Call for Urgent Rescue: Lecturer Li Guoyou from Harbin Institute of Technology Is Unconscious After 13-Day Hunger Strike

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Li Guoyou, a 32-year old Falun Dafa practitioner, is a young lecturer in the School of Architecture at the Harbin Institute of Technology. To protest his illegal detention, he has been on a hunger strike and has refused water for 13 days in the Daoli District Detention Center in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. He is currently unconscious. We call on all kind and righteous people and human rights organizations for an urgent rescue.

Li Guoyou is innocent and is suffering from illegal persecution. His father, who is 78 years old, and his mother have been seeking justice everywhere, but the judicial system just shirks responsibility and has no regard for his life. Li Guoyou's wife is a young lecturer at the Harbin Institute of Technology. Besides work, she has to take care of her 3-year old child, and visit Li Guoyou.

On October 6, 2004, Mr. Li went to visit an elderly lady in Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin. He was refused entry by the labor camp. He remained outside the camp for a little while and was then abducted by the Daoli Police Department in Harbin City. He has been detained in Daoli District Detention Center in Harbin City for over three months now. He was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment in the forced labor camp by the Harbin City Police Department.

On January 8, 2005, Mr. Li started a hunger strike and refused water to protest the persecution. He is now unconscious. Everyone in the detention center knows that Mr. Li is innocent and they are afraid of taking responsibility.

Mr. Li Guoyou graduated from the School of Architecture at the Harbin Institute of Technology with a Master's degree. He was then recommended to be a Ph.D. candidate without a qualifying exam, and was also hired as a lecturer in the school. He taught classes and did research in the graduate school. Under his instruction, one of his students won a prize in the National College Student Architecture Design Contest in China. He also won awards in an international contest held by the International Architects Association in collaboration with the institute. He helped his advisor to edit two books for publication. However, he was constantly persecuted for refusing to give up his belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." His admission to the Ph.D. program was first postponed and eventually rescinded. The awarding of his professional title was postponed again and again.

Mr. Li went to the appeals office in Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was sent to a forced labor camp for eighteen months.

We ask both local and overseas Dafa practitioners to coordinate as a whole body to rescue Mr. Li Guoyou and other fellow practitioners who are illegally imprisoned. Please call and write to the following persons and send forth righteous thoughts.
