Falun Gong practitioners in Penghu hold a candlelight vigil

During the evening of July 23, 2004, Falun Gong practitioners in Penghu lit candles to commemorate those Falun Gong practitioners who have died as a result of the persecution over the past five years. They have been courageous enough to speak the truth and safeguard morality and justice in the world. What these practitioners uphold is not only the right to believe, but also people's awakening that has been exchanged with Chinese people's blood over the past several thousand years. What they persist in is not only their own belief, but also human dignity that cannot be trampled upon.

Life is frail, but spirit lasts forever, just like candles that will ultimately burn out, but the candlelight will become eternal in the universe. Let us commemorate these courageous people who used sincerity to face lies, used kindness to resist evil, and used tolerance to confront violence. They truly gave their lives to validate that steadfast belief is worth admiring and commemorating. This non-violent resistance movement that has lasted for five years has established a milestone in history. Candlelight that represents hope illuminated the dark night. This brilliance will definitely drive out the boundless darkness and greet a bright dawn.

Killing people is wrong! It is wrong to take away a person's life for his belief and thinking. It is wrong to be falsely accused because of being truthful. It is wrong to have bad deeds imposed because of one's kindness. It is wrong to be bullied for being tolerant. Belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" upholds the most basic conscience of a living being. Please use the kindness in the depth of your soul to protect that candlelight.

Like Falun Gong practitioners in China and overseas, during the past five years of persecution, Falun Gong practitioners in Penghu have never given up their belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance." We have held various activities to help people learn about the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" and practitioners' contributions, exuding countless benefits without causing a single bit of harm to human society.

In the evening, the two largest local newspapers sent journalists to conduct interviews, and they made positive reports expressing their deep understanding and affirmation of Falun Gong.

In July this year, because of the shooting incident in South Africa, Falun Gong practitioners in Penghu spent their evenings taking to the streets to collect signatures, and explaining to tourists and local residents about how the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners has been extended overseas. On the evening of July 23, a candlelight vigil was held at the culture center to commemorate more than 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners who have died since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, to protest Jiang's state terrorism, and to call for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong.

Upholding justice is everyone's responsibility, and resisting the evil violence cannot be relaxed for even a moment. While holding the candlelight vigil, we displayed photos depicting the wide spread of Falun Dafa, along with proclamations honoring Falun Gong from countries around the world. We also collected signatures. All of the Penghu County Council members and county government officials signed their names in support.

During the evening of July 23, 2004, when people were enjoying themselves by singing and dancing at the famous Dongshan River Aquatic Park, nearly a hundred Falun Gong practitioners in Ilan silently sat on the lawn at the other side of the river, holding candles in hands, attentively protecting that candlelight, and solemnly commemorating more than 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners who have died as a result of the persecution in China.

Through a projector, practitioners displayed torture devices, torture methods, and victims and objects as evidence illustrating how the Jiang group has brutally persecuted Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioners called upon people of the world to help stop the persecution and uphold morality and justice.
