, religion continues to exist and plays a very active and positive role in society.

Jiang Zemin once asked the president of the United States, "In the West where science is so advanced, why do people still believe in religion?" This is exactly what Jiang Zemin doesn't understand.

When President Bush visited China in 2002, he made the following remarks in a lecture he gave at Beijing's Qinghua University, "America is a nation guided by faith. Someone once called us 'a nation with the soul of a church.' Ninety-five percent of Americans say they believe in God, and I'm one of them." "Freedom of religion is not something to be feared but to be welcomed, because faith gives us a moral core and teaches us to hold ourselves to high standards, to love and serve others, and to live responsible lives." " For centuries, this country had a tradition of religious tolerance. My prayer is that all persecution will end, so that all in China are free to gather and worship as they wish."

Jiang Zemin's group not only persecutes the belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, but also incites hatred in the entire society and especially among young people, twisting science to use it as a tool to blaspheme Gods and oppose Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance. Young people are not the only ones who have been victimized. China's whole future is falling victim to this persecution.

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Feng Guoguang, forty-three years old, was the mayor of Xiling Township in Yi County, Baoding City, Hebei Province. He was barbarically force-fed on January 25, 2002 while unlawfully detained at Baoding City Forced Labor Camp for refusing to renounce his practice of Falun Dafa. On January 26 he was tortured again with another forced-feeding. At 8:00 p.m. Feng Guoguang started to continuously vomit blood. He was sent to the hospital and treated for ten days. Feng Guoguang was then in critical condition. The police saw that his condition was critical, but he was still breathing. In order to escape responsibility for his death, they allowed his family members to take him home. Subsequently, Feng Guoguang passed away as a result of the torture he received in the labor camp. Policeman Li Dayong had uttered publicly to Falun Gong practitioners not just once that, "If practitioners die (from the tortures), they died in vain." On two other occasions, he told another Falun Gong practitioner that, "You also dare to use a hunger strike to protest! You will be force-fed until you die, too!" Prison doctor Mr. Du performed the brutal force-feedings of Feng Guoguang, knowing that the purpose was to cause as much pain and suffering as possible.

(Clearwisdom.net) Xu Lihua, Director of the Changle Forced Labor Camp in Weifang City, Shandong Province, and Zou Jintian, Deputy Director in charge of persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners, made several efforts to get a contract with the Linqu County Hongye Group. The Hongye Group is a Chinese-American joint venture that produces hand-woven rugs and exports them to the U.S. The labor camp authorities force Dafa practitioners to weave rugs in a heavily polluted environment. The practitioners have to work more than twelve hours a day, and they barely have time to take a bath or wash their clothes. Except for a three-day break during the Chinese New Year, they are not allowed to have any other holidays or even time off on the weekends. In addition to the intensive labor, Dafa practitioners' meals are prepared using the cheapest and lowest quality ingredients, and the food is difficult to eat. Therefore, a lot of practitioners are forced to barely survive on supplemental food sent by their families. The intense work and terrible food dramatically damages practitioners' health, and they have become weak and emaciated. On top of that, they often suffer brutal torture from the police.

The Hongye Group cooperates with the Changle Labor Camp to exploit Dafa practitioners for the purpose of weaving rugs, and in the process they have followed and become assistants to the evil force that persecutes Falun Dafa. We sincerely hope that the responsible parties can realize the mistake they have made and stop supporting the evil.

(Clearwisdom.net) In January 2000, one of my relatives, an officer from the Fuzhou Military District in Fujian Province, came home for a visit. Two days after arriving, he received a telegram from the military unit ordering him back to the Fuzhou Military District at once. First, he thought it was a military emergency. After returning, however, he attended a meeting in which Jiang Zemin's secret instructions on persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in the military were conveyed: "Military personnel are strictly forbidden from practicing Falun Gong, and anyone caught disobeying this order can be executed by firearms. It is not required that the execution be reported to higher levels." Later when a friend of mine heard this, he could not believe it, exclaiming, "Without any military discipline or law, how can they just execute people like that!" My relative then replied, "This is very real. Our division began preparing for the emergency in July, and we were ready to go to Beijing and arrest Falun Gong practitioners at any time. During that period, people who were on vacation or working elsewhere had to return right away. A division commander from the Fuzhou Military District even left the military, returning to his hometown this year because he practiced Falun Gong. He would rather give up his position of division commander than abandon his practice."

A young officer from the Lanzhou Military District in Gansu Province told me about how he became a victim of the persecution because his wife practiced Falun Gong. In the beginning of 2000, armed troops from the Lanzhou Military District went from door to door to search for Falun Gong practitioners. The soldiers were everywhere, blocking entrances and streets, and the situation seemed quite dangerous. Later, I found out that just because some Falun Dafa truth clarifying materials were discovered in the office and residence buildings of the armed forces members, the commander gave an order: "Confiscate all of the Falun Gong materials. Catch the persons who had left the Falun Gong materials in those buildings and shoot them when they are caught." In the end, they failed to catch anybody.

The persecution of Falun Gong is carried out in every profession. People who suffer from the persecution include members of the military, farmers, workers, cadres, intellectuals, the elderly, women, children and even babies.

1. Ye Wenfu was the former deputy head of the Forestry Department's employee hospital in Yunnan Province. He was illegally arrested for writing seven letters to his senior officers explaining the truth of Falun Gong. Mr. Ye was sentenced to two years in a forced labor camp, and his daughter was also illegally detained for one year. His detention term expired last August, but the labor camp did not release him, stating that, "Whoever has not been transformed will not be released." In order to protest the extension of his sentence, Mr. Ye went on a hunger strike for more than 20 days. His physical health condition was very poor. His current whereabouts are unknown.

2. Zhou Mofang was an associate professor in the Forestry College in Yunnan Province. His wife, Yi Weiyun, was also a faculty member. Because they practiced Falun Gong and clarified the truth to people, Zhou Mofang was illegally sentenced to one year of forced labor. His wife was illegally sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp. Since they both were sent to a labor camp, their daughter had to be cared for by relatives. In November 2002, Professor Zhou was once again illegally arrested and sentenced to five years of forced labor. Professor Zhou is detained in the First Prison in Yunnan Province. Recently, he has been very unwell, and his family requested a conditional release for medical care, but the prison officials refused this request saying, "whoever has not been transformed will not be released for medical care."

3. Ms. Wei Yunmei is in her 50s. She is very determined in practicing Falun Dafa, and clarifying the truth to people. On May 3, 2002 Ms. Wei was illegally detained and sentenced to five years of imprisonment. She was then detained in the Second Prison in Yunnan Province for further persecution. In the prison, she persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises, and clarifying the truth to the inmates. The inmates liked her and called her "Big Sister of Falun Gong." After several months, she had the symptoms of severe heart failure and her body seemed to go into shock. In April 2003, she was released conditionally for medical care. Through doing the exercises and Fa-study, she regained her health in a few days. Ms. Wei then continued to expose the evil and clarify the truth. In November 2003, she was arrested once again and sent to the Second Prison Hospital. It is unknown if she is still alive.

4. Ms. Miao Qing was a teacher in Yunnan Province's Art School. In November 2002 she was arrested for clarifying the truth to people. Ms. Miao was then illegally sentenced to five years in prison, and was persecuted in the Second Prison in Yunnan Province. She has been on a hunger strike many times, and was isolated and detained in solitary confinement during the most recent. On the fourth day of the hunger strike, she was threatened with force-feeding torture. So she had a little milk. Meanwhile, in order to protest against the "Personal Cangues" [cangue is the name of an instrument of torture, and is now used to indicate the person who is designated to supervise the behavior of practitioners], her legs were injured, and she had to go to the hospital for therapy. No detailed information is known about her, and the police have not allowed family members to visit her. Because of work, Miao Qing's husband has to travel frequently. Their young son is still in middle school, so the family matters have to be taken care of by the grandfather.

5. Ms. Chen Huanli was an accountant in the Workers Sanatorium in Kunming, Yunnan Province. In May 2002 she was illegally arrested for clarifying the truth to people. She was sentenced to three years of imprisonment, and then persecuted in the Second Prison in Yunnan Province. Her husband died, and now her son must live alone.

6. Ms. Chen Yulin was an employee of the Mine Mechanical Plant in Yunnan Province before she retired. She was illegally arrested for clarifying the truth and sentenced to three years of detention. She is now being persecuted in the Second Prison of Yunnan Province. Only her husband and child now live at home, and they are living a difficult life. Ms. Chen's father-in-law could not bear this, and became ill and died.

7. Ms. Deng Jiafeng is a determined Falun Dafa practitioner. She was arrested for clarifying the truth to people and then detained at the Second Prison in Yunnan Province.

8. Mr. Chen Xiaoguai was arrested in October 2000 for clarifying the truth to people. After being sentenced to five years of imprisonment, he has been detained and persecuted at the First Prison in Yunnan Province.

9. Mr. Li Yunfu was arrested in October 2000 for clarifying the truth. After being sentenced to five years in prison, he has been detained and persecuted at the First Prison in Yunnan Province.

10. Ms. Shi Xizhi was an employee of the Yunnan Province Food Corporation, Transportation Division, before she retired. After she was sentenced to a 4 year prison term for clarifying the truth to people, she was detained and persecuted at the Second Prison in Yunnan Province.

11. Ms. Zeng Shaolan was an employee of Yunnan Province Construction Company before she retired. Because she clarified the truth to people, her home was ransacked. One month later, she died on August 6, 2002.

The "610 Office" is located on the first floor of the Oilfield Administration Bureau Building

The "610 Office" directed Shengli Oilfield to hold three brainwashing classes. The classes are held at the Shengli Oil Extraction Factory, the Oil-Gas Collection and Transportation Company, and the Educational Institute. Since 2000, these classes have been used to persecute Falun Gong practitioners on a large scale.

The brainwashing center officials ordered work units and Binhai police officers to abduct and arrest Dafa practitioners, and send them to brainwashing classes. Dafa practitioners are held for long periods of time at these classes, and forced to watch and listen to Dafa-defaming materials. They are forced to write the "Three Statements" (2) to renounce their belief in Dafa, their salary is reduced or withheld from them, they are beaten, some are sent to mental hospitals, some are force-fed, sent to additional brainwashing classes in Wangcun, sent to forced labor camps, and the authorities assert pressure on their families.

According to an incomplete estimate, as of March 3, 2003, a total of 736 Falun Gong practitioners from the Shengli Oilfield region have been persecuted. Dafa practitioner Zhao Baolan was tortured to death; three practitioners were sentenced to prison; 57 practitioners were sent to labor camps; 142 practitioners were illegally detained; five practitioners were sent to mental hospitals; 67 practitioners' homes were ransacked; 77 practitioners were forced to leave home to avoid persecution; 383 practitioners were arrested, monitored, and brainwashed. Fines totaling over 2,927,400 Yuan were imposed on Dafa practitioners. In the following year, many Dafa practitioners suffered various kinds of persecution, including having to pay large amounts in fines. Because the persecution is ongoing, the exact amount of fines that have been imposed is yet to be determined.

The so-called Oilfield "Anti Cult Association" is located at the Oilfield Science Division, also called the Technology Center. Lu Renjie and Zhang Fulu are in charge of the association. Shengli Oilfield Educational Institute. The brainwashing class is located on the third floor of the building

(1) "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

(2) "Three Statements" - Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write these as proof that they have given up their belief. Created by the "610 Office," the three statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners.

