Hong Kong Media Report on Falun Gong Practitioners' Parade against the Persecution in China (Photo)

On May 2, 2004, nearly seven hundred Falun Gong practitioners from Hong Kong
and other countries and areas held a parade entitled, "Peaceful Journey against
the Persecution" to oppose the five-year-long suppression of Falun Gong by the
Chinese government.
Radio Free Asia reported on May 3 that the parade set off from Causeway Bay,
passed through busy Wan Chai and concluded at the Chinese Liaison Office.
Associated Press reported that hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners marched
peacefully to the mainland Chinese government's liaison office in Hong Kong.
They held banners reading, "Rescue Falun Gong practitioners persecuted in
China."
Hong Kong media quoted local spokesperson Kan Hung-cheung, who said that
about 700 practitioners from more than 10 countries and areas participated in
the parade, and that local authorities had approved the event. During the entire
process, the Hong Kong police were very cooperative and no unexpected things
occurred.
Practitioners attended a cultivation experience sharing conference on
Saturday, May 1. So the activities on Sunday were part of a two-day event. Kan
Hung-cheung expressed his regret over the incident that more than 20 Falun Gong
practitioners from Taiwan and Macau were barred from entry to the territory by
the Hong Kong authorities.
It is reported that Ms. Chen Yunru, a high school teacher from Taiwan was one
of those who were refused to enter Hong Kong. She said that she had been to Hong
Kong last year, but was turned away this time. She said that she has never
committed any crimes whether in Taiwan or in Hong Kong. She has been a very
gentle teacher, but Hong Kong authorities refused to allow her to enter the
territory in the name of security reasons.
Over the past two years, a number Falun Gong practitioners from other
countries or areas have been banned from entering Hong Kong. The officials from
the Hong Kong Immigration Department have never provided any explanations for
this kind of incidents.
Radio France Internationale reported on May 2, that over seven hundred Falun
Gong practitioners from around the world gathered in Hong Kong to attend the
2004 Falun Dafa Cultivation Experience Sharing Conference on the International
Labor Day.
According to Central News Agency, these Falun Gong practitioners are from
Taiwan, Canada, Australia, the United States, Malaysia, Thailand, Macau and Hong
Kong. Among them, about 300 are from Taiwan and 300 from Hong Kong. Hong Kong
Falun Gong contact person Huang Jieyi told CAN reporter that some practitioners
were barred from entering the territory by Hong Kong authorities.
These Falun Gong practitioners would hold group exercises today and then
stage a grand parade entitled, "Peaceful journey against the persecution."
Asia Times reported on May 3 that more than 700 Falun Gong practitioners from
Hong Kong and other countries marched through the busy area of Hong Kong on May
2. They requested the Chinese Communist Party to release the imprisoned Falun
Gong practitioners and protest Hong Kong government for refusing 20
practitioners from Taiwan and 5 from Macau to enter Hong Kong and attend their
conference.
