Ms. Wang Hongxia in Anhui Province Passed Away in 2002 as a result of Torture

Ms. Wang Hongxia was an employee of Huaibei City Power Plant in Anhui Province. In October 2001, she was arrested by police while clarifying the truth. She was thrown into the Second Detention Center. After five months of torture, she had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. One week after she was hospitalized, she passed away at the age of 44.

Between October 12 and 15 in 2001, a high tech forum was held in Huaibei City. Starting from the end of September that year, the police began arresting Falun Gong practitioners. Many practitioners were closely monitored by their workplaces, community offices, and local police stations. They were not allowed to go outside, and their family members suffered tremendously as a result.

At the end of 2001, the Huaibei City 610 Office ordered each workplace to send its practitioners to brainwashing classes, and pay 3,000 yuan to the classes to arrange for a non-practitioner employee to monitor the detained practitioners in the classes.

Since 2001, the Huaibei Police Department launched an incentive system, in which police who caught one practitioner would be given certain points, with each point worth 50 yuan. Tao Changxin, political security section chief in Xiangshan Police Branch Office, gained 50 points in just a few days in May, and she got 2,500 yuan as a bonus. Huaibei Police Department chief Wang Jingcai arrested many practitioners around July 2001. Later on in 2003, he was arrested on the charge of accepting bribes.
