On February 19, 2004, 40-year-old Dafa practitioner Ms. Peng Chunrong (born on February 22, 1970) was abducted by police from the Duzhou Town Police Station of Changshou District, Chongqing City. She was then taken to a 610 brainwashing center, where she was tortured so brutally that she was near death. The staff at the brainwashing center did not want to take responsibility for their crime against her, so they sent Peng Chunrong back to the Duzhou Town Government. The government authorities informed the party secretary of Peng's resident village to come and pick her up, but before releasing her, these same authorities demanded several thousand yuan to be paid to them first. Since the village and her family did not have that much money, the town government officials refused to release her. Peng died due to persecution between 2AM-4AM on April 11, 2004.

Learning of her death, her family members and the local residents, numbering several thousands gathered in front of the town government to demand an explanation. However, in response to this, the town government arrested all the practitioners in the town.

Before she died, Ms. Peng lived in Laojunwan of No. 9 Group in Sanping Town Baofeng Village, Changshou County, Chongqing City (now becomes Laojunwan of No. 9 Group in Duzhou Town of Baofeng Village, Changshou District of Chongqing City)