(Clearwisdom.net) Huang Zhao passed away. Jiang's regime took away the life of this beautiful, kind, and peaceful young practitioner just because she persevered in her belief in "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance."

Huang Zhao was born in April 1972. She lived at No. 33 of Building No. 3, Shangzhakou, Qiaokou District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province and was an employee for the Qiaokou District Grain Administration in Wuhan City.

Ms. Huang had practiced many types of qigong exercises before she started to practice Falun Dafa. She fully understood the difficulty of finding a righteous cultivation way. In the second half of 1995, the first time she heard about Falun Gong, she eagerly borrowed the book Falun Gong (The Revised Version) from the person who told her about it. After she was given Zhuan Falun, she became even more interested in reading the book. She diligently learned and recited the teachings. By 1999 she was able to recite the whole book of Zhuan Falun. This developed her firm faith, which gave her the strength to persist even after the persecution began. During the five years of the brutal persecution, she always stayed at the front of the Fa-rectification and never yielded to the evildoers. She used her life to compose a magnificent chapter of assisting Master in Fa-rectification.

Huang Zhao deeply understood the preciousness of Dafa. Shortly after she attained the Fa she started to promote Falun Dafa. She often went from Wuhan City to her hometown in Yidu City in Hubei Province to promote and teach the Falun Dafa exercises and always used Truth-Compassion-Tolerance to guide her daily life, treat others with kindness, and freely help others numerous times. For example, she provided lodging to some people who came from the countryside to work in Wuhan City. They lived in her home for several months. She tried her best to take care of them. Her words and actions made the people around her respect Falun Dafa and Truth-Compassion-Tolerance.

After the evil persecution started in 1999, she went to Beijing in December 1999 to appeal and clarify the facts about Falun Gong to the government. At that time, police surrounded the State Council's Appeals Office. They tried all means to prevent people from entering the appeals office. With her determined righteous mind, she broke through layers of security and successfully entered the appeals office where she told the officials, "Falun Dafa is good!" However, she was illegally detained for 15 days.

After she came back from Beijing she started to distribute truth clarification materials, put up signs and hang banners. She also went back to her hometown in Yidu City to encourage fellow practitioners there to step forward to clarify the truth about the persecution. Later she went back to her hometown again to help fellow practitioners there to advance diligently.

I remember one time, before the 2000 New Year, she and I were writing signs to clarify the truth. Because I was scared, I always chose to write in areas that did not have many people, but she very calmly wrote in those areas that people could easily see. One time when she was writing the sign, I stayed by her side and told her that someone was approaching. She continued to write without even raising her head. She had studied the Fa very diligently.

In January, just before the 2001 Spring Festival, the vicious people started to arrest Falun Gong practitioners all over the country in order to prevent the Falun Gong practitioners from traveling to Beijing to appeal during the holiday. She was also arrested and was sent to the Ertouwan Brainwashing Center in the Qiaokou District.

In 2001, Huang Zhao was sent to Wuhan City's No. 1 Detention Center for producing truth clarification materials and exposing the lies about the staged Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation incident. Because she practiced Falun Dafa in the detention center, she was handcuffed and hung up for seven days and nights. Later, without a trial, she was handed a two-year forced labor sentence. The detention center officials failed twice, though, when it tried to send her to a labor camp. The first time, the vehicle that carried her to the labor camp shook badly on the way and almost turned over. The second time, she showed severe symptoms of illness and the labor camp refused to admit her. Later, she was allowed to leave the detention center on bail for medical treatment, and was again sent to a brainwashing center, where she realized the meaning of "no one will interfere with it in terms of which path you take, what you want, or what you try to get." (Lecture Three of Zhuan Falun). So she sent forth righteous thought that she would certainly be able to get out and did not accept the persecution. As expected, shortly after that, she again showed symptoms of severe illness. Her family members were told to take her home. That was the summer of 2002 and she had already been illegally detained for one year.

Toward the end of 2002, Huang Zhao married a very determined practitioner named Liu Ning. He went to Beijing many times to appeal for Falun Dafa and was illegally detained many times. At the beginning of 2001 he was sentenced to one year of forced labor. In Wuhan City's Hewan Labor Camp, Liu completely resisted the persecution and refused to do the forced labor or participate in any other activities, such as roll call. By the beginning of 2002, when he was released on bail for medical treatment, he had then almost lost vision in both eyes and was almost completely paralyzed. Huang Zhao and Liu Ning encouraged each other and worked diligently on their Fa validation path.

The evildoing persons constantly harassed them and ordered them to write the "guarantee letters" [promising not to practice Falun Gong, not to go to Beijing to appeal and no longer associate with other practitioners], and they also threatened to detain the couple again. The couple was forced to leave their home to avoid further persecution. Even under that extremely difficult situation, they still took validating Dafa and clarifying the truth as their own responsibilities. They made sure that they read three lectures of Zhuan Falun every day. They lived frugally and under extremely difficult conditions, often just having two meals each day. Occasionally, one apple was the meal.

Late in the night on April 1, 2004, the No. 1 Section Chief named Jin Zhiping in the Qiaokou District led several people to break into their rented house. They showed no legal documents and followed no legal procedures. They abducted the couple and ransacked their home. Three days later they let Liu Ning's family take Liu home, to live under house arrest. Several days later, while attempting to escape from house arrest, Liu fell and suffered a compound fracture in his legs. Shortly after that, he was arrested again when he visited his mother-in-law.

From April 4 to April 15, Huang's parents went to Qiaokou Police Department to plead for Huang's release and demanded that the police follow legal procedures. However, the police did not follow any legal procedures; neither did they give any explanations, nor did they reveal the site of her detention. On April 16, the police informed Huang's family that Huang Zhao died on the morning of April 16 in Wuhan City No. 1 Hospital.

It had been only 15 days since her arrest that she died. After her death, the police did not permit examination of her remains or allow her family to see her body. The details about Huang Zhao's death still need further investigation.

Huang Zhao's father is a handicapped war veteran. Now his gentle daughter has died in police custody for believing in Truth-Compassion-Tolerance. Besides her parents and brothers, Huang Zhao's 80-year-old grandmother is also in the home. It is disheartening to see these three seniors devastated by the death of their young kin.

After Huang Zhao was murdered, the police department assigned many plain-clothed police to monitor the family's home. They checked and interrogated the passersby. The police department also sent a person to stay in the family's home. They also spread rumors that Huang had committed suicide. The police did not allow their relatives to come to offer their condolences. Their home phone is tapped. The police department also sends the police and people and officials from the neighborhood to take turns visiting their home to apply persuasion tactics so as to cover up the crimes. Greetings to Master! Greetings to Everyone!

I am 15 years old, and I have practiced Falun Dafa since 1998. It has already been more than five years. Today, I want to share my experiences of clarifying the truth with everyone. In 2002 I started to chat on the Internet. It was a classmate who told me about it. In the beginning, I typed very slowly and just talked about ordinary things. Although I made many friends through the Internet, I felt it had no significance. Then suddenly I reflected on how wonderful it would be if I could share the facts in this way! Since that day I have been spreading the facts through the Internet. At that time, the suppression of Falun Gong in China was very severe, and many chat room friends did not understand Falun Gong, and even maligned it. In the beginning, I was a bit at my wit's end. However, I gradually calmed down and started to explain it to them patiently. As time went on I increased my typing speed. Because I had studied Chinese in Singapore, Chinese is not very difficult for me.

In the chat room I tried many ways to spread the truth, by sending instant messages, chatting one-on-one, sending the addresses of truth-clarifying websites, etc. Eventually, I focused on chatting one-on-one, since I felt it had the best effect and was more personal.

The path of sharing the truth, actually, is also a path of upgrading my xinxing (heart or mind nature, moral character). For example, when some people did not believe I was in the USA and just thought I was lying, or they did not believe my age, I frequently became impatient. This was especially true when I used the QQ website to chat at the beginning. Many of the people did not believe there was a QQ website overseas. However, I realized my impatience was wrong. Then I just said to the other side, "It is up to you to believe or not. Anyway, I do not lie to you. What I cultivate is 'Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance,' I do not deceive people." Thereby, I introduced the Dafa topics and shared the truth.

As the Fa-rectification accelerates, people are gradually understanding much better and starting to use their own minds to think through the issues. They changed from reviling to quibbling and from rebutting to questioning. Their tone changed a lot. So, compared to three years ago, now it is easier to explain the facts.

In these years of truth clarifying, I met many people ranging from friends who are the same age as I am to old people whom I call grandparents. Among them, there are undergraduates, students in middle school, policemen, Internet administrators, and so on. Some are curious, some are indifferent to Dafa, and some have very deep misunderstandings about Dafa. I often talk to different types of people in different ways. For example, one day, when I talked about Dafa with a man, he said to me: "Do you know who I am? I am a policeman!" I typed a smiley face to him and said: "Really? That is great. It is hard for me to find a policeman right now. I'll just tell you, you should not persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They are all good people." I talked to him a lot. Finally, he changed his thoughts about Dafa. Usually, I made friends with them first and related Dafa from my own life. However, sometimes I talked about Dafa from the voice of a third party, which also had good effects. When I explain the facts, I do not like to make the atmosphere tense. Usually I type all kinds of smiling faces to the other person. Sometimes, I joke with him and show that I care about him, which makes him feel Dafa practitioners are not that rigid but really want to help from their hearts. For example, one day after I clarified the truth with a man, he asked my age. He said, "You don't seem like 14." I told him that it surely was my real age. He said: "Actually, if you turn around the numbers of your age, I am still older than you." I joked: "I am almost 15. In that case, if you turn it around, am I older than you then!"

Many times my chat room friends have said to me: "You are so young. You do not understand many things. It is only important for you to study hard." To that I reply: " I may not understand some things. But I know the most basic things. I know "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" is good. I know people who cultivate "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" are right. People who persecute a group of harmless good people are wrong. However, that man who is in his 70's and also once worked as Chairman of China does not know the most basic things at all!" The other person is sometimes left speechless or changes the topic.

Often the chat room friends thought that the evil Jiang represented China. When I mentioned the lies Jiang spread, they criticized me for not loving the home country and being against the government, etc. I just said: "Jiang cannot represent the government, even more, he cannot represent China. If he can represent China, China is disgraced overseas. Do you know that he suddenly stood up and sang in an international conference? When he visited Chicago, Jiang did not enter the hotel he had booked by the front door or the even the side door, but by the back door. Jiang was afraid to see a group of virtuous Falun Gong practitioners.

During the course of sharing the facts I think what is most important is sending righteous thoughts and studying the Fa well. When I began clarifying the truth, I just sent righteous thoughts when the other person abused Falun Gong terribly. As expected, the other person had no reply for a long time. Moreover, studying the Fa well helps me keep a harmonious and merciful state of mind during the course of explaining the facts. I would not get upset over a little thing. When my state of mind was not stable, what I said to the other person simply had less effect, or even had an adverse effect. So before I tell people the facts each time, my mother always urges me to study the Fa or listen to the Fa first.

