A Family of Practitioners Living in Canada Takes a Firm Stand Against the Persecution Despite Death Threats
(Clearwisdom.net) "Secret agents almost succeeded in framing
me," said Mr. Wang. Listening to this, I became concerned. I had come to
Mr. Wang's home to learn some of the experiences of his family of practitioners.
The story astonished me. Mr. Wang is an accountant. Ten years ago he left China for Canada. Although
Mr. Wang has many personal achievements and his family lives a good life,
because the whole family practices Falun Gong, they have suffered from the
Chinese Communist Party's (CCP's) persecution, even in Canada. They continue to
live an uneasy, even sometimes dangerous life. Death threats and harassment "This time it was a telephone death threat, just a little more covert
than before." Said Mr. Wang, "'You'd better give up the practice,
otherwise, you need to watch out for the safety of your life.' Then the line
went dead with a click. The call came from a man at about midnight one evening
in May 2000." "Later, I received a harassment phone call. My phone wire was once cut
for unknown reasons, and my computer was hacked. Recently, they targeted my car,
always making trouble for me." The evening of June 30, Mr. Wang parked his car in Chinatown and left it for
about ten minutes. Then he drove his family home. On the way home, he discovered
that the car was functioning abnormally. He got out of the car, checked it and
found that the two rear tires were flat. He couldn't help but be unnerved and
thought: "It is so lucky we didn't take the highway. Otherwise, the car may
have gone out of control and the consequences would be terrible to
imagine." The tires looked normal after being inflated, but Mr. Wang was still not sure
and had the car checked on July 6. When he picked up his car at 6:30 p.m. before
the garage closed, he found a 4-inch-long metal nail penetrating the right rear
tire! The car had been parked outside the shop for only 30 minutes without the
attention of the garage employees. The news that there are nearly a thousand CCP spies in Canada to monitor and
persecute Falun Gong practitioners has been heard around the world. Mr. Wang had
also heard this. He thought about his movements and communications, and it
appeared to him that they had been monitored by somebody. Mr. Wang thus reported
this incident and prior ones to the Canadian Anti-terrorism Bureau. Mr. Wang's trouble wasn't over. The day after the interview with me, the
afternoon of July 10, Mr. Wang called me telling me that a renewed checkup of
his car revealed that the electrical system had been tampered with and was not
functioning! It seemed that a CCP spy was pestering Mr. Wang. No longer a calm life "We had a good life," said Mr. Wang. Between October 1997 and July
1999, Mr. Wang's wife, Ms. Liu, was working in a clothing manufacturing company
while he studied at a university. Their son was in elementary school. The whole
family lived a busy but calm life. They got up early in the morning to do the
Falun Gong exercises. In the daytime they either went to school or work. In the
evening the whole family read the book that teaches people about
"Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" and shared their experiences. On
Saturdays they took part in group exercises, Fa study or experience
sharing in parks and public places. Sometimes they taught new practitioners the
exercises. On Sundays they went shopping, visited friends and studied. They
lived an ordered and enriched life. "Since July 20, 1999, though, our life had become disordered because of
the persecution movement against Falun Gong in China. Of course I couldn't
accept the lies and slander spread in China. But what I could endure even less
was the fact that our fellow practitioners in China who had the same belief in
Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance as me were being persecuted or even killed.
My conscience urged me to appeal to stop the persecution. It's just because of
this that I was threatened with death and constantly harassed in Canada." Risking life and future to appeal in China While recalling the experiences that happened six years ago, Mr. Wang was
still struggling to hold back tears. "I left a note on the desk for my son: Your dad cares very much for you,
for I cannot look after you right now. I will go back to China to appeal, to
stop the persecution. I might not be able to come back. I might be beaten to
death just as happened to our fellow practitioners in China. Your dad has to do
so for the sake of justice and conscience." The morning of December 3,
1999, Mr. Wang told his wife in a soft voice, "I'm leaving for China to
appeal." Before his wife could reply, Mr. Wang tearfully went out the door. Mr. Wang said before he made the decision to go back to China to appeal, he
cried several times. On the one hand, he felt sorry that the fellow
practitioners suffered unreasonable and brutal persecution. On the other hand,
he felt sorry that he couldn't stick up for the truth and help stop the
persecution. He also had some selfish considerations about himself and his
family. Going back to China meant that he could lose everything, because many
fellow practitioners had been killed. Even if he lived, he might lose his
future. For about ten days, "It was like a crucial, comprehensive final
examination." "I also lacked financial resources at that time. My wife's income was
very low, and the family's living expenses still depended on my university
assistantship stipend. It was very expensive to buy an airplane ticket right
before boarding. It was really difficult." The whole family appeals "Only several days after I left, my wife and child went to Hong Kong,
also to appeal to the CCP to stop the persecution," said Mr. Wang,
"More death cases were revealed. I felt very deep sorrow. People who truly
cultivate according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and who are truly
considerate of others have no choice but to do their utmost to stop the
persecution." Mr. Wang's appeal didn't get any results. According to the CCP internal
policy at that time, all overseas Falun Gong practitioners were subject to
detention and expulsion. Mr. Wang was thus expelled from China, his own country,
on December 10, 1999. "I was in time for the university examination and I passed. Soon I found
a job as an accountant in a company manufacturing doors and windows." Supported by coworkers "Just half a year after I started the job, in September 2000, the World
Summit was held in New York. To tell the world that 'Falun Dafa is good' and to
appeal to stop the persecution, all members of my family left for a one-week
stay in New York." Mr. Wang said, "It's great that my boss could understand our situation.
