A Look Back: Thousands of Dafa Practitioners in Dalian City Peacefully Appealed on July 20, 1999

(Clearwisdom.net) On July 19, 1999, Jiang personally directed the illegal arrests of Falun Gong practitioners and volunteer assistants in Dalian City, Liaoning Province. From July 19 to July 21, thousands of Falun Gong practitioners from Dalian City went to the city government and the Appeals Office to ask for the people arrested. The city government, however, did not release those people. Instead, it used large numbers of military policemen and teams of anti-riot police to suppress them.

On the morning of July 20, 1999, thousands of Falun Gong practitioners from Dalian City lined up near the sidewalk outside the city government buildings, forming four lines all together. Hand in hand, they peacefully expressed their wishes to the government.

At about 7:00 a.m., groups of policemen began attacking these Dafa practitioners in public, starting with the male practitioners. After the young male practitioners, they then began pulling out the rest of the male practitioners from the lines, regardless of their ages, and savagely beating them. Several policemen would beat one practitioner. Practitioners' heads were bleeding, their bodies were badly wounded and most had lost their shoes. Then the policemen tossed them into one police vehicle after another, and took them to Xinghai Harbor in Dalian City. There, they searched their persons, robbed them of all their cash and then pushed them from the vehicles. These injured practitioners, now barefoot and penniless, bravely walked back to the Dalian City Government compound to continue peacefully appealing and making their voices heard. By the time they reached the government gate, it was already 3:00 p.m. Those Dafa practitioners who were still in front of the government building remained unshaken and had refused to leave, even after the policemen kicked and beat them, shocked them with electric batons and hit them with hard rubber nightsticks. The scene was brutal to behold yet moving at the same time.

At about 5:00 p.m., the city government officials pushed all the practitioners into buses that had been dispatched. From there, the practitioners were transported to schools in the suburbs that were temporarily used for detention. They were held there past 10:00 p.m. and were not released to go home until after they were forced to write down their names and work units.

During this time, the Falun Dafa practitioners saw some sacred scenes. At about 7:00 a.m., a little Dafa practitioner beside me suddenly clapped his hands and said happily, "Master has come! Master has come!" The practitioners looked up into the sky and each saw a different scene. Ignoring the feet, fists, batons, and sticks with which they were being beaten; the practitioners exchanged looks and communicated with one another. What I saw then was that the sky was filled with Faluns. Master was sitting on a huge Falun, surrounded by numerous Fa-guarding Gods. Countless Faluns floated down from the sky, landing on fellow practitioners, houses and streets. Some practitioners saw dragons and phoenixes, while others reported seeing heavenly soldiers and generals.

At that time, the policemen stopped beating practitioners and also looked up into the sky, seeing brightly colored lights and constantly changing clouds that were very unusual.

Such sacred scenes lasted for at least twenty minutes, after which, the policemen stopped beating people. They just pushed the Dafa practitioners to the outside. The anti-riot police that had been summoned from the adjacent counties and cities were the ones who beat people later on.