The above are my experiences in spreading the truth in chat rooms. Next, I want to relate some stories about clarifying the truth in school. One occurred last year when I was in eighth grade. It was my first year after transferring to this school. There are not many Chinese students in this school. There are only three in the grade I am in. The other two Chinese students do not know how to speak English very well. So when I talked to my American friends in English, and my exam scores were excellent, both of them were astonished. One time, in a history class, time passed but our teacher did not come to the classroom. Someone suggested asking a boy to tell a story. Then another boy interrupted him and said that I should tell some stories about China. In the beginning, I was a bit shy, but I realized it was a very good chance to tell my classmates the facts. I could not lose such a precious chance simply because I was shy. So I said: "OK. I'll just tell you a story that happened in China." I talked about Dafa and mentioned the persecution. When I spoke about people ranging from an 8-month-old infant to an over-70-year-old senior citizen, who were tortured to death, they looked at me with serious and earnest faces. During this time, there was also some interference. Someone raised questions, but others were impatient and said to him: "You let her finish first." So, in a few minutes, I told the whole class about Dafa's situation in China. Just after I finished, the assistant principle came in. My classmates told him I had told them the stories of what is happening in China. The assistant principle nodded and said: "Good, anyway that is also history." I deeply experienced Master's mercy and encouragement. I also thank Master for giving me such a good opportunity.

Another time, also last year, there were many places where practitioners collected signatures to rescue Charles Li. We also did this in our area. A practitioner encouraged my friend and me to go to school to collect signatures. At the beginning, I was a bit nervous and shy. When it was the time for the fourth class, my friend asked the teacher to read the introduction on the signature list, and he signed his name without any hesitation. I was very encouraged and also ashamed of my own fear. So, after the class, it was lunchtime, and my friend and I started collecting signatures of people we knew and did not know. However, because I did not let my fear go, my friend did better than I. Later, with the continuous hints Master gave me, under the situation that Master reminded and encouraged me even through ordinary people's mouths, my friend and I collected in total more than 100 signatures.

This year, I transferred to a high school. It is a totally new school. There are new teachers and classmates. Some have already heard about the Dafa truths and some have not. I recall one time during English class our teacher mentioned a main character of a book. For the sake of justice and conscience, he would rather endure torture, and was not willing to give up the belief he held fast to, which made me reflect on Dafa. So after class was over that day when I passed by the classroom, I saw her sitting there alone. I just walked in. At the beginning, I just spoke to her about my grades. Then I said to her: "Teacher, what you talked about in today's class reminded me of something happening in China. Do you know Falun Gong? It is a practice to teach people to cultivate Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance. It is welcome in more than 60 countries in the world. However, in China, it is suppressed unreasonably and propaganda is broadcast about it. Falun Gong practitioners are detained, even persecuted to death, just because they wanted to speak up to defend it. They are not against the government. They only wish the government would give them the freedom and environment to practice that which belonged to them originally." When I spoke about this point, the teacher nodded and said: "I see, it is not against the government." I continued to talk. When I mentioned that the 8-month-old infant was tortured to death, she suddenly said: "It seems I read what you said somewhere. It seems there once was some information regarding this in my mailbox." I became speechless for a moment. I recalled it could be the Dafa practitioner who once took over a class for an absent teacher and put the materials in her mailbox. And then I gave her a smile. When I mentioned that the evil Jiang did not dare to enter the hotel by the front door, just because he was afraid to pass a group of Falun Gong practitioners wearing yellow clothes, the teacher looked amused and laughed. In just 10 short minutes, another life knew the truth. I am really happy for her. There are some other stories. For example, a classmate got a truth-clarifying flier a long time ago. One day when we were in school, he suddenly said to me: "I read the flier about Falun Gong at home one day. I read that China arrested a person just because he unfurled a banner. It really was not right." I smiled at him and agreed.

During the course of sharing the facts I also let go of my own attachments, including fear and shyness. However, whenever I am hesitant, I always recall Master's mercy and encouragement for me to let go of my fear, expose the persecution in China to more people, and show Dafa's beauty.

(Clearwisdom.net) On the morning of April 28 when Dafa practitioners in Tongliao City, the Neimenggu Autonomous Region, learned that imprisoned fellow practitioner Tian Fang had been holding a hunger strike for 12 days, they immediately started rescue efforts. They made large quantities of posters and flyers with Tian Fang's picture on them. In the evening, Dafa practitioners distributed the posters and flyers in all major streets and neighborhoods in Tongliao City, which caused quite a stir.

Tian Fang's mother Liu Xiurong, also a Dafa practitioner, went to the Politics and Law Committee the next day and asked for the release of her daughter.

Around 3:00 a.m. on April 29, 57-year-old Dafa practitioner Ms. Wan Xiuying and 62-year-old Ms. Dong Guiyun were unlawfully arrested and taken to the city police department where the two practitioners shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" They also sent forth righteous thoughts.

Dafa practitioners didn't give up their efforts to rescue their fellow practitioners. Truth-clarification flyers and posters repeatedly appeared in all corners of Tongliao City. An elderly Dafa practitioner said, "In the morning, I saw posters and flyers on the electric poles, and in afternoon they were still there. In the evening they were ripped off, but new ones appeared in the same places by the next morning."

(Clearwisdom.net) I'd like to share an experience I had talking to my mom on Mothers' Day.

My mother, a lawyer, has always been pretty supportive of Dafa. She often tells her friends about it, and even paid my flight to an experience sharing conference once. But I always felt that she wasn't too sure of Falun Gong, maybe because of her own spiritual beliefs. She was out with a friend on the evening of Mothers' Day and at around the same time, I was finding that my heart was quite moved yet again, this time by a positive review about a terrible book about Falun Gong.

When Mom got home I was just calming down and studying the Fa. She asked how I was and I said something like, "Umm....trying not to be angry, actually". This led to a long conversation. I explained to her how this book took things out of context, and how the book review said that the genocide against Falun Gong was okay because of the misguided way the book described the Falun Gong teachings.

She was angry and suggested that I get the book and read it, then write
my own review, talk to the woman who wrote it and write to the major US newspaper that had published the review. I was happy for my mom because she got a better idea of why practitioners clarify the truth.

When I remarked that the persecution against Falun Gong is a genocide, she asked, "Is it?"  "Yes," I replied, and then told her how the persecution has permeated every level of society, from the judicial system to schools, to media, and every level of government.  She had never heard the truth so in-depth before.

Then, she began to say something like how China has such a long history, and such complex arrangements. She rhetorically asked, "Why is China's character and history the way it is? Why did Falun Gong emerge? And why did it meet with such opposition? There MUST be a higher, profound spiritual reason for all these things".

I told her some stories about how practitioners have responded so compassionately to the persecution, and then she continued by saying something like, "The reason that tens of thousands of people are able to 'cultivate the perfect human spirit' even amidst the worst brutality is because there is something from a higher level at work. She said that she thinks Falun Gong is at the forefront of an overall shift in consciousness in China, and that's why it has met with so much opposition from people who don't want change.

I was very happy for my mom this day.

(Clearwisdom.net) On the afternoon of May 11, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Ireland, the current Chair-nation of the European Union, on the last stop of his European visit. On the evening of the same day, Falun Gong practitioners held a peaceful appeal outside the Dublin Castle in which the Irish Premier and Chairman of European Parliament, Bertie Ahern, had a summit with Premier Wen. Falun Gong practitioners called on the Chinese authorities to "Bring Jiang Zemin and Bo Xilai to Justice" and stop Jiang and his followers from persecuting Falun Gong. Practitioners also called on the Chinese Premier to allow two Falun Gong practitioners, Liu Feng and Yang Fang, to return to Ireland to continue their study.

Falun Gong practitioners also distributed one-page newsletters to people who came to the Castle for Premier Wen's reception banquet. The newsletter was specially designed for this appeal and clarified the fact that the persecution does not reflect the will of either the Chinese people, but is being orchestrated by former Chinese president Jiang Zemin and his group of followers.

On the afternoon of May 11, just before Premier Wen arrived in Ireland, three members of the Irish Falun Dafa Association were invited to testify at a Falun Gong hearing hosted by the Human Rights Committee of the Irish Parliament. After the practitioners' testimony, members of Parliament (MP) sponsored an urgent motion to request Irish Premier Bertie Ahern to bring up the cases of Liu Feng and Yang Fang during his meeting with Mr. Wen on the evening of the same day.

In the past several years, organizations such as Amnesty International Ireland, Pan-Irish Student Union and Student Unions of several Dublin Major Universities have been working very hard to rescue Liu Feng and Yang Fang. A number of MPs have brought up the case of these two students several times to Irish Premier and Minister for Foreign Affairs. When former Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji visited Ireland in 2001, Irish Premier Bertie Ahern requested his counterpart to release Irish Trinity College student Zhao Ming, who was being illegally detained in a labor camp at that time. In the beginning of 2002, Mr. Brian Cowen, Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, brought up Zhao Ming's case to Chinese government officials again when he visited China. In March of 2002, Zhao Ming was released and returned to Ireland. People from all circles hope that the new Chinese Premier's visit will help secure the release of Liu Feng and Yang Fang as well.

A Chinese dissident (1) made a passionate appeal for an end to human rights abuses in his country at a meeting of a parliamentary committee in Leinster House yesterday.

Mr. Zhao Ming, a member of the Falun Gong movement, told a sub-committee on human rights how he had been imprisoned and tortured for his spiritual beliefs and practices.

Mr Zhao also highlighted the cases of two Chinese students, Mr Feng Liu (24) and Ms Fang Yang (33), who had been attending colleges in Dun Laoghaire but were detained by the Chinese authorities during a visit to their home country. He alleged that they were now unable to leave China.

Mr Zhao said he was a computer science student at Trinity College Dublin when he went home to China in 1999. Because of his adherence to the non-violent Falun Gong movement, he was arrested without warrant and put in a labour camp without trial.

He claimed he was subjected to "brainwashing" to force him to renounce his beliefs. He further alleged that, on different occasions, he was deprived of sleep, forced to squat and had his hands pinned behind his back, all for long periods.

Mr Zhao alleged he was beaten so hard that he "couldn't walk for two weeks" and that he was also subjected to electric shocks.

When asked by Mr Tony Gregory TD (Independent) why an element of the Chinese leadership was carrying out such persecution, Mr Zhao replied that there was no rational explanation for this, any more than there was for Ancient Rome's persecution of the early Christians.

"It is nothing to do with politics, they just want to monopolise people's minds," he added.

Mr Pat Carey TD (FF) said it was "opportune" that Mr Zhao and his Falun Gong associates had come before the sub-committee on the day the Chinese Prime Minister, Mr Wen Jiabao, was visiting Ireland. "All of us have huge concerns about human rights abuses in China," Mr Carey said.

The sub-committee adopted a proposal from Sen Paschal Mooney (FF) that an "urgent note" be sent to the Taoiseach about the two Dun Laoghaire students, requesting him to raise the issue with the Chinese Prime Minister.

A group of 16-19 year olds will leave the nation's capital May 13th to embark upon a 700-mile bicycle ride to Chicago, IL. Calling themselves "Pedals of Peace," they are riding to save the lives of children and teens in China who are being persecuted because of their spiritual beliefs.

The Pedals of Peace were inspired by a young Falun Gong practitioner, Fadu, whose father was killed for his beliefs. In 1999, the Chinese government outlawed the practice and began a campaign of persecution that continues to this day. Now three years old, Fadu travels the world with her mother telling people about their loss.

"We don't know the exact number of children suffering from the persecution, but we do know it has affected kids from eight months-to-17 years old, some of whom died in police custody. Others have had their families torn apart," says Keith Ware, an adult organizer of the bike ride.

Ten-year-old Herndon, VA resident and Falun Gong practitioner Karen Chen won't be riding to Chicago, but she urges her local officials to support the bike ride. She tells them about her grandmother who was deprived of all her rights in China. "I miss my grandma and want to see her. I hope that the persecution will end so then all the other mothers, fathers, relatives, and children can be safe."

