Whereabouts of 1.5-Year-Old Girl and Her Mother Are Unknown After Being Arrested by the Beijing Police
(Clearwisdom.net) On March 5, the Beijing police took Ms. Men Xiangrong, a
Falun Gong practitioner, her husband (not a practitioner), and her one and a
half year-old daughter to the local police station. Later, the police took Men's
husband back home and confiscated their valuables. Nobody knows where Ms. Men
and her daughter are currently.
Ms. Men Xiangrong, born in 1963, lived in room 601, Building No. 7,
Fangguyuan, Fangzhuang, Fengtai District, Beijing. She was detained in Tuanhe
Labor Camp in Beijing for over a year. Men's daughter, Men Xiaoyuan, is about
one and a half years old. On Jan 5, 2004, Ms. Men went to the Xiao District
Green Zone to hand out materials exposing the persecution. The police followed
her home and at eight o'clock that night, the Fangchengyuan Police Department (a
branch of the Fengtai District Public Safety Bureau) sent officer Li Xin and a
few people from the residential committee to surround Ms. Men's home. The police
took her, her daughter and her husband to the Fangchengyuan Police Department.
Later the police confiscated their valuables and 6,000 yuan (1). Ms. Men and her
daughter have been missing ever since.
The second day after Ms. Men and her daughter's arrest, the Public Safety
Bureau, the "610 Office," (2) and Xiaoqu Police Station had a meeting and then
claimed that they had released Ms. Men and her daughter. However, her family
members have not yet seen her or her daughter, and they are extremely worried.
Officers and organizations involved in Ms. Men and her daughter's arrest:
Xie (first name unknown) from the "610 Office" in the Fengtai District Public
Safety Bureau Branch: 86-10-638-11396
The Fangguyuan Residential Commission: 86-10-6769-6519
Li Xin, local police: 86-13801192503(C)
The Fangcheng Police Station: 86-10-6762-4532
A Falun Dafa Information Center reporter called the above organization to
confirm the facts. The Fangcheng Police Station admitted that the police officer
performing the arrest was Li Xin. Officer Li Xin did not deny this, and hung up
the phone and refused to pick up later calls. The reporter called Xie from the
610 Office in the Fengtai District Public Safety Bureau (86-10-638-11396), and
Xie admitted that Ms. Men and her daughter were arrested and implied that since
Falun Gong is banned in China, the officers who performed illegal acts against
the Falun Gong practitioners would not receive punishments. The following is the
conversation between the reporter and the "610" officer Xie.
Reporter: Is this Mr. Xie?
Xie: Yes.
Reporter: There was a woman and her daughter arrested on Jan 5 this year, and
their family has not yet heard anything from them. Do you think a government
agency should be doing that?
Xie: You are talking about Falun Gong?
Reporter: Yes. She is a Falun Gong practitioner. So when it comes to Falun
Gong practitioners, the government does not have to follow the laws?
Xie: Falun Gong is illegal and I take care of illegal issues.
Reporter: Don't you think locking up a young child together with her mother
is illegal?
Xie: How did you know the child and the mother are imprisoned?
Reporter: Because they were taken away from home and all their money at home
were also taken away. Isn't that illegal?
Xie: That is none of my business. Falun Gong is banned by the government and
is illegal to begin with.
Reporter: But Ms. Men's husband is not a Falun Gong practitioner and the
police took away all their money. How do you explain this? You did not even say
where they were imprisoned.
Xie: This has nothing to do with us. You should ask the police station that
made the actual arrest.
Reporter: So you do not think this is anything illegal? How do the officers
enforce the laws when they have such a concept of right and wrong?
Xie: Don't tell me these things. I won't listen. (Hangs up)
(1) Yuan: Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban
worker is about 500 yuan.
(2) "610 Office": a bureau specifically created by the Chinese
government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of
administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary
