Falun Gong Practitioner Li Guimin Tortured to Death in 2002; Whereabouts of Her Two Children Remain Unknown

Falun Gong practitioner Li Guimin lived on Neijia Street of Yi County, Hebei Province. In 2001, she was illegally sentenced to 8 years in prison. While in detention, Li went on a hunger strike to protest the detention. Police, led by the detention center director Liu Jinyou, brutally force-fed her by pouring food directly into her mouth. The food was inhaled into her lungs. The police didn't stop their brutal acts until her lungs bled and she passed out. Only then did they send her to the county hospital. Li died in the hospital on March 1, 2002. When she died, blood was oozing out from her nose and mouth.

In order to shirk the responsibility, the Yi County Police Department and Detention Center both claimed that Li died of lung cancer. They even refused to pay her medical expenses.

Li's husband Mr. Cui is not a practitioner. However, he was detained for 15 days and fined 6,000 yuan in 2001 for helping a Falun Gong practitioner who was on the police's "wanted list" to escape.

In the spring of 2002, Mr. Cui went to Taiyuan City in Shanxi Province to claim money owed to him. Because the other party refused to pay him, he had a quarrel with them. As a result, he was detained by the Taiyuan Police Department and fined 10,000 yuan. Since he couldn't afford to pay the fine, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

With their mother dead and their father detained, Li Guimin's two young children became orphaned. One of the couple's relatives adopted the two children. However, the local practitioners are not sure who the relative is and where he or she lives, and how to contact him or her.

Perpetrators of Li Guimin's death:

Yi County Detention Center Director: Liu Jinyou

Yi County Police Department Deputy Chief: Zhang Jinhua (who was later transferred to Laishui County)

Former Yi County Party Secretary: Liu Jinyong (now Li County Party Secretary)

Former Yi County Deputy Party Secretary: Song Haizhen (now Yi County People's Congress Director)

Former Political and Judicial Committee Secretary: Yu Lianyou (now Yi County People's Congress Vice Director)

Former Yi County Police Department Director: Zhang Wujin (who has been transferred to Baoding City)

Former Yi County Police Department Political Director: Zhai Guohui (now Yi County Police Department Director)

Yi County Police Department Vice Director: Shi Qinghe
