The "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" International Art Exhibition: Introduction and List of Works (Images) (Clearwisdom.net) The "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance"
International Art Exhibition consists of five sections:
"Enlightenment," "The Beauty of Cultivation,"
"Uncompromising Courage," "Calling for Justice," and
"Justice Prevails." The exhibition displays the beauty of Falun Gong
cultivation practice and the uncompromising spirit of the many Dafa disciples
who, with merciful compassion, are clarifying the truth and saving sentient
beings during the more-than-five-year brutal persecution of Dafa. The exhibition
also exposes the fact that Jiang Zemin's faction colludes with the Chinese
Communist Party to violently persecute Falun Gong. It also reveals that
"good and evil will receive due karmic retribution," an irreversible
universal principle. The "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" International Art
Exhibition includes all the works in the "Uncompromising Spirit" art
exhibition, which mainly depicts the Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong.
This exhibition has been exhibited in the U.S., Canada, Indonesia and Korea.
Some viewers told us that the paintings immediately helped them understand
certain issues that were difficult to understand with words, including issues
that practitioners had talked about but which had not aroused people's
attention. This kind of comprehensive visual information directly touches
people's hearts and awakens people's conscience and goodwill. It also
effectively shocks the evil in different dimensions. The exhibition is a
powerful weapon to completely deny the old force's arrangement in the cultural
domain. It is an effective way to expose their deceit and lies. The first
"Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" International Art Exhibition was
held in Boston last December. Among the works displayed, "War Between the
Righteous and the Evil," "Vows," "Sound of Fa Drums"
and "Pure Lotus," were exhibited for the first time. It is precisely the deep inner meaning of Fa-rectification expressed in the
artworks and the excellent skill of the artists that make the art exhibition so
inspiring. Therefore, whenever the artworks are exhibited, a chain-reaction is
created whereby surrounding venues successively send requests to hold the same
exhibition. Art has its special power in clarifying the truth. We hope that more
countries and regions will actively participate in this project and allow the
"Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" International Art Exhibition to
flourish everywhere, with even more success. Image Title/Artist/Artwork
Information Description Section I: Enlightenment 1 The Great Law Rectifies the
Cosmos The Lord of Buddhas sits on a Lotus flower
platform in a heavenly wagon pulled by five golden dragons. He spins the
great Falun (Law wheel) with a majestic imposing gesture and leads the
Gods to create the new universe and save immeasurable sentient beings. The
scene is enormous and powerful. 2 Buddha This imposing statue of a merciful Buddha
expresses the artist's highest respect to the Lord of Buddhas. 3 Fulfilling Vows Numerous divine beings descend from heaven
to the human world to fulfill their vows. The Falun (Law wheel) hangs high
and the characters look dignified, auspicious, and peaceful. Section II: The Beauty of
Cultivation 4 Assimilation The brother and sister in this painting are
reading Zhuan Falun, the main book of Falun Dafa teachings. The
spinning, red light above is an expression of the book's enriching
teachings. Zhuan Falun has been translated into more than twenty
languages. 5 In Harmony The artist was inspired by the situation
of, "three flowers gathering above the head" which was described
in book, Zhuan Falun. It is an extraordinarily wonderful phenomenon
manifested in other dimensions when cultivators reach a certain level in
their cultivation. Taking the blue sky and the sea as the background, the
painting shows that heaven, earth and the practitioner are integrated into
one body. 6 Pure Lotus The woman in this painting practices the
sitting meditation, the fifth exercise of Falun Gong. Lotus flowers
blooming around her indicate the purifying effect of the meditation on
both mind and body. Section III: Uncompromising
Courage 7 Red Wall "Red Wall" symbolizes that the
Chinese Communist Party's dictatorship turns the entire country of China
into a prison. The huge Chinese characters "ղѹ"
(meaning "suppression") construct the terrible, gloomy,
oppressive and bloody red wall, behind which, Falun Gong practitioners are
suffering cruel tortures. However, they do not succumb, and instead, their
unyielding spirit shines forth. The angel above is attentively looking at
what is happening on the earth. The red wall is already cracked and the
wall base is about to collapse, which symbolizes that the suppression is
doomed to be defeated. 8 Unwavering Spirit This painting is based on a true story as
reported by Ian Johnson, a reporter from The Wall Street Journal. In the
article, he wrote, "The day before Chen Zixiu died, her captors again
demanded that she renounce her faith in Falun Dafa. Barely conscious after
repeated jolts from a cattle prod, the 58-year-old stubbornly shook her
head. Enraged, the local officials ordered Ms. Chen to run barefoot in the
snow. Two days of torture had left her legs bruised and her short black
hair matted with pus and blood, said cellmates and other prisoners who
witnessed the incident. She crawled outside, vomited and collapsed. She
never regained consciousness, and died on Feb. 21." 9 Smoke and Ash Burning practitioners with red-hot objects
is one of hundreds of torture methods used against Falun Gong
practitioners who refuse to give up their beliefs. The vicious police use
cigarettes to burn victims' faces, sensitive areas of their bodies and
even their private parts. This form of torture includes using cigarette
lighters to burn practitioners' faces (even to burn their eyebrows off),
their chins, hands, thighs, or private parts. At other times, specially-made iron bars
are heated in burning charcoal until they become red-hot. They are then
used to burn practitioners' chests and thighs. 10 Tiger Bench This work depicts a common torture method
used to inflict severe, prolonged pain. Bricks are stacked beneath the
feet of the practitioner while ropes tying the legs down are pulled taut,
bringing the legs to the point of breaking. The artist has given both men
an ethereal halo - one bright, one dark and ghostly. The stark difference
suggests what might be awaiting both men after this lifetime, based on the
choices they have made. Other tortures are often used on the victim
at the same time, including shocking the victim with electric batons,
restraining the hands behind the back with handcuffs, and so on. 11 Torture of a Woman Accounts by female prisoners of conscience
who have lived through torture in Chinese detention centers detail
horrendous physical and sexual torture not only by prison guards, but at
the hands of prison inmates as well. It has been reported that some women
who practice Falun Gong have been stripped naked and locked into male
prison cells. 12 Abuse The scene in this painting is based on a
true story: On February 14, 2002, 40 western Falun Gong practitioners from
across the world traveled to Beijing, China to peacefully appeal to the
Chinese government to stop its persecution of Falun Gong. They unfurled a
large yellow banner on Tiananmen Square and shouted, "Falun Dafa is
great!" The practitioners were immediately arrested by the Chinese
authorities. A western woman practitioner was arrested and physically
abused by police, and then was expelled from China. 13 Like a Stone With this torture, the police use a
screwdriver or other sharp object to stab the back of practitioners'
hands, attempting to force them to give up their belief in Falun Dafa. The
victim will bleed profusely and often pass out due to the excruciating
pain. Such torture is extremely brutal. Other
similar means include: nailing bamboo spikes into practitioners' fingers,
hitting practitioners' hands with hard-soled shoes, hammering
practitioners' hands with a hammer or drilling into practitioners' hands
with an electric drill. 14 Force Feeding Once in jail and subjected to brutal
torture, brainwashing and forced labor, Falun Gong practitioners have no
means of appeal other than a hunger strike. Prison guards often use
force-feeding as a form of torture. During force feedings, the guards
restrain the victim and pry open the mouth with metal clamps. They then
force a coarse rubber tube down the esophagus or insert a tube through the
nostrils. They pour in substances such as a mixture of water and cornmeal,
concentrated salt solutions, hot chili paste and even human excretory
waste. The intention is to inflict pain so as to break the will. Such
torture is extremely painful and is the most common cause of death of
practitioners in detention. 15 Inhumane In order to coerce Falun Gong a
practitioner to give in and renounce his belief, prison guards are
submerging a man's head into a bucket of human feces. One of the guards
covers his own nose because of the odor. A pregnant female Falun Gong
practitioner has been hung up in the background. The artist said,
"This painting is based upon true stories. In the persecution of
women practitioners, hanging up is a common form of torture. I'm really
unable to depict. those extremely shameless and cruel torture
methods." 16 Psychiatric Abuse To turn public opinion against Falun Gong,
China's state-run media disseminates false propaganda that claims people
who practice Falun Gong will turn psychotic. The policemen in this picture
inject psychotropic drugs into the woman because she refuses to give up
her belief. The drugs often cause slurred speech, paralysis or even death.
