A former tennis player from Yunnan Province, Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Han Zhenkun from Kunming City, was arrested and taken from his home one year ago and sentenced to seven years of imprisonment. Recently he wrote an appeal statement to express that the sentence was illegal.

Mr. Han Zhenkun, forty years old, used to be a part of the Yunnan Province Athletic Team. In 1991, Mr. Han became a staff member at the Jinhua Hotel. In 2003, Mr. Han was forced to leave his job because he practiced Falun Dafa.

On April 23, 2004, Mr. Han Zhenkun and his wife Ms. Guo Juan were arrested at home by police officers from the State Security Division of the Wuhua District Police Department for producing Falun Dafa truth-clarification materials. The police officers also ransacked their home. On August 24, 2004, the Kunming City Middle Court illegally sentenced them to imprisonment. Mr. Han Zhenkun was sentenced to seven years and has been held at the No. 12 division of the No. 1 prison in Yunnan Province since then. This July, Mr. Han Zhenkun wrote an appeal statement to express his objection to the sentence.

In his statement, Mr. Han Zhenkun pointed out, "Since I started to practice Falun Dafa, I changed from a selfish fool to a rational and forgiving person. It is Falun Dafa that has purified my soul and spirit and allows me to understand everything."

Mr. Han Zhenkun expressed in his statement that the false charge of "using a cult organization to disrupt the enforcement of state law," from a legal perspective, was against China's Constitution. His statement also exposed illegal aspects of the court hearing. Mr. Han pointed out that practicing Falun Dafa is not a crime and that Falun Dafa is good.
