Missing brother of Wanqing Huang (The Epoch Times)

The following is an open letter by Dr. Wanqing Huang, chief editor of the Chinese Epoch Times website:

November 10, 2005

The Honorable George W. Bush
President of the United States
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, D.C. 20500

Dear Mr. President:

I'm New York resident Huang Wanqing. My brother in China has been missing for two and a half years. I am writing to respectfully request that you raise this issue when you meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao during your upcoming visit to China.

My brother is Huang Xiong, born in 1978. He was in Wanan, Jiangxi Province. He started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. Since the Chinese government began its persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, my brother was once arrested by the Jian police in Jiangxi province, and had been detained in labor camp for one and a half years. After he was released, the police still tried to force my brother to give up practicing Falun Gong, so my brother had to leave his hometown. The local police still tried to catch him using the other police around the country.

The last time my brother talked with me was on the phone in April 2003. He has been missing for two and a half years now. According to a comprehensive investigation by reporters from The Epoch Times newspaper and a lawyer, we know that my brother was arrested by the police in Shanghai, and Mr. Hu, who is the director of the department of "national protection" of the police station in Yangpu district, Shanghai.

All this time since my brother was missing, my family members have all been very anxious. I have been trying my best to look for the whereabouts of my brother. Senator Zell Miller and Congressman John Linder once replied to me expressing their concerns about this case. The U.S. Consulate in China has written three letters to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ask for their help in finding my brother. The United Nations has recorded this as most urgent case. I really appreciate all people's kind help. Until now, we did not know any information about my brother, and we even do not know whether he is alive or dead.

At the same time, I have been threatened in the United States. Through my relatives in China, an official from Jiangxi National Security Bureau threatened me not to distribute the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. They know that I'm the chief editor of The Epoch Times website, and our editorial articles the Nine Commentaries, which was published last November, has directly caused a big phenomena--a massive wave of Chinese people publicly renouncing their affiliations with the Chinese Communist Party. As of now, over 5.5 million people have renounced the CCP.

Chinese officials also know that I practice Falun Gong, so they warned me many times to keep silent on the Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong. I was shocked that they know private things about me, and even know how much money I have in my bank account.

Falun Gong practitioners are all benevolent people who believe in "Truthfulness, Benevolence, Tolerance." The persecution by the CCP of Falun Gong practitioners is the most severe human rights issue. This persecution has been spread to the U.S., and is interfering with the lives and security of American residents.

Mr. President, I sincerely request that you raise this issue during the meeting with President Hu Jintao next week, help find my brother, and also help all the Falun Gong practitioners from being brutally persecuted by the Chinese government.

Yours sincerely,
[signed]

Dr. Wanqing Huang