The Save the Kids Ride will travel north, then west from Washington, DC through Cumberland, MD, Pittsburgh, PA, Columbus OH, and Indianapolis, IN, arriving in Chicago on May 21. They will be greeted by supporters who have tracked their journey on the Web site http://www.pedalsofpeace.org. Several adults, including experienced bikers, will join the teens in their continuous, relay-style ride. Other activities include an international postcard campaign and an art project.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a practice of meditation and exercises with teachings based on the universal principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance." It is practiced freely in over 50 countries worldwide. The Falun Dafa Information Center, which tracks the persecution in China, has verified more than 850 (1) deaths there, but they say the number could be much higher.

Hello everyone. My name is Brian Nieh. I am 15 years old and I'm currently a sophomore attending the magnet program at Montgomery Blair High School in Maryland.

As you all may or may not know, Petals of Peace is a non-government organization aimed at exposing the truth about the children in China who are suffering from the persecution of Falun Gong. I, along with other teenagers, calling ourselves the "Pedals of Peace", were moved by these stories and just couldn't stand by and watch the innocent endure unnecessary persecution for believing in "Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance". Therefore, we have decided to bike to Chicago to tell people the stories of all these innocent children. In China, they do not have the freedom of speech, the freedom of religion and belief, or the right to an education. They are suffering and without a voice to tell anyone, thus we have taken it upon ourselves to make sure their unspoken words and stories are heard by the world.

Yin Xiaotian is my age, 15 years old. He took the high school entrance and placement exam and earned the right to go to the best school in his Changchun City district in China. But he was denied the right to go to the top school, or any school for that matter, because he practiced Falun Gong.

Chen Ying, a high school student and a Falun Gong practitioner, went to Beijing to peacefully appeal in July of 1999 and was subsequently illegally detained. She died one month later by torture while in police custody.

Qu Yao, a 14 year old from Liaoyang City, was orphaned after his mom left home to escape police persecution and his dad was forcefully arrested and sentenced to labor camp for two and a half years without any legal reason.

These are but a few of the thousands upon thousands of stories of the affect this pointless persecution has on the innocent children in China. How can we, living comfortably in this land of freedom and liberty, sit here and watch as 14 million kids are being abused, being persecuted? It is our duty to do everything within our ability to expose the truth behind China's many lies, and to give these children a voice, whether through a bike ride, an origami folded lotus flower, or a postcard. As the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

Now about the bike ride, I can't stand here and tell you all that this ride will be a cakewalk, an easy task. It isn't. It will be arduous, but what's a sweat or a blister here and there compared to the sufferings endured by the 14 million kids in China? They are the ones being tortured, being orphaned, being denied of their education for their beliefs in "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance", the beliefs in Falun Gong. One person once asked me, "Why don't you just drive to Chicago? Why bike?" Well, why not just fly? Anyone can do that. But we are here to take a stand, and get everyone's attention so that the voices and the stories of all these victimized children can be heard.

I allude again to Dr. Martin Luther King, as he stood not far from us in the same city as he proclaimed that he had a dream. I too have a dream. I dream of a day, in the near future, when this madness ends and the children of China can live truly free, without the burden of the persecution weighing heavy on their shoulders. And when that day comes, I plan on riding with the Pedals of Peace in China, maybe from the capital city, Beijing, to Changchun, the city in which Falun Gong originated.

On the evening of May 10, Falun Gong practitioners in Northern California gathered outside the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco and held a sit-in appeal activity to call for the end of the persecution and for bringing Jiang Zemin to justice.

A Stanford graduate, now an engineer at a semi-conductor company in the southern bay area, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Liping said that in May alone, ten more death cases of Falun Gong practitioners due to police torture were reported. They include a young man in his 20's as well as people in their 60's and 70's.

According to the reports, 35-year-old Mr. Zheng Fuxiang from Yushu City, Jilin Province suffered devastating torture both physically and mentally by the labor camp police for speaking the truth. Mr. Zheng Fuxiang held a hunger strike during his detention to protest the persecution, and the guards force-fed him. They inserted a finger-thick rubber tube into his stomach through his nose and fed him concentrated saline solution. When Mr. Zheng refused to give up practicing Falun Dafa, the guards and the inmates punched and kicked various parts of his body and stripped him naked; they whipped his body with belts until his skin was lacerated and deep muscle tissue was exposed. Then they rubbed salt into the fresh wounds, which caused excruciating pain. Mr. Zheng Fuxiang sustained severe internal injuries from the torture. He was coughing constantly and extremely weak. Despite his condition, he was made to do hard labor. Prior to his death, Mr. Zheng was constantly vomiting blood. He passed away at 4:00 am on April 7, 2004.

Another 48-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Yuzhen from Zhangjiako City, Hebei Province had been diagnosed with late stage lymphoid cancer and was on the verge of death. But after she took up the practice of Falun Gong, she miraculously recovered and resumed her work. She worked diligently and her boss praised her: "If everyone worked as diligently as Zhang Yuzhen, the factory would have been in good shape a long time ago." But since July 20, 1999, when Jiang's group started persecuting Falun Gong out of Jiang's personal jealousy, Ms. Zhang Yuzhen has suffered brutal persecution many times, until she was tortured to death on May 4, 2004.

Mr. Yang Liping expressed that many of the police have already lost their humanity, and their torture methods are extremely cruel. Practitioners are demanding that the criminal persecutors be punished and that Jiang Zemin be brought to justice; at the same time they are calling for people of justice and conscience to help end the persecution.

(Clearwisdom.net) The area known as Korea Town in Los Angeles is well known for its large population of Korean immigrants. To share the beauty of Falun Dafa with people residing in Korea Town, Falun Dafa practitioners from Los Angeles formally set up a practice site there on April, 2004. On May 1, they held the first Falun Dafa introductory workshop in the Korean language in the Pio Pico Korea Town Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library.

Practitioners carefully prepared different kinds of banners and information packets in Korean and actively contacted local Korean media outlets. Radio Seoul, Radio Korea and Korean Daily Times all broadcasted or published advertisements for the workshop.

On May 1, about 25-30 Korean residents came to attend the workshop. Apart from watching the introductory films, attendees actively asked questions. They also learned the five-sets of Falun Dafa exercises. Many people expressed their wish of joining the morning exercises at the Korea Town practice site. Practitioners prepared the new Korean version of Zhuan Falun (the main book of Falun Gong) and presented it as a gift to each Korean resident who attended the workshop. Practitioners sincerely hoped that more and more people will step onto the path of cultivating "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance".

(Clearwisdom.net) On May 10 2002, a Falun Dafa practitioner from Overland Park, Kansas delivered a speech that recounted the story of Ms Wang Lixuan and her 8-month-old baby, Meng Hao, who were both tortured to death in the Tuanhe Labor Camp in Beijing on November 7, 2000. A local artist created a pair of dolls to commemorate the deaths of Ms. Wang and Meng Hao.

Many of the members of the Toastmaster's Club were shocked by the sheer brutality of the guards at the Tuanhe Labor Camp. Some asked for web sites they could visit to learn more about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. About 20 members of the club, plus visitors, attended the event, and many expressed how impressed they were with the presentation and congratulated the speaker on doing so well with such a difficult subject on his first speech to this group.

The text of the speech is as follows.

"In February 2002, I went to China to help shine the international spotlight on the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. I went there to be a voice for those who were denied their constitutional right to appeal, for those who were not allowed to seek a redress of wrongs or have their grievances heard. I was detained, interrogated and my possessions were stolen by the police. I was held captive overnight.

I went there because of stories like this one about Wang Lixuan and her 8-month old baby Meng Hao. They were tortured to death at the Tuanhe Labor Camp in Beijing on November 7, 2000. Ms Wang's neck and knucklebones were broken, an area of her skull was depressed and there was a needle stuck in her body. There were two deep bruises on little Meng Hao's ankles and two black and blue marks on his head with blood pooled inside his little nose. It appears that he had been shackled by his ankles and hung upside down before he died.

There are many stories similar to this one that prompted me to make the journey to China. They don't all end in death, but they most often involve torture and brutality. At least 955 Falun Gong practitioners have died, over 100,000 have been sent to labor camps, with many forced to make products that may be sold here in the United States. Thousands more have been sent to mental institutions and injected with powerful drugs. I went to China to support those being abused, to speak out against the atrocities and to meet brute force with a heart of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance.

How did this persecution start? Jiang Zemin is responsible. He has abused his position as the leader of the communist party, as the one who controls China's military and police forces. In addition, Jiang has tied the financial and political futures of people at all levels of government, including policemen, to the elimination of Falun Gong. Fines, demotions and loss of positions are punishment for not being effective enough at forcing people to renounce their beliefs, while promotions, monetary awards and elevated status await those who are zealous enough to produce results at any cost. Yes, Jiang Zemin is the cause of this 5-year-old persecution. He said, 'No means are too excessive to eradicate Falun Gong.'

We Falun Gong practitioners have spent a great deal of time over the last several years to bring an end to this ugly drama. Many often go without sleep in order to see these atrocities end sooner and to have more of the world's people become aware of the situation. Many leaders from all over the world have voiced their concerns. Presidents, governors, mayors, city council members, lawmakers and many others have expressed outrage. And it doesn't stop there. Every person in the world, which includes all of us in this room, has the opportunity to speak out against this blatant disregard for people's most fundamental rights. There are online petitions to sign letters to write postcards to send, phone calls to make. The opportunities to lend support are numerous.

I've shared about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China, how it started and how it has continued for 5 years. Speaking out and educating the world's people are the preferred ways to peacefully ending these atrocities. (Clearwisdom.net) The city of Wichita is an important industrial city in Kansas, where many Chinese people reside. The annual Wichita River Festival, with a 33 year history, is one of the grand occasions for the local people. In May each year, tens of thousands of people come from surrounding areas to participate in the celebration. The Sundown Parade usually marks the start of this festival. The parade this year was held on the evening of Friday, May 7, with nearly 200 organizations participating. Falun Gong practitioners also attended. Nearly 100,000 people watched the parade.

In the late afternoon, the sunshine was bright and a gentle spring breeze warmed the air. During the one-and-a-half-hour parade, huge crowds of people could be seen everywhere. In the sunshine, Falun Gong practitioners' float was extremely colorful and eye-catching. Four practitioners dressed in Tang Dynasty costumes followed the float. Holding lotus flowers in their hands, they danced like celestial maidens. Wherever the float passed by, the melodious and peaceful music of "Pudu" resounded in the air. Spectators warmly applauded and cheered, and numerous people reached out their hands to ask for Falun Dafa introductory materials. Innocent and enthusiastic children also asked for the bookmarks. The practitioners who distributed the flyers could not hand out materials fast enough to all the people asking for them.

Practitioners have a common wish: People, please remember that Falun Dafa is great and Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance are great!

Persecution Facts

Dafa practitioner Ms. Wang Guangzhi from the Hui Ethnic Autonomous Region in Dachang, Hebei Province was persecuted many times because she refused to give up her belief in Truth-Compassion-Tolerance. On August 19, 2000, the police abducted Wang Guangzhi and detained her in the Dachang Detention Center for 79 days. They also extorted 6,185 Yuan from her. In 2001, they abducted her again and threw her into the Lao Detention Center, where she held a hunger strike and was released. In October 2001 she was sent to a brainwashing class conducted by persons from the Dachang "610 Office" where she was mentally tortured. In mid October 2002, Wang Guangzhi was almost abducted, and has left home ever since.

Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Jianbo in Zhejiang Province was unlawfully held in criminal detention in the Shaoxing County Police Department on March 29, 2004, because he gave out two Dafa truth-clarification VCDs to the local people. Zhang Jianbo held a hunger strike during the detention, but the police refused to release him. They have transferred him to the Qingchun Hospital in Hangzhou City for further persecution.

My name is Li Chuanfang and I am a Dafa practitioner. I worked for the Zhucheng City Cotton Textile Mill in Shandong Province. My husband Wang Shuqing and I were persecuted for appealing for Falun Gong and were detained and fined in violation of the Chinese constitution. My father-and-mother-in-law believed Jiang group's lies and stopped practicing Falun Gong. Soon after, my mother-in-law fell ill and passed away. In 2002, my husband Wang Shuqing was forced to leave home, and my happy family was broken up. Wang Shuqing was arrested on October 31, 2002, and was sent to the Changle Labor Camp where he has been held ever since.

I am a Falun Dafa practitioner in Jizhou City, Hebei Province. On March 30, 2001, I and fellow practitioners, Ms. Li Jingci and Ms. Lou Guiping were abducted and forced to attend a brainwashing class. We refused to cooperate and were cuffed and had to remain standing and not allowed to talk. Police slapped our faces and beat us with studded rubber clubs. Ms. Lou Guiping passed out. Police hit me more than 200 times, resulting in severe bruising, for which I was hospitalized 45 days.

Further persecution occurred in the Jilin Provincial Women's Prison from June to December of 2003:

Falun Dafa practitioner, Ms. Tian Xiulu was tied onto a Dead Man's Bed (1) for 15 straight days. Practitioner, Ms. Su Hong, was tied onto a Dead Man's Bed for 7 days. Practitioner, Ms. Liu Xia, was locked in a small cell (2) for 13 days and went on a hunger strike for 9 days. Practitioner, Ms. Meng Xianli, was held in a small cell for 4 days. Practitioner, Ms. Liu Shuanghui was tortured 87 days, because she refused to wear a prisoner's uniform. She was held in a small cell for 74 days, during which she was also tied onto a Dead Man's Bed for 13 days. She was also tortured with a "Big Hang Up"(3) and suffered from frostbite on her hands because of the cold weather and lack of circulation. Practitioners, Ms. Meng Qingling and Ms. Chen Lihua were also held in the small cell. Practitioner, Ms. Liu Fengrong was also tied onto a Dead Man's Bed.

1. Dead Man's Bed: The limbs of the practitioner are tied to the four corners of an ice-cold metal bed. The practitioner is tied so tightly, that he cannot move at all and is not allowed to get up to eat, drink or go to the bathroom. This brutal treatment could last for more than 12 days. This type of cruel torture causes severe mental and physical trauma.
2. Small Cell: The detainee is locked up alone in a very small cell. The guards handcuff practitioners behind their backs in a fixed position onto the rear of the cell, so that they cannot move or lay down. It is very damp with no sunlight. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to these detainees. During the night, the rats freely run around. The stench is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.
3. Big Hang Up: There are two forms of this torture: (1) With both hands cuffed behind the back and only toes touching the ground, one is hung by a rope that is tied to the metal window frame; (2) One hand of a practitioner is cuffed to one bunk bed and the other hand to another bed. The two beds are pulled in opposite directions, causing extreme pain to the victim.

Practitioners of Falun Gong will mark April 25 this Sunday with activities around the world, renewing the call for Beijing to end a five-year campaign of suppression that legal experts have come to term genocide.

It was on April 25, 1999, that Falun Gong stunned the world when some 10,000 adherents petitioned the central government in Beijing. Those gathering asked officials to redress maltreatment by the Public Security Bureau and a defamatory article in breach of national policy on qigong.

"It's a bittersweet occasion," said Erping Zhang, a spokesperson for the group. "April 25 was a peaceful response to police brutality and months of illegal activity by security personnel. What's tragic is, the regime's head, Jiang Zemin, used the occasion and launched a campaign to 'eradicate' Falun Gong."

"But at the same time, there's a message of hope in April 25. Thousands of people, from all walks of life, went together to their government to report on unlawful activities. It was a show of good citizenship, you could say. And that same peaceful approach has come to be Falun Gong's hallmark under horrible, brutal suppression."

The Sunday events continue that tradition of peaceful demonstration. Dozens of cities are expected to participate, with events ranging from panel discussions and photo exhibits, to marches, candlelight vigils, and sit-ins outside Chinese consulates. Participating cities range across the US, Canada, Europe, and elsewhere.

The peaceful, apolitical events ride on the momentum of several major human rights lawsuits targeting Chinese officials, and challenge Jiang Zemin's claim that Falun Gong is somehow a threat to the communist regime's power.

Falun Gong's founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi, recently addressed the regime's accusation in his first media interview in several years, granted to New Tang Dynasty Television.

"The fact is, when it comes to worldly political power, to the authority somebody has, we're not interested in that. We absolutely, positively don't want to seize the Communist Party's power. We're just doing self-cultivation," Li said, continuing, "that's part of the propaganda the Party's rumor-mongering media spreads, and from day one they've been fabricating stuff about us vying for power with the Communist Party."

"All we're asking is to have some space that allows us to follow our beliefs," Li added, "to have our personal freedom to do our practice. That's all."

Human Rights Groups Push for Greater Freedoms of Belief and Expression in China

On Thursday, April 8, Chinese human rights groups and Chinese human rights activists held a rally in front of the United Nations in New York City. They are calling on the world body to support a U.S. draft resolution urging China to allow investigations of reports that it is repressing freedom of expression and religion.

According to a report from Times of Tibet on April 9, Alliance to Oppose Persecution in China (ATOPIC), an NGO based in New York hosted the gathering. There were as many as sixty different organizations gathered together voicing against the violation of Human
Rights by the Chinese government. Participating organizations included Global Coalition to Bring Jiang Zemin to Justice, Committee for Investigation Persecutions of Religion in China, Chinese Democracy Alliance, Taiwan Association of America, Transitional Radical Party and Activist in Democracy.

Voice of America also reported the event. It said that several hundred people gathered in front of the United Nations to show their support for the resolution, which the United States has presented to the U.N. Human Rights Commission in Geneva.

The report quoted Mr. Haiying He, one of the rally's organizers, who pointed out that condemning China's human rights violations is a top priority, followed by a call for the release of religious and political prisoners. He added, "Number two is to call for immediate release of all those millions of persecuted Falun Gong practitioners, underground church members, Tibetans, democracy activists who are imprisoned or tortured or persecuted because of their conscience."

According to the VOA report, human rights advocates say China is persecuting its citizens based on their religious and political beliefs.

Representatives from several organizations delivered speeches.

According to the VOA report, Yufeng Liang, another rally organizer, feels demonstrations like these give hope to those persecuted in China. "Here we give encouragement for people in China fighting for democracy and also for those people persecuted," he said. "They will see so many people support them, to help rescue them and also we will let more and more people know the persecution in China."

Chinese Official Served With Lawsuit While Visiting United States

Bo Xilai Charged with Genocide Against Falun Gong Practitioners in China

Bo Xilai, the Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, was served with a lawsuit today during his visit to the United States. The complaint, brought by Li Weixun and others, alleges such serious human rights abuses as torture, genocide and other crimes against humanity carried out while persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in China.

Bo Xilai was served with papers in front of the Fairmont Hotel (2401 M Street, N.W.) in Washington D.C. around 6:35 p.m. on April 22, 2004. A copy of the Summons, Complaint, Notice of Right to Consent to Trial before the Magistrate Judge were hand delivered to the defendant, Bo Xilai, in civil case no. 1.04CV00649 (Li Weixun v. Bo Xilai). The documents were filed this morning in the United States District Court of the District of Columbia by attorney Morton Sklar and attorney Lana Han.

According to the process server, the defendant identified himself and accepted the legal papers, but then realizing he had been served with a lawsuit, proceeded to throw the papers on to the ground. The defendant's entourage immediately physically attacked the process server.

On March 9th, 2004, "Friends of Falun Gong" and "The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong" (WOIPFG) submitted a list of 102 key responsible persons in the persecution of Falun Gong to the U.S. government, including Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing, Zhou Yongkang, Li Lanqing, Wang Maolin, etc., and urged the U.S. government to prohibit these people from entering the U.S. Bo Xilai's name is on both of the lists.

Bo Xilai is also among the defendants listed in a criminal lawsuit filed with the Federal Prosecutors Office in Germany by forty Falun Gong practitioners. The charges here again: genocide and crimes against humanity.

Good Afternoon! I am very appreciative to be able to represent Congressman and Mrs. Lantos today at the invitation of Falun Gong practitioners.

First I want to express an appreciation and greetings to all the guests of San Francisco Bay Area who may be in the square today.

Second I want to express respect and appreciation to all those who usually consider Portsmouth Square their home, their daily gathering and meeting place, their social home, civic home, those Chinese American people, who we are visiting and whose guests we are today in some way. Thank you.

Third, I want to express admiration to all of the Falun Gong practitioners who have been sitting here a long time in the sun and I encourage you very much if you begin to feel a little faint, to stand up and sit over in the shade for a short time. It will not be rude, it will be taking care of yourself, which is a good thing.

And fourth, not necessary in that order and could be in any order, I want to express respect and friendliness to representatives, either official and unofficial, of Chinese consulate and Chinese government, who may be there today to listen and to report back as to what is happening at this very quiet and peaceful commemoration of the 5^th anniversary of the Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China and their defamation of Falun Gong practitioners all over the world.

The Congressional Human Rights Caucus is a group of more than 200 members of the US Congress. Congressman and Mrs. Lantos are co-founders. It is bi-partisan. There are Democratic and Republican Co-Chairs, and also Democratic and Republican members of the Congressional Human Right Caucus. The Congressional Human Right Caucus, and I as Congressman Tom Lantos' Human Rights staff member in the district, learned about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China very shortly after it began to happen about 5 years ago in 1999. We learned that about approximately 10,000 very peacefully appealed in Tianjin, I believe it was, regarding the defamation that happened there, and very peacefully, when they were directed to do so, went to Beijing to appeal to the correct office that they were told to appeal to, about the mistreatment beginning at that time. And they were guided to stand around a major government building because there were so many of them. They were directed very quietly and peacefully. A few of practitioners were allowed to meet and did meet leadership of Chinese government at that time, and very peacefully dispersed, and only expressed their concern that many millions of Chinese Falun Gong practitioners not begin to be defamed. Because in fact, Falun Gong practitioners are friends of everyone in china. They practice Truth, Compassion and Tolerance for everyone and that includes everyone in Chinese government that has been so badly misbehaved.

It is a pity that Chinese government has behaved with such ignorance, with ignorance of such a very long and profound tradition within China, of which Falun Gong is a modern representation. The many wise classics written by many wise scholars of various persuasions in China over the last thousands of years should be instruction to the current Chinese government that they will do much better in dealing with and working with Falun Gong practitioners, to have a dialog and to engage in enough openness so that Falun Gong practitioners can do the only thing they ask for: which is - to practice quietly and openly, a very non-threatening behavior and very healthy behavior for all of China; to practice Truth, which is very hard, trying always to tell the truth; to practice Compassion, always being compassionate about how to tell that truth; and to practice always being tolerant and forbearing in exercising Truth and Compassion. The Chinese government would be so much wiser, and we hope they eventually will, were they to engage a dialog with Falun Gong practitioners, or even just let them be, it would be no harm to them. It would be a slow benefit and healing benefit to all of China.