China's renowned painter Qi Baishi's granddaughter, nearly-70-year-old Ms.
Qi Bingshu is being held in a psychiatric hospital simply because she
refuses to give up her practice of Falun Gong. The kindness of the young
lady in the picture strongly contrasts with the brutality of the vicious
police. Although she is physically tortured, her heart is longing for
wonderfulness. In the beam of light, there are two angel-like infants, one
of whom holds a crown, extolling her unyielding spirit. 17 Unmovable This painting, in traditional Chinese
style, shows a woman in meditation, unmoved by police who are trying to
arrest her. Angels are trying to restrain the policemen. The artist paints
from personal experience, having endured firsthand the violence of the
persecution. She was detained several times before she was finally able to
escape from China. 18 Group Torture The men torturing this young woman are
Chinese prison guards and prison inmates, working in concert. The extreme
weight on her lower abdomen severely inhibits the practitioner's breathing
and can result in paralysis. This is a common form of torture used to
force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their belief. All kinds of
tortures are for the same purpose, namely forcing practitioners to give up
their practice and to write the so-called 19 Relentless Hanging up is a common form of torture used
to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their belief. While being
hung up, victims are often beaten with stick or leather whip. Long period
of hanging up often results in both arms being disabled. 20 A Tragedy in China A wife weeps beside her husband, who has
been tortured to death at a brainwashing center. He holds in his hand a
document that the authorities tried to force him to sign, a pledge that
defames Falun Gong. Brainwashing is also a common form of torture used
against Falun Gong practitioners. The husband was murdered because he
refused to "be transformed." The artist use exquisite technique
of contrast to create depth, which makes people feel as if they were
present on the scene. 21 "Cage" This is a common form of torture used
against Falun Gong practitioners who refuse to give up their practice.
While being detained, almost all Falun Gong practitioners are forced to
squat on their heels or on tiny stools with ridges on them day and night
without being allowed to move or speak. The prison guards or criminal
inmates constantly monitor practitioners. The long-term squatting and
sitting often results in practitioners' buttocks becoming bloody and
festered. 22 Come Back Daddy This painting is based on a true story of a
mother and daughter. The young girl, Fadu, holds a commemorative picture
of her father, Chen Chengyong, who died from torture because of his
practice of Falun Gong. Fadu and her mother, Zizheng Dai, now live in
Australia. In more than two years, the mother and daughter have traveled
to nearly 40 countries to call upon people to help stop this persecution
which has brought tragedy to countless families. 23 Why? This painting is based on a true story. A
mother and son were arrested in China simply because they practice Falun
Gong. After being beaten, the boy held back his tears asking: Why? Why did
the policemen beat my mom and me? 24 Homeless This painting depicts a scene in which a
little girl comes home from school only to find her parents gone. The two
pieces of white paper on the door are official notices stating that the
house has been condemned by the 610 Office, a Gestapo-like organization
set up specifically to target Falun Gong. The red paper on the door reads,
"Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." The little girl has
suddenly become homeless. 25 The inspiration for this painting came from
a true story that has raised an international outcry. A young mother named
Lixuan Wang and her 7-month-old son were both tortured to death after they
were arrested for practicing Falun Gong. Autopsy reports revealed that the
baby had been hung upside down and his skull had been crushed. In the
picture, Lixuan Wang and her son rest peacefully on the ground, where
golden lotus flowers blossom. 26 Memorial This painting is in remembrance of some of
the more than 1,200 Falun Gong practitioners who are known to have died
under the brutal repression. The artist said, "I painted the faces of
280 practitioners to let more people see these good people and to help
