This year's United Nations International Day to Support Torture Victims fell
on a weekend. Falun Gong practitioners in Washington State held an Anti-Torture
Exhibition in Victor Steinbrueck Part in Downtown Seattle. Their torture
demonstration exposed brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China
and became a rare scene in a free western country.
Passersby stopped to watch the demo. They were shocked and merged into deep
thought. Many people gained a deeper understanding of the persecution through
the demo. They signed their names to call for Washington State government to
help rescue Falun Gong practitioners in China. Local TV, Channel 4, interviewed
Falun Gong practitioners.
Truth clarification
Falun Gong practitioners demonstrated four torture methods: digging bamboo
sticks into fingers, being confined in a solitary compartment, torturing
force-feeding and tiger bench. Falun Gong practitioners explained the demo to
the audience in English, Chinese and Spanish. Even those who don't know Chinese
listened very carefully and showed great concern.
A Falun Gong practitioner asked three Chinese women at the exhibition if they
had heard about the persecution. They said they didn't know about it because
they didn't have any friend or relative who practiced Falun Gong. The Falun Gong
practitioners told them Jiang Zemin's regime had been covering up the
persecution. The women said the public wouldn't have tolerated it if they had
known these facts.
An American man originally thought such an exhibition would harm the city's
image and didn't have anything to do with Americans. Falun Gong practitioners
told him that the persecution has been carried out secretively in China. Many
Falun Gong practitioners' family didn't know it until they were tortured to
death. Falun Gong practitioners exposed the persecution in American and told
people the facts of the persecution through the media and by word of mouth. It
is bad for deceived people to assist with the crime. After it dawned upon the
man why Falun Gong practitioners held this exhibition, he praised the
practitioners for their sense of public responsibility.
Some Chinese who passed the park were reluctant to sign their names for fear
of the Chinese government's retaliation, but they were glad to visit the
exhibition and talk to Falun Gong practitioners.
Anti-Torture Exhibition shook people's heart. They invited their friends to
come see what is happening in China. Many asked about self-cultivation and said
they would go to the next exercise instruction class.
