Being Responsible to Fellow Practitioners in Prison

Recently, I got a chance to exchange experiences in cultivation with some Dafa practitioners in prison. Not only was I moved by their compassion for the people in the world, even while under such difficult conditions, but I also realized that Dafa disciples shoulder great responsibility.

In my letter to them, I accidentally wrote, "I finally regained my will." Unexpectedly, this moved them a lot, and I deeply felt how much those conditions sapped such steadfast cultivators' will. From their letter to me, I also discovered they didn't understand the Fa well. This is an important reason why they have been illegally detained for so long period.

Under such conditions, it is not easy to keep a clear head and enough righteous thoughts. I know that they would absolutely not be like this if they were not in such evil conditions and under such great pressure and if they had Dafa books to read and enough experience sharing.

But what I really want to discuss is the following: What have we, their fellow practitioners, done for them? To what degree is their lengthy time in prison caused by the limitations of our cultivation levels?

"As I've said, everything that happens today in the ordinary society is the result of Dafa disciples' thoughts. Even though the old forces do exist, if you don't have those thoughts they can't do anything. When your righteous thoughts are strong enough the old forces can't do a thing." ("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A.")

Possibly we overemphasize the problems our fellow practitioners in prison have in their personal cultivation. But to only have such thoughts without positive acts and not to adequately expose the local persecution to the local people to eliminate the evil may be in itself a shortcoming in our cultivation. Frankly, the thoughts that recklessly negate the problems that fellow practitioners face in prison are irresponsible in themselves. In other words, these thoughts are what the old forces have forced upon us. The results caused by so many practitioners' incorrect thoughts can easily be imagined.

Dafa practitioners are one, united entity. Because so many fellow practitioners are illegally detained, we cannot shirk our responsibility. If every practitioner can understand the Fa from the bottom of his or her heart and actively expose the persecution and eliminate the evil, the manifested miraculous power of Dafa will be enough to disintegrate the old forces' arrangements.

I remember what a fellow practitioner once told me. She called a practitioner who lived in another city. When she learned that this fellow practitioner was almost arrested while distributing truth-clarification materials, she was in tears. She also knew that this practitioner's state in cultivation practice was not good. But she suddenly realized that such a thought was incorrect. So she immediately acted and shouted loudly to the evil, "Who dares to act recklessly?" Then she saw that the evil beings gathered above this practitioner scattered at once in all directions. The great power of her manifesting righteous thoughts frightened the evil so much that it was afraid of not running quick enough to escape the righteous thoughts.

We always say, "Negate the old forces," but at the critical moment we are held back by "but." What we need is not the helpless feeling, but righteous thoughts. The fellow practitioners in prison do not need criticism or blame, only our genuine and positive help. Let the godly side of our original nature radiate even more pure, divine rays of light. In exposing the evil and clarifying the truth, genuinely disintegrate all evil, and then the persecution that our fellow practitioners in prison suffer will naturally be reduced and even completely eliminated.