Truth Compassion and Forbearance are some of deepest values for thousand of years, as I respectfully understand the Chinese culture. China has at times followed a more socialist way and there had been those who believed strongly in socialism quite truthfully that that was best for China. China more recently is following a more Capitalist growth way or trying to combine (them), Falun Gong practitioners are not threatening to any way of trying to make China better or any combination of it. They don't speak about politics at all. They just imply: please what we want to do, what we believe in, is Truth, Compassion and Forbearance and that would include, of course, forbearance to those who had made mistakes so the Chinese government couldn't hope for a better friend than Falun Gong practitioners.

Human Rights Caucus and members of Congressional Human Rights Caucus have had, entertained and sponsored many programs urging the Chinese government to stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Today again on this solemn occasion of this 5 year commemoration, of the beginning of the persecution and defamation of Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese government, we ask most deeply and sincerely once again to the Chinese government: please do what is best for you, Chinese government rulers, and what is best for China and what is right. Please stop persecuting practitioners of Falun Gong and stop defaming practitioners of all Falun Gong over the world.

On April 22, 2004, Lorne W. Craner, United States Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor expressed in a hearing hosted by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that China's human rights record remains poor.

Craner said, "The Chinese Government's mistreatment of its citizens is manifest. Most recently, we have noted increased surveillance of the Internet and detention of those who express opinions about democracy. Democracy activists and some spiritual or religious adherents, including Tibetan Buddhists, Uighur Muslims and the Falun Gong practitioners, continue to suffer harsh treatment. We have received reports of religious adherents being mistreated or beaten in prison. We have regularly raised the need for prison reform, the right of children to receive religious training, and our extreme disappointment over egregious abuses against religious groups. Mr. Chairman, this Administration has repeatedly - and at the highest levels - expressed strong concern, publicly and privately, over the detention of persons for the peaceful expression of their faith or political views and over restrictions on religious freedom, and we will continue to do so."

Craner pointed out, "These concerns were deepened by the Chinese Government's failure to carry out commitments made to U.S. officials to work with the UN Special Rapporteurs on Torture and Religious Intolerance and the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention made during the December 2002 Human Rights."

He continuted, "This backsliding prompted President Bush to authorize the State Department to pursue a resolution criticizing China's human rights practices at the meeting of the UN Human Rights Commission in Geneva this month." Said Craner, "we urged members of the Commission to join us in expressing 'concern about continuing reports of severe restrictions on freedom of assembly, association, expression, conscience and religion, legal processes that continue to fall short of international norms of due process and transparency, and arrests and other severe sentences for those seeking to exercise their fundamental rights."

Although the Chinese Government was successful in getting a sufficient number of members to vote in favor of a "no-action" motion, Craner said, "But our work in Geneva was not in vain. The UN Special Rapporteur on Torture will indeed visit China at the end of June. And now the European Union is factoring China's human rights situation more prominently in its calculus of whether to lift its arms embargo against China. In pursuing a resolution at the Commission, we made a strong statement about our unwavering concern over the human rights situation in China. Other countries and the Chinese government itself have been compelled to take notice of our concern. And those who fight courageously every day to have their voices heard know that the United States has not forsaken and will not forsake them."

Craner stated, "We have an obligation to speak out against the lack of freedom and protection of human rights in China because we see the people of China doing this for themselves on a weekly basis."

"In other words, we see individual, ordinary Chinese doing the extraordinary week after week, month after month. And I believe that we have the responsibility to support these extraordinary efforts and try to expand the political and legal space so that individual Chinese can keep pushing the boundaries." Said Craner.

In the end, Craner summarized, "With regard to China, I believe our best policy is to speak out against human rights abuses, as we did this month in Geneva, and to encourage the reforms that are making such significant inroads there, as we are doing annually through the State Department's Democracy, Human Rights and Rule of Law Program."

German MP: "We Will Urge China to Honor Human Rights after the 60th Session of UNHRC Meeting"

German MP Mr. Hermann Groehe is also the President of the Christian Democratic Party's branch of the Government's Human Rights Association. On April 6, 2004, he wrote a letter in reply to German Falun Gong practitioners stating that he agreed with the EU's decision of supporting the U.S resolution on condemning China for its human rights performance.

Mr. Groehe acknowledged practitioners' letter of April 1 as well as the enclosed leaflet that provided the latest information on Falun Gong practitioners' conditions in mainland China. Mr. Groehe said, "The politics and human rights issue inside China have always been the main concern of our work on human rights. We have not only raised the issue of Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted in China to our own government, but also to the Chinese Government a number of times."

Mr. Groehe also said, "In a meeting which was held by the government's human rights working group, after listening to an official report on the 60th session of UNHRC meeting, we urged our government to take action on solving China's problems and to support the U.S. resolution on condemning China's human rights violations at the UN Human Rights Conference. [...]

He also presumed that, "Like what happened in the previous years, this year, the UN Human Rights Committee Group will receive a 'no-action' plan for the U.S resolution." He added: "As far as I know, the EU will definitely reject this sort of 'no-action' plan. If the UN Human Rights Committee can raise the issue of China, at least, Germany for sure will support the U.S resolution. When the 60th session of UNHRC Meeting is over, the Human Rights Working group in Germany will give an overall summary of our previous work, and our focus will lie in the question of how to solve China's problems. Don't worry, we will keep our focus on China and try out best efforts to urge China to abide by its human rights obligations."

Renowned Lawyer Chris Nyst: Civilized Countries' Commitment To Preventing Human Rights Violations Cannot Be Overridden

Celebrated UK Human Rights lawyer, author and playwright, Mr. Geoffrey Robertson QC, has joined forces with high profile Australian lawyer, author and filmmaker, Mr. Chris Nyst, and a group of Australian university students, to compile a 500 page complaint to the Human Rights Commission detailing instances of shocking abuse by Chinese prison guards and government officials perpetrated on an Australian citizen.

A 36 page statement included in the complaint of Cui Ying Zhang tells how on four separate occasions in 1999 and 2000 Chinese authorities:

• arrested her without lawful grounds;
• administratively detained her without lawful grounds;
• held her incommunicado for prolonged periods;
• denied her any opportunity to test the legality of her detention; and
• subjected her to torture, inhuman and degrading treatment in order to suppress her freedoms of expression, religion and belief.

On the last occasion Ms Zhang claims that for a period of eight months between March and November of 2000, she was held in several Chinese prisons after she refused to renounce her beliefs in Falun Gong, the physical and spiritual practice for which she alleges she was imprisoned. In her statement she details how she was repeatedly beaten during lengthy interrogations, was shackled, kicked and punched, stripped naked and was deprived of sleep, food and water for periods of up to four days.

In one Chinese detention center she was held in the male section of the prison along with 12 other female prisoners in a cell with a glass window in the door.

"Every time a male prisoner or guard walked past (every ten minutes or so) they could see straight into my cell. Both the shower and the toilet were in full view of this window. I remained in this cell in fear of the male prisoners and guards for about a month", Ms Zhang said.

"The male prisoners were encouraged by the guards to watch us shower and go to the toilet. Some male prisoners would masturbate while they watched us".

Despite the horrific conditions within which she was forced to live, Ms Zhang continued to practice her Falun Gong exercises.

"Whenever a guard caught me practicing my exercises they would push me to the ground and kick me with their boots all over my body. They would curse me, pull my hair, splash water on me and use hard objects to hit me. My body was bruised for the entire eight months of my detention. Although I was exhausted, I felt too much pain to fall asleep at night."

In a further effort to stop Ms Zhang practicing her exercises whilst incarcerated she alleges that the guards shackled and handcuffed her to the bars on the cell window.

For the last three months of her detention Ms Zhang was forced to labor for sixteen hours a day, seven days a week. She tells of how she was subjected to repeated beatings by prison guards and lived in constant fear for her life.

According to Falun Gong practitioners, Ms Zhang is only one of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners who have been imprisoned by Chinese authorities without charge since the movement was renounced [...] by the Chinese government in 1999. At the end of the year 2003, Amnesty International released a report that claimed, according to overseas sources, the death toll of those detained in connection with their practice of Falun Gong has now risen to over 700 people, mostly as a result of torture and ill-treatment.

Speaking from Geneva today, Mr. Nyst said that the world community could no longer accept China's flagrant disregard of an individual's basic human rights.

"In many ways, China is the new frontier for the western business world and a land of great opportunity", Mr. Nyst said.

"In my own country of Australia, our government is involved in negotiations for major export deals with China, and large scale private commercial interests within Australia are vying for major contracts including pay television rights in China. These matters should not be permitted to override Australia's, or any other civilized countries' commitment to preventing human rights violations".

Mr. Nyst applauded the involvement of the young Australian law students who helped research and compile the complaint. The fledgling group is part of a new Australian University project, founded by Mr. Nyst, in an effort to heighten youth awareness of international human rights violations.

The imprisonment of the two Dun Laoghaire Students Feng Liu and Fang Yang who are members of the Falun Gong Movement.

That the Chinese Government immediately releases the two Dun Laoghaire Students Feng Liu and Fang Yang.

That the Deputy President and Officer Board will work with the appropriate organisations including the Department of Foreign Affairs to highlight the plight of the two Dun Laoghaire students Feng Liu and Fang Yang and ensure that they are freed.

Student Senate of UC-Berkeley Passes a Resolution to Condemn the Oppression of Falun Gong in China

WHEREAS, at numerous colleges and universities in California and across the United States, the student body includes Falun Gong practitioners, and student organizations include Falun Gong clubs; and

WHEREAS, Falun Gong is a peaceful self-cultivation practice deeply rooted in traditional Chinese culture, with 100 million practitioners in over 60 countries; and

WHEREAS, Falun Gong practitioners aspire to have inner peace and physical health through qigong exercise, meditation, and adherence to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance; and

WHEREAS, on July 20, 1999, former Chinese Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin, in spite of much opposition from within the Chinese regime, officially banned the practice of Falun Gong and initiated a brutal campaign of brainwashing, torture and murder, which continues today; and

WHEREAS, the number of verified deaths from torture has reached 913 as of February 9, 2004; and

WHEREAS, there has been daily slander and defamation from the Chinese state media, which enjoys a monopoly on newspapers, television, radio and Web sites; and

WHEREAS, Chinese delegates in the United States are pressuring local elected officials to refuse or withdraw support of Falun Gong; and

WHEREAS, the Jiang Zemin Regime has additionally been using illicit means to harass, intimidate and physically assault Falun Gong practitioners in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Charles Lee, a United States citizen and Falun Gong practitioner, has reportedly been mentally and physically tortured since being detained by Chinese authorities on January 22, 2003:

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we therefore condemn the persecution of Falun Gong in Mainland China and abroad, and hereby resolve that it is the sense of the Associated Students of the University of California at Berkeley that:

(1) Our local congressional representative, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, should co-sign Resolution 304 by contacting Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey's office;

(2) Copies of this Resolution should be sent to local elected officials at the city, county, state, and federal levels, including --

(A) U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer;
(B) U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell;
(C) U.S. Ambassador to China Clark T. Randt; and
(D) President George W. Bush;

(3) Copies of this Resolution should also be sent to the student governments of colleges and universities in California, in understanding that it is a relevant issue to all California students, with an accompanying recommendation that this Resolution also be adopted as to form a joint action.