stop this persecution. Look at how happy they were! They were all very
good people in society. Whenever I think of them, I cannot hold back my
tears... you know, some of them were only seventeen or eighteen years old
when they were tortured to death." Section IV: Calling for
Justice 27 Messenger On an early morning, a young woman places a
message, "Falun Dafa is Good" (red Chinese characters in the
painting) on a wall. All the media in China are controlled by the
government and spread propaganda to create hatred towards Falun Gong. Over
the past five years, practitioners risk great danger to deliver
truth-clarifying materials to millions of homes. As a consequence, many
practitioners have been arrested, imprisoned, tortured and even beaten to
death. 28 Banner The young woman is sewing a banner with the
words, "Falun Dafa is Good," in both Chinese and English. The
child is quietly listening to the Falun Dafa lecture by her side. The
peaceful scene is a portrait of Falun Gong practitioners' daily life. 29 Lotus Candle Numerous candlelight vigils have been held
around the world to remember Falun Gong practitioners who have died from
torture. The lotus flower is a symbol of enduring beauty and purity in
Chinese culture. Since 1999, when the Chinese Communist Part started
suppressing Falun Gong, each July, practitioners hold a candlelight vigil
in front of the Washington Monument in Washington, DC to commemorate the
Falun Gong practitioners who have died for upholding the truth. The
composition of this picture is traditional, namely, the character is put
in the center, so as to express a sense of dignity and sacredness. The
lotus lamps seem to be alive: they are moving and recounting... The gentle
and warm light shines over the girl's pure and solemn face, which
manifests a sense of persevering strength in the peaceful scene. She holds
in her hands a lotus candle, which represents the precious heart presented
by Dafa disciples to the world. The lotus candle illuminates the world.
The lotus candles in the background represent hundreds of thousands of
Dafa disciples. The cruel torture depicted in the lower part of the image
is to help people understand that she is commemorating fellow
practitioners who died from the persecution. Falun Gong practitioners risk
their lives to unfurl a banner with the words,
"Truth-Compassion-Forbearance." The banner also shines, just
like a lamp, bringing light and hope in the darkness. 30 Coming for You This painting is inspired by a photograph
taken of thirty-three practitioners of Falun Gong from all over the world
who coordinated a peaceful appeal to the Chinese Government on Tiananmen
Square on November 20, 2001. Risking their lives, the Western Falun Gong
practitioners from 13 countries traveled thousands of miles to Tiananmen
Square, and unfurled a banner with words in both Chinese and English,
reading, "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." This event has
moved the entire world. The painting is a portrait of that moment. Moments
after the photograph was taken, the practitioners were thrown into police
vans, many were beaten and then all were expelled from China. In the
picture, golden light shines everywhere. In both heaven and earth, all
attention is focused on this historic moment. 31 Calling for Justice This painting depicts a scene that can be
seen in front of Chinese embassies and consulates all around the world
over the past more than five years. The practitioners silently tell people
that Falun Dafa is great. The women in this picture practice their
meditation in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., calling
for Jiang Zemin to be brought to justice for his genocide against Falun
Gong. These women go to appeal there every day, rain or shine. 32 "SOS" In this Chinese-style landscape painting,
walking through the mountains are men and women taking part in a human
rights "SOS" campaign that has been carried out around the world
to raise awareness about the genocide of Falun Gong in China. Gods in
heaven are also paying attention to Dafa disciples' magnificent actions. 33 This painting was based on the true story
of Mr. Liu Chengjun. Liu Chengjun was a Falun Gong practitioner from
Northern China. In March 2002, he was sentenced to 19 years in prison for
his involvement in broadcasting programs that exposed the brutality of the
