In April 2004, Dafa practitioner Wang Shugeng of the 2^nd Team in Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp was verbally abused, beaten and tied up for a long time by instructor Zhou Xiangyu because he read Teacher's articles. His detention period was extended for three months. Chen Song and several practitioners conducted a hunger strike to protest the persecution, but instead they were even more severely tormented by the labor camp police. Song Baishun ordered others to handcuff Chen Song to a stool and force-feed him with salt water. Song has instructed the guards to monitor Chen Song strictly. The torture caused him to become semi-comatose for more than half a month. The guards even stole all his clothes and necessities. Another Dafa practitioner Zhang Jiaan was handcuffed to a stool by several policemen of the 2^nd Team. The policemen stepped on him and tortured him with electric batons for a long time, and then they handcuffed him to a bed for about two weeks. They did not take off the handcuffs even when he wanted to use the toilet.

Recently, 30 practitioners from an eastern suburb of Xi'an City have been arrested. It was reported that an elderly practitioner surnamed Xing was arrested first. Then, the spouse was threatened and bribed into giving the names of 30 fellow practitioners. It is said that one of them is a female accountant of the Xi'an Finance and Economics Institute.

Practitioner Mr. Shi Bin is being held in the 1^st prison area of Tiebei Jail in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Because he refused to comply with the police's demands, he was tortured once in May. In June, because Shi Bin refused to practice the military formation, the instructor of the 1^st prison area Zhong Hui tortured him with " The Big Hang Up" method (1) for 17 days.

On August 4, Haizhu District "610 Office" personnel abducted Guangzhou City practitioner Xue Kunxiang. Her whereabouts are unknown. Xue Kunxiang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained for more than a year in the forced labor camp. She was only back home for half a year before she was arrested again.

Recently, Haizhu District "610 Office" has been arresting practitioners. About a month ago, two middle-aged female practitioners were searched and found to be carrying Dafa truth-clarification materials. They are being held in the forced labor camp.

Practitioner Ms. Zhao Lihua is an employee of Xuanhua Steel Company in Xuanhua District, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. On July 29, while she was working, section chief Wu and security guard Zhang of Xuanhua Steel Company arrested her. She was held in Xuanhua Brainwashing Center (in the courtyard of Xuanhua Professional Education Center), and then transferred to the Zhangjiakou City "Legal Education School", which is actually a brainwashing center.

On August 5, 2004, Zhang Guofu and other policemen from Cangzhou City Xinhua Public Security Sub-bureau broke the security door of practitioner Zhang Hong's home. They filled out a search warrant on the spot, searched her home and kidnapped Zhang Hong. She is now being held in the Cangzhou City Daodong Police Station.

Lianyungang City "610 Office" personnel are currently forcing practitioners to attend brainwashing programs at the "Five Thousand Years Hotel." It is said that practitioners being detained include Jiao Jiaqian, Zhao Xuhui, Liu Shuyie and Zhong Chongbing. Zhao Xuhui has escaped. Jiao Jiaqian and Liu Shuyie are still being detained and have not yielded to the persecution.

On the night of July 30, 2004, Yushu City practitioners Xuan Zhaoru and Jiao Shoutong were arrested at an Internet cafe on Jianshe Commercial Street in Yushu City. Following instructions from Sun Zhongxing, the Yushu City Political and Judiciary Secretary and Committee member Zhang Deqing arrested the two practitioners. They detained the practitioners at Yushu City Detention Center, and then searched their home, confiscating two computers, a photocopier, a camera, a VCD player, cash and other personal belongings. The two children at the home were also held in custody but later released on bail, which was paid by a family member.

Moreover, Yushu City Public Security Bureau requires that all taxi drivers have a public security card. The district police must write comments on their job application, such as "No criminal record; does not practice Falun Gong." Otherwise the application will not be processed and the driver will not be allowed to begin. Since 2003 the Yushu City Television Station has barred Falun Gong practitioners from applying for jobs there.

Anhui Province Suzhou City No. 3 Prison is detaining more than 100 practitioners. There is also a provincial brainwashing center in Suzhou City.

According to information from the prison, practitioner Du Shangwei was brutally tortured for clarifying the facts about Falun Dafa and the persecution to former practitioners who had been brainwashed. Du has been transferred to the brainwashing center. Recently, Du's face and many places on his body were seen to bear marks from violent torture. It is said that police instigated criminals to beat practitioners, and claimed that an internal document of the prison permitted the implementation of all means to "transform" Falun Gong practitioners. Some detained practitioners are force-fed and locked up in isolation cells. Further details are being collected.

After 7 p.m. on July 18, 2004, a materials production (2) site in Zhuanghe District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province was broken into. Materials and equipment were confiscated, and practitioner Ms. Ren Yazhi was taken away. At around 10 a.m. on July 19, 2004, a practitioner was arrested when he visited the site.

From May 21 to 26, 2004, the police destroyed several materials production sites in Dandong District. They confiscated all the equipment and belongings, and even took away the practitioners' keys. About 20 practitioners were arrested, includes the materials production sites in nearby areas.

At 9 a.m. on June 22, 2004, police from Chengguan Public Security Sub-bureau in Zhuanghe District, Dalian City arrested practitioner Ms. Ren Xiujuan. An hour later, the police returned and arrested practitioner Xu Bo. The arrests were made without any documents. The police also took away a box of VCDs, and they forced Ms. Xu's husband to take them to his home to conduct a search. They also harassed a practitioner who lived upstairs.

In June 2001, Hebei Province Xingtai City practitioner Ms. Tang Hui went on a hunger strike for 15 days. When she was extremely weak, the assistant manager of No. 2 Detention Center Liu Xiaoming abused his power and tortured Tang Hui.

On June 16, 2001, Liu grabbed Tang Hui by the hair and smashed her head on the cement floor. Then he pushed her outside and cuffed her hands and feet. Moreover, he instructed two male criminals to step on her shoulders and legs. Tang Hui was exposed to the burning sun for half a day. Her head was injured from the beating. She often suffers dizziness and headaches, and her tailbone was fractured. She was X-rayed and had a CT scan.

Changchun City practitioner Yan Huawei was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment by Changchun Intermediate People's Court for producing truth-clarification materials. Recently Yan was secretly transferred to Heizuizi Women's Prison from Changchun No. 3 Detention Center. Practitioner Zou Jihua, who was sentenced at the same time, has been sent to Siping Prison.

"Big Hang Up" - There are two forms in this torture: 1) With both hands cuffed behind the back and only toes touching the ground, one is hung by a rope that is tied to the metal window frames; 2) One hand of a practitioner is cuffed to one bunk bed and the other hand to another bed, and the two beds are pulled in the opposite directions.

(2) Materials Production Sites: Places set up by practitioners to print flyers, pamphlets, posters, etc. with factual information about Falun Gong and the persecution, counteracting China's state-run media propaganda.