I realized his righteous support for Falun Dafa." Seven months later, the UN Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of
Human Rights was held in Geneva. "My whole family thought that we should go
to appeal, because the CCP persecution of Falun Gong in China was escalating.
The Tiananmen Self-immolation Incident that the CCP had staged, in particular,
deceived the whole world. We needed to clarify the truth to the
world," said Mr. Wang, "However, I was really doubtful if my boss
would approve my leave since I was a new employee. Moreover, my leave meant that
my boss himself had to perform my job." After the boss learned the state of affairs, he cordially permitted Mr. Wang
two weeks' leave. Even his coworkers felt supportive. This was very rare. It was
because the boss knew the truth about Dafa and knew that my family was not going
for a vacation but to appeal. He was also quite satisfied with Mr. Wang's
conduct and work. Two weeks passed. Wang's family didn't return. They decided to postpone their
return by one more week until the Human Rights Commission came to the close of
the proceedings. "What about my work? I really felt shy to ask my boss, for I knew it was
also difficult for him." So far, Mr. Wang had been very moved by his boss'
kindness and his support. "My boss gave me approval over the phone to
postpone my return." The most difficult time in 2001 Just the one trip to Geneva already took almost all the 5,000 Canadian
dollars in his bank account, but the family's effort to appeal to stop the
persecution didn't stop. In July 2001, Mr. Wang had two weeks' vacation. He joined the peaceful
protest in front of the Chinese Embassy in Canada day and night to appeal to the
international community to concern themselves with the murder of Falun Gong
practitioners. Later, his 12-year-old son decided to follow his father to the
sit-in for two weeks. Because their son was so young, his mother decided to join
him in the sit-in. In August 2001, since the Harbin Wanjia Forced Labor Camp authorities
brutally tortured illegally-detained Falun Gong practitioners, more than 200
practitioners went on a hunger strike for over one month. The authorities paid
no attention to it and instead, they aggravated the persecution. To express
support for fellow practitioners who were suffering and to appeal to stop the
persecution, Mr. Wang underwent a hunger strike in front of the embassy. In October 2001, because the persecution continued to escalate, and
information that more practitioners dying from the persecution were constantly
verified, Mr. Wang joined the "SOS Rescue Walk Across Canada." He
hoped to use this sacrifice to arouse the attention of the whole world to stop
the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong. "The year 2001 was the most exiting and eventful year, and also the most
difficult year for me," said Mr. Wang. Former boss invites Mr. Wang back Because the "SOS Walk across Canada" would take a very long time,
Mr. Wang decided to resign from his job in order to avoid causing his boss
trouble. His boss understood his feelings in the anti-persecution matter. He
repeatedly asked him to stay, as the current work couldn't be delayed. Mr. Wang
carefully trained his replacement before leaving. He tried to reduce the
inconvenience for his boss to a minimum before leaving. Mr. Wang said, "My boss really didn't want me to go. When I completed
the 'SOS Walk across Canada,' I quickly found another job in a pharmaceutical
store. When my former boss learned that I had finished the walk, he invited me
back. I then worked two jobs." A trusted employee When Mr. Wang talked about his work, he showed pride and confidence,
"The two bosses trust me very much. Since I often leave work to participate
in activities that relate to the anti-persecution efforts and Falun Gong truth
clarification, they allow me to work my own schedule. I often work weekends,
sometimes overnight." Besides that, his boss at the pharmaceutical store often asks Mr. Wang to
help deposit cash in the bank. "As an accountant, ordinarily, one is not
allowed to handle cash, because problems often occur. But my boss trusts me that
much. He does not worry about my losing expensive drugs on my way to work. He
trusts me like he trusts himself in handling cash and accounts. I feel very
proud of that." Mr. Wang added, "I would say it is because he knows
the truth of Falun Dafa." No headache in educating children Mr. Wang is a very busy person. One might think that he doesn't have time to
take care of his son's education. A child's education is one of the most
important tasks facing every family. Mr. Wang admitted that besides supervising
his son's behavior and helping him in cultivating and developing into a person
living in accordance with Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, he rarely
supervises his son in other areas. But his son's performance has been very
satisfying. His son's report card shows 10 courses of study with 20 grades; 16 of them
are "A"s. He is one of the best students in the class. When I asked his methods on educating children, Mr. Wang said, "I think
the fundamental aspect of education is moral education. Falun Gong is the best
method. Falun Gong teaches one to be altruistic, following the principle of
Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Children understand these principles and
