Changchun Dafa Practitioner Li Zhiyong is on the Verge of Death in Jilin Prison By Dafa practitioner in Jilin city, China Changchun Dafa practitioner Li Zhiyong, male, aged 26, began practicing Falun
Dafa in 1995. Before being arrested for his belief, he worked in the dining hall
of the Industrial and Commercial Bank in Changchun City, Jinlin Province. He
strictly held himself to a high standard by following Falun Dafa's principles,
worked hard on every assignment, and took the initiative on the most difficult
work. All the staff members in the dining hall and even the leaders of the bank
knew that Li Zhiyong always thought kindly of other people. His good deeds and
his performance were praised by all the staff members at the bank. This honorable man, who followed "Truthfulness, Compassion,
Forbearance," was illegally arrested by Luyuan Station police in Changchun
on March 10, 2003, after Changchun City's cable TV network was tapped on March
5. After being detained for 21 months in Tiebei Detention Center, Mr. Li was
illegally sentenced to four years of imprisonment and sent to the Third Section
of Jilin Prison for detention at the end of 2003. On December 25, 2003, when his family went to visit Mr. Li, his health was
not bad. On February 15, 2004, his family went to the prison planning to visit
him again. The police in the Third Section of Jilin Prison told them that
because Li Zhiyong "refused to be reformed" [renounce Falun Dafa],
they were denying all visitation. At the strong requests of his family, they
were able to visit him again two months later, on April 15, 2004 and his health
was still alright. After May 1st, Jilin Prison changed its torture measures and
once again began a round of brutal persecution of steadfast Dafa practitioners. In the middle of May, Li Zhiyong's family received a call from Jilin Prison
telling them that Mr. Li had kidney disease. They immediately went to Jilin
Prison and requested to meet him. His family questioned the police about Li
Zhiyong's illness, and they replied, "He
was sick for one week." Under strict
surveillance, his family met with Li Zhiyong. At that time, his body was
swollen, and he was unable to eat or lie on his back. He could only lie on his
side. Li Zhiyong's body was very weak, and he told his family that he had been
in this state for over ten days. After just speaking a few words, he had no
strength to continue talking. The corrupt police told Li Zhiyong and his family,
"If you just write the 'Guarantee
Statement,' [renouncing Falun Dafa] you may be granted bail for medical
treatment." Falun Dafa practitioner Li
Zhiyong and his family firmly resisted. On May 24,2004, Li Zhiyong's family went to Jilin Prison to visit him. The
prison made all sorts of excuses and didn't let his family see him. Later on his
family guessed that Li Zhiyong was very sick and in the hospital, so they
checked the nearby hospitals one by one, and finally discovered that Li Zhiyong
was in the kidney-disease section of the Jilin City Central Hospital. Li Zhiyong
was in critical condition, suffering a combination of kidney illnesses. The
doctor who examined him told them that Mr. Li was suffering from fluid in the
heart, fluid in the stomach, a large amount of albuminuria, and that his disease
was not possible to be cured with the present medical science. Medical experts
commented, "If Li Zhoyong had no history of this disease, it is impossible
for a 26-year-old young man to contract a 'combination of kidney illnesses'
within 10 days. Only an accident, suffocation or shock from severe beating could
lead to this." When his family requested to
meet Li Zhiyong, the police feared their criminal acts would be exposed and
persistently refused to let them see him. The guard told them: "You are not
allowed to meet with him or buy anything for him." His family tried
everything, but failed to see him. Several days later, his family called Jilin Prison and asked what time they
could go to the hospital to visit Li Zhiyong. The prison police officer was
furious and shouted at his family, "How do
you know Li Zhiyong is in Central Hospital? Nobody can know where the Falun Gong
practitioners in Jilin Prison are treated for disease. It's simply outrageous.
If your family comes again, we will transfer him to another hospital and never
let you find him!" Li Zhiyong's parents took this opportunity to question
the corrupt officer: "Our son has been
persecuted to such an extent, and we made a lot of effort to find out where he
is hospitalized. How are we wrong? We have been outside of Li Zhiyong's
sickroom, and you persistently prevented us from seeing him. Why do you fear our
meeting with him?" Li Zhiyong's present condition is currently unknown. The measures that Jilin
Prison employs to persecute Dafa practitioners are severely brutal. They offer
the incentive of reduced sentences to encourage criminal prisoners to torture
Dafa practitioners. Jilin Prison fears that their evil acts will be exposed, so
they try to block all means of communication; yet we know that Liu Chengjun was
tortured to death; Wang Guiming was beaten for eight days and nights; and Zhang
Hongwei was tied up to the "death bed" for over 50 days. Li Zhiyong is
one of many Dafa practitioners currently suffering brutal persecution in Jilin
Prison. Fellow practitioners, let's send righteous thoughts to eliminate all evil
factors in other dimensions behind the persecution, and expose the evil to the
public. Appeal to human rights organizations and to people of justice around the
world, to condemn the persecution and prevent further persecution of Dafa
