Central News Agency: Falun Gong Practitioners File Lawsuit in French Court Charging Chinese Official
(Clearwisdom.net) Central News Agency reported on July 3, 2004: Falun Gong
practitioners in France filed a lawsuit against Li Changchun, Member of the
Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Politburo, charging him as an accomplice to torture in the persecution of Falun Gong since 1999. Li Changchun will
arrive at Versailles to attend the closing fireworks ceremony of Chinese Culture
Year.
An attorney of four Falun Gong practitioners filed a lawsuit in a French
Court charging Li Changchun as a torture accomplice in the persecution of Falun
Gong. Since July 1999, the Chinese government [Jiang's faction] has persecuted
Falun Gong. Li Changchun was Communist Party Secretary in Guangdong Province.
After 2002, Li Changchun became a Member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese
Communist Politburo.
Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Jianping, who was a media contact person, said that
the number of death cases of Falun Gong practitioners in Guangdong
Province was listed at 8th among all provinces in China. Li Changchun is
in charge of culture and propaganda and involved in the persecution of Falun
Gong.
Chinese Culture Year in France formally ended today. Li Changchun
specially came to France to attend the fireworks ceremony in Versailles, north
of Paris. At Li's arrival, Falun Gong practitioners contacted an attorney
to charge him with "torture accomplice." The court accepted the petition at
3:20 p.m.
Zhang Jianping said that Falun Gong practitioners filed a lawsuit in French
court with the goal to attract the attention of people and media. He also hoped
that French government officials knew their guest participated in the
persecution of Falun Gong.
Falun Gong practitioners individually filed lawsuits in 2002 against then
Chinese Vice Prime Minister Li Lanqing and in February 2004 against Cultural
Minister Sun Jiazheng, charging them with "torture accomplices." In the case of
Li Lanqing, the court already had information about the
defendant and the judge is continuing to hear the investigation. Posting date: 7/4/2004 |
