Recent Developments Concerning the Persecution of Dafa Practitioners in Hubei Province

(Clearwisdom.net) According to information received from Hubei Province, on July 14 and 15, 2004, people in the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Judicial and Public Security Committee called a conference. They alerted all assistant secretaries of the local party committees who are in charge of the judicial and public security, and the secretaries of local judicial and public security committees throughout the province to attend this meeting, which was convened specifically for the persecution of Falun Gong.

Recently, the number of Dafa practitioners arrested in Hubei Province has increased, and the provincial brainwashing center has also become more frenetic in its persecution tactics. In an attempt to undermine Dafa practitioners' righteous belief, personnel from the provincial "610 Office" (1) have abducted, detained and sent Dafa practitioners to brainwashing centers in a pre-arranged manner. The desks of the local "610 Offices" hold stacks of forms for registering Dafa practitioners. Massive manpower and material and financial resources have been mobilized. All the lower-level street and residential committees have been busily involved in sending these forms to different companies, institutions and work units for gathering Dafa practitioners' data, including their basic circumstances, their behavior, whether they were "reformed" (2) and the names of personnel assigned to monitor them. Some of the work units have sent personnel to Dafa practitioners' homes with plans to forcibly send them to brainwashing centers. Some areas have empowered the police to use the implication system, which can also be described as "guilt by association." This means that if any institution or work unit finds any posted Dafa truth-clarification materials and does not immediately erase or cover it over, and if the posted materials are recorded on film, then the head of the institution or the work unit can be immediately removed from his position by a verbal order.

(1) The "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

(2) "Reformed" refers to a practitioner having publicly renounced Falun Dafa.