persecution against Falun Gong on Chinese television. After 21 months in
prison, he was tortured to death. Demonic and monster-like images on the
floor represent the horrors he endured while in detention. He is bathed in
warm, golden light that represents a resilient faith. 34 Righteous Actions This traditional Chinese painting depicts a
scene in a moonlit night in a small village, where a grandmother and her
grandchild post messages that tell the truth about the persecution against
Falun Gong to their neighbors. The disc-like objects in the sky are Falun,
the symbol of Falun Gong. 35 A Spring Morning in a Town The traditional Chinese painting depicts a
spring morning in a town when people wake up to find the walls posted with
signs about Falun Gong. The people read them intently, seeing through the
Chinese government's anti-Falun Gong propaganda. 36 Waist Drum In many major cities around the world,
people who practice Falun Gong participate in parades to celebrate
traditional Chinese culture. The artist has drawn celestial beings playing
amidst the clouds, echoing the unified drumbeat from below. Part V: Good and Evil
Receive Due Retribution 37 A Battle Between Good and
Evil The man and woman in the forefront hold
signs that read, "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance," and "The
Law rectifies the universe." The spirits of the plainclothes
policemen bow before their victims, suggesting that the police have been
deluded by the Chinese government authorities into carrying out orders
against their own conscience. Countless Falun Gong practitioners have been
to Tiananmen Square to unfurl banners to express their belief and wishes.
Those police officers wantonly beat, arrest and even murder practitioners.
The depiction of the characters and scene in the painting all originated
from actual photographic records. A war is playing out between the
righteous and the evil. In heaven, immortal beings are clearing away the
evil beings. 38 The Heavens Speak This painting illustrates the artist's
personal experience. When China's former leader, Jiang Zemin, visited
Houston, Texas in October 2002, thousands of people who practice Falun
Gong went there to appeal for an end to the persecution. During their
appeal, practitioners withstood several days of severe cold weather and
heavy rains. The practitioners refused to be affected by the weather and
stood their ground. Finally, the storm cleared and a huge rainbow appeared
in the sky. This painting captures that moment. 39 Peoples' Tribunal This painting depicts a public mock
tribunal held in Ottawa, Canada in which China's former leader, Jiang
Zemin, was tried and convicted for genocide of Falun Gong and crimes
against humanity. Those wearing yellow shirts are Falun Gong
practitioners. Divine beings in the heaven compassionately watch this
scene. The "Court of Morality" is to tell history and the future
that the judicatory is a tool to uphold justice, to suppress the bad and
to commend the good. The persecution against
"Truth-Compassion-Forbearance" is trampling the morality and
conscience of all human beings. More than a dozen actual lawsuits have
been filed around the world by victims of Jiang's persecution of Falun
Gong. 40 Justice Heavenly beings look on as the
representative of evil is extinguished. This work reflects an
understanding that evil actions will result in retribution in higher
realms. 41 Positioning This painting captures multiple images of
peaceful appeals to the Chinese government on Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
Falun Gong practitioners carry signs that read "Falun Dafa is
Good" while policemen and plain-clothed guards violently arrest them.
Heavenly beings from Eastern and Western traditions are represented as
they look on. The deviated immortal beings in the higher levels of the
cosmos enter the gate of No-life because they manipulate the bad people in
the lowest level to persecute Dafa practitioners. The steadfast
practitioners will replace them in their original positions. The real
lives of the vicious police and all beings who carry out the evil deeds
have in fact fallen into the hell. This picture shows that in the cosmos'
momentous change, all beings will reposition themselves. It is heaven's
law that "good deeds will be rewarded with good, while bad deeds will
receive retribution." Reference: http://zhengjian.org/zj/articles/2005/1/12/30700.html Posting date: 1/19/2005 |
