The "Legal Education Program" at the Weihe Forestry Bureau, Shangzhi City, Heilongjiang Province - Brainwashing and Torture in Disguise

(Clearwisdom.net) In Shangzhi City, the "610 Office" (1) and the political and judiciary committee of the Weihe Forestry Bureau has set up brainwashing sessions to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners. Under the disguise of a carrying out a "legal education program," the brainwashing sessions are held at the Weihe Forestry Area Detention Center. Police officers detain practitioners with convicted criminals and torture them in cruel ways.

Zhang Maoqiu from the "610 Office" said, "The legal education sessions do not have to follow any laws and there is no limit to how often practitioners are forced to attend." The head of the detention center and guards also said that they do not care or worry about the law when it comes to dealing with practitioners. They can do whatever they want. They deliberately detain practitioners with convicted murderers and other criminals to make use of the criminals to torture practitioners. They try to brainwash practitioners by using lies, threats, intimidation, hefty fines and sending them to forced labor camps and jails. They also interfere with practitioners' family member's job, thereby threatening their steady source of income as a way to coerce them to give up their belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance."

According to the "610 Office," only when a practitioner learns to lie, curse, beat up others, smoke, and drink (2) will it be considered a "successful transformation." Otherwise, practitioners are sent to forced labor camps or jails if they have not been "transformed."

To severely persecute Dafa practitioners, the Weihe Forestry Bureau formed a system. The system is made up of a group of people and headed by the Forestry Bureau Communist Party Secretary Zhang Zhengxue, whose main job is to oversee the persecution of Falun Gong. Local street offices and police officers are required to report information and the situation of practitioners to the security section and "610 Office." To do that, they follow, monitor, harass and arrest practitioners at their homes. They also tap practitioners' phones. To encourage the reports on practitioners and their arrests, a "special" fund was created with a reward of 5000 yuan (3) for each report or arrest. This has caused rampant persecution of practitioners as the police officers and government officials act immorally as they are driven by their selfish pursuit for money.

During the past five years of persecution, about 20 Dafa practitioners have been sent to forced labor camps. Many have been sent to brainwashing sessions. Some practitioners' families have been torn apart in the persecution; some have been forced to leave their homes, some were sent to forced labor camps. The crimes are too numerous to record.

  1. "610 Office"- A bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches
  2. As practitioners who cultivate in Falun Dafa do not drink alcohol, smoke, lie, curse, or hit others, coercing them to do these things through torture and brainwashing directly targets their beliefs.
