US Congressman Dennis Moore: I Share Your Outrage at the Chinese Government's Treatment of Falun Gong Practitioners
(Clearwisdom.net) On July 22, 2004, US Congressman Dennis
Moore, from third District, Kansas, wrote to Falun Gong practitioners to express
his outrage at the Chinese Government's treatment of Falun Gong practitioners. Congressman Moore wrote in the letter: "Like you, I am
deeply concerned about China's treatment of Falun Gong practitioners. Partly
because of these concerns, I wrote to the Norwegian Nobel Institute to recommend
Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong, as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize
of 2002. I believe Mr. Li's campaign for the freedoms of belief, speech, and
assembly over the past eight years deserves international recognition.
Furthermore, I believe that the consideration of Mr. Li for the Nobel Peace
Prize will help to focus the world's attentions on the plight of Falun Gong
practitioners in China." "You may also be interested to learn that in the last
Congress I cosponsored two resolutions (H.Con.Res. 68 and H.Con.Res. 188)
expressing the sense of Congress that China should stop its persecution of
religious practitioners and safeguard fundamental human rights. Both resolutions
call on the Chinese government to release from detention all Falun Gong
practitioners and stop the use of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading
treatments against practitioners." Congressman Moore said: "I share your outrage at the
Chinese government's treatment of Falun Gong practitioners. Let me assure you
that I will continue to monitor the situation and to work for advances in human
rights in China. Thank you again for contacting me. I hope you will continue to
keep in touch and please feel free to let me know whenever I may be of
assistance." |