try hard to live by them. Naturally, my son knows to how study hard and to be
kind to others. He learns to be a good child and a good student. I don't
personally supervise his studies or behavior; instead, I cultivate
Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance with him. I ask him to cultivate well. Many
people have trouble educating their children. I've never had those troubles. I
give credit to Falun Dafa." Being a good son and practicing Falun Gong with his mother Mr. Wang has lived outside China for many years. When he went to Beijing to
appeal for Falun Gong, he was arrested. In the same way that the CCP accuses all
practitioners, the police accused Mr. Wang, saying that his appeal demonstrated
that he disrespects his parents. "Originally I planned to visit my mother after the appeal, but I was
deported back to Canada before I had the chance." Looking at his mother who
came to Canada a year ago he said, "I didn't get to see my mother until
much later, when I invited her to come to Canada." Mr. Wang's mother, Ms. Chen, is a retired elementary school teacher. During
the Cultural Revolution her husband was accused of being a spy. One night, at a
"Mao Zedong theory study class," her husband was abducted, taken to a
pond and stabbed to death. His body was disposed of in the pond. Ms. Chen and
her four children were left with a difficult life. "Although those days
were difficult, my children behaved well," Ms. Chen said. "When I
heard that my son practiced Falun Gong and was arrested when he came back to
China to appeal, I was worried. But I knew that my son would not do anything
bad." "When my mother came to Canada, she quickly learned the truth about
Falun Gong by visiting truth clarification websites and reading persecution
reports. After she got to know the truth, she started practicing Falun Gong with
us." Before practicing, Mr. Wang's mother was unable to stand up straight
due to a spinal illness. Now, her condition is becoming better day by day. She
is able to go out to promote Falun Gong, clarify the truth and participate in
Falun Gong parades. Seeing his mother's change, Mr. Wang is happy that he has
done so well in his duties of filial piety. Clarifying the truth to relatives For Mr. Wang, the most heart-wrenching thing about the persecution was that
some of his relatives believed the CCP propaganda and misunderstood Falun Gong.
They even spoke maliciously about the practice, but after continuous truth
clarification, they changed. Mr. Wang said, "My sister who lives in China
thought I was getting political and anti-CCP. However, because we often talk on
the phone, now things are better. She is willing to do things in accordance to
the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. She does the exercises at
night and feels very comfortable as a result." Mr. Wang's uncle is an outstanding physicist living in the US. He was
deceived by lies from watching the CCP's TV programs. He once referred to Mr.
Wang as "stupid," and "anti-China." However, after numerous
long talks, his uncle finally understood the truth. He said, "On the
subject of the cosmos, space, life and other issues, what Falun Gong discusses
is even beyond the knowledge of first-class scientists. Falun Gong is truly
something. Its practitioners are intelligent." Visibly moved, Mr. Wang
said, "The CCP government lies made my family members treat each other like
enemies. However, learning the truth has made us become as close as
before." Chinese citizenship revoked Mr. Wang is regretful that the Chinese embassy took away his Chinese
citizenship. "In July 2000 I applied for my passport renewal. An officer,
Mr. Zeng, had a face-to-face meeting with me. He said that my appeal for Falun
Gong violated China's laws. I told him that appealing is within the rights of a
Chinese citizen. It's not illegal. Practicing Falun Gong is also the right of a
Chinese citizen. It is not illegal, either. The persecution, however, is
unlawful. In the end, this official couldn't reason anymore. He simply said,
"No matter what, you must give up Falun Gong. You must repent. This is the
Chinese government's policy." Mr. Wang refused to comply. The biggest wish: ending the evil persecution Indeed, if this nonsensical and crazy persecution hadn't happened, Mr. Wang's
family and the 100 million Falun Gong practitioners and their families around
the world would have been living peaceful and happy lives. Mr. Wang said,
"Not just that. If the persecution hadn't occurred, there would be more
people practicing Falun Dafa. They would try to be good people from the bottom
of their hearts. China and the whole world would be a better place." When asked about the future, Mr. Wang was full of confidence. "The
persecution is difficult to sustain. After six years of anti-persecution
efforts, more and more people understand the truth. They know that Falun Dafa is
grand. They know that the CCP is to blame for the evil persecution. My family
and friends, both inside and outside of China, are living examples. My wish is
to have people get rid of the CCP's deceit in their minds and understand that
Falun Dafa is about cultivating Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance; that it
teaches people to be good and it helps people to keep fit and build a healthier
body. The persecution must end immediately." Note: In order to protect the family in this article, their names have been
changed. |
