Liu Ziwei of Jilin Province Was Tortured to Death, Family Members' Appeal Rejected

(Clearwisdom.net) Liu Ziwei, a Falun Gong practitioner from Hunjiang City, Jilin Province, was tortured to death at Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City. Liu's family refused to cremate him and requested an investigation into the cause of his death. However, the family was pressured from all levels of the government to give up the investigation. They are now asking for support and public attention for this case.

Liu Ziwei, 29 years old, was from Hunjiang City, Jilin Province. On December 3, 2004, police from the Dongxing Police Station in Baishan City unlawfully broke into Liu's home and arrested him. On December 10, he was sent to the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp, which is located in Changchun City, Jilin Province.

On December 13, before 1 pm, Liu told his family during visiting hours that he was hung up and beaten because he wouldn't give up his faith in "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. "

The labor camp officials later told Liu's family that his death occurred at 10 o'clock on December 13, and it was from natural causes. They also suggested cremating the body. However, according to a doctor, the cause of death was unclear. Liu's family requested an investigation and refused to cremate him. Liu's remains are now being examined. In Changchun, Liu's 30 family members are now waiting for the result, which will come out in 20 days. Keeping Liu Ziwei's remains in the hospital costs 160 yuan a day. His family has spent over 10,000 yuan to pay for all the expenses. They have appealed for help at various government levels, but were rejected. The government officials consider the family to be "causing trouble." They have threatened to arrest any family members who appeal again.

Liu's family has consulted many lawyers, but since this matter relates to Falun Gong, no lawyer is willing to take the case. The family faces great difficulty, and is asking for assistance from international human rights groups, international organizations, and attorneys who have a sense of justice.
