Tan Zaizhi, who used to work at a Chinese pharmacy in an herbalist hospital, had suffered from nephritis (an acute or chronic inflammation of the kidneys), and many other illnesses. Since she had no money to see doctors, her illness deteriorated until she was diagnosed with uremia, a toxic condition brought upon by her untreated kidney disease. Tan Zaizhi began practicing Falun Gong in 1997, and she experienced a recovery from her illnesses. On February 14, 2000, Tan Zaizhi participated in Dongchuan's outdoor Falun Gong group exercise practice which resulted in her unlawful arrest. After being detained for 27 days, she was dismissed by the hospital she worked for. The district's "610 Office," and police station ordered Tan Zaizhi's husband, who worked for an agricultural bank, to stop her from practicing Falun Gong, or they threatened his salary would be stopped. Her husband and son, under threats and pressure from the authorities, destroyed Tan Zaizhi's tape recorder, exercise tapes, and hid her Falun Dafa books. Tan Zaizhi could not study the teachings of Falun Dafa and could not practice after her tape recorder was destroyed. Her physical state began to deteriorate and her entire body was in edema. Her family members and a doctor colluded together, and tricked her into going to the hospital for a medical check up. At the hospital, her family members had her admitted. Against Tan Zaizhi's will the doctor gave her a blood transfusion, and injected her with some medicine, but was unable to stop the progress of her disease. On April 26, 2001, after falling asleep, Tan Zaizhi passed away at midnight.

Yin Shizhong, a 78-year-old man, found that after beginning to practice Falun Gong in 1997, an injury he received from his younger days disappeared. His hair turned from grey to black, his complexion was rosy, his voice became deeper, and he could take care of himself without assistance. He was the Xincun Village practice site assistant. After Jiang's persecution of Falun Gong began and under high pressure from the authorities, he was forced to turn in his Dafa books, exercise instruction videos, exercise tapes, and renounce his belief in Falun Dafa. As a result of no longer practicing Falun Gong, his ailments resurfaced, and he could hardly walk. On the evening of January 21, 2004, the eve of Chinese Spring Festival, Yin Shizhong passed away. His daughters cremated his body quietly with no friends present. Also, Ren Xiuhua, Xu Fengshu, Li Qirong, Du Maochun, Huang Zhengqing, and the elder brother of a practitioner with the surname Zhang, all by practicing Falun Dafa, attained healthy bodies, full of happiness and energy. But under the Jiang's regime's pressure, they all gave up practicing Falun Gong, and then passed away.

In 1997, Deng Jiafu and his wife began to practice Falun Gong. Various illnesses of theirs were healed without any treatment. Especially noticeable was that Deng's wife became good-natured, and lived her life according to the principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance." Everyone at the practice site liked her. During the Chinese New Year, their eldest son from Zhaotong, Yunnan Province came home, saw that his parent's physical health and previous attitudes toward life and improved considerably after learning to practice Falun Gong. When he returned to Zhaotong, he formed a local practice site, and became Zhaotong district's volunteer assistant. Near the end of July in 1999, he organized an outdoor Falun Gong group practice to let the public know that Falun Dafa is great. After conducting this activity, he was arrested by the "610 Office" and the Politics and Law Committee, and was detained for one week. The authorities also ransacked his home many times. All of his Dafa books, Teacher's lecture videotapes, tapes, exercise instruction videotapes, and exercise tapes were taken away. His wife became frightened of what the police might do to them and did not allow him to practice, or to communicate with other practitioners. Otherwise, she threatened, she would file for divorce. She even called his parents to put more pressure on him. His brother who did not know the facts about Falun Gong also called to blame his parents.

Under pressure from his family, residents of Dongchuan District, and his work place, Deng Jiafu agreed to give up practicing Falun Gong. He moved to Qujing to live with his younger son. Right now Deng Jiafu and his wife have been suffering from all kinds of illnesses. Deng Jiafu is suffering after having a stroke, which left him paralyzed and distorted his facial expression. His wife is suffering from rheumatism arthritis and lumbar bone hyperplasia. She can't even walk and has to use a wheelchair to go out with the daily assistance of a nurse.