The deaths of 25 more Falun Gong practitioners in China as a result of state-run persecution were verified in March, according to reliable sources. Among them are details of recent deaths, as well as information about deaths that had been covered up for over four years.

Twenty-year-old Mr. Chang Baoli was arrested while appealing in Beijing in November 1999. He was then transferred to Gongyi City where police beat him to death the next day.

The delay in verifying Mr. Chang's death reveals the difficulty in getting such information out of the country. For every verified death, an additional five to ten such cases are believed to remain unreported.

The Falun Dafa Information Center receives dozens of reports of practitioners being tortured for every report of a practitioner killed.

One of those killed in March was Daqing City-resident Mr. Li Yuanguang, 34. He died weighing less than one hundred pounds after prolonged torture, leaving behind his wife and a family bankrupted by police extortions.

Mr. Li nearly dropped out of college due to severe kidney problems. After he started practicing Falun Gong his health greatly improved and he continued his studies, earning a master's degree. Before Falun Gong was banned, Mr. Li received government recognition for contributing to his hometown.

After traveling to Beijing's Office of Appeals in 1999 Mr. Li was repeatedly harassed by police. Police abducted him from his home on April 24, 2001 and sent him to the Sha District Detention Center. There, officers forced him to sit on a metal chair, thumped his eyes, placed lit cigarettes in his mouth, force-fed him drugs, inserted mustard into his nose, stomped on his body and fingers, and subjected him to other abuses.

To protest the inhumane treatment, Mr. Li went on hunger strike. He was then repeatedly force-fed -- a violent procedure that has been the direct cause of death in 10% of all verified killings of Falun Gong practitioners.

In a terrible condition, Mr. Li was released from detention only to pass away at home.

"The frequency and consistency of the torture and murder cases throughout China underscores the fact that this is a premeditated campaign directed by high ranking officials," says Falun Dafa Information Center spokesman Mr. Erping Zhang, "not simply the crimes of a few overzealous prison guards."

The March reports indicate that many of the guards received bonuses for torturing practitioners. Criminal inmates also tortured practitioners in order to gain an early release.

Torture methods include dousing practitioners with cold water, leaving them outdoors in freezing temperatures, shocking them with electric batons, depriving them of sleep, starving them, and tying them in agonizing positions.

Practitioners also die after being forced to become homeless, as in the case of Ms. Fang Yuqin, 78. Police harassment forced Ms. Fang and her family out into the street and into destitution. She died several months after her daughter and granddaughter were both sent to the notorious Masanjia Labor Camp.

Ms. Zou Wenyu, 51 years old, is disabled after being injected drug at a forced labor camp in China.

Ms Zou was a teacher for 27 years before she was jailed for practicing Falun Gong. She had suffered from poor health since childhood, resulting in overall frailty. However, Her health improved greatly and her spirits soared after practicing Falun Gong.

On July 20, 1999, Jiang began to openly persecute Falun Gong. In February 2000, Mr. Zou Wenyu went to Beijing to appeal. As a result, Ms. Zou was illegally detained for 50 days and fined 10,800 yuan [Chinese currency: the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 yuan.]. Then Ms. Zou lost her job and thus her livelihood.

In October 2000, she was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor. The staff at the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City, Human Province, injected her with unknown drugs. As a result she became blind in both eyes and she also became hearing-impaired.

The labor camp did not notify Ms. Zou's husband to come and get her until April 2002, and even then authorities only did so because they refused to take the responsibilities as her condition had worsened and her health had deteriorated drastically.

China: Accused of Broadcasting Documentary Programs on TV in Hebei Province, Mr. Cheng Fengxiang Has Bamboo Slivers Jammed Under His Fingernails

Because of his alleged participation in broadcasting documentary programs about the persecution of Falun Gong on TV in the Shahe and Xingtai areas, Mr. Cheng Fengxiang from Yongnian County, Hebei Province, was arrested by local police on January 28, 2004. In order to obtain a reward for finding out the whereabouts of the equipment used for the TV broadcasts, the police captain tortured Cheng Fengxiang by jamming bamboo slivers under his fingernails. The scene of the torture shocked others that were watching.

During the Chinese New Year of 2004, Falun Gong practitioners successfully broadcast the TV documentaries "False Fire," "Jiang Zemin is Being Sued Globally," and "Falun Dafa Spread Around the World" in the Xingtai and Shahe areas of Hebei Province for 75 minutes: The broadcast was intended to let people to know the facts of the persecution of Falun Dafa. Afterwards, the Hebei Provincial Committee ordered the City of Xingtai to finish the investigation in a fixed time or the mayor would be fired on the spot. The Hebei Provincial Police Department arrested several Falun Gong practitioners, while several other practitioners were forced to leave their homes to avoid arrest.

Mr. Cheng Fengxiang is being held in a detention center. According to one source he has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

On January 28, the police also arrested his wife and sealed Mr. Cheng's home to prevent his two sons from staying there. Mr. Cheng's father and his younger brother (neither are Falun Gong practitioners) were also arrested on the same night. Both of them are still being held at the county detention center.

Since June 2003, when Falun Gong practitioners in Chongqing City exposed the insident of Ms. Wei Xingyan (1), the local authorities have been acting outside the law and have furiously retaliated against practitioners. Several truth-clarification materials production sites were raided, and a dozen or so practitioners were arrested. In February 2004, five of those arrested were illegally put on trial and sentenced to severe prison terms.

The practitioners and their current situations are as follows:

Chen Shumin, male, General Manager of Juxian Technology Development Company; sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Lu Zhengqi, male, Vice General Manager of Juxian Technology Development Company; sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Yan Qiuyan, female; sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Li Jian, male, 41, from Dazu County, graduated from Huaxi Medical University; sentenced to 13 years in prison. In 1999 he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa and was sentenced to forced labor reeducation. After he was abducted this time, he was first sent to a labor camp where suffered brutal torture, including sleep deprivation for eight days straight. Later, Mr. Li was transferred to a detention center.

Yin Yan, female; sentenced to 5 years in prison. Her father is a lawyer. In 1999 when Jiang's regime put Gu Zhiyi, a Falun Gong volunteer contact person from Chongqing City, on trial, her father was the defense attorney for Gu Zhiyi.

Other practitioners arrested include Ms. Liu Fanqin, He Mingli and Ms. Tang Guorong. Some of these practitioners were sent to forced labor camps and some still remain in detention centers.

We call upon all people with a sense of justice to help stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

Her whereabouts remain unknown at present. After the incident was exposed, the "610 Office" has blocked Ms. Wei's student documents at Chongqing University and ordered the university to announce to the outside that, "there is no such student named Wei Xingyan, and there is no such major called High Voltage Continuous Current Transmission and Simulation Technology."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Falun Gong members have sued Chinese Commerce Minister Bo Xilai in U.S. federal court for acts of genocide and torture which they said he carried out against them while a provincial governor, according to court documents made available on Friday.

Bo, in Washington this week as part of a delegation headed by Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi, was served with the legal papers on Thursday as he entered a hotel for a dinner in Wu's honor, said attorney Morton Sklar of the World Organization Against Torture USA, who represents the plaintiffs.

A State Department spokesman said he was aware a civil suit had been filed but it was unclear if the papers, filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., had been properly served.

The Chinese Embassy did not respond to a request for comment.

Before becoming commerce minister in February, Bo for three years was governor of Liao Ning province, home to the Masanjia forced labor camp and three mental hospitals. The provincial government is considered one of the worst abusers of Falun Gong practitioners, Sklar told Reuters.

Court papers said Bo "played a major role in seeking to suppress the Falun Gong spiritual movement."

Bo "planned and carried out a sustained and deliberate set of policies and actions that resulted in the arbitrary and unlawful arrest, detention, persecution and in some cases execution of the plaintiffs," the papers said.

Under international law, genocide is defined as intentional acts "to destroy in whole or part a national, ethnical, racial or religious group."

The suit said Bo's activities met this definition because "they consisted of an intentionally inflicted policy and practice, carried out under color of law, of inflicting serious bodily harm, and in a number of cases death while in detention, against members of a spiritual group."

Sklar said the suit was the fourth brought in the United States against Chinese officials for human rights abuses against Falun Gong, a spiritual movement that the communist government in Beijing considers a threat.

The State Department, in its latest human rights report, said China's government in 2003 continued its crackdown on Falun Gong and thousands of its practitioners remained imprisoned in jails, labor camps and psychiatric facilities.

Radio Free Asia New Book "Wild Grass" Released in the USA--a Story of Grassroots Movements in China

According to Radio Free Asia reporter Zijin, Ian Johnson, a Wall Street Journal reporter in the USA who won the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of Falun Gong practitioner Chen Zixiu's brutal beating death, recently published a new book named "Wild Grass

The book tells the story of how three ordinary Chinese citizens stepped forward at the grassroots level to defend their basic human rights. On March 29, the New York Asia Society, the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, and the Overseas Press Club cosponsored an evening program and book signing reception for Ian Johnson.

The author's book examines the cases of three Chinese citizens, including one from coastal China, one from Beijing, and another from Northwest China. It reflects the real situation of modern grassroots movements in different areas. The book's title, "Wild Grass" acknowledges these individuals' will to survive and thrive with little care or support.

One of the stories tells of a self-educated lawyer who helps peasants file a lawsuit against illegal taxation, and ends up being imprisoned. Although the peasants lost the lawsuit, government officials no longer dared to abuse and take advantage of them as boldly as before. Although Johnson demonstrates many shortcomings of the legal system, he also showed measured optimism, indicating that many people have now begun using legal means to expose corruption in the government. The second story is about a Qinghua University architect who tries to save Beijing's dwindling heritage from the bulldozer. The third story covers Falun Gong practitioner Chen Zixiu's daughter's appeals for her mother's unjustified death, and how she was subsequently sentenced to three years of forced labor.

--Is the Aggressiveness of Chinese Exports Based on the Exploitation and Torture of Prisoners?

Would the world's factories employ millions of slaves? "In China, a thousand grim-looking forced labor camps produce, at unbeatable prices, goods that flood our markets: wigs, jewels, toys, balls, clothes. The Chinese economy, on the way to world domination, threatens our businesses and our jobs. It is based on unacceptable working conditions, massive violations of human rights and of ILO conventions. It is shameless dumping", says the action group for true democracy in China, which has just been created in Geneva.

This action group was initiated by Régis de Battista, Director of Geneva's "Maisons des Associations" and President of the Committee of Support to the Tibetan People. He brings together NGOs, human rights groups and representatives of the persecuted spiritual movement Falun Gong. His objective is also to increase awareness on the part of the authorities and Swiss businesses of the dangers of "Chinese control over the global economy" that does not bother with a code of ethics.

De Battista hopes to relaunch two motions that he proposed while he was still a Socialist Member of Parliament in Geneva's Great Council. These projects ask particularly that the State Council study the consequences to the canton of "Chinese dumping", and that it not buy goods from this country for as long as China does not respect international norms in its conditions of production. "But to tackle the Chinese question is difficult because one is up against big interests", he says.

Several victims of this economic slavery have come to testify at Geneva. Zhang Cuiying, a famous painter of Australian nationality, spent eight months in a labor camp at Shenzen for practicing Falun Gong: "From 7am to 11pm I had to make electric candles that were then sold to Hong Kong. I was frequently beaten, shocked with electric batons, sexually abused by the prison guards, and locked in with criminals and the mentally ill. Millions of people undergo a similar fate in China."

