About Laziness
(Clearwisdom.net) The Chinese character for "laziness" is
comprised of two sub-characters: "mind" and "wallow." The
character "wallow" is also comprised of two sub-characters:
"bound" and "burden." The character "wallow"
points to procrastination and the character "laziness" means keeping
[something] in mind and not taking any action to carry something out. It means
slacking off and not working diligently. Non-practitioners strive to have an easy and comfortable life, and are not
willing to give of themselves or lose things. But "no loss, no gain"
is a universal truth. How can one reap rewards without paying for them with
diligence? There is a saying, "When the people are diligent, the land will
not remain idle." Laziness is a huge obstacle that stands in the way of cultivation. It is a
test that must be overcome and an attachment that must be eliminated, much like
the six sensory pleasures and the seven emotions that must be restrained. Laziness is manifested in many different ways, for instance, being too lazy
to do the daily exercises, to study the Fa, to clarify the
truth to the public or to spread the Fa to save sentient beings. It is a
sign of a lack of willpower and a lack of faith in cultivation; it indicates a
weak main consciousness and a habit of slacking off. We have been helping in the Fa-rectification alongside our Teacher for over
six years and have succeeded in overcoming many trials and hardships. At the
final stage of the Fa-rectification, while the evil is fighting for its life,
how can we be lazy or be slowed by our pursuit of comfort? Let us use our divine
power to do our best, to break free from all the bounds imposed by the old
universe, and work diligently to complete the Fa-rectification and do the
three things well, save more sentient beings, and fulfill the vows
that we made long ago. Posting date: 12/24/2005
