Facts of the Persecution:

1. Police from the Chaoyang Police Sub-department in Beijing Kidnap Falun Gong Practitioners Ms. Liu Lin, Zhang Wenhua and Ms. Ning Yuying

Zhang Wenhua and Ms. Ning Yuying, practitioners from Shenyang City, were abducted in Beijing's Tongzhou District on December 18, 2004. Ms. Liu Lin (Liu Chengjun's elder sister), from Nong'an County, Jilin Province, was arrested at the same time. Even after two weeks, there has been no further news about these three practitioners. The only fact uncovered was that the Chaoyang Police Sub-department was responsible for the arrests. The police keep these arrests secret so that other practitioners, who are about to be arrested, are not alerted.

2. Elderly Practitioner Ms. Ni Shuqin Tells about the Persecution She Suffered at Liaoning Women's Prison

Over the past five years, because of the persecution of Falun Gong, I have been sent to a brainwashing center once, detained twice, and locked up in detention centers twice. In October 2002, I was sentenced to four years of imprisonment and held at the Liaoning Women's Prison. Once, when I refused to say the prescribed words that a detainee must say to talk to a prison guard, I was badly beaten. Both prison guards and other inmates slapped my face with their shoes and slammed my head against a wall. As a result, my nose started to bleed, and my face was swollen and bloody. In prison we were forced to work more than ten hours each day. There were no rest periods, and when I needed to go to the toilet, two guards followed me. Since we stood from morning to evening every day, my legs swelled, and I had difficulty walking. The guards would mix drugs into our food. After eating, I had blurred vision and difficulty seeing properly. At end of 2002, I was transferred to the special division for the elderly and handicapped. When I arrived, the head of the division had the guards read articles that slandered Falun Dafa to me. They also dragged me to the hospital, where they injected me with unknown drugs. They frequently forced my head down to the brick floor to force me to take drugs. I had big lumps on my head from this treatment. On October 16, 2003, because I had become so weakened from being persecuted, the prison had no choice but to release me on bail for medical treatment.

3. Practitioner Ms. Wang Xia from Huadu District, Guangzhou City, Sentenced for the Second Time to Two Years of Forced Labor

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Wang Xia was detained, in turn, at the Guangzhou City Brainwashing Center, the Huangpu Drug Rehabilitation Center, the Huadu Detention Center and the Guangzhou Chatou Forced Labor Camp for twenty-six months in total. She was injured both physically and mentally simply because she persisted in practicing Falun Dafa, clarifying the truth about Falun Dafa to the general public and refusing to renounce Falun Dafa. During her detention at the Huangpu Drug Rehabilitation Center, Ms. Huang Xia was punched and kicked. They also grabbed her by the hair, pulled her off the ground, swung her in a circle in the air, and then pushed her head into the toilet. At the Chatou Forced Labor Camp, Ms. Wang was locked up in a dark cell and treated inhumanly because she persisted in believing in Falun Dafa. The police officers refused to allow anyone, including family members, to contact or visit her. Ms. Wang was released from the Chatou Forced Labor Camp at the beginning of November 2004. Less than a month later, she was arrested once more while handing out truth-clarification materials in her hometown of Wengyuan County, Guangdong Province. In December 2004, she was sentenced to a further two years of forced labor and sent to the Shanshui Women Forced Labor Camp in Guangdong Province.

4. Practitioner Ms. Li Yuzhi from Chifeng City Inhumanely Tortured

On April 5, 2004, practitioner Ms. Li Yuzhi from the Hongshan District of Chifeng City was abducted and turned in to the Tongliao Railway Bureau Detention Center after a railway policeman reported that she was clarifying the facts of Falun Dafa on board the train from Chifeng City to Chengde City. She was eventually sentenced to two years of forced labor and sent to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Forced labor camp officials threatened Ms. Li's family by saying that if she did not renounce Falun Dafa, she would be sent to a mental hospital for even more intensive torture. Many of the steadfast Falun Dafa practitioners held at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp are locked up in small cells (1) and also force-fed.

5. Facts about Persecution Experienced by Practitioner Mr. Zuo Fusheng from Fuzhou City

On the morning of November 1, 2002, policemen from the Fuzhou Railway Police Department abducted practitioner Mr. Zuo Fusheng and took him to the Guishan Detention Center of the Railway Bureau of Fujian Province. Mr. Zuo was then formally charged with "taking part in illegal activities." The head of the detention center, surnamed Liu, ordered five or six criminals to handcuff Mr. Zuo's hands, shackle his feet, and then use six handcuffs to lock him to a cement bed, where he was left for three days and nights. He was also forced to stand wearing shackles for 27 days. The Fuzhou Railway Police Department sentenced Mr. Zuo to two years of forced labor without providing any evidence of wrongdoing whatsoever. (Mr. Zuo had been sentenced to one year of forced labor on a previous occasion.) On November 28, 2002, Mr. Zuo was taken to the Rujiang Forced Labor Camp in Fuzhou City. He lodged an administrative appeal at the Jin'an District Court in Fuzhou City, in accordance with Chinese law. The forced labor camp intentionally violated the law by withholding the court's reply for four months before finally giving it to him. During his incarceration, forced labor camp officials harassed him and made everything as difficult as they could by giving him extra work to do. After his release and return to work, his work unit deducted several hundred yuan from his salary every month with no explanation of why they did this.

6. Practitioner Mr. Hu Wenjian of Langfang City, Hebei Province, Suing for Illegal Persecution

Mr. Hu Wenjian of Langfang City, Hebei Province, began practicing Falun Dafa in 1998. After Jiang Zemin began the persecution in 1999, Mr. Hu explained to the National People's Congress the truth about Falun Gong. When he went to hand out truth-clarification materials, he was detained, beaten and sentenced to forced labor. He was held for an extra seven months after his term of forced labor had expired. While he was imprisoned, he was forced to do physical slave labor for extended hours. He also suffered both corporal punishment and mental torture. As a result of this barbaric treatment, his lower body became paralyzed and he had great difficulty meeting his basic needs for survival. Pressured by this terrible situation, his wife left him. Hu Wenjian has now sued the evil-doers for persecuting him.

Note:

  1. Locked up in a small cell: The detainee is locked up in a very small cell all alone. The guards handcuff practitioners on their back in a fixed position in which the practitioners can neither move, nor lie down. The small cell is very damp with no natural light coming in. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell during the daytime. During the night, rats scurry around. The stench in the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.