Chen Ying, a student in France, was arrested for the same reason while visiting her family in Beijing. At the camp, she was making cuddly toy rabbits (for the subcontractor Beijing Mickey Toys), destined to promote Nestlé products. "Hygiene conditions were terrible; we slept, ate, worked and went to the toilet in the same place. And it is there also that baguettes are made for the restaurants." She was subjected to sleep deprivation and brainwashing. She was injected with a drug from which the left side of her body is still half paralyzed.

More than 1,000 labor camps, inspired by the methods of the Soviet gulags and Nazi camps, would "employ" 6.8 million in detention (of whom 100,000 are Falun Gong practitioners and hundreds of thousands of other prisoners of conscience). "Impossible to know to what extent they contribute to the Chinese economic boom ... but the system is clearly conceived to provide a vast workforce free of charge" says Jang Jei Jaw, a businessman from the United States. He chairs the NGO World Organization for the Investigation of the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG), a persecution responsible for at least 10,000 deaths according to Mark Palmer, former United States Ambassador in Beijing.

As the import of products from forced labor camps is prohibited in the United States, twenty loads from China have actually been seized, Jang added. According to him, the whole of the Chinese hair industry rests on prisoners' labor. The Henan Rebecca factory alone (which sells wigs at $100 each in the West) has a turnover of $60 million; the same for the sweater and cashmere pullover industry. United States trade unions are preparing a global denunciation of this "unfair competition."

AFP: China steps up Internet control with video surveillance in public places

China has stepped control of the Internet in its largest city Shanghai with the installation of video surveillance equipment and software in public places.

The directive from the Shanghai Culture, Radio, Film and TV Administration was designed to prevent the surfing of banned websites and to stop people under 16 from entering Internet bars, the Shanghai Daily said.

Authorities have already installed video cameras in every Internet cafe in the city so officials can keep track of youngsters' movements, the newspaper said.

The yet-to-be installed software will force users to input personal identification data to log on, while a supervisory center will monitor surfing and check whether a cafe was illegally operating at night, it said.

Foreigners will have to input their passport number.

"The software, which cost seven million yuan (850,000 dollars) to develop, can help supervise more than 110,000 computers at the city's 1,325 Internet bars and spot illegal activities immediately," the paper quoted project director Yu Wenchang as saying.

The measures are part of a six-month campaign by municipal authorities, which began this month, to crackdown on Internet bars.

Fifty-seven net bars have been punished or shut down in the city so far.

There are roughly 70 million Internet users in China, putting the world's most populous nation second behind the United States in terms of people online.

The Internet explosion is both a blessing and a curse for the Chinese authorities, who want people to be more tech-savvy without absorbing too many foreign ideas or spreading anti-government messages.

Internet users are frequently jailed for posting articles critical of the government.

My cousin, Liu Xin, is a lecturer at a university in Jinan. She is my aunt's only daughter. When Falun Dafa first began to spread in China, my parents introduced the practice to her and her parents. Maybe because of a karmic relationship, she and her parents didn't choose to cultivate.

When China started to persecute Falun Gong on a large scale, my parents were sentenced to three years in a labor camp. All of our family members were subjected to "guilt by association," so many didn't dare to approach us, but Liu Xin and her family still went to visit my parents.

On March 2002, Liu Xin complained that her abdomen felt very painful. The doctor diagnosed middle to late stage ovarian cancer. My cousin was only 25, beautiful and talented, when the doctor told my aunt that her daughter probably had only two years left to live. Surgery removed a big part of the 20 cm tumor and half of an ovary. Six months later the tumor had grown so large that a second surgery was scheduled. The whole family was depressed.

Fifteen days after they began practicing Falun Gong, my cousin had her second surgery. When her abdomen was opened, the doctor made a miraculous discovery: the tumor was not embedded in the ovary and was very easily removed. A biopsy showed no cancer cells at all, and Liu Xin was fine. The confused doctor and nurses re-examined the tissue samples from Liu Xin's previous surgery to verify that it was cancer. After one week of testing, everything is still fine.

A late stage ovarian cancer was healed fifteen days after starting to practice Falun Gong: everybody is saying it is a miracle.

I am live in Hubei Province, China. On December 10, 2002, I was diagnosed with lymphoma, an incurable cancer of the lymphatic system. At that time I felt it was the end of the world for me. My husband took me to almost all the big hospitals in the province for CT scans and every possible examination. I hoped so much that the diagnosis had been wrong, but every test result cruelly broke my heart. The physical pain was an unrelenting torture. I could barely eat a thing. Only with pain medication and sleeping pills could I get any rest. During the night, I could not sleep because of the pain. It is hard to image that kind of pain. I used to be a little bit heavy, but within just a few days my weight dropped to less than a hundred pounds. Those few days seemed like a century.

When I had lost almost all hope, my family members introduced me to the practice of Falun Gong. Since I had been influenced by the propaganda and negative coverage from the Chinese state-run media, I had originally returned the book Zhuan Falun to them several times without touching it. This time, thinking that I would give it a try, I started practicing and studying the principles of Falun Gong with them. In the beginning, I almost gave up due to the great pain I was suffering. With their full support I was able to continue practicing. Many thanks to Teacher! In just one short week the physical pain lessened. I didn't need the pain medication and sleeping pills, which I had relied on so heavily. Two weeks later, I started eating and gradually became more energetic. My physical pain actually disappeared completely! When my friends and relatives came to visit, they felt that I was just like a normal, healthy person. Seeing the great change in me, everybody felt happy for me and they all realized the power of Falun Gong. Some of them also started practicing Falun Gong.

It is Master Li who gave me a second chance at life. Everyone, please don't believe those negative reports from the Chinese state-run media and don't be blinded by those lies. Please pay attention to what is happening around you. You will discover that Falun Gong is the righteous way and truly good.

At approximately 8 o'clock on an evening in February 2004, seven police officers from Shandong Province came in two police vehicles to arrest Falun Gong practitioners who lived in a village within their jurisdiction. They abducted a male practitioner first, and then attempted to arrest a female practitioner. The husband of this female practitioner was not home at that time, so she locked the door. Without knocking on the door, the police pried open the door and broke into her home. They dragged her out, and some of the police even kicked her from behind.

As she was being dragged out, this female practitioner shouted, "Help! Criminals are attacking me!" Upon hearing her cry for help, her fellow villagers rushed out with sticks and hoes to see what was going on. They surrounded the police. The police hurriedly explained, "We are from the police station." The villagers replied, "It doesn't matter even if you are from the police station. Her husband is not home. Why do you want to arrest her?" The police showed their IDs and said, "We have IDs. We're in charge of Falun Gong." The villagers did not budge and said, "We don't care."

The police wanted to push away the villagers, but the villagers said, "If you come forward, we'll beat you with sticks. You said you're in charge of Falun Gong. Show us evidence [to justify your attempt to arrest her]."

The police took out some Falun Gong truth-clarification materials and said, "This is the evidence [note: they wanted to show that the female practitioner posted truth-clarification materials]." The villagers said, "That's fabrication." Seeing the villagers stare at them with anger, the police had to leave. Some villagers noticed that their vehicles did not even have a license plate.

Early the next morning, the police came again; however, the female practitioner was not home. The police found an old paint barrel from her home, and put it in front of her door, attempting to fabricate evidence that she painted truth-clarification signs.

According to the villagers, the town government had once held a meeting for all village party secretaries. They also intended to hold a brainwashing class later on, but the party secretaries all refused to cooperate. It is obvious that the people are awakening and coming to know the truth.

I recently got to know a man who used to be a police officer working for the "610 Office"

His mother used to suffer from various illnesses and only weighed about 80 pounds. However, after she took up the practice of Falun Gong, she recovered and also gained some weight. Therefore, he knew clearly Falun Gong was good from his mother's experience.

After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, he was dispatched to the "610 Office" to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Following his conscience, he tried his best to protect practitioners. Once, he and another policeman were supposed to ransack a practitioner's home. When he walked up to the water tank in the practitioner's home, he put his hands in the water and then he touched a bag of stuff wrapped with plastic bags. He knew that the bag contained Falun Gong books. So he pretended he did not find anything in the water tank. At that time another policeman came up and said, "How about we discharge the water and see what's in the tank?" He replied immediately, "Don't you know how much it costs to purchase one ton of water? Let's not do it." Thus he managed to protect the practitioner and his Falun Gong books. This practitioner was very grateful for the officer's righteous behavior.

Another time he learned that the police planned to ransack the home of one of his relatives who practiced Falun Gong. So he took his wife (she did not practice Falun Gong, but also knew Falun Gong was good) and went to the relative's home before the police arrived. He hid his relative's Falun Gong books around his waist. This was during the summer. Wearing a short-sleeved shirt, he looked very bulky. Right after he walked out of his relative's home, he was followed by a plainclothes police officer. But he went around and managed to lose him.

Now, he has quit his job as a policeman because he knows that persecuting Falun Gong practitioners is the same as committing a crime.

Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Solemn declaration

I am 16 years old now and learned Falun Dafa in 1998, together with my parents and my elder brother. My school study records have improved and my relationship with classmates became better and better since I started practicing Dafa. Then Falun Dafa suddenly encountered Jiang Zemin's persecution. My mother and I again went to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa.

After we were sent back from Beijing, my brother and I were immediately detained at school and were forbidden to go home for several days. Whenever a "sensitive day" came, arrangements were made to eat and stay in our teacher's home and our teacher would monitor us. In the Spring 2001, the Education Bureau set up a brainwashing program. The officials did not allow me to take regular classes. Many teachers surrounded me and talked nonsense to me. They said that if I didn't write the "guarantee statement" I would have to copy defamatory reports that slandered Falun Dafa from the newspaper; otherwise I would be sent to a brainwash session and have to pay two thousand yuan.

Due to pressure from the school and the feelings toward our teacher as well as the thoughts of my father's unlawful arrests and my mother's recent release from illegal detention, I copied the sentences from the newspaper that defamed Falun Dafa. During the course of writing I cried. I knew that I had violated Dafa and betrayed our Master. As a youngster, I even felt that my life had lost its significance.

Although what I have done was wrong and I am regretful to Dafa and Master, I didn't realize the seriousness of what I had done. In the past few years I was trying to find various excuses to distance myself from that. During a recent discussion with my mother I felt that I should break through this obstacle and should not always have a negative mindset. Today, while my mother and I were reading Minghui articles and saw the fellow practitioners' experience sharing, writing a declaration, I realized that what I did was not only a bad spot on my cultivation and had impacted the image of Dafa, but, if I don't raise my level, I would also provide a place for the evil to exist. This also interferes with Master's Fa-rectification to a certain extent. Thus, I hereby solemnly declare that all I did and said before that don't conform Dafa become invalid from now on. I will do my best to do the three things that Master asks us to do -- study the Fa, explain the facts and send upright thoughts - to make up the loss in my future cultivation and validation of Dafa.

In March 2001, my school held a so-called "Oppose the cults" signature ceremony. My class teacher knew that I practice Falun Gong, so before the signing of our names, no one in our class was told that this signature ceremony was specifically against Falun Gong. I signed my name on a large banner without knowing what it was for and felt extremely distressed afterwards. Now I declare solemnly that my signature on the banner is invalid! I will make this up by working hard and catch up with the Fa-rectification process. I won't disappoint our Master for his grand mercy and tremendous efforts for saving us.
